Beyonce stirs debate yet again //

Believe it or not, Beyonce has stirred up more debate across the internet again. The singer who was recently interviewed by Latina Magazine, spoke on her cross-over appeal, as well as her success with singing in Spanish.

When she was asked a question about her Latina fans, Beyonce responded with a comment that is sure to cause some drama around her camp. Read on:

Latina: What’s one thing that you’d like to tell your Latina fans?

Beyonce: I would thank them for embracing me. I did radio (promotions) this morning for hours and hours and I noticed a big difference between speaking to all of the Latino stations and speaking to the pop stations or the other stations. With the Latino stations, there was so much love and everyone is so genuine. I’m just jealous that I wasn’t born Latina. I wish I had been because the culture is so beautiful. I’m very grateful Latinos are embracing me. [ CLICK HERE TO READ FULL INTERVIEW ]

I hate to be blunt, but you can’t be that popular and consistently be unable to give a proper interview. She really needs to take some classes in public speaking, ASAP! Also, I would have to agree with Brown Sista and say Beyonce was probably doing some “butt-kissing” and it just came out wrong. Now, let’s see how this new “b-drama” is going to unfold.

What’s your take on her comment?

  2. SUMMER

ass-kisser never have I wanted to be another race but my own. Black

  3. SUMMER

I wonder what her AA female fans think of her now?

  4. Nic

Yeah, home girl is pretty slow. She’s been on top of the world for too damn long to not no what to say out her mouth…I knew she was dumb -_-x

  5. MZ. MOODY

I love Beyonce to death. That’s my girl, but she really need to stop lying. Yeah I think that some good butt kissing

  6. yeah, definitely some butt-kissing. she’s been all over mtv3 (tres), which is the latino MTV. I think it’s because she just released b’day like, in spanish or something.

  7. cdnyc

    Angel,

I agree that Beyonce was probably doing some MAJOR “butt-kissing” when she made that statement and it just came out the wrong way. And who knows maybe she said it a different way and the magazine printed it like they wanted. Magazines have been known to “twist” celebrities words.

But I also agree with you that you can’t be this popular and not be able to give a proper interview. I like Beyonce and I think she’s a great entertainer, but she really needs to work on her communication skills. I”ve always given her the benefit of the doubt, but she needs to do better.

  8. M-SAW

NOW THATS Y I DON’T LIKE HER NOW!! EVERYTIME SHE DON SUMETHIN SHE ON DA NEWS!! (SARCASIM) SHE IS SO SO SO SO SO SO SOOO OVERRATED!! AND THAT IS Y LATINOS THINK THEY BETTER THAN BLACKS!! BECAUSE BLACK FOLKS LIKE HER, GLORIFY THEIR CULTURE MORE THAN HER OWNS. THIS IS SUM BULL!!

  9. SUMMER

After taking time reading this interview it proves that she’s such an air-head. Even if she didn’t mean it why sell-out to please other races? or was she showing her true colors?

  10. The_One_The_Only

Yup she was saying what she thought needed to be said to appeal to that audience. It wasn’t the right thing to say, however she meant it as a complimen. Admittedly others could see it as her not being proud of her own culture. But I guess. I don’t see it as a big deal. She’s trying to sell records.

  11. SHE’S AN ASS-KISSER..I KNO THOSE LATINOES WAS TALKIN BOUT HER WHEN SHE LEFT SAYIN SHIT IN SPANISH LIKE “THAT BITCH LYIN MA-MIII”

  12. Yea she might have been brown-nosing, but what do expecct from a girl who has the personality of a robot. When she doesn’t have a speech prepared, she always sounds like a dumbass. Stay in school kids..everybody can’t be a rockstar.

  13. okay i guess the statement was more of a compliment than her actually wanting to be latina

  14. GoldenGrillz_06

I dont see the big deal, she was probably just being sarcastic.

  15. dee dee

We all know that Beyonce is not well spoken, this is just another example. I think she was trying to pay Hispanics a compliment and had no idea that the way this came out could offend her own culture. She needs a media spokesperson and she needs to not answer any questions until she runs it by them for a check first. With all of her resources and as long as she has been doing this, you would think she would have gotten a lot better at public speaking.

  16. wwifey

I think she should run for office…with comments like that. VOTE BEYONCE! oh my bad Beyoncita…..

