BEYONCE: “I’M JUST JEALOUS THAT I WASN’T BORN LATINA”

Beyonce stirs debate yet again //
Believe it or not, Beyonce has stirred up more debate across the internet again. The singer who was recently interviewed by Latina Magazine, spoke on her cross-over appeal, as well as her success with singing in Spanish.
When she was asked a question about her Latina fans, Beyonce responded with a comment that is sure to cause some drama around her camp. Read on:
Latina: What’s one thing that you’d like to tell your Latina fans?
Beyonce: I would thank them for embracing me. I did radio (promotions) this morning for hours and hours and I noticed a big difference between speaking to all of the Latino stations and speaking to the pop stations or the other stations. With the Latino stations, there was so much love and everyone is so genuine. I’m just jealous that I wasn’t born Latina. I wish I had been because the culture is so beautiful. I’m very grateful Latinos are embracing me. [ CLICK HERE TO READ FULL INTERVIEW ]
I hate to be blunt, but you can’t be that popular and consistently be unable to give a proper interview. She really needs to take some classes in public speaking, ASAP! Also, I would have to agree with Brown Sista and say Beyonce was probably doing some “butt-kissing” and it just came out wrong. Now, let’s see how this new “b-drama” is going to unfold.
What’s your take on her comment?

@66, That’s what wrong with this world. too many people feel like people owe them something. Beyonce doesn’t owe anything to you as far as saying she wish she was latino…hell, if she wish she was half chinese and australian it’s her perogotive. The same as if Jlo or Shakira both said tomorrow they wish they were black…so! They don’t owe anything to their race. We may fit in the same ethinicty, but Beyonce’s sould isn’t bound to yours…this goes beyond race, that’s with life in general. People don’t owe you anything. If you want something in life, you do the work!

In the interview she said her one of her bestfriends is cuban and they were excited when she was working with that latin singer. She said the exact same thing when she did the people magazine interview. I guess she has some script they made up for her.
These comments are great! Nobody has said anything really stupid yet!

I want to know why, if they’ve embraced her so much, they didn’t buy the album??? I had a professor who was obsessed with Beyonce, a Spanish professor (though she claimed her parents were dignitaries who insisted they speak proper English. Go figure.)…Anyway, I bet they’re embracing her looks, not her music… The few awards are the equivalent of Britney’s seventy trillion albums sold….

Beyonce is a blatant idiot! I would of course like to applaud CL for finally realizing the fact that Beyonce gives terrible interviews. Her answers are the same mono-tone generic giberish for every question in every interview she has ever done. It’s like she’s been programmed to do it that way. But you can’t go against the machine, you go against it’s maker. Beyonce doesn’t just give bad interviews, the girl can’t speak at all and it’s mainly because she’s not educated the way she needs to be. I guess her big shot no holds bar father didn’t think of that when he’s pimping her to the media. First she only makes her music for black people and now she wishes she was latina… And we have young girls who actually look up to her… Beauty isn’t everything people and it will eventually fade if Tina Knowles is anything to go by, lol, however, dumb is forever! And it’s does also reflect in her music and if you don’t know what I’m talking about just go back and listen to every track on her albums including those of Destiny’s Child. She is 26 for godsakes you would think that as much as she focuses on stabbing her so called friends or ex bandmates in the back, and her horrible acting that she would care as much about her speech. It’s just really really really sad! Let’s set the standards higher people. That said, what do you think her and Jay talk about… I’ve heard Jay speak and he seems somewhat intelligent and articulate enough I can’t imagine how they’ve last this long. I guess love does conquer all because I couldn’t get with someone who stuck on basic 4th grade English!

beyonce is self obsessed
shes dosnt talk about anything but herself when she speaks…
the look of her face has become sickening to me because shes so trapped by her “looks” its sad,,
people are too busy loving the fact that shes sucessful and has money to realize how shallow she has become,,,
seeing her shake her ass on the stage that nelson mandela sat on did it for me…
i dont respect her at all…

I’m not surprised. Why? Because she’s illiterate. Because she “thinks” she’s some sort of business person with the House of Dereon and because she’s managed to accumulate a few hits, we’ve automatically credited her intellect account with all these points. She’s not bright. I’ve heard her speak before and it just makes me cringe (anybody remember how dumb she looked when she was called out on tape about the PETA fur coat thing?)
OK - maybe that’s a bit harsh. But I will say that she probably meant to say, “I’ve always been fascinated by Latino heritage. Latinos have a rich and full culture that’s just infectious to be around. And to know that I have Latino fans is really flattering and actually very uplifting. I love all of my Latino bros and sisters.”
This is what happens when you go from H.S. to stardom. (Take a note. Learn from the mistakes of others, kids.)

