OK - Here’s the thing though. You want a man to marry you because he truly loves you and wants to spend the rest of his life with you. I understand that. But why is the standard different when this same man releases his sperm inside of you to create a product that will bond the two of you for the rest of your lives? That’s the part I don’t get. Isn’t creating a baby — a lifelong committment that can never be reversed, and is more spiritually, physically, psychologically and emotionally binding and permanent — a bigger deal than just getting married for the sake of love?

I’m not suggesting that people should get married just because a woman gets pregnant. My confusion comes in when a man and a woman call themselves a couple, treat each other as a couple, make babies like a couple, and then refuse to be brave enough to solidify the relationship and create a committed environment to bring the baby into. If you ask me, it’s really just an easy cop out for men when they run around proclaiming their love for the “baby momma” but not entertain taking it to the next level. It’s also pretty stupid on the part of the woman to not hold a man to a certain standard.

I know it’s pretty Utopic to have this idea, and Lord knows I am not suggesting that the perfect circumstances can come in every situation. But I guess it all comes down to the fact that I’m tired of seeing brothers who are ok with just being baby daddys and sisters who are cool with being baby mommas. The Black family is becoming extinct because women are making it too easy for men and men are becoming too complacent with their responsibilities as the head of the black household. But that’s just my take on this.

One last thing, the fact that Mekhi has adamantly stated how much he “loved sex” in that article, homegirl betta start on the Keigel excersises stat!

I understand where you are coming from and the legitimate frustrations you (me and we) have… As we have forgotten to be women in many respects MEN have forgotten to be men—and Mehki is a PERFECT example of our amnesia. Whether any of you believe it but sex is a very important part of marriage but a lot of people confuse sex with intimacy. They are completely different. People need to be honest with what they are looking for in a mate instead of trying to be what they think that other person needs just to be with someone.

Women, we don’t have to remind our men of their short comings or their weeknesses. And men the same. Women we are the workers in the background that makes sure that are men and family are taken care of. It is a selfless act that doesn’t need to be broadcast because it’s our job. Submissive means to agree to the goals of the family not to the every whelm of the man.

We tend to make men feel like kids and emasculate them.

As i was reading 67’s post….the bible states that you should not put all your trust in MAN because MAN will fail you….

In relationship terms…you should have a job…he should have a job. if you have a joint bank account you should be able look at it and know where the money is coming from and going to. You are a active partner in this relationship. No matter how much effort you put in to one; sometimes they fail. It doesn’t matter the reasons why, but up until it fails both should put in 110% effort into continuously planting seeds in that relationship so that if you have to walk away from it your spirit, mind and heart is in tact.

@new yorker- you’re probably a few years or maybe more younger than me, but you’ll learn just like I did… it’ll be a hard and bumpy road because sometimes you really want to choke him and he you…:-). Just don’t go at it thinking that Love will save all because a relationship needs more than love.
