KANYE ON HIS CLOTHING LINE, Pastelle
COMPLEX: Talk to me about your clothing line, Pastelle. We’ve had countless conversations about it, you’ve talked about your aspiration to get in this industry and be taken seriously. What’s going on with Pastelle today, why is it taking so long?
KanYe West: Just getting the right designs. It’s a gift and a curse. You’ve got all eyes on you, so if you deliver something great, it’s gonna get held as, “Oh, it’s supposed to be great.” And even if it’s good or it’s OK or something, it’s gonna get bashed. There were phases where I could just do the bear on a Polo and it would’ve made $100 million. At a certain point. But I always say I was a designer before I was a rapper, and I really wanted to get into design. So then, trying to start designing and goin’ with my girl down to the fashion district and stuff, and looking at fabrics and stuff like that, I’m like, “Oh, shit. This is real.” I’ve learned so much about materials and fabrics and applications and sequence and shiny fabrics and fits and all type of shit. [ READ MORE ]
CASSIE ON THE HURTFUL THINGS PEOPLE SAID
COMPLEX: What’s the most hurtful thing that was said?
CASSIE: That I slept my way into the industry. I think that’s really vicious. If it had nothing to do with talent, at least it had something to do with charm. But it was never jumping into bed with somebody. That’s just gross. As far as people saying I couldn’t sing, I did a bad job so I couldn’t hate. I was in a tough place for a second. I got really sick and was in the hospital in like November or December. It was stress and exhaustion, and I ended up going home to Connecticut. [Puffy] actually called me up when I was at home and asked me what I wanted to do. I was like, “I want to do another album.”

My thing is this I know a few girls trying to make it in the business..who’s the total package. They can’t even get a shot, because they didn’t sleep with producers we all know. Then here comes Cassie, though cute and probably a good print model comes along…with no real singing ability and she gets a record deal….How??? This is all I want to know.

I’ve come to the conclusion that they’re a three possible ways of breaking into the industry on a national scale.
1. Bloodline: A person is directly connected to a million dollar name. Parents, uncle, aunt, grandmother, sister, brother, yadda yadda. It’s easier to put something out, saying that they are so and so’s daughter, versus putting out a “nobody”.
2. Money: Artists who don’t fall into that first category are usually already doing well on their own without the help of a label. Indie artists who have already generated a substantial amount of funds and mass appeal, will most likely get a deal because that’s less work and project funding for a label.
3. Sex: Good looking women can get far on their pussy. Then they can flip the money earned from fucking moguls, producers and anyone important, into more cash. That’s where scenario number two comes in. Now that they have the money and the exposure, they can get in.
None of these artists out here are getting plucked off the street. There’s too many people to do that. If you can’t do something for a label or person, there’s nothing they can do for you. And that goes for every branch of entertainment. Do research on an artists and you’ll find that one of the three options above will apply.

Cassie you aint fooling nobody. No one should feel sorry for this girl because she knows she’s not talented and is using sex to sell. That song Me & U had a nice beat, thanks to Ryan, but the lyrics were so nasty. She’s one of them innocent hos. The type of girl who looks sweet and innocent but sleeps around and is easy to get in bed. I do think that Cassie slept with Diddy because shit does not add up.
He yelled at all them girls from DK for not hitting the right note and Cassie can’t hit any notes whatsoever. He even said there’s so many untalented people in the industry and some succeed because of a new hair do. Cassie’s voice is an absolute joke. She’s seriously talking and she shouldn’t even be given the opportunity to put out another CD. Diddy knows that and that is why he bought half (50,000) of her album sales the first week.
Say what you want about Kanye….yeah he is cocky but he knows that. I think he is just his biggest support system because the industry can be really hard on ppl. I think he is honest about his qualities and accomplishments and also his imperfections. I think he is a dope producer, one of the best of this generation and he has a fly sense of style. I also know that when his album drops, I will be buying 2 copies to support him cause I know its gonna be hot!!!
She didn’t have to do a cover like that but she is hot…………….Cassie is another girl that can sing just not well…….at all….i’m not rooting or saying she shouldn’t make another album though but I didn’t buy the first and prolly wouldn’t cop the 2nd. I don’t think she slept her way into the industry because I mean she was a model and people love to use that on women but I don’t doubt she had a lil’ thing with Diddy.

I hope that Kanye has much success in the future with his clothing line. I really think that he has an art and design mind. Therefore I’m sure his clothing will be nice, plus he is surrounded by other people in the field. PLEASE KANYE make sure your clothing is of QUALITY. Some celebrities clothing lines are not worth the price with the poor quality in fabric and manufacturing of their brands. The name hmmm I need to hear it, I’m guessing it’s French. I suppose it’s alright if the name fits the style of clothing he’s selling.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Cassie interview. It was candid and I think she was real. Although her live performances weren’t up to par, her album was solid and I believe she captured the attention of the audience she was trying to reach. She knows people are watching her closely so hopefully she does better this time around. I wish her luck.
