BEYONCE, NEW FACE OF AMERICAN EXPRESS
Monday, August 6, 2007
PHOTOS: SPLASH
Above are a few candids of Beyonce filming her American Express commericial in New York City earlier today. If you didn’t know, Beyonce, 25, will be the latest celebrity spokesperson for American Express to help pitch their gold and platinum credit cards. Former representatives include Ellen DeGeneres, Tiger Woods, Kate Winslet, Robert DeNiro, and Venus Williams. The campaign is reported to be worth several millions of dollars and scheduled to launch in late 2007.
American Express is also a sponsor of the Beyonce Experience Tour. Here is what an A.E. insider told OK! Magazine,
“She’s a role model for so many young people,” says an insider. “She has tremendous cross-over appeal the same way Tiger does. She’s an inspiration for lots of people. She’s a great fit for American Express.”
You can’t even hate. Go Beyonce!

@34 , i sort of feel you…..i think beyonce is pretty especially when her hair and makeup is on point cause it just takes her to another level. You don’t hear about beyonce out doing crazy things because she’s very conscious of her image. She should be commended and i think she’s being rewarded with all these contracts.
But, i do agree with you in one way….i mean why not Alicia Keyes? You don’t hear her out doing anything stupid, but i think her music is on a deeper level than beyonce’s and of course, we know when something is more ethnic, no matter how successful you are, you don’t get rewarded as the more mainstream cross-cultural appealing artists like beyonce with the wigs and whole diana ross type superstar thing going. Instead it seems Alicia Keys is limited to public service annoucement about aids and other concerns that has to do with largely the black community. I don’t see people throwing contracts her way….and i think she’s just as worthy as beyonce.

46. I don’t see how your opinion connected with “A” but
If everybody was deep, sat down and played a piano, and didn’t provide that over the top performance the music industry would be very boring.
We have so much going on with war, crime, & whatever personal things you are going throug in life that sometimes you just want to let go and be entertained. You wanna have snap music or “Get Me Bodied” so you can go to the club or be at home to let loose and forget all that stuff. We don’t have to hear about deep stuff or what’s going on in the world all the time especially when you are already aware of it.
You have your Tracy Chapman’s, Alicia Keys, and Corrine Bailey Rae’s and you have your over-the-top performers like Beyonce, Ciara, and Janet. If everybody was the same it would be very bland.
She and her family worked hard for what they have now and nothing was giving to them.

Beyonce is a single black woman, 25, has NO baby daddys, and very career focused.
We dont see her charged with DUIs, sleepin with every male celeb, or partying all the time and gettin drunk. She lets females know it ok to be sexy and classy, not sexy and trashy. Not too many females are willing to put their own personal goals 1st. Instead alot get lost behind tryin to follow these men.
I personally think she is a good role model for young women

BEYONCE HAS LOREAL, SAMSUNG, ARMANI DIAMONDS PERFUME, AND AMERICAN EXPRESS ENDORESEMENTS AS OF PRESENT. THIS IS BUSINESS, THEY KNOW BEYONCE WILL SELL A PRODUCT, LOOK WHO’S SPONSORING HER “BEYONCE EXPERIENCE.”
AT THE END OF THE DAY, IT’S A GOOD LOOK!

I’m really proud of Beyonce and her many accomplishments. It kills me how some black women dog her out. It’s not like she’s Lil’ Kim or Foxy Brown where she’s always getting into trouble with the law or Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, or Paris Hilton flashing her privates to the world and sleeping with different men. You never hear her throwing temper tantrums or acting like a spoiled diva like Jennifer Lopez. In my opinion I think she’s a positive role model. People should be applauding her for her success.Especially as black women we should be supporting her where there are so many negative images of us in America.