  17. Jola

Was there a thread on Keke Wyatt’s recent ourageous racial comments? They deserve some attention.

  18. I agree 100% with M-Saw. Then people wonder why her momma is always there with her at interviews. It’s because they know they got a dumb ass daughter who is likely to say the wrong things.

I am somewhat of a fan of Beyonce. I like her old music, but I do think she is over-rated and over-worshipped. I can see this statement coming out wrong and people taking it to mean she is not proud to be black. Although I don’t think she meant it that way, it’s like come on now, you are 26 years old now…You shouldn’t be that much of a ding bat…But then again, you can’t learn common sense in school.

  19. Aziajs

Who cares? I am sure she wasn’t trying to be offensive. People are making something out of nothing.

  20. VirgoDoll

I love her to death but “What the hell”? I’m confused because I remember seeing an interview where she stated that she was a proud black woman….B must’ve been tired because it isn’t the Latinas that have made her ass rich, it’s the black is she going to wish she were white next? Like I said I’m a huge fan but she kinda pissed me off with that comment.

  21. gg boo

I don’t know about that one….Surely she just should have left it at saying she appreciates the Latin culture – maybe made some parallels between her own and the the Latino community. She bumbled it, no biggie..

Angel you a mess for putting that picture up to fan the flames!! LOL!

  22. Mercedes

SMH* I mean, I’m sure she didn’t mean it to come out the way it did but wtf, how can you be so dense? No common sense, whatsoever. And I definitely co-sign w/ #12 on that, “Stay in school, kids. Everybody can’t be a rockstart” comment. That is the truth!

  23. This doesn’t surprise. bey has always (in my opinion) been a knock off of Shakira or J. Lo in the looks department.

Not as well spoken as many make her out to be. She’s about as dingy as Paris

  24. SweetLesa

This is so ignorant. Why can’t we as black people, just love who we are. Stop always trying to be soemthing that you are not! S.F.B. (S— For Brains)!!!

She should know better than this by now!

  25. Softest Place On Earth

I don’t know what to say, I mean she feels that she has to suck up to everybody just for them to buy her music then so be it. I mean she said she loved drag queens and all that other nonsense, so this is not a suprise.

  26. Bre

whoa bey. i wonder how she could clean up this mess. i’m a firm believer, ass kissing or not, that u ALWAYS say ur true feelings first. after that it’s just clean up bullshit.

  27. Kesh

She was definitely attempting to “butt-kiss” and it came out wrong!

  28. ms. dyme

It’s not a secret that beyonce isn’t really all that smart. She should have just gave a compliment without alienating her own race by saying she wish she was a latina. Dumb ass inarticulate broad.

  29. Lady

MAYBE BEYONCE JUST HAS COMPLEX ISSUES REGARDING BEINGA BLACK WOMAN. ALTHOUGH THIS DOESN’T MAKE IT RIGHT- TRUTHFULLY, MANY WOMEN DO. FOR EXAMPLE, BEYONCE SAID, IN REPLY TO THEIR NEW VIDEO, “BEAUTIFUL LIAR”, WITH HER AND SHAKIRA- THAT SHE COULD NOT TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HER AND SHAKIRA ON MORE THAN ONE OCCAISION….
    RIGHT.
SHAKIRA IS A 4’11 BEAUTIFUL WOMAN WITH BLONDE CURLY HAIR AND YOU ARE 5’6, PRETTY NONETHELESS, A BIT MORE GOLDEN TONED WITH HONEY BLONDE EXTENSIONS SUITABLE FOR A BALCK WOMAN.. THERE IS A DIFFERENCE…
BUT YES- AS SAID BEFORE, MANY OF US BLACK WOMEN HAVE A COMPLEX. I KNOW I HAVE MY INSECURITES, THAT’S WHY I LET MY HAIR GROW LONG PAST MY BRA STRAP AND I FEAR CUTTING IT BECAUSE “LONG HAIR ON A BLACK WOMAN COMES OFF AS APPEALING” (IN THE WORDS OF MY EX). THAT’S WHY, DOMINICAN WOMEN WILL CONTINUE TO BLOW OUT YOUR HAIR AND THEIRS, BONE STRIAGHT TO ACHIEVE A MORE ATTRACTIVE, “EUROPEAN LOOK”. MAYBE THAT’S WHY CELEBS, SUCH AS TYRA, JLO, AND KIMORA, HAVE SHAVED INCHES DOWN OFF THEIR NOSE IN ORDER TO HIGHLIGHT THE BRIDGE IN THE MIDDLE FOR A MORE, POINTY, “WHITE” PROFILE SHOT.
THEN AGAIN- MAYBE SHORTY JUST REALLY FELT LIKE SUCH A COMMENT WAS A GOOD PLOY FOR MARKETING. WHO KNOWS.

