Alrighty then @ this post. I mean whatever.
Beyonce looks beautiful. Happy she doing her THING.
Tina looks like well Tina. As long as she happy, I think thats all that matters.
Diddy is diddy.
Hi LL Cool J.
Russell is Russell.
I dont understand why some of you get so pent up about what other choose to do with their careers. I mean if Beyonce decides to do acting/singing/songwriting/clothingline etc… Why should it matter. Yall aint the ones spending money on her stuff, so why do it matter really. And who said Beyonce doesnt donate, because she does, its just the positive things Beyonce does, doesnt get posted. So how would any of you know what she decides to do on her free time.
By the way, Im not a big fan but I smell jealousy.

@60
You’re missing the point. I’m not saying people can’t do it, but IF they do let it be something they REALLY wanted to do and not solely for profit. Of course people want to make money and in business making money=success, but ambition and drive doesn’t always have to be money driven, as so many of you keep focusing on. Everything isn’t about me, me, me and recieving, but with so many greedy, money hungry people who only see “Green” I see why the concept of giving time as well as money sometimes flies over people’s head.

@ kmniles,
I hate to be a d**k-rider but everything you’re saying is so on point today. I agree 100%!!!!
People are so caught up in individual wealth these days. But that’s cool because it will all come to pass. The mortgage and banking industry is a perfect example of where we’re headed with this Get Money, Take Money, Me, Me, Me mentality (this will probably also go over a lot of people’s head). People are too foolish to realize what’s in front of their eyes. But it’s all good. Keep thinking that rocking the freshest gear and wearing a $500 outfit that cost $5 to make is the business.
@65 - It’s funny because the first eight words of your statement is the crux of the problem. lol. Everyone is so concerned with themselves that no one gives a damn about anyone else or anything else. But that too shall come to pass. And no one said having money was a bad thing so you might need to try to see things more clearly as well.

Geez, what is with all of the harsh words? We can’t get our opinions across without using that type of language?
To chime in on the debate regarding an artist “doing more than one thing,” I feel it is only smart business. Any CEO, business class teacher, or financial advisor would recommend that one DIVERSIFIES THEIR INCOME. Creating multiple income streams by promoting themselves as a brand is a no-brainer for singers in an industry where record sales are on a massive decline. One could make a valid argument that the level of quality on some of these ventures is not up to par but there is always room for improvement. Why should it bother us that our black stars are marketing themselves in such ways? The Olson twins, NKOTB, and so many white acts have been doing the same for decades. By definition, these tactics could be described as pimping but so could so many other business situations (churches, healthcare, insurance, etc.) Finally, I would like to reiterate what was mentioned earlier about charitable actions by artist being the last thing the media reports. Beyonce has paid for student’s tuition, held food drives (and I’m sure NO ONE is skimming a can of peas off the top), opened community centers and provided opportunities for youth. Majority of the time, the masses don’t know what the stars are doing for others. We wont get into the awesome work Oprah has done for our people as well as the world on the whole. Most importantly, the larger one’s porfolio is, the larger and more significant their donations will be.

that’s a real good look - all these folks making moves, we should be proud that not only have people paved the way for us to be successful, but that we are getting in there and do it - why not? if only people would put this much emphasis on voting and education, etc…

@ Summer, I see your point and I agree completely about diversification. Financial literacy and security is a personal passion of mine. But I don’t think people get the point of what was being said originally by kmilnes. It’s not that a Black person should’t branch out or be mulit-faceted. The issue for me is VALUE and WORTH. It’s seems like some celebs will put their name on any product for the hell of it. If it gets them paid - regardless of what it it — they’re all over it. For example, who the hell told Puffy he could rap?? There’s almost no quality or long-term benefit to anything these days and that’s scary. And FYI, churches, insurance companies, universities and hospitals are the biggest industry of pimps. But that doesn’t make it right.
I see what you’re saying about what white celebs have done but who made them the example to follow anyway? The Olsen twins got at all that money and can’t even form two complete sentences. And they don’t fu**ing eat!!!!!!!!!!!!! What the hell do they do with all that money????
Yes, Puffy and them can do whatever the hell they want. It’s their money. They earned it (not off me thankfully) and that’s fine. I’m just wondering why it always seems like they always pump out the same recycled crap.