Kelly was right when she said on Wendy’s show that the bitch is never herself. always faking.

Nah, I don’t think she meant to put us down…I don’t think it was self-loathing, I think it was capitalism…She was trying to move records… She did release some sort of Spanish album and it sold only 6K copies and it’s like #105 on the charts…that’s what I heard… She was just trying to sell records and being insincere and put her foot in her mouth…
Honestly, I’m not a Beyonce fan…I think she can sing, I definitely think that, but the stuff she sings is ridiculous…it’s like Aretha Franklin singing a catalog of Britney Spears songs….that’s what Beyonce is to me…

I feel you on what you say. She can say what ever she wants, but she does owe it to the people that paved the way for her to become who she to be true to herself and to her people that made and continue to make her what she is. The fact of the matter is she is no longer selling records, but selling herself. She is way beyond famous, why does she still feel the need to kiss ass? She has enough money to last her 3 lifetimes. There is no way for anyone to justify what she said. That was pure ignorance.

I know some people who have trouble expressing their thoughts, opinions or feelings due to a lack of schooling or poor education by some of the schools that they have attended so on that note I can understand a person using words of out context. However, I think Beyonce knew exactly what she was saying and while many deem her as an airhead I believe she said what many black women feel which is both sad and unbelievable at this point in history. What I found most amazing about these comments was that Beyonce has the physical features that many darker skinned black women think is “beautiful ” yet she still would rather be something other than what she is. If I was a person from another nation and came to this country as a visitor and looked at magazines, billboard ads and television I would think that there was only one color that is seen as beautiful and flawless and for that society plays a big part in the imbalance. However, we as people must not define what is “beautiful” based on others perceptions. This task may be difficult because not everyone has high self esteem but if something is not done to make each individual who feels as though they are less than another person based solely on the color of their skin or shape of their bodies we will continue with an endless cycle of self hate and self loathing.

And, please, people of Mexican descent on this site, please don’t think I mean that her being “special friends” with a Mexican guy is in anyway bad or inappropriate… The only thing shocking about it was he was a “thug” I guess, as he was in jail. He did, I heard, say they were “friends” so I don’t think that meant he was screwing her lol I do think it’s funny though that she said she grew up around Latinos in Texas because she knows the population in Texas is massive… She made that up, as sure as I’m sitting here…lol As for mentioning Selena, she’s wrong for that… She’ll say anything….

Simple! My take is that this woman has very little in the way of intelligence, and was caught off guard in an interview yet again.
She cannot articulate or process any meaningful thought on her own, which is why she comes off as dumb during interviews.
The reason she said this foolywang shyt is because she chose to stray away from her normal scripted replies (like the “I can’t cook” shyt that she runs).
Stick to the script next time, Beyonce or go read a book!

I guess its not how Beyonce said it but how it was perceived by others, like you. As I said before I am not going to take her statement literally, she is embracing a culture. OK Ignorants..
Beyounce is a bonnified TOOL as we all know!
#1 Latina is not a culture, it is an ethnicity!!
#2 There is different “Latin Cultures” because it is different cultures in Latin America. So you can be from Trinidad, Brazil, Mexico or Argentina.. And yes…. Africa has a big contribution is all of those cultures..
Beyounce is an uneducated ditz! We are all part of that culture because when our ancestors came on ships, they were divided among the colonies..
And by the way, Hispanic is technically people from Dominican republic and Haiti. There was a time when Hispanola was one island until the French ruled Haiti (not for long) and the Spaniard D.R.
Please people, stop the ignorance and read a book from a reliable source!!
Africans are responsible for all of the major dances and music of the Western hemisphere..
Tango, Rhumba, Salsa, meringue, Zuk, Calypso, Reggae, Soca, Kaiso, Samba, Steelpan, drumming, Rap, R&B, ROCK n ROLL, Jazz, Soul, Hip Hop, The Shango culture, etc..
Ignorance is killing our minds!!
Beyounce needs to learn to speak and not sound like a 5 year old. I just think she is the dumbest black woman I have come across that is in the media, just right after KeKe “Pointy Nose” Wyatt!.