I definitely agree with you. Beyonce is a hustler, and so is her family. I think they are relentless and they stop at nothing, and they expect the best; she’s reaping well from that core family attitude, as she should, and as anyone who fosters that same frame of thinking should. And her music has a definite place, why? Cause numbers don’t lie, even if record sales number can lie, concert ticket sales can’t. She has cemented a place for herself.
But this is what i think #34 was saying:
Remember the video that was on here a few months back, when the young girl did a documentary on the black dolls and the white dolls, well when you go into our neighborhoods, most black people don’t look like beyonce, they don’t look like halle berry, and yet these are pretty women at the height of their success; yet, most black people cannot “physically” identify with them because “stereotypically” they don’t look like your average black person, (i.e, wider noses, textured hair, thick lips)but i think #34 was saying that the world is more accepting and willing to reward people who look like halle and beyonce, rather than a lauryn hill or someone that more closely “physically” looks more ethnic (wider noses, hair texture, lip size, etc). Thats why when the girl who did the documentary asked “which was the good doll”, they all picked up the white doll, because that’s who they see successful, on tv, in movies, on a more large basis. Thank God Oprah is there to the cut it a bit, but on a larger scale, the more successful artists and the ones that reap the most rewards from WHITE AMERICA (american express, you can’t get too much whiter!) are the ones that look like beyonce. When Alicia Keys and India Arie came out TOGETHER, we all know that most of the accolades went to alicia, even though she was rockin them braides, india was rockin them locks, and that’s a hella no no if you want white mainstream america to accept you.
Beyonce and all the others that i mention deserves everything they have gotten…but i think with the “doll test” i can see why little dark skin girls in our communities hate themselves, cause they don’t see people like them, , get rewarded on a grand scale, just in bits and pieces - instead it’s only done if they have that crossover appeal. And when the halle’s and beyonce’s get rewarded, while we all still know they are black, it’s like mainstream america is sending us a message, “we’ll only ACCEPT you and validate you, if you look like this”.
I could be wrong, and #34 tell me if i was way off base, but that’s what i got from what you said.
66.

Of course i was speaking of WHEN ALICIA WAS AT THE HEIGHT OF HER SUCCESS, not now. But i think she’ll be good now, she’s taken them braides out and she has a more mainstream look now. Though i don’t know if she’ll keep that look with the release of the new album.

PUBLIC APOLOLGY, PUBLIC APOLOGY, PUBLIC APOLOGY, PUBLIC APOLOGY
Please forgive me everyone with that long as hell post. I was so quick to defend #34 in their statement, when they said they were sorry beyonce had become the standard for black beauty. I thought they meant that only people that look like beyonce get contracts like american express.
BUT, upon reading further, i see that Venus Williams (who we all know is black, look black, cant get her mixed up with no other race than black) also had the contract as well by american express.
So please disregard my posts at numbers #46 and #65. While i had points, they are not in fitting with the conversation and topic today. So sorry, please don’t jump down my throat.
At #34, sorry, i thought i knew where you were coming from, but i obviously didn’t. As you were soldier, you’ll have to defend yourself on that one.

#65 ,#70 Jscene,
Very interesting post, and I definitely do see your point of view. One thing about the Williams sisters though- they are first and foremost athletes, and hugely succesful ones at that. American Express offered them deals based on their success as tennis players.
The entertainment industry on the other hand is all about the superficial. But of course we already know that. In college (a couple years ago in fact), I had to take a sociology 101 class. For some topic dealing with race and American culture, Beyonce was used as an example as an entertainer who had mass appeal because of her features and hairstyle. The picture the text book had was a head shot from her Destiny’s Child days, with blond hair, green contacts and European features.
Anyway, I am not agreeing/disagreeing with you or anyone else. I just wanted to add something to the discussion because I saw your disclaimer was based on the Williams sisters not looking like Beyonce, but they got an Amex endorsement.
My disclaimer: I am EXTREMELY happy for Beyonce. I am a young (ish ) black female trying to make something of myself, if not for me only, but for when I have kids they can have something. I may not like Beyonce’s music, dancing or weave/makeup choices, but I damned well admire her work ethic. Why would she NOT want to make a few thousand dollars in a day just for showing her mug and pretending she can act? Who the hell wouldn’t?
Does any one know how much money she gets for a gig like this ?

As if the black community does not have enough debt, Beyonce Knowles goes pitching credit cards. And AMEX is the worst card, for people who carry balances from month to month, which is typical habit of black people.
The endorsing of Bey has nothing to do with the CEO being black. It has more to do with the fact that AMEX realizes an opportunity to make money off black people who have a propensity to spend money they dont have and carry balances, which AMEX makes a TON of money off of. Who else to talk to black people about getting an AMEX than our darling Beyonce.

