A feud between Rev. Al Sharpton and rapper David Banner (yes you read that right) has been heating up the net all week. In an interview with SOHH.COM last week, David Banner told Al to “suck [his] d*ck”; among other things. The Reverend then shot back with his own official response that basically fell short of calling Banner a “faggot”.
In response to Sharpton’s statement, David Banner sent out an open letter via Eurweb yesterday and called out all Black leaders for their lack of action within the community. Read a snippet from his letter after the cut.
Stop Attacking The Kids
To all the black ‘so called leaders’. Al, Oprah, Jesse, etc, etc, etc… I’m saddened by your current direction and current ‘pet projects’ you guys have taken under your wing at the expense of Young Black America. As an urban professional living in this crazy world, I dare ask, who are you leading? I listen to what you say, I hear you complain about the youth, and about the direction of our lives, the kids, and where Black America is going and yet I still ask – who are you guys leading? And most importantly, where are we going? Do we know the goal we are trying to reach before we get there? Have we identified our end before articulating our means to an end! [READ THE FULL LETTER HERE]
Talk about drama. Let’s see what Al is going to say in response to this one.
WHY IS SHE PARTYING WHILE I’M MOURNING?!

The widower of the woman who died in a car accident involving R&B singer Brandy Norwood is mad as hell at Brandy for going out and partying it up while he’s still mourning his wife’s death.
The attorney for Awatef Aboudihaj’s husband, Marquane Hdidou, told TMZ.COM that his client is extremely angry that he sees pictures of Brandy out clubbing so soon after the crash, which happened last December.
A judge also allowed Marquane Hdidou, his wife’s two kids from a previous marriage, her parents and a woman also involved in the car accident to combine their lawsuits into one.
VING RHAMES SPEAKS OUT ON DOG INCIDENT

Ving Rhames released a statement Monday offering condolences over the death of his caretaker, who was mauled by the actor’s dogs at Rhames’s Brentwood, Calif. home earlier this month.
“I was out of the country when this shocking and terrible tragedy occurred on my property,” the statement reads. “Jacob Adams was not just a devoted employee – he was also a dear friend. I want to offer my heartfelt condolences to his family.”
Although Rhames goes on to say that a “coroner’s report confirmed that my dogs were not the cause” of Adams’ death, the Los Angeles Department of Coroner tells PEOPLE that an autopsy is still pending, and no initial findings have been released.

@178
Enough with that voting nonsense. If voting worked, Al Sharpton and these men that capitalize off of racial situations would not have a niche in this society.
that accident was last year, i dont think brandy is gonna be as upset as the damn widower over the lady’s death, in her field sometimes u just have to brush things off or put ur personal life to the side and keep workin, everybody mourns in their own way
David Banner poor example to the young black youth bra!!!!
the question is WHO IS BANNER LEADING???? These leaders and philanthropist don’t have to get involved at all. Oprah chooses to help people that she don’t have to help at all and people still complaining. SHUT UP and do something yourself!!! The complaints about our youth and behaviors are true. This is the problem we don’t want to hear the ugly truth and get all defensive about rightful criticism that we bring on ourselves. I bet if Banner was in some kind of unfair legal trouble, I bet he would want AL and Jesse to help him out. He needs to sit down. Just like 50 cent being mad at Oprah for her opinion on rap lyrics, his lyrics ARE vulgar toward black women PERIOD and I’m tired of people using the jungles(ghetto) that they came from as an excuse because I lived in the so called HOOD. Change your reality by changing your speech, your attitude, your thought life. We all have that power to change but we choose not to do so and make ‘poor ole me’ excuses.
@ 180. the real cookie
I am sorry if I’m missing your point. But that was the exact point Oprah and Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson are making. Which is what the post is about. This is why this all started. Al Sharpton and David Banner are from the same World Musically. And four years ago when they were try to get all the hip hop star behind the vote for Kerry, they where not concerned with lyrical content. I don’t pretent to know much about rap music. And trust I might be younger than you and female (by the way) I dont defend the content. But at the same time stop buying music you dont like. Stop going to the concerts. If you stop listen to a person, they will stop talking. Underground artist not doing good cause no one is buying the music.
“My point is about a person, making a living off of exploiting and perputating pure negativity and not expecting to be called out on it.”
That is a good line. That is how you feel and you are welcome to that. But to the same time this is America that is exactlly what the Bill of Rights affords us. The first amendment give us the freedom to say as we please. What ever it is that maybe. It is entertainment, make believe. ” keep it real” yea right. OPARH is entertainment, rapper are entertainer. They ARE NOT HERO. And for all the negative things that Oparh says and does, you talk about the good things. That all these artist are asking for. So you dont like their content don down play all the good they have done. Because trust David Banner has sent his share of kids to college.
@judah
Oh voting works. The people who are voting arent working properly.
