THOSE 4 BLACK WOMEN UP THERE ARE SIMPLY STUNNING. INSTEAD OF CELEBRATING, WE SIT HERE AND START ARGUING ABOUT WHO´S NOT BLACK ENOUGH, WHO HAS NO RIGHT TO CALL THEMSELVES BLACK.

WHO THE HELL ARE YOU (AIMED AT THE HATERS) TO TELL SOMEONE ELSE THEY SHOULDN´T CALL THEMSELVES BLACK….ARE YOU “GODS BLACK WATCH GUIDE”

SAD TO SAY BUT WE AS A PEOPLE ARE STILL DAMAGED FROM THE INSIDE IF THIS SUBJECT IS SUCH A BIG ISSUE. WHICH IT IS JUDGING BY THE POSTS AND THE DAILY CONVERSATIONS I OVERHEAR.

BLACK PEOPLE IN AMERICA NEED TO START HEALING BY LETTING ALL THIS 100%, 2.5%. 0.03335 BLACK7WHITE ISSUES GO.

I SUGGEST TAKING A TRIP OUTSIDE AMERICA. GO TO EUROPE, AFRICA SEE HOW THE REST OF THE WORLD IS LIVING AND MAYBE THIS WILL PUT SOME MUCH NEEDED PERSPECTIVE INTO THINGS.

They all look beautiful . I dont understand why you guys feel the need to argue about skin tone all the time. Im highly upset Naomi Campbell is not on that cover ,because she is fierce on the runway ! Congrats to all of the beautiful one who did make the cover though.

153 that´s crazy. But I know most people always think that.
You know it would be nice if they not only taught about Black History but also deep African History in schools. That´s a thought. Most of those stuff one has to seek for self on the internet and trips if one is lucky to afford one.

First of all, the ladies gracing the cover are beautiful and I LOVE Kimora. I knew someone was gonna say she isn’t black, but YES she is. No one is 100% anything, we’re all mixed with something. It’s all about what you choose to represent, and Kimora reps black people. Although she embraces her Korean/Japanese culture, Kimora IS a black woman 24/7. Besides, this issue is also about models, therefore, Kimora should definitely grace the cover.

I agree with you #154, Naomi should definitely be on this cover, SMH.

Shyt. I gues I’m late on this MF.
Where is Naomi? Where is Beverly Johnson? WHY TF is Kimora up there?
Where is the African Liya Kebede? Tyra and Alek have always been overrated models, but WHY the fvkk is Kimora up there?
I loathe Ebony magazine. Always have and always will.

We come in all shades and must support everyone who is black and who embraces our culture whether there 25%, 50% or if both parents are black! Please lets all try to support each other! Let’s be inspired by these women and put forth OUR PERSONAL BEST in all we aspire to do!!

i personally thought alek wek was not good looking when she just came out. pure ignorance on my part. we as black women tend to prefer the weave wearing, over processed look like beyonce. tresses streaming down our backs. so you’ll get comments like, cassie is so pretty, when she looks like an average lightskin, mixed heritage persons. when will we get over this shit and accept our wider noses, fuller lips and yes our naturally kinky beautiful hair- no excuses people, even other people accept our beauty. when a white man goes for a black woman, it is the darkest skin and more ethnic black features he is going for.

i love the cover of the magazine and alot of people dont even know that kimora has black in her but she is not black. shes half black. i think they should of just had fully black people on the magazine because mixed women are always seen as beautiful but 100% black women are not.

i love kimora though. i got my baby phat on right now lol

The cover is not just about being a black supermodel, it is about being a important business woman also. Kimora has babyphat, Iman has her makeup line, Tyra has her shows, and Alex has a clothing line also. These are the most relevant African American/African women who are doin it right now. Beverly Johnson could have been on there cause of the wigs and weave and stuff but she is not really doin it big right now. Naomi doesn’t do anything but be pretty and bust people in the head. I mean do we REALLY want Naomi Campbell representing us, she is a great model don’t get me wrong but she hasn’t been getting the best press ladies. I think that we should be happy that there are so many beautiful black women to choose from to put on the cover and stop hating so much.

