Shes beautiful to me. I loooove to see a sister rockin her own natural hair with such confidence. I like her music too, its refreshin to hear rnb with a twist..soo many artist feel they have to be the same or sing about the same stuff not willin to take chances and be fearless. To me this young lady is fearless and I wish her nothing but the best. Continue to shine my sister, and no matter what “THEY” say never change for no one.

  2. She is way too weird!!!!!! YUK!

  3. I C U BRIAN, U ALL GROWN UP NOW!!!!!!!, LOL, JANAE IS ONE STRANGE WOMAN……

  4. Trailblazer

All I can say is that I look forward to hearing her music. I’m just wondering what is up with all the hand poses like she trying to cast a spell or something. Is that a part of her theme/act? Just curious. You can only get but so much context from the pics. I guess I had to be there. LOL

  5. anyone that knows me, knows that I never dress up for anything. I don’t care what it is. I do not dress up.

Good Lawd!! I loooovvvee JOI and Janelle…Janelle is a BREATH of fresh air – -what this industry needs — her style is classic reminiscant of the Lil’ Richards….Temptations..back in the day – - its about time we get some class. Her natural hair is wonderful as well – - if her whole get up is contrived..who cares it DAMN looks good and NO ONE I mean NO ONE else is doing it…she has a signature look and when you see her you’ll know its her. People are so insecure and scared to be themselves that they hate on anyone else who has the balls to be an outkast and not be a part of a “trend” but start one by being an individual..keep shining Ms. Monae…I’ll be rooting for you…

  7. I know her by face and name but never heard one song by her….i’ll check her out. She looks a litle like Lauryn Hill…..glad all these people came through for her…..Joi looks 3 ft taller than her -_o.

  8. cocolicious

Her style is weird to me, I am not feelin it, never heard her songs either.

hold on dammit. Janelle monae is hot! ‘Violet Stars Happy Hunting’ (Cyberhop mix) is tight….and ‘Letting Go’ is a fresh song. She’s just on some other sh!t. She’s not singing about what other female artists are singing about. And her outfits are quirky. I like her personally. I SEE YOU BRIAN! YOU GO, BOY!

I need to buy her cd…the Letting Go track got my thru somethangs awhile ago and now I’m on her song “Party Girl”

“I know I should focus on my schoolwork, I shouldn’t feel the way I do (burt I do-ooo)”

    LOL…yea, daily anthem…

Anywho, her music is EXTREMELY refreshing and I adore her style! Hope she blows up big and ppl appreciate her individuality…

PS…DIDDY DOES LOOK LIKE BIG BOI , well, at least on this pic…its the teeth ppl, the teeth…damn veneers. (weird)

anyone that knows me, knows that I never dress up for anything. I don’t care what it is. I do not dress up.

    That’s tacky as hell :::smh::::

  14. they looked like they had fuuun!!!!!!!!!!!!!! her song was my profile song on myspace 4 a while!!!! DO THAT GIRL!

  15. #73, the difference is, I get away with it – and it works for me. I really don’t care what you think, because regardless of whether or not I’m dressed up (which I’m not), I always dressed appropriately, and I always have no problem getting into where I want and need to get into. thanks, though. I appreciate it.

Style wise – she reminds me of a more afro-punk version Andre 3000. But, I love originality! She ain’t bitin’ off of anyone musically. The album is addictive to listen to on the real.

Her myspace songs are off the chain too.

Black women artists are more diverse than Black men artists. Add Janae to the diverse list of musicians like Alicia, Mary, Beyonce, India.Arie, Erykah, Jill, Chrisette & Corinne Bailey.

The men are all Jockin’ Jay-Z or R. Kelly.
