THE WEEKEND ROUND UP: NAS NOT WELCOMED AT VA TECH | RIHANNA GOT A NEW MAN | EDDIE RELEASES A STATEMENT | ROBIN ROBERTS FINE AFTER SURGERY

Sunday, August 5, 2007

nas.jpg

The parents of seven victims of the deadly massacre at Virginia Tech are outraged over a scheduled appearance by Nas at a concert intended to uplift spirits on the devastated college campus.

According to the Washington Post, the group of parents, who are being represented by security expert Vincent J. Bove, feel Nas’ violent lyrics conflict with the message of peace that the concert is meant to communicate.

Despite the families’ concern, University officials say they’ve received nothing but positive response since they announced the concert’s line-up recently and have no plans to change it.

In addition to Nas, the Dave Matthews Band and John Mayer are also confirmed to perform.

RIHANNA GOT A NEW MAN?

rihannman.jpg

PICS SPOTTED @ [SANDRA ROSE]

You’ve already seen the candid shots of Rihanna sporting her new crutches last week, but you haven’t seen the ones with her talking to this cutie at The Grove in L.A. on the same day. One can only wonder if that’s her new boyfriend, I wonder if Jay-Z approves..

EDDIE MURPHY SAYS ANGEL WASN’T PLANNED

eddie_mel.jpg

Eddie Murphy is running his mouth again. In a statement released by his rep on Friday he denies planning Mel B’s pregnancy and said he has already starting paying child support.

“Eddie Murphy always has and will continue to honor his responsibilities as a father. Mr. Murphy and Ms. Brown dated very briefly and never made any plans of ANY sort. He acknowledges paternity of the child Angel, and has paid child support to Ms. Brown as well as covering the expenses of her pregnancy. Mr. Murphy views this as a private matter and as such, will not be making any further comments about it.” [SOURCE]

Mel B told told Essence.com last month that “this was a completely planned pregnancy.”

ROBIN ROBERTS SAID TO BE DOING FINE

rroberts.jpg

ABC News ‘Good Morning America’ co-anchor Robin Roberts is home resting after undergoing surgery for breast cancer August 3. Her spokesman said the operation was ‘very successful’ and the prognosis is very good. Test following surgery generally take some time to process. The results will determine the course of treatment that Roberts will undergo.

Another hypocrisy of America. It was actually an Asian boy who shot and killed those people, but they hate black rappers. I bet they also blame that on hip hop!

Man I dont beleive a damn word that comes from Eddies mouth. Rather or not Angel was planned it was still fucked up of him to deny her n put Mel B thru hell. And for the record child support iz all good but that baby deserves quality time the most but I betcha he wont even do that….pathetic

Who cares bout who Rihanna messes wit everybody knoz she’s Jay-z sideline ho any ways

That whole Nas situation iz crazy…..but my prayers still go out to all the victims n loves onez of the tradegy tho

Eddie needs to watch his freaking mouth cause when Baby Angel is older and reads all this crap, it’s gonna hurt. Who cares if he’s paying child support and covering her expenses, he needs to spend quality father-daughter time with his baby.

Rihanna’s man looks GOOD.

That sucks for Nas, but I really didn’t think he was a “violent” rapper.

I wish Robin luck.

I find it very funny that Eddie view this as a personal matter. If thats the case when he went on television and was asked about being the possible father of Mel’s child he had no problem trying to embarass Mel saying ” I dont know who the father is” . He could have easily said at that point on television that its a personal matter .Now its personal because he looks foolish . That’s a bunch of Bs if it was personal he would have never opened his mouth and she wouldn’t be vengeful .Obviously the child was “planned” if not, you would have worn a condom. Eddie is full of shit !

Im glad to hear that Robin. You were in my prayers.

