Keyshia Cole – Shoulda Let You Go
Keyshia Cole’s single “Let It Go” has gotten plenty of love, but with her album, Just Like You dropping on the 25th of September, Keyshia has room to squeeze out another single before the album drops. This time around, Keyshia has worked with some of the biggest names in R&B and hip hop production, with producers ranging from Bryan-Michael Cox to Scott Storch to Rodney Jerkins.
Today on Atlanta’s people station, V103 (103.3 FM), they premiered her new single, “Shoulda Let You Go,” which is pretty much in the same vain as the first single, “Let It Go.” I’m not sure how I feel about this being the second single, because it’s not as strong as “Let It Go” was, but maybe it’s just one of those things that have to grow on me. So what do you think? Is “Shoulda Let You Go” hot… or not?

The compliation is similar to MJB’s Enough Cryin, but I don’t think she’s swagga jackin, I think that they have similar struggles and it comes out like that. But no doubt she should change it up a little “I Shoulda Cheated” “Let You Go”, “I Changed MyMind” yeah she should go ahead and switch it up some, but she may be going through it and needed to get personal about it again…

Maybe its not Keyshia, maybe its the production and them trying to pigon hole her in sounding like Mary. I think she should have done tracks that had that 80s club tempo like “last night”. Ur girl was really sanging on that track. Anyway she is still my girl and I will be buying the album when it drops and singing about the same dude or whoever might be therpy for her, a dude can really fuck with a girl’s psyche.

I like the song, but she is singing about similar things. First, she’s telling another woman to let their relationship go, and now she’s saying that she should have let “him” go. Once she gets some variety, she will be REALLY good!

I think in terms of Swagga Jacking, I don’t think thats the case. The same thing happened to Rihanna when she came out: everybody compared her Beyonce. There were similarites and now Rihanna is her own person. For Keyshia, I do feel like they may be pushing her into that direction because of the comparision. She has very soulful and sorrowful vocals as does MJB so thats why every time she does a song that is remotely similar to MJB people immediately compare her. No one calls swagger jacking when Beyonce did Deja Vu and completely ripped off Tina Turner. In her case, since Beyonce is an established artist she was paying “homage” to Tina and Joesphine Baker. Call it for what it is! Established or not. Swagger Jacking works two ways.
Also, Beyonce was major swagger jacking when she did her performance for “Get Me Bodied” at the BET awards this year. Her entrance was the exact same as Kylie Minogue (Can’t get you out of my head) during her performance for “Come into my world” for her KylieFever tour. Its you don’t believe me just go on youtube.com and watch Kylie Minogue’s performance and you will see. No one said anything about that at all. I love Beyonce but people don’t call it like is. If you love the artist or not, swagger jacking is still there. But I guess fans will always justify it when they’re favorite artist does it.