October 7, 2008 - World Wide X
November 11, 2008 - World Wide XI
December 16, 2008 - World Wide XII
Beyonce will shoot a video for each song (300 videos in all, each song will be re-done in Spanish, and 50 will be re-shot in Swahili) And she will shoot a movie for each album starring as her alter-ego Sasha.
In keeping with the Worldwide Theme of the album Beyonce will visit 12 countries a month to promote the album. She is also having a special contest to give away free tickets to a concert. Starting in November, if you visit your local Kim’s Korean Hair Care, if you find the OFFICIAL Beyonce Blonde lacefront wig in the store, you will win front-row tickets to her concert. We guarantee that this concert will be so hot, you may leave the show on FIRE!!!
Because Beyonce is such a kind and generous person, she will be visiting third world countries in Africa and Asia to pass out water, food, medical supplies, and slightly worn lacefronts and freakum dresses, because, as Beyonce says, “water and food are cool, but every once and a while, when your country is poor and in the middle of a civil war, sometimes you have to go in the back of your closet and pull out that freakum
dress.”
Keeping with her tradition of giving new talent an opportunity, for the WorldWide World Tour 2008 Beyonce wants an all-gay band. That’s right an all-gay band. She will be looking for the most talented and energetic gay musicians to go out on the road with her. She needs the following musicians:
- 1 Drummer
-
-3 Tambourine Players
-2 Whistle Blowers
-1 Person to take hold 2 flashlights, spin in a circle and, make the Siren Sound on Ring the Alarm
She will be holding auditions in Atlanta-only. She figured that in Atlanta all she had to do was play “Get Me Bodied” on a crowded street and the all-gay band would form itself.
As with all of her other tours, Beyonce will be offering Gold Packages
for her fans.
For the low price $12,000 fans will be able to wave directly at Beyonce as she waves back at them from her tour bus. No photos and videos will be taken at the concerts, as we have found that people post things on YouTube, even when Beyonce asks them not to. Go figure.
People who buy the Gold Package will also receive an EXCLUSIVE gift-bag which includes: a bag of Skittles, a bar of Irish Spring soap, 2 loose Newports, $300 worth unsold House of Dereon clothing, and 20 unsold copies of “Miss Kelly”.
Fans will be able to pre-order all 12 albums on the following dates:
-September 4, 2007
-Whatever day Janet’s album comes out.
-Whatever day Mariah’s album comes out.
-Whatever day Ashanti’s album comes out.
Beyonce’s not trying to compete or overshadow, it’s merely a coincidence that her pre-order date falls on the same day as other singers’ album releases.
A DVD-CD re-release will be done for each of the 12 albums, and DVD
from each of the 120 concerts that Beyonce will perform on tour.
So in all in 2008 Beyonce will release:
24 albums
12 movies
120 - DVDs

Why is Alicia’s name being bought up? Alicia Keys is not about endorsements and all that…she already made that clear. She is not the type that is worried about being the biggest star or being in the spotlight all the time or stamping her name on everything. That’s not her thing. She is more focused on the craft.
I agree with the person that said if every artists was the same it would be boring.

She is truly a force to be reckoned with & it doesn’t hurt that she has a strong work ethic & puts on a marvelous show!
Who cares about her “taking a break?” That is a ridiculous sentiment. So because most aren’t on her level she is supposed to disappear…..RIGHT! If her fans want to miss her so badly then she wouldn’t be selling out shows where people are on their feet the ENTIRE time in awe of her.
I am happy for her!

And for what it’s worth…American Express is a GREAT card to have if you know how to use it (the Green Card) but the have various other products (cards) that you can carry balances on that have low interest rates (based on your credit).
It’s not Beyonce’s fault that some don’t know how to manage other people’s money (credit) when they already can’t manage their own. Man, people will blame her for everything!

“She’s a role model for so many young people,” says an insider. “She has tremendous cross-over appeal the same way Tiger does. She’s an inspiration for lots of people. She’s a great fit for American Express.”
How is that Racist when they just mentioned a paragraph up that….
“If you didn’t know, Beyonce, 25, will be the latest celebrity spokesperson for American Express to help pitch their gold and platinum credit cards. Former representatives include Ellen DeGeneres, Tiger Woods, Kate Winslet, Robert DeNiro, and Venus Williams.’
The last time I checked Venus Williams was just as dark and beautiful as they come. And yet they felt she was mainstream. Whoever said that black people arent mainstream. Need to check up on the latest view cohost who also hosted the oscars many a times.
Need to watch sum will smith movies. Dude is as mainstream as they come. And its tons of black brothers in america who LOOK just like him.
Just becuz Beyonce is a dif shade of black dont mean she shouldnt represent American Express. BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL in all its shades.

Beyonce is not the standard of beauty for black women. Cleary she is not. Put her against a white girl ( her and Ashley Simpson at the Grammys) and you will find many similarities.
Although I was extremely disappointed with her latest records, I still admire and respect her hard work and professinalism.
She is doing it, white people love her. Then again that has always been the case. They want a women of African descent with European features, and that is what she is. I am definately not hating but real is real.
Girl do your ting, get back the land for all of us, then again they are making money in the process.
All the same, you done know that she soon breed- come on Jay is almost 40, since he is so family oriented, he should want some soon.