Well, I can understand the parents concern. It’s not about the actual shooter being black or asian. I mean Nas has a song called Shoot em UP and Got yourself a gun, to name a few, that perpetuates gun violence. Let’s be real, a lot of rappers glorify gun violence. Now, I’m sure he is smart enough to no actually sing those songs at the concert, but still…

i wish rihanna would take that weave off and burn it … and as far as eddies ‘comment’ if he went up in her raw then he did in affect ‘plan’ to have a baby … come on now, he ain’t 14 … sperm + egg = baby

Rihanna - maybe that is her bf and technically it’s not a NEW man cuz u act as if she was linked (AND CONFIRMED) to any other man b4… but maybe this will take ppl off her and Jay-Z altho i believe nuthin happened

Nas - now thats fucked up… blamin hip hop for the reason for those kids dying. 1) it wuz an asian dude , 2) he got the idea from MOVIES not music… get it str8 bitches that blame hip hop…. Chamillionaire wuz so right when he said that in his song “Evening News”

Eddie - idc

Robin - i’m happy she’s doing well

Eddie know he is dead wrong. I cant believe Tracey is standing by him. If he’d treat Mel B like that, publicly, and not even flinch, then what makes her think he’d do her any differently. It’s obvious that he does not respect women.

The pics with RiRi don’t show anything other than her sitting next to a guy. There’s no proof of ANYTHING in that pic. As fine as he is, it doesn’t even look like she knows he’s there.

Prayers go out to Robyn. Glad she’s ok

Sorry Nas is taking the heat like that. Ignorance is a mutha…

NAS - I really don’t see why the parents are making such a big deal about NAS… With all due respect [RIP to the ones who were killed in the massacre] but it wasn’t NAS’ fault? Let the man perform for God’s sake!

Eddie & Mel - Wooooooooooo…. I think Eddie was just in it to get some since him and his wife weren’t together… And I think Mel got played but in the end she’s gettin paid…

Rihanna - It’s about damn time we’ve seen her with someone. He’s cute! As long as she she doesn’t play the ‘USHER’ role then she’s good!

Robin R - GET WELL SOON!!!!!!!!!

r u serious? nas is one of the most positive emcees in the game. sometimes a little raw, but real nonetheless. some of my favorite joints by him are the ones that uplift (if i ruled the world, one mic, i can,).

9 outta 10 times, No, 10 outta 10 times, those who are protesting have never even bothered to give the man a listen but are rather profiling & prejudging him as just another “hip-hop artist.” The same reason Twista is no longer on the McDonald’s tour. This is some ludacris/pepsi -ish

#1 I wish Robyn Roberts well in her recovery from surgery.
#2 I dont know what type of plan Eddie and Mel B had but not usng protection to insure that a pregnancy wont occur is like planning to have a baby in my opinion. You know the chances you take. She did sound a bi delussional in her talk of a planned marriage etc etc with Eddie Murphey but then again so,eone had to be feeding her that bullshyt. I wonder if they made them plans under the sheets while in heat of passion or outside the bedroom, lol.Yall know a mofo will say anything when he tryign to buss a nit! lolJoking but uhm not really! He may have not planned for a baby but he better plan to pay because “YOU IS DA DADDY” !
#3 Nas situation? Some peopel have to have someoen to blame. I wonder of those parents ever even listened to a Nas record .song or if they are getting their info from someone else . I know hes not a saint and he has had some rough lyrics but banning him why? I know he isnt planning on performing any rough material at the school.
#4 How do all know that Rihanna is DATING THE ABOVE GUY?LOL He could just be a friend or associate.Furthermore they dont even look liek they are sittign together in that pic !

yea i agree with the previous comments on eddie, im on the fence with child support only cause i hate to see kids have false hope of a deadbeat parent, everything he’s saying about his daughter will come back on him when she says,” I hate you.” or she becomes embarrassed of the whole thing and/or him.He needs to spend time with her no matter what, money cant replace a father, right now all he is to her is a financial investor or atm or something of that nature(IF he is spending money on her), im only concerned about this cause my father fought for me, there was a time in my life where i didnt see my parents but one strayed and well my father did the most important thing, he was there for me and it paid off big time, mother threw money at me here and there, made me feel like a cheap ho

Sunday, August 5, 2007 /

Damn! Some people always trying to turn this into a racial issue. It has nothing to do with Nas being black, and nobody is trying to “blame” him. Geez, some of y’all really need to pick up a newspaper sometimes.

Let’s be real here, I agree with #8. A lot of Hip Hop Artists glorify gun violence. Point blank period. Like it or not. It doesn’t take genius to figure it out–gun violence is more often praised and glorified than it is condemned in Hip Hop music. It’s plain to see why parents wouldn’t want that represented at a concert that’s meant to mourn the victims of one of the deadliest massacres of recent times. And though he isn’t as big on it, Nas is STILL no exception to the rule. He’s got plenty of uplifting songs, sure, but he’s also got plenty of Negative songs, too.

