THE NEW MUSIC REVIEW

Keyshia Cole – Shoulda Let You Go (full) – listen
Even though we posted this in the Hot or Not section of our site, I’m posting this again because that was a radio rip, and this is a CD quality version of the song. It has actually grown on me a lot, since listening to it a couple of times. I still want Keyshia to find some versatility with her topics. I think that this new album, Just Like You is going to be a good look for her, though. I’m pretty excited to hear the rest of the material, considering the people she’s working with.

Razah – Rain (full) – listen
We did another Hot or Not post about this young man not too long ago, with his single, featuring Rihanna. Even though I wasn’t digging it, I think I like this song a little better. There’s nothing spectacular about his voice or even the production, it’s nothing to write home about. But I don’t hate it. It’s nice a background music for something. Just not something I’m jumping out of my seat about. I’m glad he’s got other material coming out though.

Jennifer Lopez feat. Ludacris – Do It Well (Remix) (full) – listen
Jennifer Lopez’s new single’s already got a remix out (before the video even drops), featuring Ludacris. Your boy Luda has been on a lot of stuff as of late, so yo know what that means! Of course, his delivery is always fun and I guess it just makes the single more so fun than it was before. I heard this song at a party recently, and I kind of liked it, so I can’t even hate on Jenny Lo anymore.

Sammie feat. Jazze Pha – Feelin’ It (full) – listen
A new album in the works for Sammie? I really hope for some success for this boy, because I really was feeling that “You Should Be My Girl” song – even though that last album didn’t do so well. Samme hasn’t really been able to make a good transition to child artist to serious adult artist. But it looks like he’s gotten back in the studio with Jazze Pha to come up with some new material. We’ll see…

I keep getting kanye’s homecoming instead of sammie’s songs

  4. run_forest_run

Keyshia’s joint sound too much like Mary J. Blige’s “Enough Crying” besides “Let It Go” “Should Have Let U Go” Keyshia just GO!!!!! Shit!!!!!! LMAO!!1

  5. Caramel_Frapp

What the hell is Jlo tryna prove w/ this wack ass song? Anyways- Concreteloop I Love yall but if you can answer thsi question please do…Do you guys also help run Media Take Out? Cause they stay tryna stuff bullshit in our face and say its chocolate pie– Hopefully not..I dont see why but I was just asking.

  6. Caramel_Frapp

I’m not feeling Sammy any more– he came out w/ that one hot song and thats the closure that I needed.

  7. I just love Ms. Coles style & music and I just know this cd is going to be a good look b/c the 1st one was the shit.

  8. msbrownie

“feelin’ it” by sammie is off the latest album he put out… its definitely not new but he’s still doing his thing!

  9. run_forest_run

Sammie is really talented thats one sanging boy!!! His album wasn’t the best but he can really sing!!

He was playing around with Ray J’s “One Wish” here’s the link:
    http://youtube.com/watch?v=gzOgo8-wNKs

And he sound good just joking with the song….. Ray J wish he could have sung it like that!!!!

  10. @ 5. NO! Mediatakeout and Concrete Loop are two VASTLY DIFFERENT sites. We have nothing to do with each other. What sparked that random question anyway? lol.

Back on topic. I like that Keyshia joint, but just like Brian said she needs to switch the topic up a bit.

  11. bklyn-bella

Ok ..finally got to listen to the sammie joint and I’m not impressed. Jazzy Pha pumped us up at the beginning and then the song ends up being wack of course this is my opinion.

I’ve learned to end every critique on here with an “of course this is my opinion” wouldn’t want to hurt feelings

  12. Caramel_Frapp

*shrugs* I was just wondering but I’m glad yall have nothing to do w/ them.

  13. Caramel_Frapp

Oh! Did yall ever do “Mess of the Week” on this website (dissin outfits/hairstyles)?.

  14. dctrinigyal

Keyshia needs to let it go with this new song…

I like Sammie he can sing….I wish he can work with someone that can boost his career up.

  15. ~B

That Sammie song is actually off of his last self-titled album, which was crazy, IMO. He really grew up a lot between his debut record and his current one. If you haven’t given it a listen, you should at least give some of his material a try. BUT, he says he is indeed back in the studio recording for his upcoming album.

