Janelle Monáe – Violet Stars Happy Hunting!
This week, Janelle Monáe releases the first suite of the epic story, Metropolis, her debut album, titled The Chase. Metropolis is a concept album, a futuristic take on 1927′s silent film, Metropolis, by Fritz Lang. Monáe, who has worked with on the acclaimed Idlewild album from OutKast, as well as Big Boi’s Got Purp, Vol. 2, has taken a new approach to releasing her album, in the form of suites. The Wondaland Arts Society will release a suite every three months, and a full length LP after each suite is released. The material from her debut is exciting and very high-energy, and is definitely a breath of fresh air. The album will available in select stores, in the official store and on iTunes.
Make sure you log on to the official store and order your copy of Metropolis, due out Friday, August 24 and log on to her MySpace for more releases and upcoming events.
1st cmnt!!! she’s sooo tight!!!! that picture is crazzzy!!
Im scared.
oh wow!
I saw you rockin this on your myspace brian for a while ^^
the remix though, wich i also prefer
i’m not even into this type of music but i like it
I love Janelle Monae. I think that her style is inventive, and her voice is soo beautiful. I like her because she is a break from the ordinary, and her album art is hot too…..
Mere words cannot describe what I just heard….
All I could do was laugh.
This is the Music Young People are listening to ???
Too wierd for the kid…smh
I agree with #6. She is VERY different, but her voice and her music is kinda addictive! I dig this song on some different sh**!
Can we please have real singers back?
Wow different
Don’t Likey
Ms. Monae just won herself a new fan. After that Omarion and Bow Wow bullshit I started listening to this song with pretty low standards. I was pretty amazed though. Not only does it not sound like anything else I’ve been hearing recently (in a very good way) but if the rest of her material sounds like this, I can see her doin big things. Can’t wait to hear more from her…
Wow she’s from Atlanta? i thought she was from england or something like that
7 & 10
I can understand where you are coming from, but maybe you should check her out on some of her more contemporary cuts, like the El Debarge cover that she did on Big Boi’s Got Purp? It’s called “Time Will Reveal”.
Bjork did it way better thanks.
Not Feeling this AT ALL! voice is pretty but it seems as if she’s trying to be the Female Andre 3000 at least that’s what I get from it.
I really like this song. Its fresh and I like the fact that its something different but not trying so hard to be different. Its still has a very contemporary sound to it. If the rest of the album continues to sound like this song I think it could be a contender for a Grammy.
I LIKE NICE TUNE,,,,
The song is alright but not enough to make me buy her album. It also sounds like the music from the singer Res and I already have her album so I’m good!
I LOVE her. SO not the norm!!!
#1 FAN!!! I’m definitely making my mom take me to go get the album!!
This will be different no doubt. Its time for some new ish.
I love me some Janelle Monae…that girl is just raw for no reason lol…make you wanna THINK about slapping yo mama, re-think it when you see the look ya mama is giving you when she sees your raised hand, and then slap her anyways cuz the music is worth the beat down lol!
Ummm…yeah, I usually like non-mainstream and contemporary artists but I thinks she’s trying toooo hard to be different. I am the biggest supporter of “different” and underground music but her style seems forced, almost like this is a major gimmick. Her voice isn’t bad, I’d have to hear more before I go cop the whole CD.
ROTFL @ 24….funny funny.
Fresh and creative.
already bought the single early this summer….she’s a genius. if record labels can promote amy winehouse or lilly allen music then why can’t they promote janelle????
why do all black female singers have to follow the same formula????
its catchy in an adams family way but I tried it and it really isn’t my cup of tea
not feeling it too much
I’m starting to catch on to it the more I listen.
She’s a good singer, but I’m always kinda skeptical about these “alternative” artists. Sometimes it can come across a bit contrived…I would like to hear more of her stuff though.
I agree #25.
I like quirkiness. Which is why I’m a big Kelis fan.
But I DO dig this song. I hafta hear more from her.
ok that shit is scary azz hell I’m talkin about the pic and song was iight
Its not too DIFFERENT thats its just WEIRD. plus I like her cuz she wears her hair the way I do
Is this real, from here heart, or just something slapped together to be made to sound like Kelis?
ITS TOO MUCH FOR MY TASTE, IM NOT REALLY INTO HER NO WAY, BUT I WISH HER MUCH SUCCESS
I love it it something different Better than the music on the radio for me so i am def gonna find them
I been ON Janelle Monae for a min…I love her sound, shes very different..and doesnt aim to look like all young Black female artist that are mainstream
I hate her music! Blah blah blah, not good! That may sound a little childish of me but I just don’t like her image or music. Too MUCH!
Um, didn’t anyone notice that Jamrock’s face and neck are 2 different colors? Ease up on the Fashion Fair, ma!
It sounds very musical-esque, not really the type of stuff I’d sit down and jam to… but I like that she is taking a different approach. I’d probably check her album out though. Much success to her.
i love violet stars happy hunting i love her whole style it’s so refreshing…i most def have to get her cd
I agree her voice is nice but that song is a little WEIRD
YEAH, I LIKED IT WHEN BJORK DID IT 10 YEARS AGO…
NOT NECCESSARILY THE VOCALS BUT ART CONCEPT AND MUSICAL DIRECTION HAS MOST DEF. BEEN DONE BEFORE.
It desperately needs a video. Kind of like Outkast’s Hey Ya. It could be a hit.
Is it me, or didn’t I hear something from my childhood?
“1,2,3, fo, fiiive, 6,7,8,nay, teeen,11,12?
Exactly what do I need to drink or smoke to like this?
# 16 I CO-SIGN THAT, IT WAS A’IGHT BUT I GOTTA HEAR MORE FROM HER TO SEE IF SHE GOT HER OWN SOUND.
I like it, like ten seconds into the song I was moving. The whole sound of the song is hot to me. I might have to get her album, I need to hear more though before I make my decision.
I think you need to be on X to understand this song…lol.
But other than that, I had a compliation of Janelle’s older songs that I really liked so I guess I’m just gonna have to wait for the next single to come out to be judgemental.
This is Song is HOT!
Finally, its always nice to see a young black women doing something a lil different.
i liked it.
but im low-key scared.
lol
@ KMNILES # 45 it’s 1,2,3,FOUR not fo, 5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12…and yes you did hear the counting of numbers from sesamestreet. Moving on this song is mediocre at best..the beat is ok..and her voice is nice..but those damn gay guys in the background have got to go! Other than that, I give it a 5/1/2 on a scale of 1-10. Besides I have never heard of this chick anyway..so I need to see more from her.
This is hot! Brian you finally did something right for a change.
LOL@ jewel and Bill good one!
ok…… i phucking looooooooove this song. It’s weird. It’s different. It’s refreshing. It’s completely crazy.
I PHUCKING LOVE IT!
CONCRETE YOU NEED TO KEEP BREAKING NEW ISH’ LIKE THIS EVERY ONCE IN AWHILE!!!
I don’t even know who this chick is, never heard of her. I love that pic the song, however, I can do without. Peace
@ LUCA
Can’t believe Bjork got a shout! Loves me some.
Oh snap, I just figured out who she is. She’s the chick that worked with Outkast on their last album, right? I’m still not feeling it.
I actually like janelle song and voice. Although I do think at times on her myspace bulletins she goes overboard with this outerspace/1950′s stuff. Other than that her voice, talent, and enthusiasm alone she could possibly be a female Andre 300 mixed with Lauryn Hill if she gets into some neo-soul.