169.

Saturday, August 11, 2007 /

If someone is 1/2 black, 1/2 something else - they’re black??? so what happens to the other half of them…you know the half that helped to MAKE THEM in addition to the black half? that doesn’t count? yeah ok whatever.

i don’t care if they’re “considered black” or people see them as black, it doesn’t change the fact that they’re NOT full black. the one drop rule is bit outdated..genes don’t lie!

anyway, the cover is beautiful! even tho Tyra gets on my nerves…grr…

After actually reading the title I see why they chose Kimora now. I am still sad that my girl Naomi didn’t make the cover. I am happy for the positive influence these wonderful women have made in history. They are certainly doing big and wonderful things and I hope they continue on in their journeys.

I just may buy my first copy of Ebony.

@ 159, I was just going to say that. The article is about the business side of modeling, so all of those women have a right to be up there. I agree that Beverly Johnson should’ve been included though, even though her weave line isn’t that good lol.

They didnt put Naomi on the cover because they feared she would bring her Blackberry and whoop some a$$ with it. Alek Wek is so gorgeous and deserves to be up there. Tyra seems alittle out of place, and Kimora is just as black as anyone else, but im not a big fan of hers.

Reguardless of her race Kimora is doing the damn thing. Just because you aren’t a 100% black doesn’t mean you’re not black by law being 1/16 makes you black. I’m Jamacian, Creole, Puerto Rican, and Dominician and although my blood line is mostly hispanic. I’m black. Just like my cousin is full Dominician but black because her skin color. I’m just saying you can never tell who’s black.

i’m sooo late but 174 you’re an idiot!!!!!!!!!!! in africa they’re a bunch of tribes. their is cushite, bantu and NIilotes! that makes Iman black! i’m half bantu and nilote, i’m still black.

179.

NoirFemme

Saturday, August 11, 2007 /

Ironically #145, Kimora’s mother is a Japanese-Korean woman pretending to be 100% Japanese since being Korean isn’t considered to be as prestigious as being Japanese. Would you want a person with a degree of black heritage to pass as another race if they could because being black isn’t considered to be a good thing?

And #169–There is no one drop rule going on. Many people have responded by saying that “black” is not an ethnicity, it is a race. All the biracial and multi-racial women others have named (Kelis, Alicia Keys, Halle Berry, Amerie, etc) have said they are biracial/multi-racial, but identify as “black”.

And can people please read through? An early poster stated that Naomi and Liya were unavailable to be featured on the cover due to their work schedule. Not to mention that those four are on the cover because the issue is about iconic models who are businesswomen, and Tyra, Kimora, Alek and Iman are EASILY recognizable. The business of the magazine industry caters not to subscribers or to (for fashion issues) fashion-know-it-alls, but to the person standing in line whose eye is caught by the model on the cover. It doesn’t matter how iconic Veronica Webb or Beverly Johnson was–they are not easily recognizable by that shopper who impulsively buys the magazine at the store.

#183 HOTCANDI I agree with you. Am only now starting to wonder about the ages of most of the people posting comments in this space. Really, some comments are so stupid you read them and be like wha!?

A simple article about BLACK ENTREPRENURE MODELS and in no minute it involves surprise, surprise white and black issues, Beyonce (Like I didn´t see this coming) and all kinds of foolishness.

#174 WOWZA is an IDIOT! Thank You #176 KENYANPEBBLES for guiding that blind soul in the right direction.

Africa is a CONTINENT consisting of different COUNTRIES. The different Countries are populated by AFRICANS that are from different TRIBES and RACES. In any given country one can find as many as 42 different tribes wich can be grouped under bigger GROUPS like Cushites, Bantu, Nilotes among others hence the diversity in tribes and yes RACES among Africans.