I’m glad he’s still performing, but I hope that this outcry sends a message to him to leave “Got Yourself a Gun” at home.

48.

Lisa

Sunday, August 5, 2007 /

I agree, with you Pittboi, a lot of times Minorities are the ones doing the protesting. For example, when 50 cent’s movie came out people complained about the movie posters with him having a gun and all ( MOST OF THOSE PEOPLE WERE BLACK).

49.

floridag

Sunday, August 5, 2007 /

50.

Sharonda

Sunday, August 5, 2007 /

Nobody said they were all white.Facts is facts.

But if you really listen to music, there is a message in everything.Like some people don’t understand M.I.A in the other and she has (and I like M.I.A.) a message in her music. She is no different from Nas who has also rapped about his life and wrote uplifting music. But I assume since he is a rapper he is no better.People don’t even listen to the words anymore. They don’t even see the positive side of things, or people. They always look for the negative.People need to listen to words and stop thinking hard on the titles. And not all rappers do things you see now.If they so worried about Nas, they should for the others.I’m just saying.

51.

Lisa

Sunday, August 5, 2007 /

My point is what does the racial makeup of the victims have to do with anything, they were White, Black Latino and Asian victims.

The problem is that a lot of people as always were bringing race into this, I’m pretty sure if Will Smith was the rapper of choice noone would be protesting. Dave Mathews Band nor John Mayer have violent music. So what does M.I.A. have to do with this, she’s not going to be there?

I know plenty of Older Blacks that hate hip hop, and would very well protest Nas also.

Regardless of what race the victims were, it is sad that they lost their life to gun violence.

52.

Nas has no business trying to appear at any benefit regarding the Virginia Tech “massacre”. He has more pertinent things to write about and put his energy behind. I don’t understand why he thought that he would be welcome. To hell with them. There are massacres going on in the black community that he should be concerned with, that he usually is concerned with. That’s what makes him stand out in this day and age of massive stupidity in hip hop.

I dont know if this is a racial situation. It could be but nowadays, a negro has to have video footage of whites in sheets for people, particularly house negroes, to acknowledge that it’s racism so that’s probably irrelevant. The real racism was the racism encountered by that asian student throughout his tenure at that institution and in his scholastic experience overall in America. Though Nas does have songs based in the reality of the black community, I doubt that any of those parents heard any of those songs. I think just them hearing a “rapper” will be at the event was enough to set them off, lol. If the parents want to put themselves behind something, let them put themselves behind stopping the institutionalized racism that made that Asian man lose his damn mind. These other races can’t put up with racism like black people can. The parents are certainly not going to try to lobby Congress for gun control laws because Christ will crack the sky open before the powers that be tell “Jeb” from Arkansas that he can’t tote his winchester.

Good for Eddie if he is committing himself to his child. This entire situation has turned into a 3-ring circus based on the fact that he had unprotected sex with this woman. He has no one but himself to blame for that aspect. Everything else he has handled as he was supposed to handle it. I don’t believe that this woman is irate because of the child. She is irate because she was planning to lock him down and she wasn’t able to. From the time that the paternity was announced, I’ve never seen or heard the brother go into the media to besmirch the character of this chic. Big deal, he said “we don’t know who the father is”. Maybe he said that because he didn’t know who the father was, lol. I’m sure that he has dirt on her. Like I’ve said before; he needs to use his resources, take this woman to court and rake her over the coals, if what he is alleging is true.

This is what I think went down. Her trifling ass was claiming to be on birth control, so he started hitting it raw. She waited a couple of months into the pregnacy to tell him she was pregnant( like most females do, when their trying to trap a man). He got mad that she lied to him, and he played her on national t.v( hoping this would make her get an abortion). She( like most desperate females) refused to let him go, hoping that once the child was born he’ll come back to her. He started dating Tracy…and the more she proclaimed her love and how Eddie dogged her, the more it made Eddie despise her and commit to Tracy. Mel started becoming headline news and though claiming to be a private person… tells anyone willing to listen about her and Eddies relationship. Eddie once finding out that the child was his, didn’t want to appear to be a dead beat father made a statement claiming responsibility for the child. Mel continues to date a man she doesn’t really want to be with hoping to get Eddie back. Eddie wants nothing to do with her, because she trifling and planned this iisshh fom the jump to trap him.

