DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT: DIMEPIECE
Tuesday, August 21, 2007

This week spotlight focuses on Dimepiece. Dimpiece, a hip, urban, and edgy collection comprised of funky tees is a lifestyle and brand aimed at catering to “all the boss b*tches dipped in sauce”. These are the females that have the potential to make a positive impact and consistently turn heads. Summed up in a mission statement:
A DimePiece™ is a woman who appeals to her audience with genuine swag. She is a self-governing revolutionary who embodies all that is sexy. She proclaims her opinion and attitude through her adventurous dress. She is educated by the books as well as the streets. Our products are for all who want to make a statement and aren’t afraid to leave the restrictions at the door. Lets be ago-getter, a kitten with claws, a fashion aficionado and a memorable individual who is essentially the perfect ten.

Dimepiece was started by Ashley Dimes, Laura Marie (and another addition behind the scenes) in Los Angeles three years ago. The two ladies (pictured left) both received fashion degrees and started their seven piece line the summer of 2007 with the intent to change up things for women in urban fashion.
“We really felt like it was important to portray a positive message and substantial meaning behind the gear
itself.” The ladies say in a press release. “It was crucial for us that we created an identity that speaks for itself through its taste and visual communication. We want to avoid gimmicks and the biting schemes that are seen all-to-often in the market.”

Interesting screen name to #7….wow
As far as the line… I think they’re heading in a good direction. I really like the colors they used. I think the photography might be drawing me in a lil more than the line itself tho.

i think the clothes look good. the bright colours of the clothes remind me of how nu-ravers in London dress. they look like clothes that could be in an editorial for the super super magazine.

I HEARD OF THIS LINE IN SUMMER 2006. IT’S OK…NOTHING REALLY AMAZING. IT REALLY REMINDS OF THE PIECES I SEEN FROM THE FALL ”06” HOUSE OF DEREON LINE MIXED WITH A LITTLE BABY PHAT AND A SPRINKLE OF PARISH…LOL. I SEEN SOME OF THE PIECES FROM KELIS’S NEW LINE AND SHE HAS SOME DOPE SHIT COMING OUT SPRING 2008!!!

THEY COULD AT LEAST HAVE SOME BLACK MODELS REPPIN THEIR LINE SINCE IT’S A BLACK INSPIRED (DIMEPIECE, FOXYBROWN ETC.) LINE!! BLACK PEOPLE ALWAYS GET THEIR IDEAS RIPPED OFF AND THEN THEY THINK WE’RE DUMB ENOUGH TO TURN AROUND AND BUY THE SH%T WHEN WE AREN’T EVEN BEING REPRESENTED!!

no homo- but SHOUTS OUT TO YOU because that is the ILLest display name I have seen thus far.
I also agree with what you are saying as far as the accessorizing goes. The concept of the tee’s are orignial and fresh out of the box but the styling is past-due. I was just putting together an ensemble today with a fancy pencil skirt and tshirt and it was hot. Good insight- and much bless to the line!

It’s cute but I don’t know if wearing it actually has a positive impact unless you’re looking for a man. This may be cute to wear if you’re a teenager or early 20s but as a woman in my 30s this is definitely not my style.
Good luck to them, though.

Yeah yeah whatever. Just sounds like another hustla to me, seducing y’all out of ur panties (and MONEY most importantly) by whispering sweet nothings in ya ear - i.e. a mission statement trying to convince u that as soon as u put on a DimePiece of clothing, it magically endows u with the mentality of superwoman or sumthin. Yeah right, just like crack. To TRULY be of that mentality IS TO KNOW oneself and the fact that the only sustainable source of that mentality is INSIDE u. All external things can only serve as placebos & catalysts for addiction to those things, and are therefore unsustainable & ephemeral as a source of INNER power. But y’all aint trying to hear that, and that’s why ur egos are a hustlas best friend. A “self-governing revolutionary” would make her own clothes and not wear what sum1 else tells her to.

There clothes are alright, but it looks like it’s going to be for skinny woman lol I read a book yesturday called Doing His Time (Who said dating a baller was easy?) by Nichelle Walker the book was OFF THA CHAIN, it reminded me of The Coldest Winter Ever, I read the book in four hours i couldn’t put it down so if you want a good read pick it . anyway she say’s that she’s having a clothing line called Icey come out, So if ya’ll can post something from her line I would love to see her style it sound’s like it will be fly.

Finally something other than “swop meet” looking Urban apparel other than Baby Phat and Apple Bottom. No offense, but a lot of these cloting lines suck, especiallly H.O.D., which Beyonce can bearly fit in those damned clothes, hence, Momma Knowles had to come out with a fuller figure line…so I say” get gurls” and give Kimora and these other lines a run for their money! LOLOLOL at the Foxy Brown “Root of all Evil” Tee…her dumb azz just got arrested again for lying to the N.J. Police for some new damned drama…Throw Fox’s azz in the can finally please so we can hope for a somekind of Female to rep hip-hop, because if Remy and Fox is all we have right now, hip-hop is over from the feminine perspective!

like some of the posters are saying it looks like basic tees to me. fitting tees with graphics. I don’t think I’ll be wearing a shirt with “bitch” on it, I know how they mean “bitch” but to go out in public with my kids, that’s won’t be a good look. This line is probably more for the younger crowd-the 18-25.

If you want to be a true fashion diva or divo(for all you guys)lol put together your own shyt. Designing your own t shirts isnt that hard to do if you can come up with a creative concept.Lets face it these companies will charge an arm and leg for their clothing and it doesnt look worth what they charge . Furthermore it wont be so unique when every body and their mama start rocking it, which people do when trends start to take off . Me Im into alot of vintage accessories so I know that 100 other bytches wont have on the same shyt as me when I hit the town!

I THINK IT’S FUNNY HOW THE MAJORITY OF PPL ON HERE ARE SO QUICK TO HYPE THE LINE UP. YEA, THEY HAVE A COUPLE OF CUTE PIECES, BUT AS ANOTHER COMMENTER MENTIONED. . WHERE ARE THE BLACK/BROWN MODELS????? IT JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THE HOOD THROWS AN ASSLOAD OF MONEY INTO THIS COMPANY BUYING UP ALL THEIR STUFF, JUST TO HAVE THE OWNERS RELEASE A STATEMENT SAYING THAT DIMEPIECE WAS NEVER INTENDED FOR “CERTAIN DEMOGRAPHICS” (READ BLACK FOLK). I’M ALL FOR PPL HAVING A HUSTLE, HELL, I’M ALL FOR PRETTY CLOTHES. BUT DAMN, HOW MANY TIMES ARE WE GOING TO LET MOFO’S STEAL OUR SWAGGER, MAKE MONEY OFF OF IT, THEN DISS US. SERIOUSLY PPL, YOUR SOUL HAS TO BE WORTH MORE THAN THE PRICE OF A GRAPHIC TEE.
