We all heard the rumor about Ashanti hiding from the paparazzi because she thought she was too big to get photographed. Well it looks like it was probably true. Word has it that she lost eight pounds on the Master Cleanse ‘diet’ over the summer to get in shape for upcoming promos. Some of you may remember that is the same ‘diet’ Beyonce used when she wanted to drop a few pounds for Dreamgirls. Read on:

ASHANTI lost eight pounds this summer (07) on the Master Cleanser diet. The pretty singer felt she needed to shape up for a run of promotional appearances for new film Resident Evil: Extinction and new album Declaration and so she spent a week eating nothing. She explains, “I did the lemon-pepper-maple syrup diet for seven days. “When I got really hungry, I ate fruit. I lost eight pounds and kept it off.” [SOURCE]

Most people call the Master Cleanse a diet, but it is in fact a detox that is supposed to cleanse your body from all the bad chemicals and foods you put into it [click here to read more about it]. Trust, the drink is nasty as hell and I tried the detox too. I didn’t even last 10 hours. LMAO! It was definitely not for me. Congrats to Ashanti though.

    Well you know…there’s “normal” and then there’s “hollywood” weight. If you want to be in the spotlight…you kinda have to conform. She wasn’t fat…but she was heavier than we’re used to her being. Either way though, she looks good.

    I tried tbe Maple Syrup diet, which tasted like hell
    I think it was hot pepper, maple syrup, tea, …i dont know but I lost 2 pounds cause I threw up all that nastiness…it does cleanse you but it tastes like hell thats all. It made me lose any appetite I had.

    Well what currently works for me is to have some green tea in the morning with honey…..nothing nasty in it

    She looks great but I am still not feeling Ashanti, her music is forgettable and so is she. Sad to say that…but I was not like wow where has Ashanti been and glad to see her back, however I have been anticipating Jill Scott’s return and when I saw her on the Loop I was like wow I have really missed her contributions to the music scene. Sorry, Ashanti does not envoke that spirit, I guess its not enough star power.

    ANGEL, love the post. You are too funny. I tried that mess, the pepper messed me up but I could not do it for more then a day. You can chuck that mess and drink flavor water and it does the same. Eight pounds is not a lot but I guess on Ashanti ‘s small frame its noticeable. SHE BETTER WORK!!!

    Yeah, I agree with the person who said she doesn’t want to reveal her starting weight…the whole “lost 8 lbs” thing is ridiculous…that sort of difference would not be that visible.
    What she did was, start that diet immediately after the MTV awards and someone can calculate that time, the number of days between the MTV awards and the next pic that popped up of her… The difference was more than 8lbs…it looks like maybe she lost 20lbs.

    About the Master Cleanse, I’ve read that it’s not “cleansing” at all, but harmful, as it is essentially starvation. I heard it does more harm to your system than good. Robyn, Howerd Stern’s partner, did the diet and that’s how she lost sooo much weight… I don’t know..I’ve tried a crazy diet or two, but my Dad was an athlete and he’s still in shape and he instilled in me, “eat and work it off” So, that’s what I do…lol NOW, I’m still looking about like Ashanti’s before pic, but heyy…I’m just saying, I aint starving LOL!

    Just read about the fast – no way is that for me, with those concoctions it’s bound to taste nasty. I can see the difference it’s made to Ashanti, she does look really good even though she looked ok before. I’ve just eaten three bags of crisps (potato chips already (small bags) so I definitely wouldnt last on it. lol

    I’M READING THE DOWN FALL ON THIS detox mess. it read that :individuals on the diet may experience dizziness, delirium, and fainting in the short term, with possible damage to the body occurring in longer-term applications. yeah, it’s great to be so desperate that you’ll put your health at risk to be a size 4.Keep in mind that these celebs also got personal trainers, nutritionist, and access photoshop. SO, IT’S NOT WORTH IT AT ALL.