Rhianna needs to get rid of that hair style…I doubt that’s her man, look how far apart their sitting from each other.

Pittboi and florida, It has everything to do with race. I don’t know what rock y’all live under, but hip hop isn’t the only thing in entertainment that glorify guns and violence. Lisa, there are plenty of Black people specifically on this site who are racists and homophobic, might I add, it’s a shame that someone would say to hell with people who got murdered.

The problem with Black people is that they think all Black people are the same and should be the same. It’s ignorant to think that way and hard to believe that there is diversity within the Black community.

Now I agree, if this was a movie showing or a book reading it would be different, but we are talking about a musical concert.

My parents, who are Black would be protesting Nas too, they think Rap music is violent etc. My grandparents would protest the Blues because they think it is too sexualized. I guess some people just are too ignorant to understand that.

Many of the people , I personally know, who are against rap music are Black.

I didn’t say to hell with the people who got shot. I said to hell with the parents that don’t want him there. Why should he want to be somewhere that he’s not wanted? Not for nothing, but since you touched on it, I’m not particularly concerned with the “massacre” in the least. Things are going to happen in the last days that are going to make you forget the “Virginia Tech massacre”, straight up. The world is “messed up” because there are so many simple people who can’t handle honesty. How many people that voice their “condolences” do you think are truly concerned with that person’s loss? I mean please. That whole Hurricane Katrina episode should have shown black people that no one is concerned with what happens to the black community.

Check yourself. We’re talking about a news blurb about parents of victims of the Virginia Tech Massacre not wanting Nas there because some of his songs contain violent content. In no way was this an exposition on the origins of modern violence. Nas has a lot of violent songs, it is for that reason that some concerned parents didn’t want him there. Point blank. A lot of Hip Hop music today is very violent, for the sake of this specific topic it doesn’t matter where it originated from (and for your information I’ll agree that there a lot of violence to be found in other sources, but until somebody tries to screen The Godfather at this concert they’re of no relation to the topic at hand. This is a concert, we’re talking “music”).

I also love how you didn’t even attempt to explain how this subject has “everything to do with race.” You just expect me to believe that because you say so? Back yourself up, buddy.

Judah, you don’t give a damn about the Virgina Tech Massacre?? You do realize that there are many Black students that attend that school and college period. This could’ve happened ANYWHERE. I give a damn because I am a college student and this could happen to me. I have people in Jail too, but I also have people in College and I would feel bad if anything happened to ANY of them. It seems like you think that ONLY whites go to college?? I hope you do not believe that. When death comes it doesn’t matter what race you are or who you are

And Judah, even I have to agree with Jasmine about you being way out of line. Death occurs everywhere, yeah, but this wasn’t just some white tragedy. Kids of many races (including black students), lost their lives that day. Just because violence is happening elsewhere all the time doesn’t mean people can’t mourn for that.

I agree with Lisa, this could’ve happened anywhere, so I do give a damn. That’s like me saying I don’t give a damn about the Hurrican Katrina victims because I didn’t know any of them personally. I would NEVER say a thing like that, because Karma is a bitch . It seems like Judah is trying to deflect from the TOPIC at Hand and bring up other issues. Yes , I feel bad for innocent people who go to jail and Black on Black cirme, White on Black crime etc ( I also feel sorry for the girl that R.Kelly Raped, whihc was a BLACK GIRL BTW ). IF I’m not mistaken the Topic was about Nas and the Virginia Tech incident. I don’t feel that Nas would be disrespectful , unlike some, but I can understand why people don’t want him there.

I also agree that I only know Black people that are against Hip Hop , I have never personally met a White person or any other race who was. My father is VERY against Hip hop.

Rihanna… say it ain’t so boo! SAY IT AIN”T SOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! :frown:
Eddie…. get it together, mayne! Get it together.
The VA Tech/Nas dilemma… I think that the parents are overreacting, but hip-hop has taken a dive from being political and informative, and also a way of life, to being commercilaized and violent.

God bless Robyn.