Beyonce will always go far because she is more foucsed on her life and goals!
Her tour is called “The Beyonce Experience” and that is for a very good reason. One will walk away from her concert and be like; damn!!! Beyonce is no Joke!
I don’t really to agree with what I read regarding the lighter, more narrow nose etc… the more work you will get… but the way things are going in this business it will appear so…
Look at Rihanna… look how much attention she is getting!
I’m proud of my girl B! O yeah I just need to put the NY Post on blast… they gave Beyonce a bad review in the paper about her MSG stop in NY. All Lies!
They said the band was bad her voclas were weak and the sound system was weak as well. I wonder who the hell wrote that… person had to be death dum and blind because clearly Beyonce was hated on by this person. If anyone went to her show on Sunday in NY… please let me know if you agree with the NY Post

There are some real haters in here this morning. Come on do you all pick apart her white counterparts. No one is mad at Donald Trump from selling everything from real estate to steaks. Shit that man put his face on tap water (allegedly spring) but you do not see anyone calling his ass out for doing what business is about —selling yourself and your products.
My issue with B and most other black celebs is in what way does they contribute to the black community, other then a few tax write offs (save the music or some foundation in your name that doesn’t do shit but keep Uncle Sam at bay). I am mean my opinion of Jay changed when he became apart of a cause that obviously impacts people and appears to be legit–in that it is not a tax shelter for his millions.
That is my issue with B and people of her stature, not that she sells herself and anything else that can make her some loot, but that she thinks past entertainment to see how the world would benefit from her fame and wealth. Just a thought from one blogger to the next.

I’m not a Bey stan, fan, or even casual liker, but I gotta admit, she’s playing the endorsement game the way it’s supposed to be played. Why can’t a woman get her hustle game on like Michael Jordan and other male sports figures? Cause she’s a singer? Or a woman?
Fucks all that.
The one good thing I CAN say about her is that she’s setting a new example, and in the future, her example will be the template that black female celebrities should follow - should they want to take that route to cross-over appeal.

She looks beautiful and I am very happy for her-when big names like american express what you to endorse their products you are obviously doing something right-and it’s definitely not just because your pretty-
there are a million beautiful people they could have asked-it’s obvious this woman’s successful career and the fact that she serves as a role model and comes from a strong family background were probably the determining factors that landed her this gig!
You can hate all you want but the people who matter the most-the ones with the power to make major decisions and the ones who pay big bucks- obviously like this girl!
when you are making moves like this-you can tell the haters to kiss your ass-in private of course-we don’t want to ruin that good girl image.
Beyonce is laughing the longest and the hardest-and that’s to those who thought her fall was so damn funny-

I luv those high waisted pants! Ugh, so cute!
As for everything else, it’s crazy how black women hype themselves up into thinking that white America loves light skinned black women. When the fact of the matter is, they look at B and they know she’s not white. She’s no where close to white. She doesn’t talk white, act white or sing white. She’s not built white nor does she dress white. To white people, she’s a black woman just like any black woman. What’s appealing is that she’s a successful black woman just like Serena is. Don’t think cause Serena ain’t touring that she ain’t making paper. Sister is paid out the anus too. Black woman always wanna make something about light skinned versus dark skinned. Who cares? Live your life because can’t no one hold you back from what God has in store for you anyway. You could be black as dirt or red boned - it only matters as much as you make it matter. People and things in this world don’t attach importance to us - we attach importance to things. Light skinned versus dark skinned is not important to me. I’m a chocolate sister with big ole natural, nappy hair and I’m beautiful.

Go Beyonce get your money, glad you aint embarassing your race like Lindsey, Brittney and Nicole, so I would say she’s a pretty good role model. You dont see her out making a fool of herself and I respect her hustle all day long. She looks pretty in these pics.
Jscene, did you have a change of heart about Beyonce? You seem pretty positive today.