To the family of the deceased who is obviously looking for ammunition to take to court on Brandy, we are all saddened for your lost, sincerely, but i think it’s a shame that you would exploit a awful situation and try to turn this horrific accident into a pay day. You should be a shamed. If the woman that hit your wife’s car was a random person, you would not be pursuing this as you are, instead, you would be seeking therapy and trying to work through your pain and lost with your family. Not to trivialize your lost, but these type of accidents happen every day, and while it’s unfortunate, sometimes these things happen, though they don’t hurt any less. It’s awful to lose someone suddenly in an accident of any kind, but to presumably exploit this lost is just sad and shameful. What if the person that hit your wife was a person with no money, then what would you have done? She hasn’t been charged in this crime, surely, if she would have been wreckless, as some people on here claims, then she would have at least been ticketed, and presumably later charged with either a misdemeanor or felony crime. The reason why this hasn’t been done is because there’s no evidence of any foul play as of yet. They’ve been investigating this for months. I had a car accident in few years back where i hit a car from behind, but i was cut off suddenly on the highway, where the car suddently jerked itself into my lane. I had no room to swerve, and i hit the car, not bad, but i taped it even though i hit my brakes. I was never charged with anything because even though i hit that car, the person in the front was at fault because witnesses were able to state that the vehicle suddenly pulled into my lane. Point mentioning, these things happen, and sometimes people walk away, and sometimes people don’t; i just hope your law suit for being done for the right reasons and not greed. My thoughts and prayers are with both families.
TO DAVID BANNER AND AL SHARPTON:
I SEE NON-BLACK PEOPLE, AND THEY ARE LAUGHING AT US. I COULD SAY SO MUCH MORE, BUT WHY, THIS MESS WILL NEVER CHANGE.
SURELY, MARTIN L. KING IS TURNING OVER IN HIS GRAVE WHILE CORETTA IS CATCHING HIM UP ON WHAT’S BEEN GOING DOWN SINCE HIS DEATH. HE’D BE SO ASHAMED…
ENOUGH SAID.
David Banner, this punk should be thankful his black a.. can even make music, sell records and live the life he lives. If it wasn’t for the Al’s,Jesse’s, Dr King and other prominent black leaders his black a– would be picking cotton in the fields right now. Alot of young blacks are so ignorant these days because they don’t care about nothing, won’t stand for nothing, and to me will never amount to nothing. I don’t care if you sell a billion records, here in the good old USA you are still just another dumb black man to most white people out there. You think it’s ok to call women b-t-hes and h–s and each other the N-word BUT GET MAD IF SOME WHITE PERSON CALLS YOU THAT,you are too stupid to realize that the white man no longer has to put a rope around your neck to hang you, he just gives the rope to you and let you do it yourself. It might take a little longer but you will eventually kill yourself and take as many of your young black brothers and sisters with you as you can…Wake up BlacK People!!!!
I think its sickening that people are questioning the motives of AL and Jesse. Like they are motivated by media attention as to compare them with a Paris Hilton, YOU IDIOTS! These men have a calling on their lives that they chose to answer to and could choose to give up at anytime and who will lead or speak up for our ungrateful selves then? These men recieve death threats for doing what they do for our ungrateful selves. They can not save us from everything that we get ourselves into. You can not tell me they enjoy the pressure, criticism, and threats on their lives, and the unappreciation from black folk like Banner, just for a thrill. You sound ignorant! It has to be a calling!!! Leave Jesse alone about his infidelity. That woman might have kept after him. I’m sure alot of women came after Jesse because women are attracted to authority figures. He gave in to temptation. He shouldn’t have but he did and he has to deal with the consequences of his actions just like everybody else. I’m proud to have them as advocates for the black community because they bring attention to the battles that come against us and they don’t have to. Because no one else has the guts or tenacity to do it. As far as Oprah is concerned, what she was saying is that our youth today are so spoiled, and we are, that we don’t appreciate what we have in this country. We covet material things like ipods, shoes, and put our energy into learning the latest dances. We take things like an education for granted, we dumb down for the sake of being street! we just don’t want to admit it. She chose to build a school in an area of the world that don’t have it half as good as we do here and for kids that won’t take it for granted like we do. Why should’nt they have the best. I’m proud she did’nt give them less than they deserve. If she chose to buy a car or another mansion with that money, nobody would say anything, because we only care about the material things. This is the reason why we have so many illegal aliens, because they want what we have taken for granted. We should applaud them more than we do celebrities that don’t do anything tohelp their neighbor and would rather buy bling that to help anybody.
The husband of the deceased is full of shit. i understand he’s mourning but Brandy has to get over the accident and move on with her life. I suggest he does the same!!!! It has been almost a year!!!!! I’m proud Brandy is out partying, she shouldnt let this accident stop her from living!!!!
