M.I.A.’S KALA

M.I.A. – Boyz

M.I.A. is back with her second album, Kala which hits stores on August 21. Her first album, Arular was a huge success in the United States and garnered her a lot of endorsements using a couple of her songs. I was actually surprised by how well she was recieved. Producing and writing all of her own music, people just took a liking to her. However, with all of this success, people were wondering what M.I.A.’s sophomore set was going to sound like.

She actually worked with a few American producers this time around, such as Bangladesh (who produced the hit “Bossy” for Kelis), and Timbaland. She still used some of her own production, and it seems that her album varies in sound a lot more than Arular did, but sticks to the same format. I will admit that Kala is a little shotty and has some holes in it. I definitely saw where she was going, and with that being said, the album has some stand-out, fun tracks.

  1. M.I.A. iz baq!! YESSS!! i luved that song she last came out wit & tha one she did wit missy on her cookbook cd!! she’s real cool. i can’t wait for her first single to hit tha radio stations!!

  2. What Happened To Paper Planes??!!!

  3. For someone who traveled/lived around the world, this is alright. And I’m open to all music. Her music is aight and I’m not close-minded at all.Simply, I just don’t understand what she is saying.Just because someone don’t like it don’t mean its bad, or they sit and accept what is only on BET, its just people had difference of opinion on what “they” like.Don’t make generalizations unless you for sure. Most of the audience that do watch BET is not just black people.Theres different people of many colors that probably pass on this doesn’t make them close-minded.

  4. whats so funny is people cant hate her shes electronice muziq…. she has an accent shes sri lankan/,londond bred…boyz is cool…. but i love XR2 thats my shit

  5. i love m.i.a shes hot !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. I agree with some of you all. Disliking M.I.A. does not have to equate to being close minded. However, yall know dang well half the mess they play on the radio and t.v. that gets called hip hop is barely coherent….audible at best. You can groove to ay bay bay all day, but when a chick from the U.K. with a Sri Lankan background get dismissed cuz you cant understand her….since when has that stop mofos fmo rockin and popin their hips. I admit it took me a few listens to get her but like most hip hop, it takes more than 1, 2…hell even 5 listens to appreciate a track. Everytime I listen to Arular and now Kala I hear something fresh and thaz the beauty of a good artist. Folks open your minds the world doesnt just consist of r&b/hip-hop/pop get some culture geesh lol….

  7. i am trying like really really really really really hard to like her.. like really, but damn i just can’t get with it.. and i listen to some pretty strange ass music that’ll have you sayin “WTF?!”.. maybe it’s her voice.. idunno man.

  8. Cant wait until the 21st! M.I.A is my girl. Saw her perform live @ central park summerstage a couple years back, shes the greatest. I wasnt really feeling birdflu, but Boyz is my jam!

  9. This chick is on fire, I love her sound. It has a Carribbean, African feel. New and different. Hmm I think I will be picking this up.

  15. vinci

    Hey Brian,

Can you reupload the files again? They expired and I would love, love to hear them.

  16. LikeThatYall

This chicks is amazing. She’s on a completely different level to most of the other artists who talk about social issues. M.I.A. doesn’t come across as preachy in the slightest, despite seeing first hand the atrocities going on during the civil war in Sri Lanka. She grew up in London and was exposed a lot of different musical sounds. She’s also a visual artist.

  17. Nonsence

M.I.A Is one of the wackiest musicians out there – her style is one of a kind and im telling u michael jacksin didnt make fortunes by acting normal – i love her -1-

  18. aulelia

likethatyall put the words perfectly. this girl has her own style and i just need to add hers is a mish-mash but distinctly british in how it is unique. some of the british hip hop and grime is really incredible but never given any shine…it’s shame cos London is where it is @!

  19. del del

I like Hussel with Afrikan Boy

  20. Cuauhtemoc

I don’t always understand what M.I.A. is saying, but trying to figure it out is the fun part.

I love M.I.A. because she makes it cool to be “third world”. She’s not all about flossing and making people feel bad for not having money.

#38, DCTRINI, I’m gay like you, and I agree that her music should be played at Gay Pride.

  21. Moongrl

She is wicked! Big ups for reppin the Third World, JA and the rest! My fav songs are Bamboo BANGER, Jimmy and Paper Airplanes!!

  22. Candice

M.I.A. is one of the most unique artists out there..She hails from Sri Lanka all the way to London…and her music has no catagory..I have been a fan of hers since Galang…and her new song “Boys”..is crazy….and I’m not even from London…I’m from new york city..

  23. Candice

I have response to #15…So you don’t know who anyone is unless they come on BET…Honey that is very very sad…If your mind is that narrow..then you are probably a waste of space

  24. hillzy the best beat maker i love u

WHO THA HECK IS HER? she got a lil moustache too

I knew the name but never knew what she does or who she is
I better be on here too

  25. standupguy

i refuse to support this on the grounds of how Asian people are in the U.K ,they are racist especially when it comes to interracial dating.Oh and now they want to use our culture to make music ,i’m sorry i can’t support this unless she gets a black boyfriend and proves she’s different from the others. But from my experience they all the same it’s not they fault that’s the way they’re raised,

  26. Geyonce

M.I.A. is dope! Dont want her to go mainstream!!!! Enjoy tha music way too much!

  27. Geyonce