If one is looking to find a 100% AFRICAN I suggest trying a TIME MACHINE and taking a trip down evolution way back when. You will have better luck on that endevour right there.

You can´t tell the % blackness of a person by:-
1: What Continent they come from
2: What Country they come from
3: Their Skin Color
4. What language they speak etc.

But we do all agree to call ourselves black.

Now lets all stop all this childishness and be happy for these supermodels up here.
Why can´t we all just get along?
Black People Unite!
Africans Unite!

This is why white folks are ever so ahead of us. I would love to hear the day that white folks argue on the net about who´s not white enough coz one is from Germany the other Irish, the other American, the other from South Africa the other being Greek etc.

188.

THe hell?

KIMORA IS NOT BLACK. SHE IS OF MIXED HERITAGE. WHY IS IT THAT WHEN SOMEONE HAS “SOME” BLACK IN THEM THEY ARE CONSIDERED TO BE BLACK. EVEN IF THEY’RE HALF WHITE/ASIAN/LATINO/WHATEVER. I HAVE A FRIEND WHO 1/4 WHITE 1/4 CHINESE 1/4 MEXICAN AND 1/4 BLACK- BUT IN THIS COUNTRY SHE CONSIDERED A BLACK WOMAN. LIKE THAT 1/4 BLACK OVERULES EVERYTHING. HAVING THAT LITTLE BLACK IN HER CONTAMINATES HER SO MUCH THAT IT BECOMES WHAT SHE IS. NO ONE CALLS ALICIA KEYS/ HALLE BERRY/ FAITH EVANS WHITE. WHEN THEY ARE AS MUCH WHITE AS THEY ARE BLACK. JUST A THOUGHT. AMERICAN’S ARE SO OBSESSED WITH COLOR. THE TRUTH IS WE ARE ALL MIXED WITH SOMETHING DOWN THE LINE..YES EVEN ALEK WEK. IT IS PRETTY IGNORANT TO THINK THAT ANYONE IS 100% BLACK EVEN IF THEY ARE DARKSKINNED. I AM A DARK SKINNED WOMAN. MY COUSIN HAS EXTREMELY DARK SKIN AND HER FATHER IS WHITE ( YES IT IS HER REAL FATHER- BELIEVE ME TESTS WERE TAKEN ). EVERYTHING IS EVERYTHING. AS FAR AS I’M CONCERNED. I JUST KNOW IF I HAVE A CHILD WITH A WHITE MAN OR ANYOTHER MAN THAT THEY WILL APPRICIATE EVERY PART OF THEM. BLACK ,WHITE, ASIAN, LATINO, NATIVE AMERICAN IS ALL BEAUTIFUL. WE GOTTA STOP KEEPING OURSELVES IN MENTAL SLAVERY BY HATING OURSELVES. MY PEOPLE ARE WEST AFRICAN UT I ACKNOLEDGE THE FACT THAT- DARK AS I AM- I COULD BE MIXED WITH ANYTHING. OPEN YOUR MINDS.

190.

Naena

Saturday, August 11, 2007 /

@99. My question is why don’t we also acknowledge that Halle berry, Alica Keys, Faith Evans, Mariah Carey are also white? Why don’t we call them white. They are just as much white as they are black.

Another question… why does any of this even matter for real?

Keith Reed

Saturday, August 11, 2007 /

Wassup everybody. Believe it or not, I’m actually the person who wrote the upcoming cover story that you’re all talking about. A friend of mine linked me to the discussion, so I figured I’d clear a couple things up.

With regard to the race of the women on the cover, I think it’s unfortunate that given the historic significance of this issue, that’s what some people have chose to focus on. If you look at the coverlines, you’ll see that the issue commemorates the last 50 years of blacks in the fashion industry; that’s a history that started 20 years before I was even a thought and longer than that, I’m guessing, for most people posting here.