#83- Just had to pop in and say this:
Those kids in Africa will NEVER have a chance in their wildest dreams. That’s why. Over here we have the opportunity to attend schools and that’s enough in itself. It is not Oprah’s fault some people don’t want to take advantage of that opportunity because they’re more interested in other trivial things. It’s ridiculous. Some black women in America can’t afford a decent house, but you better be sure as hell they can afford that $250 dollar weave!
__Oh and I think both Banner and Jackson are wrong. I don’t depend on Jackson for nada. End of story.
Oh, and I also think it’s RIDICULOUS that all these people are telling this poor guy to “get over” the death of his wife. WTF! Brandy must’ve done something stupid on that freeway is all I know..And if she had driven over my mother, I’d be mad as heck too! Yes, she should live her life and shouldn’t have to dwell in sorrow, one of the reasons being she has her own daughter to take care of, but it’s whatever to me. I’m sure people on Brandy’s camp would probably be even more pissed if someone ran over Brandy, leaving her daughter motherless.
Oh, and FYI, I don’t take Sharpston seriously about 96% of the time…He’s so full of BS. Everything is racial to him.
If it weren’t for people like Jessie Jackson, Oprah, Rev Al and a lot of people who lived through the worst of struggles in the 60s a lot of us black people would not even be on a computer and being able to voice our opinions today.
Sorry David but I disagree. You and I grew up with cable television, being able to work and get the same education, employment, where rappers like Russell Simmons, Jay Z, Diddy, 50 cent, Beyonce, Little Kim were able to have the same amount or more in their banking account as the white man.
During our “leaders” error they were constantly fighting to make a future for we black people. Demonstrating you don’t have to give up and take just anything including giving up your hopes and dreams just because people said Black people were behind. These people had riots, fought, supported Dr. Martin Luther King and walked and stood out in front of business that refuse to hire or allow person in their store because of the color of their skin.
David you can talk all this bullshit that you want, but it’s people like you that will have us back to place where our ancestors lived without being able to voice our rights. Are the rappers who have gotten it easy who were former drug dealers, been in jail for taking what’s not yours, and shooting your own skin color just to rule a certain block and power? What have you done? We can’t even have a decent award show for our black people without a shooting from our own race or some other type of hate.
David Banner I doubt you will make anyone’s history book because you talk about our leaders but remember there are those that will grow up one day and ask how can you sit there and tell another black individual to suck your $%#. This type of outburst and foolishness you displayed is only entertainment for the white man that love when black people turn against one another. None of these white people have any respect for the rappers and will always laugh at the way you, 50 cent and Luda act to one another. What have you done? You weren’t the only person helping with Hurricane Katrina victims. There are plenty black people who went down there without a name and invited victims to live in there homes. Cooked food out of their own money earned from mopping floors at a hospital and cleaning some white persons house, but did what they could to help those unfortunate.
David Banner wants attention and his warrant is an embarrassment. Just another brother trying to bring a smile on the white man’s face by disrespecting those of color that have succeeded their goals.
You don’t speak for me David Banner. I find you ignorant and lacking respect. Whatever you voiced will be forgotten by the end of the year. You are not even thought of until this statement. Yet, people like Oprah, Jesse, Rev Al names that have built intimidated the white man enough to force them to open the doors on the ones who worked hard to get in them will always be remembered. You’re just one of the few who have shown nothing other than you can whine.
what david banner said was all so true—our so called leaders are not doing their job for the (n.a.c.p.)!!!! the jenna 6 should have been on cnn, fox, nbc, abc & all the other stations but no- WE ARE NOT IMPORTANT!!!!! woohoo! the president daughter is getting married-who da *%^$ cares????? we have GOT to find a solution! this so crazy…….building a school in africa, when we need schools here…..worried about giving WORDS(hoes, bit#%,#igga) a furenal….youve got children out of wedlock but upset with young teenage mothers….our leaders need to stop worring about our music and start worring about our lives! teach a child how to do right–and it will–it might take awhile but it will.we must learn how to educate ourselves about the basics-education,money and family.black leaders cant ‘save the day’ but they can do a hellva lot better!!!!!
on the brandy ….
the husband must remember that is wife is NEVER going to come back and Brandy nor him can change that (the money might help) may her soul RIP……….
^^^^^ FYI last time I checked primary and secondary public education was free (thats why we have taxes) and FASFA is available for poor students like me who can’t afford to go to college. .Black leaders have brought us out of slavery, from jim crow laws, and segregation…they can’t go on job interviews with you and help you get a job, remind you to use a condom, aid you in school, help buy houses, pay bills for you, tell you to stay away from drugs and gangs. Seriously you have to do something for yourself… . . . . . . . .
Most of the gangsta music is disgusting and degrading. Look at how David Banner addresses Al Sharpton, totally with no respect. This is typical in rap music, which many times shows no respect towards another Black person. Even if David disagrees with Al such language is unacceptable. This is why Imus thought it was ok to make his statement, because of people like David. His letter is confusing.
