GEARING UP: HER NAME IS NICOLE

NICOLE SCHERZINGER ON THE SET OF “WHATEVER YOU LIKE”

Nicole Scherzinger feat. T.I. – Whatever You Like

With a new single produced by Polow Da Don, a video just being shot and a release date of October 16 being confirmed, I think it’s safe to say that Nicole is ready to stake her claim. Why, do you ask, is her album appropriately titled Her Name Is Nicole? Well, the lead Pussycat Doll was tired of being known as just that: the lead singer from the PCD, so in order to gain her own identity, she reintroduces herself to the industry that she’s worked in for so many years.

Her Name Is Nicole is a collaboration between herself and some of the hottest producers in the game today. With songs from The Neptunes, Polow Da Don, Ne-Yo, Akon, Will.I.Am (with whom she’s worked with before on the PCD project), and Timbaland, you can tell that budgeting definitely wasn’t a priority with Scherzinger’s project.

  1. I like Nicki, and she can blow. Her voice is ridiculous. I just wonder if she’s gonna b leavin’ Pussycat Dolls or not…. I’ll be listenin’ 2 her ish…

  2. @sxycarmel26 some artists are unique like m.i.a. but yes, the industry is pretty bland right now

i think she’ll do really well but she already bores me therefore i won’t buy her cd

  3. blackisbeautiful

Um her song is okay not trash but okay..but I never had a problem with Nicole because she is gorgeous but this song sounds like any other song that has came out in past 2 years

  4. ms dynomite

yay! another non black girl trying to sound black and rapper going on the produce them. hoenstly why cant we get some ppl like india.arie, heather headley, etc etc instead we get the same old beyonce/rihanna and assorted white girls who are trying to sound rnb and black ppl eat them the fuck UP.

  5. I don’t know about this song………..but her album is going to be hot!

She actually can sing and she’s gorgeous, she doesn’t need her other sidekicks to sell!

  6. Angel

Straight up garbage, T.I. is the only one I give props other than that GARBAGE.

in response to dynomyte, white black blah blah music is music it is an expression and a reflection of your own personality and swagger. if a girl like nicole can do it then why hate on her! people will shine in this industry , if they show passion and a natural flow to a genre. i say you should apprieate in stead of genrating hate…. i am guna suport this girl because i know she loves her music and it deffinaty shows if you took a moment out of your daily schedule!!!
theres not alot of REAL artist out there so she has my vote despite colour!!!!!

    and twani loving your comment…

nicole is awesome. okay song, but we all know she can sing much better than this. as you all say, very blindfold me-ish. but i know her album’s gonna be fire.

  9. Michael

It reminds me of Kelis’ “Blindfold Me.” However, with so many artists and so much much being produced on an hourly if not secondly basis by some of the same producers, it is hard to sound unique. I still like the song though, so it’s all good.

I really like Nicole since day one with Eden’s Crush. Even then I knew that she could make it in this industry. She’s pretty and she has a great voice. If it wasn’t for her and Melody PCD wouldn’t even did that well. Even though they are good dancers. I wish her so much luck and success with this solo debut, it’s a rough business out there.

  12. ms dynomite

Unique, I understand music is music. What Im saying is that people are blind if they dont see that black women are disappearing from the music scene, with the only ones that are really popular right now being beyonce and rihanna, and MAYBE ciara, though not really as much as Beyonce/Rihanna. You cant tell me you dont notice the lack of black women as love interests in music videos by bobby valentino and fabolous. Like Amy Winehouse; this toothless white woman is seen all over black celebrity websites yet NO mention of other just as talented black females like india.arie, heather headley, etc etc. We get Corrine Bailey Rae maybe, but she’s mixed (we wont get into that).

Make no mistake. Polow da Don even bragged in King Magazine that he was the first to “Take White girls to Black clubs and give them that flava”. Black girl flava that is. He took them to the clubs to watch how the Black girls do it because history has show us time and time again, that White people who can emulate Black people will sell more records. Just ask Elvis and Eminem. Nicole is a product of that reality. Unfortunately black ppl are more supportive of a non black musician doing black music than a black musician doing black music. One must ask, why is that. Ciara gets hated on for not being able to sing and Gwen Stefani is praised. HMMMMMMm

  13. Why does this sound like Keli’s blindfold me & Chilli’s wateva the hell the name of that song was, straigt jack em , wateva. Come on now.

  14. MIzzchelle

I do see this single on the Top 100! It’s gonna be on the countdown on Kiss FM stations across the country. Does that make the song good? No. Does this song appeal to the general market? Yes!

