I don’t care how ancient the philosophy is, I don’t need a girl to let me boss her around any more than I want to be bossed around myself. However he does have a point (that a lot of men are afraid to address publicly) that our women are taught to question us, even resent us often. I believe that the constant negative stereotypes about us have aided this trend and the effect is waaay too much misogyny in lyrics and images from young rappers in the mainstream.

In the past few years the media (film, tv, print magazines, internet) has seriously begun to work on negative stereotypes for young black women. Instead of fighting it most rappers (sell-outs) have ASSISTED in this trend. This only furthers the divide between us as men and women.

If we really want to solve the problems between us we need to open the lines of communication and shed light on positive couples as well as single brothers and sisters in music and media instead of mostly focusing on the negative and controversial figures and then cussing them out on the internet. The college groups (greeks, black councils, etc…) should be having forums discussing these issues and the atmosphere should be relaxed where no one is taking statements too personally and no question or comment should be considered too stupid or disrespectful because if one person (regardless of gender or color) is thinking something, chances are another person is too.

1. Serena and Halle(or any other black female celebrity that I know of) have never said (to date)anything to put black men in a negative light and that’s the whole point. How could anyone misinterpret this statement?

I have no problem with the “divine order” comment because he is “in a sense” correct. However, “women” period were created as a compliment to their men and along with that, submission does not mean roll over and do “whatever my man says.” It means that as a women married, key factor “married,” to ONE man, understands that as the man, yes he is the HEAD of the household. But as companions and as one team, “we” have discussions about decisions to be made. Now if the man comes to a final conclusion on something that the woman doesnt agree with then thats that. All and all, either his decision will be sucessful and we’ll be proud or it will turn out for the worst and we’ll silently think “I told you so.” And thats for ALL women race aside.

Now about the whole preference of white women, Polow da Don is right, black and white girls are raised differently. I mean HELLO, they are WHITE and we are BLACK. I just came back from a drive, and i want to apologize for the stupid statements i made about white women, about tham stankin and all. You see, to be completely real, I don’t think the whole “women MUST submit to their husbands” thing applies anymore. At least, not in the way it used to. Back in the day (and I supposed we can go waaaaay back in the day to when that particular passage in the bible was written), it was particular practice that the man was the bread winner, and the woman took care of the home. It wasn’t socially expected that married woman worked. Simply, they didn’t. Their job was minding the home and taking care of the children. The men were the breadwinners.

In that structure, women submitting to their husbands made sense, because if the man was the breadwinner–and he was–he controlled the money. And, if he controlled the money, he controlled the home, the food, the clothing, the livelihood of his family. The wife ran the home for her husband but her husband OWNED the home. So, naturally, the final decisions would be his. In a strange way not practical today, this was a symbiotic relationship that worked when you had two willing people (i.e. the man that wanted a family, and a woman who wanted a man to take care of her and a family to raise…and not a career of own).

Fast forward to today, and it’s a COMPLETELY different dynamic. This is the era where the working woman is common. Woman aren’t comfortable just sitting around the house watching the kids anymore. They want to be out there, getting an education and having a career, too. What’s socially acceptable has changed, as nowadays it’s pretty much expected that women–married or not–work. But the old mindset hasn’t really changed, and not too many people like to admit that that’s where a lot of stress derides from in relationships. Back in the day, when the men came home from a long day’s work, they were pretty allowed to sit around and relax while the wife made sure they were comfortable, had dinner on the table, etc. The wife didn’t have a job, her job was the home, so in a sense, seeing to his after-work needs was part of her job.

This statement really bothers me. Not because he wants to date white girls, because IMO that’s just a given in the Hip Hop Community. What bothers me about this statement is that he perpetuates this attitude that all black woman have chips on their shoulders and are angry and argumentative. This just doesn’t apply to relationships, this also applies to work situations as well. When a black woman challenges someone in the work enviornment, no matter how polite and respectful she does it, she is almost always viewed as being “sassy” or “having an attitude problem”. This idea that black woman don’t have a right to defend themselves, in a soceity that does nothing but present obstacle after obstacle for them, is so ridiculous and I hate the fact that our own people buy into it.

Black woman aren’t angry, we’re self-relient. We’ve had to be for generations and that’s nothing to be ashamed of. We live in a culture that emasculates the black male, making it more difficult for him to protect, provide for and defend his woman and his family. Even in the most perfect marraige between a black couple, the black man always has the added pressure of racism - the third partner in the relationship. Whether it comes in the form of a glass ceiling at work, a humiliating unwarrented traffic stop & search or mortagage application turned down because of redlining, black men in our society are constantly emasculated and thus black woman have always had to take on more aggressive roles to keep their families together, while of course dealing with their OWN discrimination.

