SEASON 2 OF SOUL FOOD THE SERIES OUT TOMORROW

[ CLICK HERE TO PURCHASE ]

The long-awaited second season of Soul Food is set to hit stores tomorrow (8/7). Here is the summary from amazon.com:

Picking up where the first season left off, the Joseph sisters–fiery Maxine (Vanessa Williams, formerly of Melrose Place), controlling yet vulnerable Teri (Nicole Ari Parker, Remember the Titans), and the baby of the family, Bird (Malinda Williams, Daddy’s Little Girls)–cope with the wake of a car crash that has left Maxine’s husband Kenny (Rockmond Dunbar, Prison Break) in the hospital, while Bird’s ex-con husband Lem (Darrin Dewitt Henson, Stomp the Yard) blames Teri’s boyfriend Damon (Boris Kodjoe, Brown Sugar) for causing the accident. From there, the series settles into its turbulent groove: Kenny finds himself drawn to his secretary at the towing company; Teri fights to be made partner at her law firm; Bird and Lem fight over the significance of visiting a strip club; Maxine gets into local politics; Lem’s store burns down and Lem is accused of arson; Teri suffers from worsening panic attacks; and Kenny and Maxine’s son Ahmad (Image award-winner Aaron Meeks) wrestles with school, adolescence, and the fallibility of his parents. The recurring theme, of course, is family obligations–what siblings owe to each other, what parents owe to their children (and children to their parents, as Kenny and Lem each struggle to make peace with their flawed forbears), what husbands and wives owe to each other. The commitment to these characters’ interconnectedness, explored with sincerity and care by the solid cast, is what makes Soul Food more than just a depiction of middle-class life.

If you miss the show as much as me, than you already know that this is a MUST BUY!

In related news, BET J has been airing old episodes of Soul Food: The Series for months now. Make sure you tune in Mondays thru Fridays @ 11pm EST.

It’s about time. I remember reading that they didn’t want to release the other seasons because the sales were low for Season one but everywhere I looked, it was around a hundred bucks for the set. Even though I loved the show I wasn’t about to spend that kind of money. I hope season 2 isn’t as expensive I would like to buy it.

It’s about damn time! I’m still pissed that it took them this long. It was the best drama series on Showtime for 5 years straight. They should’ve popped the dvds out back to back like they do all the other Showtime series. I guess we need to start writing the asses now to get season 3 out in a timely manner.

For those of you who slept on this show, I encourage you to purchase the first season on dvd first. I bet you will have a change of heart & will want to buy the second & the following seasons before they are even available. If you like drama that is grown & sexy that features people like you & I in real situations check it out.

I always have my plate of “Soul Food”. I have programmed my DVR to record the show when BET and BET-J airs it. I really wish the show was a current series! I wonder why it’s taken so long for the subsequent season(s) to be released. Anyway glad it happening…cause I know I can’t get enough “Soul Food”!

Totally agree with #25’s comment! I would stop everything when the show was on Showtime! I made sure the children were settled(bathed, feed) and I had my phone(s) ringer off ……every Wednesday at 10:00. I wasn’t have anything stop me from seeing Soul Food!

yes # 39 amy is it…. When it comes to soul food a good black show that just like everything else we have got taken away they never said the real reason I just heard them say they wanted to leave the show on a high note and not wait until it stop being watched Nicole ari Parker was on 106park talking wit hubby about that I don’t buy it though I have been looking for the seasons forever and I’m glad they came out with it and just like those goofy ass white shows I hope they put all the seasons I out because trust someone will but them! I still watch the re-runs on bet jazz and wish it wasn’t so censored! that’s one of the reasons why I’m so happy it’s on dvd.

I love soul food and when I watch it on BETJ I get made all over again about the show being canceled. I somewhat blame BET because the show was doing great before they start airing it on their channel. Well to put it short of course I will be getting that a-sap

OK. So I am trying to find out who has all the seasons because I can’t wait another 5 years to see the next one come out. I know my sister used to record them but her DVR got damaged so she no longer has all the episodes. I am half way through season 2 already and I just got it on Wednesday. Watching it on BET is NOT the same. I do not like the commercials and I would rather see it in its original form. It has actually disrupted my life in the sense that I have neglected some work because I was so caught up watching Season 2. LOL. I am sure I will be finished with it this week and feening for the next 3 seasons. :-(

We need to write Paramount and CBS home video!!

I can not understand why all of the seasons are put out at one time. Soul Food is off of Showtime, which means that the episodes on BET are edited. We need to find out how we can go about getting all episodes.

I absolutely love this series, I own both Season 1 & 2 and can’t wait to own the rest. I hope they do a reunion show or soul food family reunion movie…..somebody hear my cry

DCGIRL

Sunday, September 23, 2007 /

Greetings,
I have read the many comments and am a proud owner of the Soul Food 1&2 series on DVD. Now I know some of you weren’t feelin’ the show for whatever reasons but ask yourself this question. “What would make me give my support for this show”. Some shows that have showcased black actors have degraded us to silly, dancing, singing, minstrel slaves. We’ve had very few shows on TV that actually show us having a family and working together. That was the spirit of the movie and that was the spirit of the tv show. If we don’t support these type of shows, we will not have them to even have an opinion on in the future. So if you’re not feelin’ it perfect; give it as a gift to someone who will and let’s support shows that have good actors, good plots, and family themes.

God Bless you all!

This show was powerful in its flawless portrayal of the BLACK FAMILY; i am very proud to say that i now own all four seasons; i feel that the AMAZING performerz displayed an accurate depiction of our lifestyle,,,,what distinguishes this dramatic series from all of the others is that this show had a “PULSE”,,,