That being said she’s just doing what she needs to to make a living. I can’t nor can anyone else single handly stop the production of lame music. Other than to not support it with your dollars.

Lastly, I say enjoy the fame and money while you can, because beauty fades.
I’m not hating. It’s just that most of the comments have some sort of reference to her beauty. It seems the being physically attractive makes it appectable to be a decent singer with no orginality.

okay i understand your views and everyone has a rite to the own opinion. but the problem with the indusrty is its blending, its mixing, evoulving with every year that passes. i complety agree with the amy whitehouse coment she’s an un explained mistery and being from the uk myself i am embarrassed and apologise. gwen and ciara can not even be put in the same catogory gwen is a product and ciara is an arist . its just this whole ‘white women cant do it’ thats the comment that throws me because i believe real music comes from within and now days you can spot a real from a fake and black women will neva fade in this industry. because people like beyonce, missy, keri, eve, mary j,alicia(bi racial, yes but still black) monica, and may i add the best the only aaliyah and more will come. r’n'b plays a big part in my life and i look up to all these women and respect them. colour dont come into it. and the elvis and eminem remark i look at them an no way do they emulate anything but there passion for the music that they love and choose to express in the way they feel is rite 4 them. thanks for posting bk ms d. you can see we both care a great deal for the music and care about its future, i send respect to you. x

    Gotta love the game
    Gotta hate hate the game
    At the same time
Is what makes the game a shame

  17. gg boo

It’s a little scrappy, but the girl really can sing. Not saang, but she got good tone. I heard her featured on some opera song too, so she’s not just doing this R&B thing, she’s trying to do the whole thing. She is all right…

  18. Stop listening after 48 seconds….she can’t sing….PCD always been factory made and fake and none of them can’t sing.

  19. Although this song doesn’t show it, Nicole actually has a great voice.

This song is pretty average, and while it’ll get people to download it, I don’t know if it’ll get people to buy her CD…

I actually prefer Melody to Nicole. But both are good.

  20. Kieona

Some of you all have lost your mind .
Nicole Scherzinger can sing her ass off .
This song does not do her justice .

  21. ms dynomite

Unique: I am not one to say that white women cannot do soulful music. I hope that it doesnt come off as being bitter b/c Im far from that. I just hope that people recognize that there is a movement to have white/latin girls do “music with flava” and market them. I disagree though, Elvis and Eminem were doing black music in order to make themselves rich. Most of elvis’s hits were done by black people who did not get recognized because they were black, so they gave to Elvis to market and it create mass appeal. Eminem even said in one of his songs “I am the worst thing since Elvis Presley to do black music so selfishly and use it to get myself wealthy.” Im simply saying in a few year there may not even be a Beyonce b/c there will be some white female that will copy what Beyonce does and they will blow up even bigger thn her, b/c white people will love it and black people will be willing to accept them (or be told that) b/c they have that “flava” or “street cred” its ok. I agree about Amy Winehouse, she is talented, but I dnt understand why she’s given so much more attention than many much more talented black artists.

  22. JonasBro

This video of Get Into It is on pcdweb.net. She looks hot just as that pic shows.

  23. thats good for Nicole it was kinda obvious that she was gonna go solo soon anyway being that she was the main one in the forefront. Who didn’t know her name? It was always mentioned when she would collaborate with someone else. The real question should be How the hell do you pronounce my last name?

  24. ShoNuff

damn CL yall are LATE…heard this a while back on rap-up.com….they got some of the singles from the album..step yo game up!

  25. ShoNuff

and the reason this sounds exactly like Blindfold Me and Straight Jack (or whatever that Chilli song was) is becuz Polow Da Don recycled da beat!

  26. zo

DEFINITELY CHECKING FOR THIS CHICK AND THIS ALBUM

    LOVING “WHATEVER U LIKE”

“SHES HOT AS A STOVE!! HER NAME IS NICOLE!!”

  27. Nicole is the next big thing. And yes SHE CAN SING, go listen to some old Eden’s Crush songs or even the non-singles on the PCD album. I like this song, I dnt think it sounds like Fergie, Fergie is more old school hip-hop. I think some people are intimidated by her looks b/c c’mon she’s gorgeous but dnt hate! Nicole is about to be all over the industry. (and that fuckin’ for tracks comment, that was out of line)

  28. ci ci

the beat sounds like blindfold me (by Kelis) a lil bit.

