Hurricane Katrina 2 years later things have gotten only worse. Crime has skyrocketed and folks don’t have money to rebuild. It’s amazing that this is how the government still isn’t helping us 2 years later.

I live in Southern Mississippi and there are still people living in FEMA trailers and with FEMA tarp on there homes. The Gulf Coast is still a mess. It’s still hard for a lot of people.

ALSO ALOT OF THINGS ARE OPENING UP AND BULIDINGS ARE GETTING REBUILD…THE ONLY THING THATS REALLY HAS GOTTEN WORST IS CRIME

I heard about the crime being up. I’m so sorry to hear that crime is so high. I thnk the reason may be b/c people have no where to turn the Govt left them high and dry and are still doing nothing so people resort to crimes to make ends meet. Im not saying this is by any means right my heart goes out to New Orleans.

I can not believe yall slipped. My prayers goes out to those lost in Katrina and those who are trying to get their lives together again 2 long years later. And to # 3 Keep ya head up. I watched the documentary about a month ago and I had to pause it and walk away at times. Bless the victims.

Thank you so much for hyping Spike’s When The Levees Broke. Earlier in the year, I ordered the 3 disc set from Netflix and became so entranced that I watched all 3 discs in a row, including the extras.

And it’s haunted me since then.

This is truly REQUIRED viewing. People should know that initially, the government DID NOTHING to help the victims in the first days of this tragedy! And fuk Bush going to New Orleans and saying that more help is on the way. Not surprisingly, Mississippi got more aid than New Orleans.

I apologize for not posting about this yesterday. I was actually waiting on clearance to post another clip of the Spike Lee Documentary, but never got a response from HBO. Therefore, I went on youtube and found other touching scenes from the doc.

For all of our brothers and sisters..(also in christ)…who are still trying to live out that horrible situation….I pray for you to rise up. This was truly a sad and tragic moment in US history. The hurricane was a nuatural disaster but the way it was handled was truly the disastrous part. Many lives have been forever changed by this event, and I will continue to keep those affected in my prayers. It’s all about economics. Money makes the world go round. Poor people don’t count to the government and they proved it with their “fast” action in helping the victims of Hurrican Katrina. Shame on us America.

I’m from da N.O. and I really hate this time of year these days. I lived in New Orleans until August 28, 2005. I left the day before it went down. I lost a lot but it’s all material. If I could have my moms back (who passed shortly after the storm), I would lose it all again. My prayers are still with everyone that is still in the struggle. I miss home so much (I live in VA now) and although they consider this the south, it just isn’t the same as the deep south. There is nothing like the great city of New Orleans.

This is a shame, Bush and the usa rush to give aid to other countries in a heartbeat, dumping billions into a war that I still don’t know what’s going on other innocent people getting killed. I went down for the Essence Music Festival in July….the soul of NO is still there. The government is full of shit before Katrina and post Katrina. If some of you were so concerned about this being posted yesterday than why didn’t you send the CL staff emails asking for a post. This is a really sad situation. I went to New Orleans to volunteer last February & even then 6 months later it looked pretty much the same as it had weeks after the levees “broke.” I put that in quotes because all the residents I came in contact with were convinced they were blown up, but that’s another story.

So many people down there are still suffering and lost everything they had, which in many cases wasn’t much to begin with. Many are wayward, suicidal, and have lost hope. If nothing else, hopefully it was a wake-up call for those who thought they were guaranteed anything from the US government. Now we are at the height of the Hurricane season with over 12 weeks remaining & the levees are in a much worse state than they were in 2005. At lease Bush still had the time to fly in again for a photo op.

OH AND PLEASE DON’T GET ME STARTED ON STATE FARM INSURANCE……if they shit don’t stink to high heaven!!!! Didn’t have flood insurance…you screwed!!

Didn’t have wind damage….you screwed!!! Paid 25+ on home insurance in New Orleans….YOUR ASS IS SCREWED!!! People only getting 50% or less on what they paid on those damn premiun….DAMN SHAME!!!

People still paying mortage, but don’t have the house to live in….DAMN SHAME!!!