  30. Maybe she was just trying to kiss some butt to sell more records cuz lawd knows this last album sucked!!

  31. Lady

*OOPS- OCCASION, AND A SPACE BETWWEN “BEING” AND “A”
ENGLISH MAJOR- I CAN’T STAND WHEN I MAKE TYPOS.

  32. Someone always staying out of conflict shouldn’t have said that but she should start being more blunt. Let keep it real…pop, rock, and hip hop stations and magazines speak about fashion, love lives, and scandal. They all give the same interview, with the exception of Sister2Sister. I love magz but it’s the truth. She probably doesn’t get pressure to speak about Jay-Z or falling or nonsense on Latino stations. I’m not the biggest fan or against her. I couldn’t do what she does. I’d like the money but I could stand the attention and 18-24 hours of work. I’d hate every mainstream US station and magz asking the same questions or trying to trick or pressure me into answering something I didn’t want to. She wants this lifestyle and knows what comes along with it and deals with it and I think she is speaking the truth. But fans of any race will build you up to tear you down. Non-Latin Americans shouldn’t be stereotyped.

  33. Lord Hannibal

She should be wishing she’d think and then speak. Pandering is one thing but she went overboard. For all of her talent, she is perhaps the most consistently ignorant performer in recent memory. If she’d been born Latina, she wouldn’t be nearly as successful as she is now. Imbicile.

  34. ms. dyme

Keke is an air-head too. Her and beyonce both need some public speaking classes. They don’t know what to say without sounding ignorant or insensitive.

  35. Ms. Risi

My Goodness…..I think she was just expressing her appreciation for being welcomed by a new audience…those weren’t the right words to use…or it could have been twisted to make it sound offensive…god the media wants to take probably what was a misuderstanding and blow it out of proportion…I’m pretty sure there was a time in everybody’s life where they said something REALLY bad or stupid and they wish they could take it back! At any age……we are human…nobody’s perfect…

  36. ~B

If you read the rest of the interview she sounds like a child. Not a good look.

  37. Annette

    o.O

Wow I’m from Texas and why we get the dumbasses like Beyonce and Jessica Simpson? I’m so shamed. Just to set the record straight every chick outta Texas is not as stupid as these two lol.

  38. PG

I think the weight of her weave has caused her become even more lightheaded. At the end of the day you are what you are.

  39. TayNae

she just keeps digging her own career grave. poor child doesn’t have one bit of a clue. and y’all know what? this will have no effect on her career. it will get sweep under the rug and she will continue to sell tons of records… with or without black folks. that’s hollywood!!

  40. Candace

She’s stupid. I am so over her.

  41. Please, thats like a black American saying she wishes she was Jamaican. A black person from Jamaica is still black. I am latina and I am as black as they come so what is she selling out exactly? You can be a black latina. Maybe I just see it differently so someone please explain the outrage.

  42. brittney

i dont understand the big deal…………this comment is not even a big thing…..im sure she was being sacastic…….who really gives a fuck…….people love to speculate about nothing……jus because she says she jelous shes not latino all of a sudden shes not pround of being black…i mean beyonce will neva stop b3eing talked about…..eveybody is tired of her…..but everybody wana talk about her………..jesus

  43. Cali

Well duh she wants to be Latina…everyone knows she copied J lo all the way to wanting to be known for having a big butt…

  44. Oh, and lets be honest… most African Americans claim to be “Indian” (Native Amer.) and many black Latinos with skin and hair like mine don’t accept being called black. We are Afro. Amer, Afro-Latino, Haitian, Caribbean, African, and many other races and ethnicities. Our moder hip-hop culture has accepted and embraced Latinos whether they are of African decent or not. This is a beautiful thing. Let’s not get on her for wanting a little Latin blood and wanting to grow up knowing the lingo and culture when our last two female hosts on a BET show were Latino of non African Decent. Our magazines report info on popular Latin stars. 4 or 5 of the women on BET’s top 25 most beautiful Black women were Latinos that weren’t black. Hey, I wouldn’t mind having Daniel Sunjata, Frankie G, Adam Rodriguez (CSI), Jorge Santiogo (UFC), or Ricardo Chavira on some of our countdown and magazines. There are beautiful people (like in any ethnicity), a beautiful language, delicious food, and a beautiful culture. The women are really accepted in hip-hop and pop and she is one of the only African Americans accepted into their culture. I can see what Beyonce would like to have experienced more of.