    @18 everytime you get hungry you would drink that mess. Basically you replace it like breakfast lunch and dinner. I think without the pepper it would be okay. If you like sugar water which I do not, but instead try flavor water with no calories–you can buy them at Walmart or Target for .50 cents-1.00 dollar (the seltzer type) and basically get the same results if you drink it all day and eat fruit and veggies. Literally you will lose 8 to 10 pounds in a week without exercising and with exercise it would be more. Just my tricks of the trade. And its not starving because you are eating just not processed food and meat. I am not endorsing just sharing…

    Well, if you’re eating fruits and veggies, you don’t have to buy water or anything extra because you’re probably only taking in so many calories…which is the essence of weight loss, cut your calories…

    As for Ashanti not wanting to take a pic because it was morning, they had a workup on her in one of those tabloid mags (someone actually bought me some, STAR US WEEKLY INTOUCH with all of these white people on the covers, like I wanted that…lol) Anyway, they had a “winners and losers” section with people who’ve gained/lost weight and Ashanti was in there… And, she had gained a lot of weight…to African American men, no, she wasn’t overweight, but she was wayyyyyyyyyyyy past Hollywood’s standards. They estimated her at like 155lbs (which is an estimate, a “Dr” looking at photos and guessing LOL).
    Anyway, yeah…that picture probably left her camera shy…

    @23 I watched the video, I hate her laugh, she needs to contain that mess. She looks good though but Ashanti has never been fat since coming on the scene so I am not sure who said that, black women need to stop looking at themselves through snow bunny eyes. We are not made the same, last time I checked T & A was not a crime but an asset, not that it is our only asset (shaking my head at the latest hip hop video) but its a good thing to look like a woman not a boy.

    @27, the water is to keep you hydrated and to flush your system. Most people do not drink enough water everyday that is why they are retaining water. Some people say they hate the taste of water–which is odd since most “clean” water does not have any taste. However for those craving taste non-calorie flavor water is a great alternative and keeps you feeling full when you drink at least 2-3 liters per day (3 bottles).

    Most fruits and veggies have minimal calories, but contain a good source of water and you can still feel full, so there is not sense of deprivation which is usually why people fail at dieting.

    Your skin will look better and you body will be better.

    Water is essential. You need more then what is in the fruits and veggies… and lastly for those who will try this… do not add salt try pepper and natural herbs like tarrgon, cumin, oregeno and some lemon and you will make it tasty without adding the calories and unwanted fat of butter or salt.

    You’re essentially describing veganism (which is not, in and of itself, conducive to weight loss. You can get fat from eating fruit, only fruit.)
    But, if someone were to go to such an extreme, he/she would probably know that you can overdrink water and unless he/she were going to eat NEXT TO NOTHING, he/she probably wouldn’t intake veggies and fruit and water…

    Well she really wasn’t on the master cleanse because your not supposed to eat anything at all, even fruits. Every time you get hungry your supposed to drink the “special” lemonade. Its supposed to last at least 10 days and isn’t really for weight loss. I tried that thing to cleanse and never made it passed the first day.

Hell, if Bey can do it, why can’t she and not be criticized for it. At least she stayed in her weight range and didn’t go all bobble head on us like Bey did…..

    i don’t think it taste bad at all i have done this twice i did it for 10 days and lost 18 pounds. the first few days are crazy but it get really easy and after the cleanse you have to change your diet otherwise you will gain it back like in 2 days. 8 pounds is nothing she always look good to me. the master cleanse is easy you just have to prepare your mind for it. i did it with my fridge filled with food so i think it’s the individual.

    Can Fasting Help Me Lose Weight?

    One way to lose weight is to just stop eating. It sounds simple, but in reality you have to know what you are doing to get any long term weight loss benefits from fasting. Let’s look at the weakness and strengths of fasting for weight loss.

    Like most forms of dieting, fasting can be used to bring about dramatic but temporary reductions of weight. You can go on a long fast, taking nothing but juice or eating grapes or taking some other low calorie meal substitute for several weeks, and while you are on the fast you will certainly lose weight. However, during the fast you may not be able to carry on your normal social interactions. It’s not so easy to sit around sipping carrot juice while the rest of your family is eating a normal meal.

    Another problem with long fasting is that your body requires vital nutrients (vitamins, minerals, protein) and your favorite juice may not contain them. Long fasting without proper medical supervision can be dangerous.

    Finally, a major problem with this kind of fasting is that once you stop fasting and resume eating your normal diet, you are likely to gain back all the weight that you have lost during your crash weight loss fast.

    So, does fasting have any place in a weight loss plan? Yes it does. Periodic fasting is one of the secrets of a long and healthy life. Our body’s digestive organs require a rest from time to time,just as we require days off from work. One-day fasting done in a methodical and regular manner provides the kind of rest that helps our digestive system, aids in the elimination of toxins from our body, and, yes, also helps us to lose weight in a healthy and sustainable way.

