M.I.A. - Boyz
M.I.A. is back with her second album, Kala which hits stores on August 21. Her first album, Arular was a huge success in the United States and garnered her a lot of endorsements using a couple of her songs. I was actually surprised by how well she was recieved. Producing and writing all of her own music, people just took a liking to her. However, with all of this success, people were wondering what M.I.A.’s sophomore set was going to sound like.
She actually worked with a few American producers this time around, such as Bangladesh (who produced the hit “Bossy” for Kelis), and Timbaland. She still used some of her own production, and it seems that her album varies in sound a lot more than Arular did, but sticks to the same format. I will admit that Kala is a little shotty and has some holes in it. I definitely saw where she was going, and with that being said, the album has some stand-out, fun tracks.

This chicks is amazing. She’s on a completely different level to most of the other artists who talk about social issues. M.I.A. doesn’t come across as preachy in the slightest, despite seeing first hand the atrocities going on during the civil war in Sri Lanka. She grew up in London and was exposed a lot of different musical sounds. She’s also a visual artist.

likethatyall put the words perfectly. this girl has her own style and i just need to add hers is a mish-mash but distinctly british in how it is unique. some of the british hip hop and grime is really incredible but never given any shine…it’s shame cos London is where it is @!

I don’t always understand what M.I.A. is saying, but trying to figure it out is the fun part.
I love M.I.A. because she makes it cool to be “third world”. She’s not all about flossing and making people feel bad for not having money.
#38, DCTRINI, I’m gay like you, and I agree that her music should be played at Gay Pride.

i refuse to support this on the grounds of how Asian people are in the U.K ,they are racist especially when it comes to interracial dating.Oh and now they want to use our culture to make music ,i’m sorry i can’t support this unless she gets a black boyfriend and proves she’s different from the others. But from my experience they all the same it’s not they fault that’s the way they’re raised,
