Friday, August 10, 2007

I know ya’ll remember the video on youtube of Beyonce doing a “Soulja Boy” dance at one of her concerts. Well here is the video from the ATL artist Soulja Boy himself, so if you don’t know how to do it or never even heard of it…you’ll definitely know now.

Thats true…..he had thousands of people listening to his song and doing the dance before the was even signed.

Not too many people get signed AFTER they are already popular.

I felt late as hell after seeing all those videos on youtube

People keep saying what is so wrong with a party song like Crank Dat Souljah Boy because we need something to dance to. The problem is there are too many songs like souljah boy and not enough of the more conscious songs. It’s that simple but Souljah Boy like many other artist i.e J-Kwon will be a one hit wonder. I’m 20 and far from old, and I totally agree with what many posters have said. I feel like years ago there was a balance between the bullshit music and the good music. Now that balance does not exist. I mean Sean Kingston is a complete joke. He is the male version of Rihanna in my opinion and trust me that is not a good thing. Sean Kingston and Rihanna can get all kinds of play from black people with shitty vocals but artists like Tamia can’t get any play whatsoever. There is a difference between being simply a singer and an artist and many of the people in the music industry fall into the singer category. Almost anyone can sing and be called a singer American Idol is a perfect example of this but there are a handful of people out there right now that can be considered artists.

@ 71 Mixed Ma it’s hard to consider someones opinion when what they type shows an apparent diffuclty in mastering subject-verb agreement. What you typed was a bunch of gibberish. Come back when you can type coherently and grammatically correct. Then people will take what you wrote seriously

79 i feel you. i mean its not soulja boy’s fault that so many other hits with the same concept came out before him && influenced his song. just like walk it out, 2 step, cupid shuffle and all that.. this is whats in right now. plus it is still summer time so i do agree with how this song would only appeal to the teenage crowd. i would think thats what he aimed for with this song.

in conclusion, i would like to thank Rocsi and Terrence for mentioning how they aint even gunna attempt to do the dance when the video came out. lol if you know you cant get down to it, then stand to the side cus you WILL look ridiculous.

Kids NEED to be listening to “Superman dat hoe”?

WTF?

IMO kids need to be listening to uplifting and encouraging music. I don’t think Obama got where he is today by Supermanin dem hoes or leanin, or rockin, snappin, two steppin, poppin, droppin, etc…

BTW, remember Gospel music?

Some ppl are takin this waaayyyyyy too seriously. If u don’t like it, CUT IT OFF! All rap music is not for everybody and all rap music is different. After all of the consciousness, sometimes I need somethin to light to groove to. As far as “coonish music” comin from Alabama, there are artist such as Rich Boy and Ruben Studdard who sing and rap music with some substance and not just Alabama but the south in general.

There are good artist such as Outkast, UGK, TLC, 112, Jagged Edge, Monica. So before clownin the south….do your research and u will find that half of the music that comes from this region of the country is in your CD changer.

BTW….FYI…

Beyonce did do this dance in her show in Orlando, FL. The same show she fell onstage. It on Youtube and I will admit, she was clownin wit it.

You people say they just want to have fun, but can’t we have fun and dance AND hear something positive at the same time?

instead they (whoever dances to this stuff in clubs) have to dance to trashy stupid lyrics all the time.

i am from the atl and they play this mess on the radio 24/7. instead of making songs on myspace and youtube he needs to be trying to graduate and not become another black male drop out static, b/c i can bet you he is not in school or getting tutored.
this song is not for kids and a kid should not be rapping it talking about hoes and crap. this is why our black youth are the most lost and left behind in the world b/c some of us do not see anything wrong with these types of songs.

When I first heard the song, I thought it was stupid as hell…Now, I still think it’s stupid as hell, but I gotta admit, the dance is my Cardio….lol….that shyt burns calories like crazy…

And to whoever said that you’ll get talked about in the clubs doing this dance, I don’t know shorty, but they are playing this track in ALL clubs and people are doing it, so if anything YOUUUUUUUUUUUUU might be the one looking crazy turning your nose up at people at the club when it’s all about having fun!

Loosing up people, all rap isn’t suppose to be serious….Don’t get me wrong Mos Def, Talib Kweli, and Common are in my top dope MC list, but sometimes you just gotta have fun yall….