That is not David Banner in that picture!!!! get it together CL! But I do agree with him, people are so damn concerned about rap when it should be about the people. These songs don’t hurt the people, people have been calling one another names for a long time. I tell you what, when I start hearing/seeing people doing something about the violence (that’s been a part of our community), the homeless, the aids victims that seem to have risen in our community from black men who don’t give a shit about us, then I’ll listen to Al. I wish he would sit his hot combed, greasy hair ass down! Go out to the hood nigga, and stop showing up only to get on television.
I mean, just like that movie said, all the people that actually want to make a change die. Make a change nigga, and die.
i’m sorry that the man lost his wife, but Brandy didn’t maliciously cause the accident nor was she under the influence of anything, falling asleep, or talking on the phone.
i do think she should provide compensation in a interest earning trust fund for the victims children & a settlement for the husband. however as much as i sympathize with the parents losing their daughter, i don’t think they should be able to sue her.
is it me, or does banner REALLY remind u of damon dash on that pic right there? its kinda weird… look entirely different with a fitted and rays on, haha
I think 8 months is enough time for Brandy to mourn this situation. Thier was nothing wrong with her going out, she is not Paris Hilton. It seems like the family was just waiting for her to do anything so they could jump on her. Hold ya head up B.
I think David Banner just wants attention. No doubt the lack of representation in our communiy is lack luster. But who is he? What has he done? He had no right to disrespect them just for his own gain. Al Sharpton should not have responded. This is not a rap record. Yet.
kind.
Gansta Rap = Minstrel Show
It’s just that simple. Black people acting a fool and disrespecting themselves for the joy, entertainment and pleasure of white people. Yes, because white people are the ones buying it. Whoever can’t see how these negative images affect us is bugging. If we complain about the way white people depict us in the mainstream media, how is that we don’t complain about it when it comes to black people?
@185
The Real Cookie is making some valid points.
I’m in my mid-twenties so I consider myself young also. We all understand freedom of speech and it’s not about us as young adults understanding that hip hip is for entertainment. The problem is the fact that kids are trying to immulate these fictional lifestyles. I grew up in the hood. I know the issues and people can post in these forums all day saying that parents should be responsible for the actions of their kids, but at the end of the day these kids are raising themselves. Young parents with questionable mentalites don’t have much to offer kids and the drug addicted parents are too busy chasing a high, then you have the single moms that are too busy working to keep the lights on. And I can tell that David Banner knows of these issues and understands because he spoke of DuBois in his letter to Sharpton. The talented tenth have to help bring the masses of blacks from our state of ignorance. So if you know the problems and understand the ignorace, why would you promote it? FOR THE LOVE OF MONEY! Our oppressors have instilled in us to vaule money more than our lives. The people in this country understand that blacks will sell each other out for a little profit even if the affects are detrimental to our community. We have to stop defending bad and start taking a stance for what is right. We can’t leave the state of our community on the shoulders of our so-called “black leaders” and downplay their efforts because we haven’t made progress. Before there is true change people have to know that they deserve better. The affects of drugs have reversed allot of the previous efforts made by our black leaders.
Our generation has completely changed the game. If I’m an articulate, attractive, well-dressed black women than I’m “acting white”. But back in the sixties seventies, and eighties that was the norm for black women to carrier themselves with grace and tact and to dress nice and to become educated.
ok not to be harsh or anything but if he is still mourning the death of his wife, why is he spending his time on the internet looking at pictures of Brandy partying. He should be spending his time with family and friends healing and celebrating the memory of his wife. Seems to me like he and his lawyer are trying to build a stronger case based on emotional stress. I wonder if they are suing everyone involved in the crash?
David Banner does have a point about our black leaders. I have not seen one interview from Al or Jesse discussing the gross injustice going on with the Jena 6 situation. Oh but then again Al was so wrapped up into doing tv interviews on the duke rape case he probably didn’t even notice.
@203 jes
The Real Cookie is making some valid points.
I think you missed her point as she stated it doesnt matter if it is afffecting the kids are degrading women. They not “keeping it real”. Well as parents” We not keeping real” It dont matter how old you are once you have them Kids it’s timeout for all childish things. Kids blame other people for they problems. “Young parents with questionable mentalites don’t have much to offer kids and the drug addicted parents are too busy chasing a high, then you have the single moms that are too busy working to keep the lights on.” Excuess, Excuess. All that is from bad parenting. So you’re saying that because these people fail to provide Emotional support to their kids, someone else should change their way of life to make sure these kids are taking care of. That sounds like self pity and blame to me. When I see bad parenting I take them aside and I tell the with tact. I dont say” boy that rap music is really messing up your kid”. If TI talk to your son more than you do of course its sounds goods. Anything is better than nothing. Its not 50 cent fault that a child only has one parent, or that the mother didnt do what she need to do while she was in school to get where she need to be in life. Hell he had a bad mother too. Why should he feel sorry for her. WE NEED to BREAK THIS CYCLE. When you get off work i know you tired, so what. Read a book with your babies. Talk to your lil girl about respect. Talk to your lil boy about respect. Dont let your kids dictate your personal life, but dont let your personal life dictate your kids. Put your kids in the know. And it not just rapper either. We need to look at what some of these singers male and female are saying. Be the example for your kids. YOU RIGHT THERE. IT DOESN’T MATTER WHATS IN A SONG, WHATS RIGHT BE FOR THEIR EYES MAKES THEM THE MAN OR THE WOMAN THEY WILL BECOME.
