SAMATA ANGEL (PICTURED LEFT) & HER DESIGNS

Here at Concreteloop, we always like to introduce you all to up and coming talent - like young Ghanaian clothing designer Samata Angel.

Samata has made her own fashion label called Samata’s Muse, which will be featured in Nolcha Fashion Week in New York City this September. Angel is the first black British female designer to partake in such an event and her work has been already requested by celebrities, such as Jennifer Lopez and Gwen Stefani.

Her other accomplishments include a recent nomination for ‘Exceptionally Creative’ at the British Female Inventors and Innovators Awards 2007. Other than fashion, she also has a talent in singing and will debut an album next year.

LOL @ OKPO and KENYANPEEBLES,

I am from Trinidad. For the life of me I don’t understand the IGNORANT questions but one day some poeple asked my Granny & I how we got here..

She answered:

Well, we was swingin’ on di trees in di jungle, ah call fuh ah conference with di Monkeys and ah ask if ah could leave. The tell meh OK. So ah pack muh bags and swing on di trees to get to the boat with di bananas! Then ah reach..

My Grandma is a HOT B*TCH!!! Their facial expressions were Priceless! And they always got that eagered look on their faces like they are getting some National Geographic knowledge.

I have been asked how I learned to speak and write English. Also an Hatian friend of mine was asked if they wore clothese in Haiti..

36.

ALL THE GIRLS ARE BEAUTIFUL.. YOU ARE BASING HER BEAUTY ON EUROPEAN STANDARDS! I HAPPEN TO THINK THAT HIGH CHEEK BONES, THICK LIPS AND HIGH FOREHEADS ARE SEXY! STOP DEFINING BEAUTY! IT MEANS DIFFERENT THINGS FOR DIFFERENT PEOPLE.

Congratulations Samata….very seldom do you see a young black designer get stellar props. The fashion design business is so very tight knit, they do all sorts of outlandish things to sabotage the “newbie”. 1 garment considered not “in” and it’s lights out!..career is blemished forever!…The shirt is very nice for someone of the model’s figure…however i believe that you are truly a designer if you can appeal to the masses.Let’s be realistic tho, African American women range in all different shapes and sizes…and size 2? Adult?….that group is very small….she’s limiting her sales,oh please , by all means envision your designs on celebrities…that WAS the goal i’m sure.,but take lessons from the ole heads….Mizrahi designs for the runway, as well as Target! …would you rather see your designs on a few people?…or in stores throughout the world?….try not to have too many irons in the fire because something will go lacking. Good Luck!

BIG UP CONCRETE LOOP for breaking Samata first. In London the girl is FYAH!!!! For real for real. Designs are supa hot, the girl is supa fine and music on the way. Can’t believe you guys picked up on her already tho’ Here she’s a brand all over the place - she’s about to blow for real.

Does anyone eat anymore? Used to be a time when it was “goofy” to be too skinny.

64.

Jeanette

Wednesday, August 8, 2007 /

I can agree with some of what Coffee is saying but not all - those models aint skinny at all! I check the site and they go from size 6 - 12 and I read an interview with her before where she said that because she is petite ~(size 8) she always wanted to cater to women of her shape (curves) and build as well as bigger. In London most starting designers only go up to size 12 or max 14 due to budget too as it costs more to do more sizes but I think having 4 sizes is a great start and from what I can see the label does bigger sizes if requested?

Big up Samata - well done!!!!!!!

LMAO at all the African comments

@ 34 –you’re granny sounds a hot mess! You know what’s funny is I’m full blood Nigerian, and I always get asked if I’m Jamaican/Carribean because of my parent’s accent, haha.

Lol, but I’ve learned to accept the comment misconstrued thoughts about Africans. If you’re not living in the jungle with monkeys and such, you’re either living in poverty with a village of AIDs infected people. Sad day we’re living in I tell ya.

BIG UPS to Samata!!! Its always nice to see us Black people doing good, especially those from the homeland. Though Im not from Ghana (NAIJA representing!!!)Ive gotta show much respect for the Ghanaian designers making a name for themselves (Samata, Oswald Boateng, Nana Boateng)….on another note, to all my Africans, have you seen Louis Vuitton ripping off the “Ghana Must Go” bags and showcasing it like its new in his fall line? Total rip-off