Where I think you’re misguided at is that the consumer has the power. If the consumer is not satisfied with the product (in this case entertainers), they have the right and responsiblity to change their mind and place their money somewhere else. There is quality music out there, however its still on the shelves. Therefore people must not be as disatisfied as you are. Frankly, I believe that this issue isn’t that deep with you. If this was YOUR favorite artist involved, you probably wouldn’t have as much of a problem.
Artists have NO responsibility to you.

#93, if it was my favorite artist up in here I’d be a little shocked considering that the artists I like the most seem more selective with their choices in venue, business deals, etc. But I would still have a problem with it. I don’t have special rules for special people. if it applies, it applies.
As for the consumers having choices, that’s a given. I wasn’t trying to suggest what people should or shouldn’t “consume.” I was suggesting that mass consumption of garbage ends up coming out like smelly shit.

MS_MAC and KMNILES are the only ones speaking the truth. Some of these celebs are stretching themselves way too thin, especially with all these clothing/shoe/perfume lines. Why spend time promoting your clothing line when you can devote that time to making good music? Plus, half of these stars (with exception to Diddy), don’t know jack s*** about fashion… and their shi**y fashion lines are a manifestation of their stupidty (yes, I am talking about Tacky Tina and Miss B).
I know some immature teenager is going to call me a “hater,” and if expressing my opinions makes me a “hater,” then I guess I’m a hater…all day everyday. The number of people who go broke supporting this tomfoolery amazes me. Yeah, B may be stacking her paper, but she’s stacking it with your cash, not mine. I’d rather invest my money in something more fruitful…like an education.

I agree with you #102. A lot of celebrities involve themselves in entertainment so much, that they lack getting an education- that can take them even further in life. All this cosmetics, perfume, clothing, shoes and water brands tells me one thing about people who already have tons of money- that they are not really happy with their lives. You hardly ever see Tina take pictures with her husband anymore and same with her daughter. Diddy is always making bands to promote himself, brags about banging women and making babies. The aging hip hopster Russell, who’s helped lots of people in hip hop has proved his point as a mogul, and needs to sit down somewhere and relax. Do these people ever take a break- or do they fear one day they’ll lose everything? Get a grip!!!

Whatever happened to doing something simply because you love it though? I mean, I know it’s important to make money but people in the entertainment industry usually have a specific talent that they are passionate about and love to express. I’m saying…I doubt you’d really try to be a singer or actress or fashion designer if it was something you really didn’t love. These people are so rich that it’s unnecessary to branch out and do other things simply because you want to make more money. I feel like if you’re as successful an entertainer as Beyonce then it’s unnecessary to try to act and design clothes, two things that I think Beyonce made a mistake in going after. Do what you love and do it well. Don’t make an ass out of yourself doing something you know you have no business doing just to be greedy.

That’s the way of the world today. Offer a person choices (no matter how dumb) and make money then counter the guilt by telling yourself it’s their fault, lol. Reminds me of your comment about “pimps and pushers”.
Did you see the movie Super Size Me? Prime example and if you didn’t see it it’s hilarious.
Glad you see where I’m coming from.

I agree with you 109. Some people are simply greedy. I liked some of Tina’s fashions, but I used to work for Sears and some of her stuff are just like what Sears had almost 20 years ago. When people become “overexposed”, eventually the public will turn on them and get tired of them. Celebrities are like fads, today you’re in, tommorow you’re out and replaced by someone else.

BTW, I think Sean John is the most legitimate celebrity clothing line out there, followed by Phat Farm/Baby Phat and then Rocawear. Dereon is on the come-up, I’ve seen more people wearing it since they put out the Dereon (vs. House of Dereon) collection.