Somebody please tell me what the hell has David Banner ever done to uplift the Black community? How dare he go at Black people who have made sacrifices for our people and have made diligent eforts to get things done? Is he serious?
I am sorry to hear about dude wife, but that does not mean brandy should stop living her life, I mean it was a fucking accdent!! it ain’t like she went to the lady car and shot and killed her. so dude need to clam his money hungey ass down because don’t no body wants to hear that shit. he sounds like he is more worried about what the fuck brandy doing then his wife if you ask me!!
glad Brandy isn’t hiding…I co-sign with everyone who says she can’t mourn forever.
David Banner..he’s done some good things, but what the fuck was he thinkin when he started ranting? I don’t know…
To all those saying Sharpton needs to help the Jena Six–how do you know he isn’t? A quick google search will come up with
http://www.katc.com/Globa...520&nav=menu209_2boom
a story about Sharpton protesting on behalf of the Jena 6. Just because the media doesn’t cover it widely doesn’t mean he’s not trying to help. And if the media did cover it–ya’ll say he was just doin it for attention. He can’t win.
David Banner letter is a reflection of some urban adult and most urban youth mindset. Our black leaders and elders are out of touch with reality. They don’t care about what’s going on in the hood. They just want TV time. The white man is keeping us down. That is far from the truth with the exception of the white man keeping us down. He’s holding us down but we’re making it easy for him to do so. Our black leaders and elders are disappointed in us and they have the right to be. They sacrificed blood, sweat, and tears to better our current and future existence. They laid down the foundation for us the bridge the social and economical gaps and want us to continue the movement, are we living up to the challenge. I think our black leaders see the hip –hop community as under utilizing there influential powers to bridge those gaps.
I hate to agree with our black leaders on this, because I’m a hip-hop head but there right. Hip-hop needs to man up and take some of the responsible not all but some and stop pointing the finger. I understand hip-hop has created a lot of jobs and opportunity for the black community but is has also tainted the minds with beliefs that thuggin and street cred is more important than doing what ethically and morally right.
Example: “Stop Snitchin”, some of our youth are living by this code. We all know the police and judicial system is flawed. Can’t we come up with a better idea then “Stop Snitchin” to counter this flawed system
“Cam’ron was featured on the April 22, 2007 edition of news show 60 Minutes, and was interviewed by Anderson Cooper about the “Stop Snitching” campaign. When asked if he would tell the police if a serial killer was living next to him, he replied “I would probably move,” but he wouldn’t inform the police.”
These same criminal were not snitchin on are the same criminal that are going to pass this mental down to their kids, in-turn keeping us on this same destructive course. I’m looking for the punk that killed my best friend so I can snitch on him.
Give our black leaders a break. I don’t think our black leaders and elders are asking too much of us. Help them help us! There catching heat from both sides the black community and White America. There being called hypocrites by White America for addressing issues that we haven’t addressed in our own communities. The black communities are saying, our black leaders aren’t doing enough in the community. How can they go to bat for us when we’re not collectively helping ourselves?
We need a resolution! United we stand divide we fall!
Brandy was involved in the accident in Dec 06. It is now AUGUST 2007!!!!!
EIGHT MONTHS ON and they expect her to be still a wreck?
The bitch aint show herself anywhere till APRIL. And she aint been doing a Paris Hilton. The only way we hear about her is through Websites!!!!!
This is all a clever attempt at getting the ‘potential’ jury who will decided what happens in Jan, to be mad at Brandy. To stir up bad feelings to her. They want America to hate Brandy. So they can sue the HELL out of her! Its DISGUSTING.
The parents aint seen their daughter in THREE YEARS. They in a DIFFERENT CONTINENT. And they wanna sue for $50 million?????
The Husband and His Wife were ESTRANGED up until the accident, and now he’s all upset?
Keep it moving..
With the whole brandy thing..i mean i don’t really think we can say much really say anything because none of us are really in either of their shoes so im not gonna sit there and tell them to get over it because yall know if it was vice versa you would still be upset. Deaths not easy to get over with ya know .So i guess you can’t say much until it really happens to you.
