THE NEW MUSIC REVIEW

Nicole Scherzinger feat. Will.I.Am – Baby Love (full) – listen
Apparently, Ms. Scherzinger wants to go for the pop mid-tempo “Baby Love” for the second single as oppose to “Super Villain” for her upcoming album, Her Name Is Nicole. I don’t think either of them are a good follow-up single for “Whatever You Like.” At first, I was a little shaky about this song because the vocals towards the beginning of the track. But as you get deeper into the song, you can definitely see where it’s going. Although the song was produced by Will.I.Am, famed Black Eyed Peas member, this song has a very Stargate & Ne-Yo (think “Irreplaceable” & Rihanna’s “Good Girl Gone Bad”) feel. Still, I don’t know how I feel about this being single number 2.

Fabolous feat. T-Pain & Jermaine Dupri – Baby Don’t Go (full) – listen
Fabolous is doing really great with the single choices from his latest album, From Nothin’ to Somethin’. He’s always done a great job, to me, at picking singles. I’m not even mad at the T-Pain feature. As I’ve mentioned before in new music reviews, Fabolous is always great at choosing the biggest and hippest artists feature on his tracks. He doesn’t every steer too far from what’s hot for his album features. “Baby Don’t Go” is Fabolous’s third single. He’s having a great run. Don’t forget to check out Angel’s Exclusive Interview with him, if you haven’t already.

Sterling Simms – Give Me A Chance (full) – listen
I have a love/hate relationship with Sterling Simms. Meaning sometimes I love his material, and sometimes I absolutely hate it. However, with “Give Me A Chance,” I was drawn to the production of it, and then the vocal arrangement. Even though Sterling’s voice isn’t one that’s extra impressive, I have to admit that contemporary material like this that he has makes my excitement come back around for his project. Even though it’s nothing ground-breaking, and very different, I can respect what Sterling is doing. He’s been on his grind for quite a while.

J. Holiday feat. Jermaine Dupri – Bed (SoSoDef Remix) (full) – listen
Not sure how many remixes of this song can be made, but there have been several. Even though J. Holiday has put out one of the sexiest songs of the summer, I’m a little afraid for his project. Back of My Lac, due out October 2, hasn’t really shown me anything that I’ve been too fond of, besides “Bed” and one other doo-whoop-ish song that I kind of liked. But anyways, I don’t know how many remixes this song can have. There have been so many! It’s just so funny hearing JD on it, ’cause all I can think about is Janet. Ha.

  4. one tree hill

I like sterling song I definetly gonna give this song a chance!

  5. Lashonda's Secret.

Concrete come on! At least make it a little less obvious when the record label is sliding you some cash to hype the artist.

  6. one tree hill

OMG! That t-pain shit is gettin annoyin now.

  7. Dame

Love Fab he is doing his thang. They need to leave Bed alone he killed it on 106 he sounded better than the recorded version

  8. Khinje

Being from the south, I must say that radio down here isn’t very Fab friendly, they are just now getting hip to ” You Make Me Better” . However I am a huge fan – his album was slept on in my opinion. “Baby Don’t Go” is one of my faves!
If you haven’t copped yet, you’re missing out.

BOOOO to the rest of ‘em…

  9. I love BED!!! but all other j holiday songs i heard are just ok ..

  10. why every time there’s a nice r&b song that become a hit. A damn rapper/producer always wanna rap on it???? please just let them sing the song. JD’s rap messes up the mood.

  11. I like the other bed song better…..Nicole ?????um um not comment..lol
Fab I love that song it’s nice … Tpain …WOW …thats all i have to say about that…lol

    Sterling’s song is ok

  12. Baby Love was nice.

Fabolous track goes hard! i ain’t mad at T-Pain either.

Sterling Simms wasn’t really nothing special, but he’s a cutie. :)

No matter how many remixes “Bed” is gonna have, it’s still a great song.

  13. That fab track aint all of that mainly because jd’s ball headed ass is rappin on it……I love tpain and his voice box lol

  15. oops *brian my bad on the misspell

  16. Rotem

Why does the Fab song sound so weird, but I been done with T-pain since the first bar/stripper song I heard from him. And for J.Holiday, I never liked Bed because it was toooo damn annoying, but i know the song wasnt for me, so i dont have to like it. That Nicole song is BORING and it sounds horrible.

  17. Sterling sounds like Bobby Valentino to me. Nicole needs to go back to PCD.

  18. Baby Luv – Its sweet and slow, but I think it would of been better if Will.i.am stepped aside on this song..

Baby Do Go – lol its okay, its nothing special bout it but its alrite, theres loada going on in the song tho, so I reckon its gonna get annoying for me later on lol

Give Me A Chance – Its alrite…I usually cant really get into these sorta songs tho..

Bed remix – Aww this song is sooooo sweet!!! lol JD going bed….bed….bed lol

  19. Leila

Number 7 “Concrete come on! At least make it a little less obvious when the record label is sliding you some cash to hype the artist.” lol There aint any other hot songs to hype so it doesnt matter, they are all good songs.