As a result of this, we have a culture where black men are taught to look towards thug behavior, materialism, mysogony and “taking the white man’s woman” as a means for proving their manhood and black woman are taught to define themselves by the sum of their parts and be “ride or die bitches” to appeal to men. The black woman who don’t suscribe to that type of behavior are just strong minded individuals who are focused on handling their businesses and following the strong examples set by the woman who came before them. This is why so many black woman are out performing black men in careers and education. We have come to realize that, even if you are around with the outside pressures of being black in the type of world we live in it’s going to take TWO of us working side by side to make things happen. It sad that some black men can’t see why black woman are so strong. And it’s sad, that some black men don’t see that as an attribute, because it is. Every battle black people have won in this country happened because black woman and men worked together side by side. Somehow we forgot that. It’s like we’ve come to hate each other. Trust me, it will eventually be our down fall and I’m sorry hip hop only fuels this battle of the sexes.

It’s not about bossing around but there has to be a final authority that makes decisions in any organization including the family. A wise man will listen to his woman take her opinons under consideration. I fully understand why many black women will be mad at this. Now I am married and have been for 6 years with the same black woman. And we have three children so I can speak from experience, because my wife and I have noticed a change in society.

Many black women have so much BS to deal with, like non-committed men, abuse from all sides wether, music videos objectifying them and no one rally uplifting them unless it is in the pages of Essence and Vibe vixen. But their white counterparts are celebrated in American society a lot more. So it is understandable if Black women will not tolerate the bullshit thrown at them, become more independent and make their own moves. And that means leaving the men behnd to twiddle their thumbs.

The problem that comes with that as a by-product, are that many women are more assertive and determine their own way in life with such passion they do not let a man be a man, and take control especially if they have not had that love from their father or past boyfriends. Most men do not know to open car dorrs, walk on the out side of the sidewalk, or just asume the bill on the first date. (they grew up on rap, braging, and hanging with similiar guys who were rised by their mother’s in efectively because the father was not around). So there becomes a huge disconnect. Most white women demand this type of treatment and get it. They “act” docile and “act” very interested in careers, and will let a guy “feel” like he is an ALPHA male and stroke his ego. Many black women voice their displeasures in public and with an “in your face” mentality with their man because they won’t tolerate Bullshit, they no longer stick to dealing with issues behind closed doors. And I fully understand where they come from but maybe showing the world how assertive powerful and independent you are is not the way to create a healthy enviornment for a relationship. You can be powerful without wearing it on your sleeves. In closing as an example, Jada Pinkett is a spitefire and a very assertive female, but look how she acts in publc with Will, (who by the way is not like Tupac her ex boyfriend) she gives him the lead, the headship. it is pure biblical principles.

Many women will listen to everything a preacher tells them to do and will ignore cuss out and argue with their husband. A man is the head of his household and relationship. Well a well rounded and decent responsible man. And if you don’t have one of those do not settle. I think submission is more of a trust and love where you’re actions are for the purpose of making you’re man happy, rather than for the purpose of training him, or getting him to make YOU happy. That’s the difference. Submissive women take pleasure in putting a smile on their man’s face, and see it as them doing a good job as a woman or wife. While a non-submissive woman thinks their man should be doing that for them.

I personally feel that the best relationships exist when both the man and woman are submissive to each other and put aside their personal desires for the purpose of making they’re significant other happy. I’m a black man (military). I’ve been stationed all over the states, and have met many black woman from everywhere a lot rich, and some middle class, all of them were raised by both successful parents. Sorry to say all my encounters with black woman haven’t been so pleasant. I recall one time, I was dating a black woman from Utah (out of all places). I worked 24 hours straight, came home tired and hungry. I asked her “baby do you mind bringing me the sandwich I made earlier from the frig and bring me a glass of water please, I can’t move to save my own life”. She told me “well you aren’t dead yet, so you can do it yourself.”!! That was the last straw for me!

Now I’m stationed out in Europe, and still even see a difference from white girls and black girls. I read a statement from one black woman on here saying that “black woman have to be strong, because they don’t have resources or some crap like that.” White European woman don’t have any money to save their life… They use Euro dollars, which is way stronger than American dollars, and they all are broke! I do understand your point and believe me you have some good ones from your stand point… however why is it when a black man on this site wants to agree with “Polow” they have to emphasize I’m a “Black” man, I have “Black” sisters. To me it should not matter what race you are if you have a valid point you have a valid point.

These black women you may have come across may not have been submissive but have you ever heard opposite attracts. Because you are submissive we always tend to choose people that are totally opposite of us, so the women that you choose to deal with is from your own decisions. It really does not matter if you are in the military or not you have not encountered all black women and all European white women to make these allegations.. as I stated before I have friends from many races and some can be labeled as submissive and some can be labeled as having very little tolerance. If we as people stop trying to segregate races by their behavior the world would be a better place.

And to say your mother may not have raised you sisters correctly, well I guess she raised you and you seem to be intelligent. I agree with Big Brockness and the dude that said black women are the least feminine of all the other races/cultures. Because of the black women’s attitude, people automatically think I’m going to be that way — all attitude and loud and cursing a dude out in public. I am so far from that.