Excuse me! But NOBODY can speak for BRANDY & NOONE can speak for the WIDOWER in this case (unless you lost your WIFE/HUSBAND or a very, very close Relative or loved one) Who are some of you to judge how long a person should mourn for anothers death. That man has a right to greive the loss of his wife for as long as it takes.
When some of ya’ll go through that type of Devastating loss then you will understand until then you really don’t know what you are talking about (you “cannot” relate)!! You have no idea where this mans “mental state” is right now. I have Respect for the man & I know where he is coming from (I lost someone close to me, at the hands of someone else, as I mentioned earlier).
BRANDY does not give a shit because it wasn’t her Mother, Father, or her brother Ray J. So thats how she can move on so quickly & not give a shit. Her conscience is alot better than mines because I sure as hell wouldn’t be “partying”—I’d be out doing some charity work, going to places to hear people in the same situation speak out amongst each other, She can be doing so much more than what she is. (maybe she has, we don’t know everything).
But I don know this…it isn’t my place to say when someone should get over the loss of someone really close to them, because that takes a whole lot more time thana person may “think”. Once again..you have to go through it to understand where the man is coming from. I feel that mans pain.
I hope God gives him strength to move on, & forgive Brandy for what she has done.

I think that David Banner has some valid points but at the same time he should show more respect for those that have paved the way for him. I am apart of that black youth that he mentions so often and I do not feel as if anything that leaders such as Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Julian Bonds or Bill Cosby have said are bashing me in any way. I believe that what they have said is the truth and people get upset when you hear the truth.
David Banner’s heart is in the right place but he seems to have a little misguided anger. He want’s to be a voice for the black community but you don’t do it by being rude to those that have marched on the streets of Selma, been arrested at sit ins and forced to the back of the bus to do that . He should work with these indivduals to solve these pressing issues and develop some actual resolutions to these problems …that’s all I have to say.

I AGREE WITH DAVID BANNER!!! WHY IS OPRAH OVER THERE IN AFRICA, BUILDING SCHOOLS, WHEN THERE ARE PLENTY OF POOR BLACK KIDS IN AMERICA WHO NEED HELP WITH THEIR TUITION FOR COLLEGE AND JUST HELP LIVING PERIOD! JESSE AND AL NEED TO PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT THIS MAN IS SAYING…HE MAKES A LOT OF SENSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DENISE SAID: STUDENT LOANS AND GRANTS EXISTS FOR POOR KIDS WHO WANT TO GO TO COLLEGE, AND ALSO THERE ARE PLENTY OF UNIVERSITIES THAT OFFER LOWER TUITION RATES. IF YOU HAVE TO GET A FULL TIME JOB AND GO TO SCHOOL PART-TIME DO THAT. THERE IS NO EXCUSE NOWADAYS IN AMERICA TO NOT HAVE AN EDUCATION. I USE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT OPRAH NOT DOING ENOUGH FOR AMERICAN BLACKS, BUT HEY, I DO NOT NEED HER ORDER TO GET AHEAD. I AM VERY PROUD OF OPRAH, SHE WENT FROM BEING A DIRT POOR KID IN MISSISSIPPI, TO A MOGUL. I DO NOT AGREE WITH EVERYTHING SHE DOES OR SAYS, BUT HEY SHE DOES NOT MAKE BLACK FOLKS LOOK BAD.
interesting ….
like chris rock once said “it’s a war, niggas v. black people and the niggas have got to go!” david banner is an embarrassment to black folks who work hard, are educated, and can speak without using vulgar language in every sentence.
David Banner is a bad influence on these kids growing up. He would have made points to take action had it not been for his stupidity in disrespect telling another brotha to suck his &*^%. What the hell is that? How can Banner set an example when he doesn’t respect others. My parents grandparents taught me to respect others. These very black leaders today fought and stood in the rain watched brothers get beaten to death by the white man or cops where only a hand few of black people protest against it. During that time our parents were washing dishes, waiting tables and cleaning floors so we could have a decent education and be happy not even realizing how poor we really were.
Banner lost me at suck my *(&1. Those very black leaders he disrespected fought against the white man for equal rights for all people of color. Who was behind Rosa Parks and marched with Martin Luther King Jr while white people spat on them, arrested them and where black people lived in fear from the white man.
Now people like Banner fight against black people. How can we get ahead fighting against each other instead of working together. I don’t blame Oprah or Rev Sharpton to ignore some of these crazy azz bs talking rappers. They have no respect and why should Oprah or any leader who fought so hard and know what it really is like to live where the majority black people in that time period were single black parents had to eat syrup on a slice of bread and oatmeal each breakfast.
It’s the typical repeat of another ignorant ass trying to grab attention while he’s rapping about claiming the territory, shooting another brotha and calling women in videos hos. This is just another rapper 50 cent wanna be who thinks calling out black leaders for attention. Just trying to outdo somebody else.
