A great man once said opinions are like a**holes…everyone’s got one. However, some people like to let their butt out for from time to time - take Polow Da Don.
Since the controversy surrounding his comments towards white women and black women, Polow Da Don has been under hell fire. Allhiphop linked up with the producer for his response to the feedback he received against his views and being dubbed the “King Of White Girls”:
AllHipHop.com: So do you stand by your statements?
Polow Da Don: Oh definitely. It has nothing to do with me, these effects. I didn’t make this stuff up. Only thing where people got misled is that I said I prefer a White woman, and that’s not the case at all. Really, I date all types of women. It was a stage in my life when I started dating a lot of White women- that was just a stage in my life. Right now, I date girls I like. I don’t base it off of any shade or color when I meet a girl now. They linked my comments about the Black family and Black women with the “King of the White Girls” and [the fact that] I dated White girls. That’s where it all went wrong. So when I was comparing Black women to White women, that has zero to do with me dating White women. What I was saying was factual though. Ladies and gentlemen agreed, n****s and b******s got mad.
Polow once again did not hold his tongue with his opinion in the interview. He went on to clarify himself saying this:
It’s not that I’m attacking Black women; Black women have done this to themselves. Well I’m not going to say that. They didn’t do it to themselves, but they are a part of the cycle, which means they’re not helping the situation by not looking at the problem. So let’s take White people out of it, and take any other race out of it. I used White women as a comparison because so many Black people get mad because I say that I’m the “King of the White Girls.” First of all, saying that I’m the “King of the White Girls,” how can you find that disrespectful as a Black woman? You are an idiot. If anything, I should have Klansmen feeling disrespected; I should have White women feeling disrespected as far as a Black man saying he’s the king of the White women. It’s not disrespectful to Black woman at all. If a white man says, “I’m the King of Black women,” would [Black women] be mad at the White man? Of course you would be, and so would Black men. You think a White woman would be mad at a White man saying, “I’m the king of Black women?” No, they won’t be mad. So I don’t understand how a Black woman can feel offended by me saying I’m the “King of the White Girls.” I didn’t come up with that. Like I said, a White man came up with that title for me. But, Black women do need to get their shit together, period, point blank. And if you’re in denial of that, you are part of the problem.

AllHipHop.com: So we discussed how some Black have not really learned to be men yet. Do you think that may be a reason why some Black women have a problem being submissive to that kind of man?
Polow Da Don: No. Women have been taught to not trust us. Women have run the household for so long, they’ve been taught to be independent. So when a man comes in and tries to run the household, they are kind of fighting for that spot, so to speak. There’s gonna be a little resistance before a woman just let’s it all go because they’ve seen their mothers be strong, and grandmothers be so strong, and they taught them to be the same way. So when you meet a guy you’re gonna challenge him. Take somebody like Oprah (Winfrey.) To me Oprah is a bad example. To me Oprah being titled as the most powerful Black woman in America, and she doesn’t have a man… To me that’s sending a bad signal to all young Black women. That’s saying the most powerful Black woman in America didn’t need a man. You telling me that’s a role model?

His statements in this interview are just as ignorant, if not even more. He says that black women are brought up not to trust their men. I DISAGREE because if you look at it, alot of black women are raising their children as single moms and dad is not around. The distrust most likely comes from a kid being raised and dad was never around, not because the black woman needs to “get it together”. What about the absentee father? He needs to stop pointing the blame on black woman, it just shows how lost he really is.
He says the Oprah is a bad example because she’s the most powerful black woman in the world and has no man. And that reason alone makes her a bad role model. Well, mr. Polow, if you think thats whats makes you a great role model–having a man by your side–instead of the millions of people she’s helped and lives she’s touched, all her philantrophy not to mention all the obstacles shes over come, then YOUR not the proper role model–not Oprah!
We as black women arent raised to question our black men. We are BORN strong. It comes from our ancestors, being Queens in Africa, then stripped of our royalty and brought over to pick cotton and get whipped, belittled and raped–and still hold it down for the family. We have the blood and preserverance of Sojourner Truth, Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks and Coretta Scott King running thru our veins. So submissive is the last thing you need to be worrying about.
My opinion here, but I think he just doesn’t want to deal with the black woman’s strength. He wants to deal with a race which he thinks will just succumb to him and his every need then dont question him when he wants to dip into another chick. The white women he has dealt with had to have been like that..and thats just probally because he’s in the music industry–or a luke warm celeb or whatever. But Polow, sorry to have to tell you, but strong women come in every color. Youve probally just been messing with the white “suburb girl” who likes to fuck black men, but never in a million years will bring your ass home to daddy.

On one hand black women are sitting there thinking, since when were we “raised” to be challenging and white women sitting there thinking “subservient”? I will say that you don’t need to have personal issues to date outside of your race, I’m married outside of my race and I’ve got no issues with myself- I’ve never seen race is a barrier for me. As long as he meant my basics; smart, driven, doesn’t walk funny, that kind of stuff.

I’m not saying that some of us can’t date outside or race because we have found someone and wanted to be with that person (remember in my last post i said that i’ve dated white men) what i said was for a man to have a loathing of his race, paricularly black women, and to try to exclude that race when dating; 9 times out of 10 he has some personal issue occure within his life to denounce his race. Something like if a girl grows up and sees her mother being beating time and time again by a black man; she might choose to date other races out of fear of what she saw while growing up.

I’m sorry, but these men cannot have their cake and eat it, too. WTF does “submissive” mean to men? For too many men, it means that they want a woman who will let them hang in the streets with their boys and sleep around while the woman stays her ass at home cooking and cleaning, and when he comes home there are no questions. Women have to work to help pay bills, and men STILL expect us to come home and play the housewife role, while they chill after work.
A ***REAL*** man does not have to tell his woman what to do to feel like a man. Black men’s egos are just too fragile. They don’t feel respected by white people, and they come home and take that shit out on their women. I don’t think most black women have a problem taking care of a good man who takes care of them, *BUT* it is a two-way street. No grown person wants a man treating them like they are one of their kids, and too many men mistake being “head-of-household” for acting like someone’s daddy.