Yes, but that’s a phenomenon that will continue because black people, like you said, aspire to be like white people. That’s why I always say that blacks look at the white man as god. All I mean when I say that is that they want to live, breathe, and think in his image. When black people say that they want to be “equal” to whites, all that could possibly mean is that they want to be the white man or be accepted by him because according to the Constitution, black people are already “equal”. Allegedly. Black people are too double-minded. They don’t know what they want so they never get what they need. Your two comments are the perfect example. You went from, in post 71, noticing something that is peculiar to our race and is the absolute truth. Then in post 76 it was like the Americanized mind-control kicked back in, lol. If color doesn’t matter and lineage doesn’t matter, then why do you notice that your black co-workers are more talkative with the white man? It shouldn’t matter to you. Either you see an issue or you don’t. Be consistent. I mean brother, honestly, those two posts were so contradictory and hypocritical, it looked like they were written by two different people.
I think Beyonce just meant to be complimentary to the hispanics and just went a little too far because she’s not really articulate enough to speak tactfully and know how far is too far. It was also probably a Freudian slip because the hispanics are far more supportive of their stars than black people, especially some black women, are of Beyonce. I’ve never heard hispanics speak about Jennifer Lopez like some black women speak about Beyonce. I think because black people are so gifted as a race that all black people feel like they could be where certain black celebrities are, had they gotten certain breaks.

This is just the same inferiority complex shared by some of our most illustrious entertainers - Halle Berry, Wesley Snipes, The Jacksons, Taye Diggs … The list is endless. The fact is, these celebrities don’t know what weight their comments carry with ‘others’ that aren’t black. I have defended and held Beyonce in high esteem based on her work but this kind of thoughtless, shorted sighted comment exposes her for what she is, a tree without roots. Her hurtful disregard of her ancestral heritage is a sad reminder that although long abolished, slavery still haunts us. My wish is our black entertainers, athletes or any other profession with some sort of repute would carefully consider their words before opening theirs mouths. Basically keep their insecurities to themselves!!!!

LMAOOOOO!!!!! Thank you! That’s what it all comes down to. I don’t expect anything else from her but this…. Now had she started explaining the LAW of GRAVITY, then I would have been surprised. What makes me laugh at this post is her few STANS salt and peppered throughout this forum calling some of these people “Haters” for stating the obvious. Hell, even a casual fan, such as myself can say the girl isn’t exactly a scholar. I am also not blind to the fact that BEYONCE is a tad bit OVERRATED in all departments, and has been able to make her money off of being such. Can’t knock the hustle, continue fooling them Beyonce!!
On a side note: I pray that BEYONCE never falls off because her STANS will have a MASS SUICIDE on the Knowles front porch. Poor things. Get some self esteem for yourselves, and quit trying to live through that girl, she’s not worried about you, nor should she be worried about anyone else. If people are making their own money and are fly their d@mn selfs (and are not trying to be entertainers) then why the hell would they be jelous of Beyonce? Exactly. BEYONCE WAS JUST SHOWING SOME LOVE. LATINO IS A CULTURE NOT A RACE AND ONLY PEOPLE WHO FLUNKED SOCIAL STUDIES CLASS WOULD BECOME OFFENDED BY BEYONCE’S STATEMENT. IF BEYONCE SAID THAT SHE WISHED THAT SHE WAS WHITE, NOW THAT WOULD BE A CONTROVERSIAL STATEMENT.