@ 132, I went to the Beyonce Experience in Dallas also, it was amazing, that girl makes you feel like you feel like you can do anything after leaving her concert. Lol!! At the “Hamburger Helper” part. LOL!!!
“That was so good I wanna make him some Hamburger Helper” we all fell out laughing. But my favorite part had to be “Get Me Bodied extended version” she kilt that ish, had the whole American Airlines rocking, from lil kids to Grandparents. Bey is the ish and aint nobody taking her spot for a long time.

well for all you beyonce stans that felt the need to come to her defenses over a comment that really wasn’t anything to fuss about….she obviously doesnt need your help cuz she is doing just fine…i commend her on her hustle that her father peddled into her for years and as i said before from a business stand point i strive to be like her real soon…again i also state that she is overrated which she is and i find it irritating that she is everywhere and has become the face for black beauty…whether you agree or not…JSCENE..(i think) you hit what i was trying to say right on the head…you just took my comment and went into detail…i was too lazy to type all that out so thank you for doing it for me…anchyways…..back to beyonce and her endorsement

@156 I completely understand what your saying, a lot of america thinks that if you are a lighter skin african american you are accepted by white america and as a lighter skin black woman that is not true. At the end of the day they still know that we are black.
I like Beyonce, I wouldnt call myself her biggest fan or anything but i do like her. She works hard at what she does and i have to respect her for that.

DENISE SAID: I AM A BEYONCE FAN AND I STILL BELIEVE THAT CREDIT CARDS CAN EASILY LURE A PERSON WHO CANNOT AFFORD TO PURCHASE CERTAIN ITEMS WITH WITH CASH, TO SPLURGE. I WAS 22 YEARS OLD WHEN I GOT MY FIRST CREDIT CARD, DESPITE MY MOTHERS URGING; I CONTINUED TO LIVE BEYOND MY MEANS AND SPLURGE. COME ON IT DOES NOT TAKE A ROCKET SCIENTIST TO FIGURE OUT THAT, IF YOU GIVE A 19 OR 22 YEAR OLD A CREDIT CARD, THE MAJORITY OF THEM ARE GOING TO SPLURGE-HECK MATURE ADULTS DO IT. LETS FACE IT WEALTH IS WHAT THE BLACK COMMUNITY LACKS AND THAT IS WHAT I WAS STRESSING, IN MY PREVIOUS BLOG COMMENT.
WE HEAR ABOUT THE ROCKFELLAS, THE KENNEDYS, THE HILTONS, BUT WHEN WILL WE HEAR ABOUT THE JONES’S-YOU KNOW WHY NOT, BECAUSE WE ARE SO BUSY TRYING TO KEEP UP WITH THEM. YOU NEVER HEAR OR SEE ENOUGH BLACK WEALTHY PEOPLE-OK OPRAH, BUT COME ON, I AM TALKING ABOUT FAMILIES WHO COME FROM GENERATIONS OF WEALTH. YES, IF YOU WANT TO USE CREDIT CARDS FINE, BUT INVESTING AND SAVING IS THE KEY TO MONEY WEALTH, USE CANNOT USE CREDIT FOREVER. MY GRANDMOTHER USED CASH FOR EVERYTHING.

Why do they still say she is 25 year old for the last 3 or 4 years they being
saying she 25 years old my daughter is 29 years old and I know that Bey
is older than that. My younger daughter is 19 so I know she been out long
time. And in fact she look older than 25 year old and I agree that it is some
other young black talent women that can be the new face of American Express
and they can also talk with excellent speech.

Everybody wears weave who can afford it, if it is a weave that’s her business she can afford it. However I’m a mixed black woman who has bascially the same color hair as Beyonce, I’m pretty like her too. My hair is real.

I think what people fail to understand is people wear weave because they want to not because they have to. Hair is constantly growing so if you cut it, it will grow back. My hair grows very fast, I had a short hair cut and now it’s almost as long as Beyonce’s in this picture and it’s the same color. So sometimes people may accuse people of having a weave and it may have just grown, hair constantly grows. Not everyone with long hair has a weave.

Haha, Beyonce must say to herself every morning “Look at all these people that love me. No matter what I do, they are always talking.” Regardless if it’s haters or fans, people will always take the time to talk about her. If homegirl wasnt making such a huge impact on society, people wouldnt give a damn. Thats why you folks on this blog and ther website writing all type of sh*t about her. She dont let negativity and hate get the best of her, this is the reason why she is so big and successful. Cant say the same about most people.Hmmph!
Yes she is my role model and a damn legend, icon. I would love to see Ciara, Rihanna, Ashanti and all them other fake ass singers make it as far as she did and still keep going.

Ignoramuses keep screaming get the paper, make the money, get paid, but don’t forget boreyonce got the knowles klan to support. plus she OWES Sony big time for that flop re-release of boreday. she is just slaving for the white mans product and her counterparts get paid more than her because she got stringy hair in the armani commercial to appear more white doesn’t and will never make boreyonce white. i will not support such hypocrisy. keep praising the money hungry devil.