Beyond that, it seems like there are a lot of people who are either immature or uninformed as to the difference between race and ethnicity. Race is a broad classification that could include people of various differing nationalities. Black, for example, generically refers to people who are at least partly descendant from Africa. All four women on the cover fit that bill: Kimora was born in St. Louis to an African-American father and Korean mother, Alek Wek is a native of Sudan’s Dinka tribe, Iman is a native Ethiopian and Tyra is an African-American. They all classify themselves at Black, but they clearly have differences, just like there’s a difference between black folks from New York, those from Atlanta and those from Inglewood, Cali.

Lastly, to those concerned with why your favorite model didn’t make the cover: consider that getting just one supermodel is a feat that takes negotiation, coordination of schedules, stylists, wardrobes, etc. Now multiply that by four. Instead of worrying about why Naomi wasn’t on the cover, ask yourself about the logistics of having to interview all four of these women, on the same day, as they were all having their hair and makeup done, with their respective entourages in tow, and having pictures shot. It’s an incredible undertaking. Beyond that, some of the names that were mentioned in the “why not her” comments were reached out to. Schedules conflict. People sometimes say no. It ain’t that serious. Nobody was dissed.

Hope this sheds some light for y’all. Whatever you think, go out and support when the magazine comes out. The story’s tight, if I do say so myself.

@ #40 - I’m sorry, but you are not black! You and Kimora as well as other mixed people need to learn to love your own race - BIRACIAL! True black people don’t have Asian, White, Phillipino, Mexican, etc…mixed in their blood. You are MIXED and Im sure that you are beautiful, but you have to learn to embrace your own race.

209.

Aych

Saturday, August 11, 2007 /

I hardly blog unless I feel VERY strongly about something.

the “white man’s world” media has warped the ideals of ethnic people everywhere. There some kind of subconscious mindset that is automatically geared towards straight hair, light skin, slender, delicate features, etc…

therefore there’s all this animosity in not only the black community but in asian and hispanic communities, mainly between what they call F.O.B.S or first generation immigrants and the ones who are more americanized (more into the white ideal).

No wonder we got dark skinned black people and “true africans” fussing at lighter skinned black people and vise-versa. way back when, light skinned black people looked down on the darker ones and even today it’s obvious that to many people, lighter is beautiful. well, THANK THE PAST PEOPLE, because that’s were all this nonsense came from, all of this frustration between races and within them as well.

WHY THE HELL CAN’T WE GET OUR FUCKING ACT TOGETHER?? white people used to be biased towards each other too for the same reasons, but now they’re all cool with each other. there’s no “you’re not ____ enough”, they all just white!

HOW ARE WE GOING TO BEAT DISCRIMINATION FROM OTHER RACES IF WE CAN’T BEAT IT WITHIN OUR OWN RACE?!?!?

I guess I feel a little bit better, but I still know people are going to have negative things to say so whatever. damn this is a long post.

210.

Aych

Saturday, August 11, 2007 /

and do you realize that even with all this negativity, these women are still going to live their lives like the badass women that they are? they’re banking, living a dream, and their passion is fueled by the lames that only want to bring them down. so keep ripping these women, it’ll make them stronger in the end.

Almost all of this confusion comes from how black people here in America have been, and continue to be mistaught by caucasians. I just find it funny that there are still negroes in 2007 going by the “one drop” or the “1/16″ rule, lol. The caucasian really is the god of this world because negroes still determine who they are based on what they teach. Like the sister; Tammy, touched on in post #102, a person is the seed of their father (Num 1:18, I Chr 23:24, Ezra 2:59, Job 8:8, Prov 17:6, Rom 1:3, etc.). The father determines both the sex of the child and it’s ethnicity/nationality. There is none of that 100%, 50%, 25%, 75% nonsense. For those that say “they don’t believe in the Bible” or “the Bible is ignorant”, do you believe that still using terms like “nilotic” or “1/16″ are enlightening? Lmao. Black people should think about the doctrines that enter into their brains and come out of their mouths because it sounds ridiculous and it shows how destroyed not just black people, but all people are due to the lies they’ve been made to believe are true (Matt 15:17-20). White men sat around a table prior to and during slavery and concocted ways to categorize the different types of black people to cause division and confusion amongst the slaves and determine which states would have the most power based on population and possible voters (Psa 64:2-6, Psa 83:2-5). They continue to do it today in concocting different methods to infiltrate and destroy the black community at their European Union and Bilderberg Commitee meetings. It wouldn’t surprise me if black votes are still counted at only 3/5 the amount of caucasian votes, if they’re counted at all.