    How to do proper fasting

    Here is a method of doing one day fasts: taking no food and (if your body is strong) no water in a period from the sunrise of one day to the sunrise of the next day.

    Successful fasting has three stages: preparation, the actual fast, and breaking the fast. Each one of these stages is important.

    Preparation: If you are not prepared both mentally and physically you will find it difficult to go one day without food. The mental preparation is simple, but very important. The night before the fast you have to take a firm determination that tomorrow you are going to fast, that you are not going to eat any food. If you fix your mind in advance then you will not start deliberating during the fasting day whether you should continue or not to continue. If you are undecided or waffling you can always find a hundred reasons why you should start eating.

    Physical preparation is also important. The day before you fast you should eat a normal amount of food and take a good amount of liquids (especially if you are going to be fasting without taking any liquids). If you miss some meals on the day before fasting, then you may start feeling hungry during the fasting period. If you do not take enough liquids, especially during the night before the fast, then you will feel uncomfortable when you are fasting.

    If you are physically and mentally prepared you will not feel very hungry while you are fasting. Once you decide to fast, your hunger just “shuts off” for the fasting period. This sounds hard to believe, but if you do it a few times you will see that it is true.

    The actual fasting day:

    It is best to do light physical tasks and concentrate more on intellectual and spiritual work during the fasting period. It is not a good idea to spend your time thinking about what you are going to eat tomorrow! If you have prepared yourself properly this shouldn’t be a problem and you can use the time that you gain by not eating to do some constructive things that you normally don’t get time to do.

    Breaking the Fast:

    One of the benefits of fasting is that it helps to eliminate toxins from the body. However, you can only get this benefit if you break your fast correctly. On the morning following the fasting day, take two glasses of lemon water. Put the juice of have of a lemon in one glass and add a bit of salt. (The drink should taste both lemony and salty). After some time, you can eat your breakfast. The lemon water will help you to flush your digestive system with a strong bowel movement and many toxins will be eliminated.

    One day fasts like this can be done twice a month. This kind of fasting will give rest to your digestive organs, help eliminate toxins, build your will power and strength of mind. On top of this, the overall reduction in calories that you get from going two days without food each month, will definitely be one of the elements of a balanced and sustainable weight loss program.

    Did she really do the whole Master Cleanse? I did it before and to get the full effect you drink sea salt water which is the nastiest shyt on earth. You basically are sh!tting water it is the craziest feeling. It defintely works though if your trying to knock off quick pounds for a vacation or whatever which is what I was doing. Gotta admit I got my butt in that bikini!! I wouldnt do it again thats for sure but it wasnt hard to do. I guess you just have to really be determined to be able to drink that stuff for so long.

  42. All I have to say is this…I’ve been skinny before kids and thick after and at some point you have to be satisfied with you because if you’re big and lose the weight; you’re still not going to be happy because YOU never liked YOU in the first place.

    If you notice…most of these women and men gain serious weight once they are out of the public’s eye so what’s the point?

    I ain’t got time to be trying to kill myself to look the way somebody else wants me to look. If you don’t like it close ya eyes. And once you introduce food back into your system you pick up double the weight you lost. Pilates and Tae-Bo is the stuff and i kiss the ground that Target walks on because that’s where i bought from.

    Eat small meals (about the size of a small plater) every 2-3 hours, egg whites, tuna, etc…stay away from sugar (i’m still working with that) and for me i only eat red meat once a week and the rest is chicken, salads and veggies. Also don’t eat a lot of fish because Puritan in fish can cause your joints to swell.

    This sounds insane to me..i don’t think it’s healthy to starve your body, not for one day. I think you can gain mental clarity, but the body’s organs needs vitamins and nutrients EACH DAY, and by skipping days, even weeks, of eating. your body suffers, and you’ll see the result of this in the long run. Kidneys might break down sooner than most, or something to that effect. I have no clue, but i know the heart needs certain electrolytes to function properly. The organs needs nutrients daily to perform their individual functions.

    I wouldn’t last on this bullshit…i love food. Thank God i’m naturally a curvy size 2. I have to eat, and i thank god for my metabolism every time i read stories like this.

    But Shani looks too cute. I just wish in the future she would take a more healthy approach to weight loss.

    The Master Cleanse is extremely difficult to do because it’s over a 10 day period. You can get the same result by eating broccoli for a week. It’s got protein and carbs in it. Eat it raw, with a little vegetable dip. You can also steam it lightly, keeping it crunchy, and add a little garlic salt to it. It’s nowhere near as difficult as the Master. With the Master, there is no food, period, it’s tough.