Rantings of a Stan in chipmunk voice:
Back off you fucking haters! Why can’t you dumbass bitches see that Beyonce was just paying a simple compliment to the Latino community! She’s always got shit talked about her, man I hate this fucking site I wish you’d all just kick rocks like the haters you are, fucking bitches, haters! HATERS! You guys just can’t see that we love Beyonce and need her in order to stabilize our own worthless lives, so just leave her the fuck alone and let her shine. You haters aren’t worth shit; she’s laughing all the way to the bank while you analyze this bull and you think you’re bringing her down, but you aren’t, haters, HATERS!!! All of you kick rocks hoes! So the fuck what if she sounds a little less than intelligent in the interview, she’s not a fucking rocket scientist, so she doesn’t have to sound smart, and everyone that thinks she should are just HATERS! Now fuck off you haters, fucking hater ass haters, drink some haterade bitches, hatin’ haterlicious haters!!!

It’s not that serious, she just loves the culture and she paid them a compliment. Besides, Africans are a part of Latin culture, so be easy.

Honestly, I hope this goes no further than here (I say this as I keep coming back to this window lol) because I am glad for the bit of Beyonce break we’ve gotten…She embarrasses me, not her, but our “Beyonce fever” It’s different to lust after her (as many lust after Pamela Anderson and Jessica Simpson) but we take it further…it’s worship, really, it is. I remember hearing, black people “won’t break rank.” Remember Bill Maher said that? About black women not saying rappers (gangster, I guess) were misogynists and harmful to the culture?? And, someone told me that although Justice Thomas is opposed, ideologically, on nearly every issue, we support him fervently because “he is black.” I AM NOT, in any way saying we should not feel a sense of connectedness…but there is a point when it seems blind, foolish. And, that’s the way it is with Beyonce and black people…

I don’t see the big deal. She wants to get in good with the Latinos. So, what? It’s not like she said..she wished she was white. People are too dramatic.

People are just making entirely too much out of the comment. Of course the girl is proud of her African American Heritage. She was just saying in a nut-shell that the hispanice culture embraced her with much love minus the negativity. In other words she wished that her own race and ethnic back ground would do the same minus the negativity and the drama.

OK for the people that don’t understand history..
Here is the problem with Bouncy’s comments:
Black women are at the bottom of the dating chain in this country. We are constantly portrayed as loud, not attractive, ignorant and classless in the media, especially when we are stereotyped by black men in the media (Taye, Wesley, Charles Barkley).
The next thing is that LATINA MAGAZINE doesn’t showcase a variety of Latinas. We tend to see the ones that have more white features, that you would never know that there are a variety of Latin looks. Let’s just say that the darkest we see is Rosario and even she has complex issues. Anyone seen the Spanish Novelas?
NOw this is why Bouncy’s comments are dangerous. You have young girls bombarded with images of what beauty is (WHITE or almost WHITE looking), then you have this idiot saying she is jealous she wasn’t born Latina. Most people think all Latinas look like Daisy fuentes or Jessica “I am not Latina”Herpes-Alba! So these girls will automatically associate beauty + Bouncy’s comments + The few Latina’s in the media.. I know it sounds crazy, but it is so true..
These comments are just going to add to the mounting issues black females face!
Bouncy can praise the Latin community without sounding like an idiot!

#144 about the “loud, classless” thing…Beyonce said it too…As I earlier replied, she said, in that Larry King Live interview with Star Jones, “people didn’t gravitate toward my character because she wasn’t a stereotype. She was classy and understated.” Now what is that, if not perpetuating stereotypes? She thinks it isn’t, but it is…because saying that we did not respond to her character’s classiness makes it seems as though that representation is surreal, farfetched… So, what is that really saying? ?????

*sigh*…you’re exactly right. If you’re going to be as successful as she is you have to learn how to give an interview without putting your foot in your mouth at every turn.

Hey ya’ll, I’m new to this site and happy to join you nice individuals! Funny how my very first post is on miss Beyonce. Hmm, It’s a bit foul for homegirl to say that and I think the chicks needs to take some major classes on public speaking. I mean, even I know you don’t say some stuff like that and know it will get back to the states. Someone of her stature has been trained and taught how to speak and give interviews, but apparently, B missed a few classes. I don’t know, she is still gets brownie points for her business savy and making herself a huge brand, but girly can’t speak in public no more! You all take care and have a good night, I holla!