  45. @2, that’s why ur not famous….

This isn’t something that shouldn’t be blown out of proportion. She was just being accomidating to the people she was around. Nothing more. But this will get slack because this is Beyonce…if it was Whoopi Goldburg or Danny Glover we’d laugh and say who gives a sh*t! haha!

  46. FABULOUS

I don’t think she ment it in a way of putting down her race. But more as a compliment to the latinas. But I mean, people aren’t gonna take the time and do the “well what she ment was” they’re gonna just read what she said and run with it. Nobody’ll be thinking about this in a few days, so it’s nothing. LOVE YA BEE!

  47. :)

Beyonce is so slow we should’ve expected this from someone who only uses elegant as a big vocabulary word i like beyoncce but come on in the article she also says that her bestfriend is cuban, now all of a sudden her best friend is cuban whateva

  48. Landon

THAT IS JUST LIKE YOU’RE SAYING THAT YOU ARENT HAPPY WITH BEING BLACK. SHE WAS TRYING TO KISS THEM LATINAS ASS AND SHE SAID THE WRONG THING. B-DAY SUCKED MAJOR ASS AND THEM LATINAS ARE PROBABLY THE ONLY ONES WHO BOUGHT IT

  49. Oh Lawd..Let the drama begin
(I can’t lie tho, the statement did throw me off)

  50. Lula Pear

She was working: her Spanish album only sold 6,000 copies and it’s at like #105 on the Spanish charts. It’s just business, people. Go Beyonce!

  51. I’m glad to see you say that THOMIAN b/c I know dominicans and other black latinos of different ethnicities that refuse to accept being black. See # 47.

  52. Hope

I agree with comment 48 I don’t think she ment for the comment to come as if she hates being in the rich culture of blackness, she just wanted to you know give them a compliment. I wonder if she ever heard the comment think before you speak!! There a reason for that! And yeah I think she could have said that diffently like “Latino’s have such a rich culture and I love learning about it.”I can’t wait to see what people will be saying about this

  53. Ms. Risi

Amen #46…..I’m a black Latina and I’m proud of it! But the majority of my family thinks I’m crazy for thinking that! Yet people like the ones you spoke of are blinded by the white man’s standards of appearance….like it is the only standard! I learned civilization started in Africa….and some historians swear like it didn’t…well it did ladies and gentleman…..some people’s ancestors just left earlier than others…….lol

  54. I think it definitely came out wrong, but I think people will believe what they want depending on what they think of her.

  55. ms. dyme

Of course she didn’t mean to put down her own race and that’s the sad part about it. She doesn’t think before she speaks; she was so caught up in trying to please a certain demographic of her fan base that she unintentionally and unconsciously put down her own race.

  56. Dame

Her comment is the reason why she should think Bee 4 she speaks. I’m still a fan tho.

  57. latina is not a race so i dont see the whole downing the black race thing. she could have said she admired it other than ” i wish i was latina”

  58. i dont know. her statement seems like a slight attack against the black & pop radio stations…maybe she’s saying she feels more love from the Latin community because everyone else seems to stay hating. I also have to agree with Brian, because she has been doing a lot of promotion for her “Irrempezable” CD, and thats been all over MTV Tres.

All that being said, I still think that she slipped up by saying this. And I mean slipped up BIG TIME. A LOT of people (black people especially) are going to have a field day with this, simply because she made a statement that was not put together very well. She was probably excited and couldn’t get her thoughts together properly. I’ve seen her do that quite frequently in interviews. Maybe a little more media training would help with that…Personally, I’m gonna chalk it up to her being a below average speaker. If she meant what she said THE WAY SHE SAID IT, then, wow that’s a shame. But I’m pretty sure she would never say anything to intentionally spark a firestorm with her fans, her friends and her family.

    Also….ROTFL @#40!!! ha ha.
