Keyshia Cole – Shoulda Let You Go
Keyshia Cole’s single “Let It Go” has gotten plenty of love, but with her album, Just Like You dropping on the 25th of September, Keyshia has room to squeeze out another single before the album drops. This time around, Keyshia has worked with some of the biggest names in R&B and hip hop production, with producers ranging from Bryan-Michael Cox to Scott Storch to Rodney Jerkins.
Today on Atlanta’s people station, V103 (103.3 FM), they premiered her new single, “Shoulda Let You Go,” which is pretty much in the same vain as the first single, “Let It Go.” I’m not sure how I feel about this being the second single, because it’s not as strong as “Let It Go” was, but maybe it’s just one of those things that have to grow on me. So what do you think? Is “Shoulda Let You Go” hot… or not?

I think that Keyshia has great potenial as an artist. Though at first I hated “Let It Go” when I first heard it…now I love it. It seems the song material is very much the same, like she had nothing else to write about for another song. Hopefully this album will offer more…I’m looking forward to it.
I wouldn’t say that the song is wac or corny, it’s aight! I love me some Keyshia Cole!!! Especially since she credits Brandy with being her greatest musical influence. But the song does kind of put me in the mind of MJB’s “Enough Cryin’” but go figures, Rodney Jerkins produced the track, and Rodney is known for Trying to make people’s music and make them sing like the greats, that’s Why Brandy left his ass alone b/c he was trying to give everybody that Brandy feel and only Brandy can do the Brandy thing, and only Mary can do the Mary thing!!! Rodney, you ain’t learned nothing yet?????

It is so funny how some people criticize Keyshia’s new songs saying she needs to be creative and original and she wants to take MJB’s spot. But people used to criticize Mary the same way if not worse. Mary J. Blige in the early 90s would get chew’d up by critics from her sampling music, being too ghetto, no originality, bad attitude, to her music having the same topics. But she still managed to go platinum on all of her offical albums. And MJB music did not change until she got herself together mentally. So as long as people keep having relationship issues especially young black women Keyshia will continue to sell records And she just very well may be MJB of her time. Like Mary was Aretha of her time.