The controversy between “nationality” and “ethnicity” is one purposefully caused so that people would associate themselves more with what “country” they’re from more than their racial lineage. To cause confusion, the term “nation” was changed from what race a person was to what land mass they were from or moved into (Prov 22:28). If someone calls themselves an “American”, you don’t know what race they are until you see them. When the Lord gave the caucasians the power to systematically conquer the different races (Dan 4:17, Rev 13:4-8), they renamed the names of the races, their lands, and the different landmarks within those lands (Psa 49:11). Even the caucasian actress Charlize Theron calls herself a “South African”, lol. Here in America, they teach all the races that are here that their own history and culture doesn’t matter and that all they should worry about is uplifting American “ideals”. Keep in mind that Satan rules through confusion (II Thes 2:8-12). In history, nationality and ethnicity were the same thing because all races traced their lineage after their male progenitor. The caucasians know that if they dissuade the other races, particularly black people, from embracing their history or can make them forget it outright, they can then assume the notable people of that race in history and exalt themselves in their movies and television (Job 9:24, Mic 2:1-3). They’ve been able to transform so many people in history who were black into caucasians and get away with it that it’s ridiculous ( i.e. Shakespeare, Beethoven, Christ, etc). Basically, almost every great black person that lived prior to the photograhic age has been made into a caucasian, or damn near to the point where blacks have no knowledge of their history (Isaiah 5:13, Hosea 4:6, Jer 17:4). That’s also why so many sisters comment on some of these threads saying, “how come white people or white women are the standard of beauty…”, so on and so forth. It’s because the caucasians have used their television and print media to establish their IMAGE as the standard (Rev 13:15).

In regards to the difference between blacks and Africans, it has nothing to do with “the white man raping black women”. The Lord is the one that set the difference between our people and the Africans (Ex 11:7, II Ch 14:12, Ezek 30:4-9, Zeph 2:12). The white man did rape many sisters during slavery but he also breeded the slaves like cattle. There were brothers that produced 40-50 children through 6-7 different women. The Africans are the ones that sold us into slavery in concert with the Arabs to white people (Deut 28:68, Joel 3:6,7). You can look at black people and see that we have a totally different spirit, facial structure, and phenotype from the Africans, for the most part. Honestly, and the Africans know this, they don’t like the blacks that were brought here on slaveships and they have as many derogatory names for us as the white man and the other races do (Deut 28:37, Psa 44:13,14). They try to blend in now because it’s popular to associate oneself with being “black” because we’re so influential on pop culture.

The blacks brought here on slave ships are the only race that can gain fame worldwide with the phenomenal talents that the Lord has blessed them with, go to any country or continent, and be worshipped as god-like figures (Psa 82:6, Zeph 3:19, John 10:34,35). A naysayer will say that the white celebrities can do it, but once again, they have the TV and movie images to promote themselves. Blacks have become icons DESPITE the coverage in the media due to us being the Lord’s chosen. No other race could overcome the systematic obstacles that have been consistently put in front of blacks. If we’re the same as the Africans, then the Africans should be even more influential than the blacks of the captivity because they still have their language, culture, and religions.