  20. Jayjay

Nicole’s new song is WACK to the ACK!!! that’s shit is so flat…. she better not choose it as the 2nd single if she doesnt want her album to flop… SUPER VILAIN is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy betta

    she gotta think about it!!

  21. KI KI

I’M A FABOLOUS FAN SO OF COURSE I LIKED HIS JOINT !!!!!!!!!!

I THINK NICOLE SHOULD HAVE JUST STAYED WITH THE PCD!!!!!!!!!!!

STERLING SIMMS AND J HOLIDAY NOT FELLING THESE CATS MAYBE IF I LISTEN A COUPLE OF MORE TIMES MAYBE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  22. the bed song never grew on me…. 4 some odd reason. but i like the song wit fab and my nigga t-pain… everybody thought he was gonna be a 1-hit wonder with the im in love with a stripper… MY NIGGA GOT STAYIN POWER!

  23. C.Rogers

What’s going on with the Fab song, thats not the album version, they messed it up!!!

  24. CAFFALLI

T-Pain aint shit without his voice machine.

  25. T-Pain’s 15 minutes of fame was up 3 hours ago!

Time to hang up the mic and the voice box.

  26. Miss Erin

    That Fabolous song goes hard!!

And I like most of the J. Holiday songs that I’ve heard especially Never Had It and Fatal, and he performed well on 106 & Park….

…Brian…here’s some critical criticism for your music reviews…please don’t take offense…you provide great info to your readers about the music scene which is a definite plus…but sometimes your writing style really grates…here’s the thing: PLEASE TAKE THE WORD “I” OUT OF YOUR SCRIPT WHEN WRITING MUSIC CRITIQUE…! It’s already a known fact who wrote the review, and when you are continuely, “I this,” and ” I that,” throughtout the text the review doesn’t sound like it’s as much about the music or the artist but instead about YOU, which then tends to distract the reader from the points you are trying to bring across about the music in the first place…while more than likely not purposeful on your part, here’s hoping you will take this comment in the context it was given and consider the suggestion…your reviews would be even more effective as the reader would then feel freer to draw their own conclusions about what you’ve written instead of thinking that all you are doing is stating how you feel which they may not even care about (although i’m sure you are a nice person…)

  29. JAVA

Baby Love…..is weak, poor Nicole she’s talented but this album has no hope
Baby Don’t Go……Is alright kinda tired of t-pain but it’s a cool song
Give Me A Chance…..A cute R&B song i like it

  30. reny

at first, I didn’t like Baby Love, but now it grew on me. It’s alright. So is Give Me a Chance.
    I loveee Baby Don’t Go & Bed.

  31. Aisha

ummm I don’t like any of the songs.

You should do a mash up of Joe and Carrie Underwood Pepsi Smash had Joe singing Before He Cheats,

  32. That was my question Brian. I guess one more if I haven’t missed it Diddy’s remix is next. Take that……. I could be wrong. But I am feeling JD’s rap.
    Fabolous I like.
Scare to listen to Nicole’s so I have no comment……yet.

See, same review, slightly different delivery…since it’s suppoed to be about the music and the artist anyway and not YOU, take “I” out and that fact comes across MUCH better and more effectively…if you really are concerned with getting the music arcoss, more than ego, that is how to show it…

  34. bvarney

i have seen Nicole in concert once and she had amazing vocals and her range was awesome!!! but hearing her new songs i think to myself why is she not showing that off and you cant go from whatever u want to that baby love song thats to much of a change. well thats my opion but i do wish her the best of luck

  35. Lihara

didnt any1 hear that song China Wine by SUN..lol

  36. Aisha

#35 I agree, BUT music is subjective so how can it be about facts, it’s more about opinions.

First of all, let me just let you all in on little something about T-Pain, then maybe you will gain a little more respect for him and his sound. T-Pain is from Tallahassee, Florida (as he proudlly proclaims in many of songs). Home of Florida A&M University (FAMU), one of the top HBCUs in the country…that would be Historically Black Colleges and University’s and Florida State University (FSU). He and the group that he is apart of called the “Nappy Heads” (10 + years and counting) are very popular in our city. It took him some time to get to where he is now but once Akon gave him that golden opportunity, his career skyrocketed…vowing to never forget about his homies, his hood and his city…and he has made good on all of the above…continuously.

