As rumored, Kanye West and 50 Cent are covering the next issue of Rolling Stone Magazine. You all know the album showdown is about to end next week on September 11th when Graduation & Curtis drop. Both rappers insist the competition between them is healthy for hip-hop. Kanye said: “Hip-hop is the only sport of music. And these are like championship moments.” 50 added: “We’ve gotta compete.”

Rolling Stone provides excerpts from both interviews on their site.

Kanye: A Genius in Praise of Himself

50 CENT IS AN UGLY PIECE OF MONKEY SHIT THAT GOT PICKED UP OFF THE FREEWAY AND INCINERATED TILL IT WENT ASHY. BUT THE SHIT SMELL WAS STILL THERE, SO THEY DECIDED TO PUT IT IN THE HOOD, AND IT “CAME TO LIFE” AS A PIECE OF GHETTO TRASH, WHO CONNED MILLIONS OF MUSIC BUYERS TO PURCHASE HIS WACK ALBUMS.

50, KISS MY BLACK ASS, AND GET SOME FUCKIN TALENT.

With all this “supposing beef” between Kanye and 50, I believe even more that this whole thing is just a publicity stunt….how much more have people got to repeat those words of “Who will be the king of hip-hop???” so ppl can fight over whos better outta these two….

Im sorry but al this is fake and just for publicity…

There are GREAT artists outside pushed corporate crap. Kanye sounds exactly the same as the day he started, the same for 50 cent. The haven’t grown, they got money and they have to keep up the ficade and I feel sorry for people who look at them and see success and “good music”, so um, who gives a fuck? it’s a publicity stunt anyway.

Look truth be told, I’m glad to se two black people at the height of there success right nw but the game needs a little less of what 50 is bringing to the table .

On another note are so many people including the creater of this post so quick to play this up as a marketing ploy or a publicity stunt as to not lose any cool points for getting caught up in the excitement of the unraveling events. Its the music business. You people act like its not ok to try and make money by creating drama around your product becuase you dont stand to make any money from it, just shut up and buy the music stop trying to be the voice of reason damn.

what the hell differnce does it make that its a publicty stunt. You people are dumbass hell if you think these two negros are shaking hands and having champaign together at their album release parties. I guess the whole snoop dogg murder trial of 95 was to sell records too huh. Believe it or not conflict does happen in the music industry, espcially in hip hop at leats its being played out this way.

See THAT’s what I’M talking about! You picked some underrated greats. Don’t sleep on Ledisi’s new joint, and look out for Liv Wakefield. Both are giving a strong Jill Scott vibe. I want some TRUE artist shit!

Rap ain’t saying nothing, really. Especially 50. Same boring-ass shit. But if I had a choice, I’d take Kanye, who at least puts an intelligent spin on a tyred-ass genre. Talib Kweli, too.

How come people consider this to be a competition? They are two completely different types of rap music and in the past 50’s has been bigger business and sold more. Kanye is a sometimes backpacker/ semi-political/ always trying to be clever or funny rappper and 50 is a straight gangsta/love song rapper. The only reason there is a debate is because every G-Unit release since the Massacre has been a flop and a lot of people are tired of 50’s antics so they want him to lose.

I smell publicity stunt!

not mad at em thought-pulblicity stunts help record sales and keep your name in the media, thus making you even more popular-people who may have not known who you are because of your recent media attention are trying to figure out who you are and what you are about-they purchase magazine and may even by your record-

C’MON PEOPLE IT’S A MARKETING TACTIC-TRUST AND BELIEVE IT WAS ORCHESTRATED BY THEIR PR DEPT. TRUST AND BELIEVE IF THEY TRULY HAD BEEF WITH A NICCA LIKE 50 THE SHOWDOWN WOULDN’T TAKE PLACE IN A MAGAZINE OR ON THE CHARTS

Co-sign. That’s the breakdown. For me, even though I know that’s the way the game is played, I’m pretty cynical about the whole thing and I’m not moved to purchase “units”. It’s mostly geared towards teenagers who easily fall for hype.

And that’s the dream demographic anyways.

Would there be a big deal if Bono and Bon Jovi dropped on the same day??
I don’t mean to sound parinoid however, this marketing approach is suspect to me.
You have two black men going at each other , no matter how they try to swing it
to me, its being marketed as such. Why can’t these two brotha’s be smilling, why they gotta looked rough and dangerous??? The record companies are feeding this and I don’t like it… why is such big deal if two major black drop on the same day white artist do it all the time??? this don’t smell right to me!

This is crazy!

Wednesday, September 5, 2007 /

Instead of arguing over which album to purchase 50 Cent or Kanye West maybe our generation should be concerned over who to vote for in the presidential election next year. That really affects our lives!

I really don’t get it. We care way too much about two millionaires that got rich off of your purchases and the funny part is you people are arguing over WHO TO MAKE RICHER next week. This is crazy!

The music industry is a business just like Home Depot, McDonalds, Coca-Cola, etc, etc. And nowadays blacks don’t support black music anymore UNLESS it’s a beef or controversy. So I can’t blame them for driving a wedge between you. They are doing what is sooooo easy to do in the black community split us apart and for what? 50 Cent or Kanye West.

I like both artist for their ability to dream and accomplish their goals (i.e. Vitamin Water and GOOD Music). They have entirely two different target markets. Meaning if you like 50 Cent you probably really like him and don’t care for the other and if like Kanye West you probably really like and don’t care for the other then you have your people in the middle who just respect their hustle (me).

So maybe we should support our black men for what they doing right instead of arguing over how we HATE OUR OWN PEOPLE. Let’s talk about who we are going to support for something that really matters in the world like Healthcare, After School Programs and the War in Iraq.

I agree with Fudge. I think we’re always placed in the light of hostility and anger. Some of us probably are but many of us are happy and approachable. The last thing we need right now are angry mugshots of two black men on a national magazine. We have enough of that in the local newspapers.

If they were white artists dropping on the same day, they would probably have photographed them smiling while holding hands and skipping in a field of fucking daisies. Not trying to make it a race issue..but then again..

They should have had 50 and Kanye shaking eachother hands on the cover. That would’ve fucked everybody head up and probably would’ve sold more copies..

74.

HERE WE GO AGAIN.

when are black people gonna wake up and stop falling for this same game

we are systematcally pit against each other all the time by the same forces

these forces do this because they make money off the sheddding of our blood

we are so intrinsically overdosed with self hatred, we automatically fuel the internal war with ourselves at the drop of a dime

this is foolishness

they are both sitting in board rooms together strategizing this whole thing

while all the lost one, run ring side to cheer on their favorite superhero

remember people, the music industry is at an all time low

this is all about money

hey #71, chill the f$&k out! there is nothing wrong with a little healthy competition every now and then. are you forgetting that this IS entertainment? no one is down playing politics right now. what’s wrong with some amusement in the midst of all the drama going on in the world? i think you have taken this whole thing too seriously!
