Six years ago today, Aaliyah Dana Haughton, Anthony Dodd, Eric Foreman, Scott Gallin, Keeth Wallace, Gina Smith, Douglas Kratz, Christopher Maldonado, and Luis Morales died tragically in a plane crash that shocked everyone. At the time of the tragic accident, Aaliyah had just released her 3rd album, Aaliyah and was at the top of her career. I can’t remember anyone who would say that they didn’t like her or anyone that’s met her who didn’t say she had a beautiful spirit and personality. So today, CL remembers the beautiful actress, dancer, and singer by posting some of your favorite Aaliyah tracks and videos. Rest in peace, Babygirl.

Thank you so much CL for posting something about Aaliyah. She is still missed and loved. She was my favorite female R and B artist, and she probably always will be. I miss her voice, dancing, style and innovative music (her and Timbo were unbeatable!). There will never be another. Period.

Loosing Aaliyah was so sad she was such a beautiful person on the inside and outside, i never met her but listening to her music all these years made me feel like i knew her, things happen for a reason but it feels like it was not her time yet, she was about to take her career to the next level, so sad we lost another one R.I.P Baby Girl.

That was my girl! My sis called me at around midnight in August ’01 because she saw the story of Aaliyah’s death on Headline News. I seriously thought she was joking. That was a shocker! ‘One in a Million’ was definately my jam, back in the day. Rest in Peace!

Brian made valid point…I don’t remember anyone disliking Aaliyah. Everyone was always happy for her success and was always excited about her growth as a artist. Her spirit seemed very positive and loving….says ALOT for someone that alot of people didn’t know. The female artists now will never compare to Aaliyah, but it was a different time then. There will never be another like her…no matter how hard they try. And no one compares in spirit and talent…she was loved by many…never hated on and her sweetness never seemed fake like a certain singers out now.

She was and still is my favorite singer and will always be one of my top idols. It doesn’t seem like it’s been 6 years since she departed from this earth. I can’t imagine how the Haughton’s are doing on this day…it must be really painful for not only them, but the others who lost loved ones on the Cessna. Everyone, today if you can please go visit aaliyah.com and give your thoughts and things. There are some really good things on there today, including a beautiful poem by Aaliyah’s brother, Rashad intitled “Forever Young”. But I must go now, because I could write a book about today. She was unlike any other artist. Her personality was genuine. She never hid from her fans. She spoke with such eloquence and she alsways kept it real. RIP My Friend!!!

RIP Aaliyah,. She was a big inspiration to a lot of these young female r&b artists today but none of them can live up to what she was. Her songs, beauty, and spirit will continue to live on for a long time

Thank you so much for giving this woman some love. I know people think us Aaliyah fans are obsessed with her but you must realize that she was part of the “original blueprint” for futuristic R&B. Her success not only brought two upstarts (Tim & Missy)into an already crowded marketplace of producers, but helped laid the foundation for the current versions of some of the most popular pop acts out at the moment (Justin Timberlake, Nelly Furtado). When you see all these poptarts coming out with albums, you cannot deny you see a lil bit of /.\ in them.
Thank you /.\ for your contribution to music, and thanks to her family who’s shared some of their most intimate and private moments over the past six years. I know it hasn’t been easy for them, but hopefully we’ve helped them to cope with their loss as they have helped the world deal with her absence in today’s music. When I blow out the candle tonight the smoke that rises up to the heavens is a personal message of love from one of your many adoring fans to you.