  16. Miyoko

I think Sammie isnt doing that well because he is LACKING sex appeal. Nowadays its not about the music its about the looks when your young and singing r&b. Sad but true. I think he is a great artist though, wish him the best.

  17. extremelydivine

i actually like the sammy song this boy know u can sang i just wish that they would promote him more…didnt bother 2 listen 2 the rest its a waste of time

  18. OJ

Is that really Sammie? Damn he look good! LOL

  19. Cody

Brian never knows what he is talkin bout LOL. That Sammie song is on his album. LOL @ him going back in the studio. Uuuuuh sure…..check the tracklist.

  20. run_forest_run

Mark my words!!! This have nothing to do with this post but by tomorrow it’s gonna be a big think about Chris Brown being mad at J. Holiday over that “Bed” song. People gonna try and create beef between the two “lightskin” dudes! I bet you.

  21. IcyHot Pack

I love Sammie, but I’m not feelin this from him. He need something like “Come With Me” cause that was def my jam. I liked “Another Last Chance” and “Choose Me” from his cd, it was pretty good in my opinion.

Razah-Rain is aight I don’t really like it, but it’s not that bad.

I like the Keisha C. song despite it has the same topic as all her other songs.

J-Lo………….Luda did his thing as usual, umm yeah that’s all I can say.

  22. M-SAW

that sammie song is not new…. its on his latest album

  23. Miss Erin

@ #20, I read that on UrbanBridgez interview with The Dream that he gave “Bed” to J. Holiday because he was up and coming and new…and that Chris Brown is still mad that he didn’t get it…I’m glad he gave it to J. Holiday because I can’t even hear Chris Brown singing “Bed” and taking him seriously…lol

Anyway, I like the Keyshia joint…and ya’ll know how hard it is for some people to let things go…lol

  24. IcyHot Pack

Sammie is cute to me, so it not lack of sex appeal its lack of promotion.

  25. that sammie song is from his last cd

  26. run_forest_run

@23 Chris Brown addressed it on 106 & Park…… saw he wasn’t mad @ J. Holiday but at his people.

  27. Miyoko

    @ # 24 b

Being cute & being sexy are two different thaings.

He’s NOT sexy but he’s cute.

SEX SELLS not cute, cute just gets you a record deal.

And if the record label doesnt think you have that “it” factor they not gonna promote your ass….you will be shelved

  28. I saw that last pic before going into the post and I must say that Sammie could get it! Well a couple of years ago he couldn’t (age issues), ohh but now he seems to be getting his grown man on!

  29. I’m sick of people talking about Chris Brown…….

Sammie’s album is a hella lot better than his.

  30. DeeDizub

CL is trippin.. that Razah Rain record is my shit. I heard it on his MYspace last week!

  31. Knuck

ummm.. and STILL no post of the new KeKe Wyatt.. that’s my ish…

  32. Keyshia’s song is garbage, mainly because she keeps talking about “I shoulda…(Insert Verb Here).” Her and Alicia Keys need to learn some originality.

    Razah…no

J.Lo…her voice is a no no but the song is okay. Ludacris’ verse could’ve been better.

Sammie’s album was nice and the song is good too. I just can’t stand Jazze Pha.

  33. Lisa

I agree that Keyshia should have different topics , but doesn’t that apply to R&B artists in general???

  34. Lisa

#32 Not trying to be mean , but name me one artists that has originality Today??

  35. run_forest_run

    @ 32 lmao @……. “I shoulda…(Insert Verb Here).”

  36. Shandra

I have to agree with Lisa, I mean the general state of R&B music has the exact same topics. YOu either Love them. LOVE or want to get rid of them.

Can we get some different topics PLEASE.lol

BTW I also don’t know ANYone that is original now of days. So I think ALL artists need to get them some originality.

  37. BayAreaChick

I LIKE CHRIS BUT DAMN BOY LET J HOLIDAY HAVE HIS SHINE ANYWAY TAKE U DOWN IS SIMILAR 2 BED IM GLAD J RECORDED THE SONG
    SAMMY NEED MORE PROMO
    KEYSHIA NEED NEW SONG TITLES

  38. Rik

lovin the jlo remix…lovin jlo period

  39. @34

Uhh…Janelle Monae, Beyonce, Amerie, Teedra Moses, Kelis.