As a matter of fact, black people are pop culture and entertainment. The young black man and woman of the captivity is the most precious natural resource on the face of the earth, by far (Lam 4:1,2). Far more valuable than gold, silver, or diamonds combined (Isa 43:3,4). When you have a race of people; the blacks of the captivity, that spend 700 billion dollars per year ( the no.1 consuming race), will sell the illegal drugs that the government imports, basically single-handedly sustain the entertainment industry, will feed the multi-billion dollar prison industrial complex, will kill each other thus taking attention off of the deeper source of the corruption, and then on top of that, join your army and win wars for this land, and yet only control 0.05% of the American economy, what more can you ask for? You have something even better than slaves, you have zombies. Slaves might rebel, zombies will not.

@ 213 dayaum…!!British isnt a race its a f****** nationality, know the difference between race, ethnicity and nationality before you come up on here.

Yes your daughter is part of the black race, but her ethnicity is MIXED and finally her nationality is American. Who give a damn about the FYI?

I agree with whoever said African americans need to remove the African from ‘African american’.

It will help to remove the segregation that you people have between the whites of America and will also clear up the confusion, because in reality many of you are far removed from African roots considering that alot of you have so many races mixed in DNA that if you would have to go hundreads of years back to see true African genes. Im not being rude here or trying to say that Africa isnt apart of your history( because it is) but due to centuries of race mixing black people in America and black people in Africa probably share such a small percentage of the same DNA that they are a not African ( if this makes sense) and the way you mix up race ethnicty and nationality in the language you use( which cannot be helped), some like Kimora causes confusion because you compare Kimora who is half black to someone who is African (Alek Wek) and say that they are not he same, they are the same race( black) but not they have different ethnicity and even moreso different nationalities (Kimora is American, Alek Wek is African).

Do u understand!!!????……..

Let me give you another example…

Naomi is black( race), ethnicity: jamaican, chinese etc. Natonality:British !!

I do realise however that the english language causes great confusuion when we talk about people of the world.

For example, ‘Race’ is classified in to the following black, white hispanic Asian etc..

Do u realise that black and white really describe general skin tone whilst hispanic and asian describe ethnicities. It wold make sense if it was: Black White Yellow, etc… but then wait it just gets even more confusing because several black people or those of other races could just as easily fit into these catergories. Can u see what im getting at? Society has constructed language that makes it difficult to describe what it is we really mean..think about it…it’s jus the way it it is.. because we have need a system of catergorising peole as simply as possible. If we didnt we would have just as many races as we have people that would be ridiculous.

Could you imagine the amount of paperwork there would be whenever you filled a form.

Even if God made us all the same colour society would have made up a way of telling us apart. That why we have names so our lives can be seperated from anothers life.. Anyway let me go now this is turning into some philosophy type essay…

All of those women up on there deserve to be on there because they are part of the BLACK race, and are all sucessful… The others that didnt make it have already had their absences explained by the editor above so thats pretty straightforward.

As I stated earllier Alek Wek doesnt exemplify natural African beauty…maybe natural Sudanese beauty because she was born in Sudan… the same can be said for all of them up there. They represent themselves…

#216 Judah says:’ The young black man and woman of the captivity is the most precious natural resource on the face of the earth, by far (Lam 4:1,2). Far more valuable than gold, silver, or diamonds combined….’

No race is superior to any other in this world are you quoting from the same bible that says ‘all man was created equal’ it’s over analytical, self righteous so called ‘religious’ fanatics like you that breed and falsely justify the racist mindset.

Take away the ‘black’ from that sentence and you should find it makes more sense to you and everybody else

Ive seen many of ur ridiculous posts on here before but never had the time or energy to respond to you outrageous comments. Are you a pastor or training to be one? If so I suggest you get ur money back and get another hobbie fast and spread keep ur hate and blasphemous thoughts inside ur misinformed mind.

True Christians do not need to read things that pollute their mind and souls… and u call urself Judah…*kisses teeth*. Please…