  29. Rhannie

Dang…how she “straight jack” the beat like that, though? hahaha…She gets an F for originality…and an A+ for having T.I. in the song. Rep that ATL…

  30. ms dynomite is correct in her rundown of the industry even though yes, music is music, and you can see through faux-soul in a heartbeat. But the truth of the matter is, white people are always looking for the next “white hope”. I see it on sports blogs where white people complain about all the black football and basketball players getting top draft picks and why white bball players are getting overlooked or drafted in lower rounds. Why do you think they brought David Beckham over? Because the white box seat owners and white fans are tired of the way the NBA and NFL has degenerated with all of the problems the black players are causing(Kobe and the rape, Michael Vick and the dogfighting, Ron Artest and his wife-beating, etc)–NBA hasn’t been the way it was since 1995 and white sports fans are looking for another sport to watch: soccer–which is mainly played in the US by white kids, Latinos and African immigrants. No black Americans from the “hood’ there! There’s even this white British kid who is getting pumped up because he is a sprinter–there goes the Great White Hope in track and field now that all the icons are either retired or disgraced.

I’m digressing a bit, but with rap sales down 33%(double the depression of the entire industry), and sports going the way that it is, black people are falling into an abyss and aren’t even aware of it. For so long we’ve coasted on being “cool” in music and sports that we’ve been deceived into thinking it would be like this forever. Now that the ride is over, we’re going to have nothing to fall back on because black parents didn’t make their kids excel in school, new generations of black wealth and businesses haven’t been replenished, and black solidarity has splintered.

  31. Dame

Polow produced both tracks he need to step his game up.

  32. billieholiday

Personally, I think there is something lacking in the music game right now especially with the females, BUT that being said, I do feel that Nicole and Keri Hilson will be the exceptions. Nicole is stunning, and an amazing vocalist. she CAN SING!!! True this song does not really give her justice, but with T.I. on, it will definetly appeal to the mainstream as well as the 12-18 MTV crowd.

As 4 #64, WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! UNLESS U STILL LIVE IN THE 1950′S, MUSIC IS MUSIC, THERE IS NO COLOUR! WHO CARES ABOUT COLOUR? It’s not like black female artists are exctinct! yes for the past few years there has been a surge in non black artists gaining popularity, Gwen Stefani, Nelly Furtado, Amy Winehouse, Joss Stone, Fergie, etc. but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they are taking over the world and that R&B is being wiped out by white artists! There is still a wider ratio of Black Females doing their thing in the game!

  33. GarlicBread

At first I just thought it was iight…but i think the song is way better than “Straight Jack”…. When they played it on the radio, it sounded so good in my car…. I think its gonna blow….I think Nicole is gonna be way bigger than she already is….

  34. ms dynomite

billieholliday i do not need to wake up. It obvious you do not care that black female artists are going out and different ethnic women are taking their place. if you dont or choose to be blind to it, thats up to you ;)

  35. DressedM0DEL

    I LIKE T.I’S S0UND 0N THIS…BUTI AGREE IT D0ES S0UND A LIL LIKE BLINDF0LD ME… THE END 0F THE S0NG IS HAWT…

  36. MzBizNiz

omg are u people not reading??? its been stated already that polow produced the beat & polow used it with chilli, nicole and kelis

  37. mixedpapi

    omg she sexy as hellll!

  38. I CANT UNDERSTAND SHIT SHE SAYIN…….

  39. keyana

nicole is a very talented woman.her vocals are amazing plus her stage persona is crazy and she hypes it the fuck up everytime. i am a fan of nicole and i have been a fan ever since i heard her voice but i will say that she didn’t bring IT on this song right here(plus this song sounds a lot like another song i recently heard).nicole has a lot of vocal power but she didn’t show that on this song but once her album drops everyone will see what she’s REALLY bout.nicole differs from all these non singing ass chicks like cassie and other chicks out there like that.nicole is the REAL fuckin deal. i’m proud that she’s made it this way.
and #56 i agree with u ALL THE WAY

  40. 81. I’m perfectly sane…..anyone can sing….just not well……she’s one of them.

  41. Tokyo Blue

I can picture the video. Abs and Ass everywhere!
But hey its works so I ain’t mad @ her.

  42. kym kym

This song is pretty dope its a big step up from Nikki and the girls (pcd). Not to mention T.I. is on the track so that makes it even better. I knew that she’d eventually go solo.

  43. Anni Stack

There’s no doubt that this song is gonna be major. I’ve been bumping this one for a few months now,and I knew, from the first time heard it, that it was gonna have a huge impact on the industry. October is not soon enough! The album will most likely be mediocre. But if she releases 2 more singles like this one, I can see it going platinuk 2 times over!

  44. john black

Generally I do not post on blogs, but I would like to say that this post really forced me to do so! really nice post.
