Janelle Monáe – Violet Stars Happy Hunting!

This week, Janelle Monáe releases the first suite of the epic story, Metropolis, her debut album, titled The Chase. Metropolis is a concept album, a futuristic take on 1927′s silent film, Metropolis, by Fritz Lang. Monáe, who has worked with on the acclaimed Idlewild album from OutKast, as well as Big Boi’s Got Purp, Vol. 2, has taken a new approach to releasing her album, in the form of suites. The Wondaland Arts Society will release a suite every three months, and a full length LP after each suite is released. The material from her debut is exciting and very high-energy, and is definitely a breath of fresh air. The album will available in select stores, in the official store and on iTunes.

Make sure you log on to the official store and order your copy of Metropolis, due out Friday, August 24 and log on to her MySpace for more releases and upcoming events.

I love her she is the hottest thing right now.

  2. I’m not really into this type of sound. I wish her the best though.

  3. wow….this is definitely some left field type shit. It’s strangely interesting and I kind of like it.

  4. flash

why does that picture remind me so much of kelis, especially from her video “get along with you”

  5. Staci

She has a nice voice but I don’t get the concept, mabye it’s to out there for me.

  6. Jamila

    Anything creative. I can respect.

  7. I dont know about the song, sounds abit contrived…BUT her voice is definetly whats up. Plus if Gwen, Nelly, and Fergie can sing about retarted stuff then so can she!

Oh and here is Ciara’s official cant leave em alone remix.

Its aight, sounds like a early 90′s song or something, and she added some add libs
And atleast 50 aint in it.

She’s dope & her voice is really beatiful. But she’s gonna have a heard time breaking into “urban”. Hopefully, she can do what Kelis did and develop a strong Euro base and then slowly break into urban.

She’s too talented to go unnoticed though.

  9. It’s different. I want to hear more.

I liked the song she did last year (it was posted on CL), can’t remember the title.

  10. one tree hill

    I’m……….um….kinda….speechless.

  11. SUGARBRYCHES

I LIKE ALL TYPES OF MUSIC BUT AINT NO WAY IM CONVINCED THAT THIS ISHT IS GONNA BE HOT FIRE…LOL

  12. Krazy K from DUVAL

KELIS IS THE SH!T. SHE’S HOT, FRESH, AND DARING.
I LIKE JANELLE MONAE BECUZ SHE’S DIFFERENT. BUT KELIS WAS THE FIRST SISTER WITH THE OUTER SPACE SH!T (“MARS”, “SHOOTING STARS”, “TRIOLOGY” , ETC. ) THE CYPERHOP REMIX IS BETTER THOUGH. AND YEAH HER GOT PURP SONGS ARE STRAIGHT TOO.

  13. LikeThatYall

Cool. For once something different and fresh in this industry.

lol @ 45 … I thought I was the only one who caught that.

I’ve been a fan since “Letting Go”. I love. love, LOVE her voice as much as this one, too.

  16. Uh-Boom-Boom-Kat

Does anyone else wanna watch Jem! now?

  17. Bill

I like her hair better when its in the fro but her voice is special. I hope she avoids the Lauryn Hill/Badu syndrome and doesn’t lose her mind.

  18. ms. complexity

I am a fan of alternative r’n'b (remember Kelis’ first release?) but this does NOT do it for me. She’s trying to be all things to all people without being a Cassie or Yucky Yaki Beyonce.
I admire her drive but won’t be picking this up (or even downloading) anytime soon.

  19. QUAN

i love her style. this song is wild. if you like this style of music, you’ll like this artist named res. she’s very different too. but this woman here is amazing. she’s like an female andre 3000….and i love me some outkast…church…..

  20. BigDaddyReg

    # 10 and what singers are you talking about??? Beyonce, Nicole (whats the hell. who cares about her name) Mya, please, Ciara, she has 50 following her, so her career is doomed, it seems that real singers ae in short supply. I think she reminds me of 3000, his style is so different and people took a little time to get use to it, but great music either way, but #10 you live in a free country and you thoughts are yours and respected. sorry if i came across hard.

  21. This sounds like that wierd off the wall shit (album having a futuristic theme) like songs that Bjork has done. I love Bjork’s randomness so this chick might be worth checking out. I have to hear other songs from her first.

  22. gypsy rose lee

she is talented and adorable. i went looking for pics and videos of her and found this animation on youtube:

too perfect! can’t wait until she blows the eff up!!!

  23. Young Yuaaahh

Wow… I youtubed her and found this video. She is the shit! They cut her mic off and she keeps singing! http://youtube.com/watch?v=sn5gppUyXSc

  24. this song is actually pretty good!!

  25. fhh

her music is creative and inventive. sounds better than 90% of the cookie cutter R&Bish songs on the radio now. Too bad she prolly won’t sell well though, to many people still caught up in the matrix of black radio.

  26. Solae

janelle monae IS the shit! Al cyberdogs or whatever she calls them, lets unite!

  27. Ericka

I love Janelle Monae she is the best her music is different and that’s why I like it she has so much energy and everything she does just seems so real you can tell she loves what she does and she has fun with it already bought the album can’t wait for the next one and the next one after that!

  28. Baby Daniel Jolie Pitt

Yo this is FIYAH! I love the whole concept album idea of basically telling a tale through different chapters and songs. This particular song is so hot to me though. I have been listening to this track back to back. Get into it!

  29. thecomplexmale

this song is very different…i like more of her stuff from idlewild and the song she did with the jaspects called “peach street blues”…she has an amazing voice and i would much rather here her sing stuff more along those lines.

Well to the ones who are like, “She’s weird; this is wat kids listen to these days?” Yes it is wat we listen to. why? because we’ve obviously evolved from th 1960′s, 70′s, 80′s, & 90′s. We’re in a new era and to me Janelle Monae is introducing that new era to the world. Her voice is beautiful, her image is different from other typical artists now-a-days. Also to # 35, you can tell this music is completely Janell’s style and from the heart; way more so than the noise Kelis makes. OPEN YA MINDS PEOPLE. TIMES ARE CHANGING!

  31. Paris

I think that Janelle Monae will change the world of music. This is the first song/single in her conquest to do so….

  32. Sammie

I cannot get enough of this…..why why why do we have to wait so long for the next part….I NEED IT NOW!!!
Her range and talents get better and better every time I listen to it.

    Janelle ROCKS FACT!!!!!!!!!!

  33. Alicia

I like it. There is also a song by her called YOU that song is gonna kill the R&B charts when it’s released I like the fact that she is different and not conforming.. SHE HAS A FAN IN ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  34. Adrienne

So, she works with Big Boi? Hmm I guess that explains why she sounds like the female carbon copy of Andre 3000. DOn’t believe me, check out Andre 3000′s cartoon soundtrack. I still like the song tho. Lol, maybe because I like Andre 3000 and his soundtrack…

  35. Ovadose

I think this will be one of the artists that either does very well commercialy (meaning they’ll Brand the crap out of her because she’s cute and different) or we won’t see at all in 3 three years. Let’s be honest she doesn’t have a great voice, it’s ok to say the least, it’s not that different than most singers on a stage show in college. The style is basically Andre 5000 from outkast put in a girl. True she says some outspoken statements to match her over the top character, but that doesn’t make it original. I’m not sure if people are just so use to seeing what we think is normal on tv so when an artists steps onto it that they find unique for one second they start calling them ORIGINALS, this girls is not an original, she’s a make up of several strong factors in the entertainment industry, Grace Jones, Andre 5000, and James Brown’s dancing (not by any means her singing) still vocally she doesn’t compare to any great singers, and thats just being honest.