    I feel so sorry for woman. Especially ones that don’t realize the older you get the more have to diet and exercise if thickness or fatness is in your genes. That cleanser is nothing to do just to lose weight and you are not suppose to eat anything. I did it for 12 days and that is only because I was still living with moms and no job. Otherwise I suggest you get a diaper. I bought the book and did it the real way and the drink is not terrible if done right. It is the liter of warm salt water you have to drink every morning that fuks you up. But I will say in Ashanti and B’s defense that they probably are made to feel that they have a lot of money if not millions based partially on their looks. And since everybody is always comparing famous chicks, especially singers to each other, the competition aspect will drive people to do crazy shit.

    oh yeah, for the people talking about what the body needs, the diet is suppose to be designed to cleanse you but at the same time it is not complete starvation. You do get some needs from the syrup lemon and espcially water. The pepper and salt act as a scrub for the colon. And if the people that were talking about doing this for weight loss were so worried about vitamins and nutrients they would not be blubber asses in the first place.

    On the front of the book (the Master Cleanse,by Stanley Burroughs) it says “For Special Needs and Problems”. This is for people that firmly believe that they need to detoxify their system for whatever reason, and, along with that, comes some weight loss as a result of the recipe for the diet. There are also recipes in there at the end of it that promote a vegetarian, almost vegan lifestyle. It is NOT a DIET, nor a quick fix to weight loss.

    I am co-signing with most people on here (particularly #11 and #25). This cannot be good as a long term way or continual way, if I may say, to lose weight. When on this program for several days, all you do is go to the bathroom. Numerous times a day. Period. The celebrities that are taking this quick fix prescription to lose weight don’t have to do anything but stay at home and blow up the spot for a week, if they want to. That’s NOT me. So for me, I have to keep a regimented routine that keeps my weight at a reasonable size, give or take ten pounds here or there.

    The first time I heard about this was from Robin Quivers. Then of course, Beyonce brings it up. I know there are more.

    Our bodies are marvelous creatures. Our bodies send us signals on what is wrong, what feels good to eat, and what doesn’t. Now mind you, I’m not a vegetarian by no means, not my style, but surely when I eat more fruits and vegetables, I look, feel, and sleep better. Maintaining thirty minutes of cardio, three times a week, will keep you on the straight and narrow, and, if in fact you slack off for a month or so, (because we all do), then celebrity or not, you won’t give a shit.

    Okay, I see everybody is dogging the Master Cleanse, but when followed correctly & done for the right reasons it can be beneficial. I didn’t do it for weight loss. I did it for cleansing purposes. Once you get past the 4th day it’s not hard at all. The weight loss is a “side effect” and really shouldn’t be the main reason you are doing the Cleanse. I lost 16 pounds when I did it. I did it for 11 days & I have never felt better in my life. I did it to kick off a change in my lifestyle & to get away from fast/processed foods. But, everything is not for everyone.

    People are supposed to fast at least once a year. In the past not only did people fast but the ‘de-wormed’ as well. One of the reasons why most people cannot loose weight easily is due to the amount of sludge in their gut. Meat esp rots in your gut and stays there much longer than people are aware. So do the gazzillions of medication (antibiotics) that people consume. Anyway i agree with whoever said that with fasting, you have to supplement your fast/diet with nutrients not only to keep your strength up but to keep your body healthy and you can get those in pill form anyway. Lmao@ ms_mac.

    All these women have eating disorder and will end up fat. Because when you starve yourself like that, you’re mistreating your body, and the day your body can’t take those yoyo games anymore it will stock everything and refuse to lose anything. Ashanti was never fat, but always thick, get over it, that’s your genes woman! This industry puts so much pressure on them that they are killing themselves. All these chicks Janet, Beyonce, Ashanti, or Rihanna if she keeps doing the diet she talked about in a magazine (that girl wasn’t EVEN FAT to begin with, those labels are ridiculous!!) have fat chicks in them waiting to come out. Chances are they’ll end up FAT for real. If you wanna shape up, exercice, drink water and eat healthy food. That’s why I respect Alicia’s wisdom, her body is in shape, but she loves and keeps her natural thickness, y’all saw the thickness at the VMAs. Some of y’all are NOT supposed to look like Kate Moss, embrace your body type instead of starving for weeks, shape it up but don’t kill yourself, DAMN!