……I can’t beleive some of the things I’ve read….

I come back to find people supporting this garbage and giving reasons on why little 3rd graders should be “superman-ing that hoe.”

I couldn’t give a damn if you aint got some corny ass song to dance to at your party. If you think everybody who despises this song is a “homebody” than you can go kill yourself too because when it comes down to it, you still have kids who can remember every last “hoe” used in this song but cant read for shit. I can’t fathom parents who would let their kids listen to songs or songs that are similar.

For whoever said songs like “Bed” are worst than this make my fukkin skin crawl. How dare you call this garbage music. I am offended on behalf of real artists, dancers, and performers who can’t make it in mainstream music without conforming to some “coonish” stereotype. I rather you get your party fix off of “Get Me Bodied” than “Crank” anything. Soulja Boy and others like him are capitalist and jump on the latest trend to make money off of it. Hell yeah it’s a hustle, but not the kind where there’s any work involved.

You got (real) artists out here bustin their asses for deals and some airtime but can’t get any because of this garbage all over the airways. I swear I hear something getting “Cranked”, “Youd”, or “Walked” every 7 minutes on the radio. Seriously. Don’t let this shit corrupt you. Teaching kids improper grammar and just being wild. CALM YOUR ASSES DOWN. Every jam aint got to be like this. If we can’t make a party song without demeaning women (or our race), cursing, and other things than Music is in a sad state of emergency. Be a leader and not a follower. Set your own trends and stop being a groupie. Be yourself and make people want to be like you.

I am 17 years old; so here is my perspective on things. The souja boy dance is not too far a stretch from the electric slide or the cotton eye joe; it’s just a fun dance and people dance right???? unless y’all are robots or something.

I see people on here want to talk about positive music, but nothing in music or entertainment for that matter is positive. Someone even said that they were glad that they were brought up in the days of biggie and tupac. Are you effin serious???? So biggie and tupac were the artists you looked to for positive and conscious lyrical content? damn shame.

This video/song is not that big of an issue y’all are making it out to be.

The state of music period is not a big deal that is why I laugh when someone says hip hop is dead or rnb is dead. secular music is secular music period. it’s all the same crap whether it is common or dem franchise boys…..it’s secular music.

laughing at some of yall…
i find it so funny that ppl want to be so politically correct all the damn time when they probably are the prime example of the shit they “preach” about. Some people just talk all over themselves. Its a song, get over it. People are acting as if he’s putting us 10 years back. People go around doing ignorant shit everyday. This boy makes a dance song and people want to talk negativity about him as if it’s really that deep. It’s funny that music topics bring about more input than topics about issues that are going on in the black community. Damn sad man….But hey…let’s boycot songs like this. Thats whats REALLY important right? If you can be influenced by music that ppl put out, you are a sad sad case. Instead of talking about the musicians..talk about yourself. As for the person who referred to people out of Mississippi and other southern states as “coons”…im going to need you to step away from the computer and get a book. Read about some of that “coon heritage” because I’m pretty sure your grand parents parents are from there!

people should stop trying to put on a front for the net…i wish people would stop preaching that same damn sermon.”music aint like it used to be”,”all southern music is like this”,blah blah blah.stfu.its getting old and no matter how much you protest it,its not going to change.so calm down, pick up your old 2pac or biggie album, put it in your cd player, put your headphones on and hear your “real” music…

regardless of what this boy could have said,it would’ve been negativity surrounded it. he could’ve made a song saying “stay in school, dont do drugs” somebody would’ve complained about him wearing BAPE….get over this shit

140.

TeTe(couldgiveafck)

Saturday, August 11, 2007 /

@129

i agree about the 2pac and biggie thing…im not going to lie,i listen to both but it kills me when people use them as a reference to what they consider “real music” as if these dudes didnt rap about killing “niggas” and “bitches”……i’ve been saying the same thing since 2pac died, half of his fans are fakes who only started supporting him after his death, when every appointed him as “the greatest rapper” ever…

if you’re going to bash this kid,let it be because of something logical not because he created a dance that you dont like……no,im not in FULL support of soulja boy because i dont agree with the language he uses and how much he talks about guns but this DANCE is just something WE down here in the south have been doing for months now….