They sing about more than just love and relationships. Teedra Moses for example did a song called “Last Day” that focused on what she would do on her last day alive.

  40. brandywood

that sammie shit is ooolllllllllllddddddddddddd as fuck that was on that last album number 4 matter fact wow!!!!!

  41. @ 32 I shoulda not listen to these wack ass songs :-( *singing*

  42. But then people complain that their’s no originality in r&b but then say that the albums from the artists I named above “are bad” or “too weird” because they don’t understand it.

Everything doesn’t have to sound the same for it to be good r&b. Take Rihanna’s album for instance. I didn’t buy it and I sure as hell ain’t a fan of hers since she has no connection with her music but it wasn’t straight typical r&b and people weren’t feeling that either but it was good.

…let me stop and get off my soapbox though.

  43. Shandra

#40 But they are NOT original.

  44. Shandra

I understand what you are saying BUT there is NOTHING original about ANy of those artists you posted. SOMEONE did it before. If they were Original CRITICS would not compare their songs to other songs.

  45. Shandra

How many artists have similar song titles a LOT of them. Keyshia only has two songs that start with Should’ve or I should’ve. I actually don’t like the new song all that much, but I’m not going to bash her for something that almost every artist do.

  46. Shandra

I have both Beyonce’s album and all her topics are the same as everybody else love not love or dancing in a club.

  47. r&b fan

Why is Razah even allowed in a studio. Hot garbage!!!!!!!!

  48. @44

Amerie did a song called “Take Control” like a year ago and it had an electric guitar in it and was a song about being submissive and there were no r&b songs like that out.

Beyonce’s album was pretty much an entire album you could dance too and it was good.

Janelle Monae is so creative with her music that she’ll scare you off if you don’t understand what she’s trying to express.

Kelis is just wild with her music and I don’t believe anyone can say she’s not original. Name a modern day r&b artist who really did scream on a track before her?

Teedra Moses is just a all around independent female and in her lyrics she says things most of these other young cats can’t. Don’t believe me then listen to her debut album.

Keyshia’s song is garbage, mainly because she keeps talking about “I shoulda…(Insert Verb Here).”

    *dead*

  50. Compton, tell me why Beyaki is coming out with another CD in 2008?

  51. ^^^^only a few of them are original but I never said they were original I said CREATIVE.

Keyshia and Alicia’s new SONGS aren’t very creative or original. That’s the only problem I have with that.

  52. Shandra

#49 But what I am saying is that they are NOT original. SOmeone whether it be an artists that came out years ago DID IT BEFORE> IT IS HARD TO BE ORIGINAL NOWADAYS. AS FAR AS THE TYPE OF R&B MUSIC THEY ARE DOING.

Like I said Beyonce either talks about love not love or dancing NOT ORIGINAL.

  53. @53

But what I said was that they are CREATIVE I never said they were original. Amerie, Beyonce and Teedra Moses aren’t original artists but they’re music is creative.

  54. Lisa

#52 so any song that isn’t creative you don’t like it???

Well you must don’t like a LOT of songs. It’s fine just say you don’ t like their new songs, but saying that you don’t like it because their not creative IS kind of weird. Because there are a lot of songs that are not creative.

Creative don’t always equal good BTW.

  55. Lisa

Well I don’t see what’s so creative about Teedra Mose , Amerie and Beyonce? Cuz I don’t see it.

  56. Lisa

I meant to say. I don’t see anything creative about them either , but maybe that’s just me to be creative you have to create something new or different and none of those artists have created nothing new or different because OTHER people had already created it. I could see if you said they brought a certain sound back, but they surely didn’t create a new one.

  57. chris

but the sammie song is from the album that he dropped in 06

  58. No I understand creativity doesn’t always equal good. But the artists I mentioned do make good music.

I like my non-creative music too. I’ll bump a Bobby Valentino or a Ciara song if I like it and it’s not like they can’t make good songs regardless.

I’m just saying how many times is Keyshia gonna touch the same subject? And how many people are gonna say how much creativity is needed in r&b when there are talented artists who are doing just that but not getting recognized?

  59. Aisha

I like the Keyshia song. The others not so much. R&B IN GENERAL need different topics.

Creative and Original are similar in meaning, no offense but if you think ANY of those artists you mention are creative or original you missed out on a lot of music.