He visits Tallahassee aka T-Town, Leon County, the 8-5-0 frequently and each time he comes, he gives something back. Here’s a quick run down…(1) the 1st event he held for the neighborhood community center, the Mayor gave him the “key to the city”..that’s right T-Pain has a key to the Capital City of Florida and trust me certain people were not pleased about it…you why, because of image–the dark-skinned brother with gold teeth and dreadlocks–sounds stereotypical to me; (2) he continues to host drives for and donates to low-socioeconomical families and around his community; (3) he just had a “sell-out” concert (which included Plies, Huey, Trick Daddy, E-40, Bow Wow, Bobby Valentino, Akon, Kanye West, Twista, DJ Unk, DJ Khaled, the Nappy Heads, Mike Jones, Chris Brown, R. Kelly was supposed to be there, but didn’t make it, and many more artists just can’t recall them (all whom he has made appearances on their albums) and you know what was even more magnificent about the concert, all of the artists performed for free! Some of whom flew in the same day or stopped thru on the way to other concerts or projects and left after their performances, but they made appearances anyway because they knew how he felt about his city and that it was for a great cause because “ALL” proceeds from the concert were donated to the Walker Ford Community Center. He made it happened for his city and his fans. As matter of fact, he was so overwhelmed by the response that he couldn’t finish the last song because he “cried.” He just kept telling us how much he loved us and that he did this for us because we made him who is. There just as many caucasians in the audience as well. Ticket prices ranged from $16-$40, well worth it! (4) on top of all of that he is the ultimate family man, being married with two children.

Now my problem with the comments I continue see about “T-Pain” on this site is that you all should at least be happy that another “brother” has actually made it and is doing something positive. Know who your hatin’ on before you go judging commenting.

U all don’t have to like him or his unique sound, but you gotta respect his grind and his commitment. KEEP DOIN’ YOUR THANG T-PAIN and shake them bandwagon haters off! I wish you MUCH, MUCH MORE SUCCESS because you keep giving back in return!

  41. Nicole’s song is horrible…”LALALALA” ohhhh NOO!!! lol lol lol ….

I like Fabolous song its cool.

I am tired of all the BED remixes they need to let it go.

Umm I have never heard of Sterling Simms before but I like his lyrics and music but that’s about it (he really doesn’t have that strong of a singing voice).

  42. I agree with you #42 I’m a T-pain fan i love all of his songs that he has come out with and i think he’s very unique in his own special way.

  43. Lea Lea

@yeaisaidit. brian says I because it’s his opinion and not a fact; it’s not like he’s a real music critic he’s just giving his opinion.

  44. Hallie

    WTF @ 44′s avatar… Sistah please don’t personify stereotypes.

  45. i love the fabolous song. been bumpin it 4 a while tho. i didn’t kno it was the third single. wat was his second???

  46. I’ve heard 2 other remixes to bed and like this one too…………………..I got Fabolous album so already heard that song………….love some sterling simms mmmm but why post Nicole’s music? She makes my ears bleed.

  47. theres a chingy & nina sky remix to bed. its okay. i like the JD one better tho. & about nicole, ugh i cant stand her. she’s beautiful, yes she is BUT i dont like her style in the songs i’ve heard from her. i can never get into any of nicole’s songs. but pussycat dolls as a group was better than her going solo.

  48. no wait lemme change that. i like the chingy remix better.i just listened to it again

  49. Jashawn

Love that Nicole Scherzinger joint. It’s awesome. You know it.

For those that be hatin’, it’s too pop-ish sound for y’all taste. Y’all rather bump bullshits like that Pop & Lock crap by that whack n***** Huey or that Ay Bay Bay crap by that mentally retarded whack n***** Hurricane or whatever his whack ass name is. Real Talk.

  50. FABOLOUS JOINT IS FIRE I’VE BEEN BUMPING THAT FOR A WHILE NOW

  51. Ladee hyper

Damn, i love nicole’s song. It’s so sweet.

  52. That Fab song is fire.

I like Nicole, but, after listening to the beginning of that song for 15 seconds, I had to cut it off.

I was never a fan of that bed song, but I’m glad, JHoliday is doing well.

  53. LOVE THE FABOLOUS JOINT, THE MAN IS SICK.

THE NICOLE JOINT I’M FEELING. I LIKE IT BETTER THAN SUPER VILLIAN, THE SONG MAKES ME FEEL PEACEFUL. THE SONG IS SURE TO DO BIG THINGS ON THE POP CHARTS!

BED DIDN’T LISTEN TO IT CAUSE I’M SO IN LOVE WITH THE ORIGNAL VERSION. I SAW J. HOLIDAY ON 106, THE DUDE CAN PERFORM. HOWEVER HE DOESN’T LOOK THE SAME WAY ON TV AS HE DOES IN PICTURES. (WOW THAT’S STRANGE)

STERLING IS THE ONLY ONE I’M NOT REALLY FEELING , BUT HE CAN DEF SING. MAYBE IT’LL GROW ON ME

  54. Babycheif_fl

Baby Love is a Sweet song all the little girls will love.

And lets not forget that Nicole did come from a POP/R&B background.

  55. angel

Nicole sounds horrible, it doesn’t matter who you put her with. She can’t sing for shit. go back to pcd.

  56. Shinique

I’m excited about Nicole’s album, but I doubt that song will ever grow on me.

    Fab’z alwayz tiiiight.

    I like that Sterling joint.

I don’t know what to say about the Bed “remix” …hmm. I still love the song.

  57. Daryl

i love all of them especially Nicole & Fabo… do yall thing, stay on ya grind everyone