Then he turns around flies to NO, rents a boat, and singlehandedly plucks Kartrina survivors out of the flood waters, with no regard to the toxins and diseases floating in the muck and mire.
Yeah, some might say that because he brought a camera crew it seemed self-serving, but I believe he wanted to chronicle what he saw as an injustice to the people of NO (the man has serious hate for Bush and his policies).

I am with you on that! I am from Mississippi, and it’s like we didnt suffer through a hurricane! We lost a whole lot here! We suffered just like N.O. did! I agree it was just that the media didnt cover MS like they did N.O. There are still people living in FEMA trailers! There is still neighborhoods that have destructed homes! There are still people that are mourning the friends and relatives that theyve lost. There are still people that cant come back home because they have nothing! My heart goes out to everyone that went through this tragic storm. I just wish that people will just stop only mentioning N.O.

as far as the cameras, it’s no different than anyone else who went there to help and brought a camera to show all of us removed from NO how bad it really was and how much really wasn’t being done. I mean nothing says “what the hell?” like seeing a family of 4 wading through murking water past a dead body and knowing that this isn’t suppose to be a 3rd world country without resources. The delay in how help was dispersed was unbelievably horrific.

I doubt anyone who’s rebuildt there will ever get flood insurance, most of Florida isn’t flood covered. My parents got dropped from Allstate after Andrew and we barely got touched by it. The world rotates on money, everything else follows.

I think my sarcastic statement about Mississippi receiving more financial aid than Louisiana was a bit out of step. I was basing it on an article I read on a political blog I was reading wherein it was suggested that Bush gave more aid to Mississippi because there were more registered Republicans in that state.

I don’t even know what to say about this anymore…I really wish I could help out physically because I don’t know who to trust financially because of all the bullsh*t goin on. The only reason I’m unable to help out physically is because I have my family to take care of including a new born, but I always said if I didn’t have these things in my life I would have def put my all into helping out any way I could because I put myself in there shoes especially as a black women and would expect my own people to do more than they are even though that is not fully our responsibility. Now I just pray for my people STILL living in these damn FEMA trailers that were only made to live in for a few weeks and also pray that something comes along that allows me not to feel so helpless cause this is not a good feeling.

I watched Oprah yesterday and just really found out about how bad the crime is there and it is so sad, they say everything was going fine until the “thugs” and drugdealers came back. For the population to be so small the killing toll there is the highest in America (someone please correct me if I’m wrong). I want to know why? [[FROM NEW ORLEANS]]YEAH MY NEIGHBOR HOOD WAS NICE AND QUIET UNTIL THE THUGS CAME BACK AND THEN THEY HAD A CRACK HOUSE ABOUT 3 HOUSES DOWN, AN ELDERLY LADY OWNED THAT HOUSE AND SHE LIKE NEVER CAME BACK…SO THEY HAD BROKE INTO IT AND TURNED IT INTO A CRACK HOUSE, IT WAS ROUND THE TIME OF JULY 2006–AND I WAS 16 AND I WAS CHILLEN IN THE FEMA TRAILER AND HEARD A GUNSHOT THAT I IGNORED CAUSE I THOUGHT IT WAS PROBABLY THOSE CRAZY DUDES JUST SHOOTING THE GUN IN THE AIR CAUSE IT WAS LIKE THE 4TH OF JULY..UNTIL I LATER ON HEARD THE COPS AND SEEN THE FLASHING LIGHTS, SOMEBODY KILLED A DUDE THREE HOUSES DOWN FROM ME ACROSS THE STREET, SHOT HIM IN THE HEAD AS HE WAS SITTING IN HIS CAR.[[I KNOW THIS BECAUSE ONE OF THE WITNESSES TOLD ME]] BUT I HAD WENT OUTSIDE THOUGH==IT WAS AROUND 2:00 am–I KNOW I SHOULDNT HAVE LEFT THE TRAILER BUT I DID.]]…ALL OF SUDDEN THE DUDE WHO GOT SHOT GIRLFRIEND AND OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS CAME AND SHE WAS CRYING AND SCREAMING, I NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THAT BEFORE IN MY LIFE–I JUST WISH OUR CRIME RATING WOULD GO DOWN…IM SERIOUSLY TIRED OF IT…SOMETIMES I BE THINKING LIKE–MAYBE WE SHOULD MOVE, BUT THEN AGAIN I LOVE MY CITY AND ITS HARD TO LEAVE