David please tell me when you get into trouble and your homies will rat and sell you out who are you going to turn to when the white man drags your behind to a jail. Who do you see Lil Kim and Foxy run to when they get in trouble.
You talk BS but you young rappers do not know how to handle the white man when you get in trouble. When you get your azz in trouble with the white man , all these people agreed with you will laugh and say you are ignorant and the other rappers will turn on you like they do each other. The only black people these white people get intimidated is by the black leaders. They have no fear of a ignorant rapper. Your name isn’t big as Jay-z or Diddy and you don’t have enough clout with these white folks to get bail your self out. These very black leaders will still be there to help bail you out. But being the ignorant nigga you are you will be too stupid to appreciate
Let me just say this, first off like someone else touched on, that’s not David Banner in that picture. Lol.
I notice that many people are asking, “What has David Banner done?” without checking to see what David Banner has done. To Bill’s credit, he asked the same rhetorical question and went out to find the anwser, post #124. I already knew that the brother was involved in many programs and sponsorships to help the black community so that was never an issue with me. As an aside, who says that you have to have your hand and your pockets in a million and one programs to have a right to question who, allegedly, is “leading the black community” any damn way? The issue that I have with some of the people who have said things against this man, David Banner, is that it seems as if it’s coming from a bourgeois perspective. I think it shows the level of the brother’s character that he has a college degree, which many black people value more than life itself, and he still has not forgotten about his community.
I think it’s worth examinig that many people on this thread assumed that he was not educated because he spoke out against this society. That’s why I say I measure mentalities, not words. Understand one thing as well; just because you don’t hear David Banner on every other song like you do that syruphead, Lil Wayne, doesn’t mean that the brother is not stackin’ paper. He has produced many hit records that people are probably not aware he has produced. In my honest opinion, the problems that the black community has are spiritual and societal issues, not economic. This is what Banner is touching on that his detractors don’t seem to understand.
Whether a person is ignorant or not has very little to do with their education. Some of the most ignorant and honestly, stupidest, people that I’ve ever met were college and graduate school graduates. Most of our black graduates come out of college enamored of the caucasian and have their mind set only on how they can improve his society and make money for him while getting a sizable cut for themselves. That’s why it seems to me that some of the furor against Banner is from a bourgeois stance. He’s a black male and a rapper that speaks against this society, so he’s obviously uneducated and stupid right? He must be disenchanted, unsuccessful, bitter, and broke right? This from “his own people”, many of whom would probably get DISMANTLED in a one-on-one debate with the brother by the way.
Hypothetically, if your belief is that “blacks need to do for self”, then what the hell does the black community need Al Sharptongue for in the first place? Lol, as a matter of fact, if your belief is that “blacks need to do for self”, then why champion voting for? The other races have arrived in America far after blacks, have surpassed blacks, and I never hear them asking each other who they’re going to vote for. They just continue to unify, create their own businesses, and generate their own revenue for their own communities. Furthermore in 27 years of life on this earth, living in NYC, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a homeless Asian man or East Indian man or African man for that matter. I’ve seen hundreds, if not thousands, of black and hispanic homeless people though. Those people of the other races recognize the importance of their culture and history, how it correlates to their success AS A RACE, and it encourages them to build each other up as opposed to tearing each other down. This is what alot of our people, in my opinion, don’t seem to grasp when they put forth their personal life philosophy that they act like is an actual “plan”.
Trying to get people to adopt your outlook on life is like trying to get them to make your favorite food, their favorite food. It’s fruitless. What some of you bourgeois, elitist negroes don’t understand is that any intelligent, clear-minded, ambitious INDIVIDUAL is going to succeed in any race. The topic at hand is the problems that we have as a RACE. This society is designed and aligned to protect certain races and destroy others. I think Hillary Clinton said it best when she brought out that whites that drop out of high school make more money than blacks that graduate. Mind you, she didn’t say, “whites that GRADUATE from high school make more money than blacks that gradute”. She said,”whites that DROP OUT of high school make more money than blacks who graduate.” I’m not really a stat man, but that was a staggering statistic. It basically shatters the negro’s hopes and dreams of societal equality through education.
Although, it may seem funny that R. Sharpton’s camp came back with their reply. It’s not. This is a Reverend- an ordian minister and your people basically released a statements calling the guy a homo. It’s tasteless- you’d think they would set an example and respond without the homosexuality references. It took away from their response because I kept thinking why would a Rev let that statement be release? David’s statement had so many curse words they could have turned it around and used it as a basis for their platform (against Hip-Hop; cursing, disrespect, etc) instead they just fell into a hole.
Brandy- no one knows how Brandy feels. No one if she’s just putting on a show or could care less. She could be thinking everyday about taking a life, it was an accident but she still caused it. Just because you see her for a couple of hours smiling or just because you see pictures of her partying at a club it doesn’t mean that she’s not thinking about the lady every day.
I can understand how it’s probably just hard for the widower to see because the pictures of her partying are in mags and on the internet.
@214 TIANNI
CAN YOU PICK A SIDE OF THE FENCE AND STAY THERE…..YOUR POST WAS ALL TYPES OF WRONG…YOU CONTRADICTED YOURSELF AT LEAST THREE TIMES…

HOW DO YOU KNOW HOW SHE FEELS? AND IN ALL FAIRNESS, THERE’S NO SPECIFIED TIME TO GRIEVE ANYTHING, DEPENDS ON THE PERSON, AND THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED LAST DECEMBER, HERE, IN 3 MORE MONTHS, IT WILL BE A YEAR SINCE THE ACCIDENT….I THINK SHE STAYED IN THE HOUSE AND OUT OF THE PUBLIC’S EYE AT LEAST A GOOD SIX MONTHS, ONLY SEEING HER IN THE RECENT TWO MONTHS, SO WHAT’S YOUR POINT….
AND ONCE AGAIN, ALL THE DETAILS OF THE CRASH HAS NOT BEEN RELEASED, AND MIGHT I ADD AGAIN, BRANDY HAS NOT BEEN CHARGED WITH ANY TYPE OF NEGLIGENCE, SO WHY ARE YOU BEING SO CRITICAL OF HER….

Sharpton has done more for mankind than a lot of his critics. Whatever you think about him, read up on his accomplishments. By the way, what has Mr. Banner done of note? No one ever said “our leaders” have to be perfect and beyond reproach. That is what keep decent, good well meaning people from running for office. Not many people can stand up to the criticisms and scrutiny. I am looking at his overall impact, not on an occasional misstep or misplaced comment. He is the total sum of his deeds, just like the rest of us Mr. Banner.
Mr. Macho wants to give his own autopsy result. A man is dead bro, wait til the report is final before you make pronouncements. You sound like the mine owner in Utah, who emphatically says that, the recent mine collapse was as a result of an earthquake.
This is an effort to influence a potential jury, in case the family wants to go after you for money.
I think that David Danner was right about everthing that he said in letter. I totally agree with everthing that he wrote. They can not blame rap music for the violence that is going on in our communtiy.
I know I am late and my last post was this past Friday but I just have to say, Poster # 165 (JA), what in Hell are you talking about? You DON’T KNOW what you are talking about, and I refuse to continue discussing this with you but before I go. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE read my posts # 146 and # 147. We are talking about two completely different cases. I got the last name wrong but I tried to make it clear it wasn’t the Jenarlo Wilson case where he is still in prison. And what I was referring to was the “rape victim” who Oprah interview for half and hour and she literally cried the entire time but never did a tear fall.
I’m done with you.
@ 205 Ja
You bolded in your response to me WE NEED TO BREAK THE CYCLE. How can we “BREAK THE CYCLE” if these negative behaviors are encouraged from our very own people who have had these same experiences?? You referenced my comments as excuses, but I’m not trying to be forgiven for any actions I have taken. I was giving a preceptive of what’s really going wrong with our communities. We have so many parents that don’t know how to be good parents and I gave examples of people raising our kids. Let me know how many of those you can pull to the side tactfully to teach them how to better raise their kids. No, television shouldn’t be raising our children, but the fact of the matter is that’s exactly what’s going on. Maybe not in your home or in the homes of others that want better lives, but if poor black Americans had the same luxuries as other households in America then we wouldn’t have the problems right?? Yeah you’re talking this “WE NEED TO BREAK THE CYCLE” but you stated “So you’re saying that because these people fail to provide Emotional support to their kids, someone else should change their way of life to make sure these kids are taking care of. That sounds like self pity and blame to me.” So what that says to me is that you don’t feel as an adult you are responsible for setting the right example for our underprivilaged youth. So are your really concerned about “BREAKING THE CYCLE” and if so where are your solutions?? You may not feel responsible for the young black youth, but being a young black woman who has desires of one day becoming a mom, I’m very concerned. Yeah I can raise my kids properly but they still will have to go into the world so I feel it’s my duty to make the world a better place for my kids and others I love.
By the way I didn’t miss the point from The Real Cookie. The point is artists are promoting ficitonal lifestyles for the sake of a dollar and at the same time promoting bad behaviors in our communities. You missed my points and I don’t know if you’ll get them. I’m very firm in my stance. I’m not here to blame anyone for the circumstances and if so please believe that it would not be the artists but our government that has done everything in it’s power to ensure that black America will be a permanant underclass and until “so-called” educated blacks take a stance that’s exactly where we are headed. Our mentalities are so corrupted that we will take a stance for what’s wrong and think we are right, but you know your mind can only fathom the things that have been thought.
