BEYONCE: “I’M JUST JEALOUS THAT I WASN’T BORN LATINA”

Beyonce stirs debate yet again //
Believe it or not, Beyonce has stirred up more debate across the internet again. The singer who was recently interviewed by Latina Magazine, spoke on her cross-over appeal, as well as her success with singing in Spanish.
When she was asked a question about her Latina fans, Beyonce responded with a comment that is sure to cause some drama around her camp. Read on:
Latina: What’s one thing that you’d like to tell your Latina fans?
Beyonce: I would thank them for embracing me. I did radio (promotions) this morning for hours and hours and I noticed a big difference between speaking to all of the Latino stations and speaking to the pop stations or the other stations. With the Latino stations, there was so much love and everyone is so genuine. I’m just jealous that I wasn’t born Latina. I wish I had been because the culture is so beautiful. I’m very grateful Latinos are embracing me. [ CLICK HERE TO READ FULL INTERVIEW ]
I hate to be blunt, but you can’t be that popular and consistently be unable to give a proper interview. She really needs to take some classes in public speaking, ASAP! Also, I would have to agree with Brown Sista and say Beyonce was probably doing some “butt-kissing” and it just came out wrong. Now, let’s see how this new “b-drama” is going to unfold.
What’s your take on her comment?

Ok, I’m back. I see some folks want to get their trousers all ruffled and such. Bring it down a notch and smell the cornbread! I’ve been coming here for a while and just now joined. Some cats get upset when others speak their opinion. It’s ok hun, don’t be mad. Now I like Beyonce myself and heck she is human like the rest of as and some people just say dumb stuff without knowing it. I hope no one goes off on me for being real. I respect ya and will continue to so long as I can get it back.
Now, Beyonce is crazy for her remark and I’m sure she will catch some flack for it and when she does, she will maybe retract her comments if a) the media blows it up and takes it out of context (according to her crazy parents of course) and b) she tries to regergitate (sp?) her comments. Until then, the heffa will be known as miss “Flunky in speech class 101″! Peace to all of you, and be blessed as well.

“Leave Beyonce alone! She meant no harm. People always trying to look for the worst in her. But she is in God’s Favor. This why she’s so successful! People who are greatly successful catch hell, but all you haters are doing is making her more famous and powerful. She just an awsome Celebrity, this to all you haters! Kick Rocks!!!”
Thank you so much! People can say what they want (deny that you are a hater if you want to) but she is still a blessed person for A REASON. And after this I will still enjoy & support her. So just calm down and eat a bologna and cheese sandwich!!! Pe@ce

I think its hypocritical to criticize Beyonce for ‘dissing’ her culture, when the majority of us (Beyonce included) don’t know about our own. When our kids grow up learning more about hip hop, than our African heritage. When we continue to support artists that refer to women as bitches and hoes, and each other as niggas. Sometimes I wish I was apart of a culture of unity, not degradation and separation. Sometimes I wish I was apart of a culture of peace, not violence and anger. Everyone’s so quick to say hip hop is dead. F hip hop. Our culture is dead. Blogs and other outlets have divided and scrutinized us, instead of uniting and lifting us up. If only we could get this hyped up, and contact our local politicians and demand changes in our educational systems. We’ll rather write about a pop singer’s faux pas, than the president’s continued and purposely misleading statements about the state of our troops. My point is, if you want to get on a high horse, choose a taller one. Because, there are so many issues affecting you that you could change with as quick of a response you gave Beyonce.

She just sounded so ignorant she really should have think before she said that damn stupid. O well I pretty sure she said it too push that damn B’Day album as a latina I’m tired of hearing that same ol’ ish it didn’t sound good in english it sure as hell doesn’t in spanish. I didnot find bee’s comment offensive, because she is expressing an opinion. i am very confident in my skin and with loving who i am as a “woman of color”! but once ina blue moon everyone has a moment of thought being someone othe than who they are now. I mean it was just a fantasy nothing serious, and yall “haters” out there placed alot of drama in this woman life its just a good thing she championed through it all. seriously she probably wished she was of another race based on all the drama african americans expose her to. still have luv for ya babygirl!

WOW!!! I really like Beyonce…. a lot, but that one comment-
I’m not surprised but quite disappointed. I don’t think it was “ass kissin” at all. It seems like over recent years, Beyonce has been trying convince everyone and make it clear that she’s not “full black”, making sure we all know that she’s Creole. She’s black when it’s convient but she defitnitely makes sure “she doesn’t offend {whitey}” or that “{they} feel comfortable around her”. I remember when I use to feel/think like that. When I was younger and dumb, before I found out the truth. Beyonce needs to read that Breaking the Psychological Chains of Slavery, then she’ll be headed to a path of self righteousness and self love. We can sit here and play it off like, “Oh, she just playing (hehehehe)” or “She was wanting her Hispanic fans to feel good”, LIKE HELL! Our sister is lost ya’ll. Pray for her. Sorry I wrote this much. Peace~

Here we go again, jumping on some pointless news about Beyonce and making it an issue.
So she said something ambiguous. Wow. Did she shave her hair off? Hell no, is she on crack and scratching her boyfriends face up?
Are you people so happy with mediocrity that when something special comes along you LOOK for trouble just to try and bring it down to that level of crazy that you love i.e. Spears, Winehouse and Lohan.
You guys are pathetic and as a voice for the black online community, its a shame that you are praising perhaps one of the only good role models for our community left. Oh wait, I guess you praise Rihanna so that surely makes up for it *rolls eyes*

More interesting to me is what’s the deal with people from the Caribbean of OBVIOUS AFRICAN ANCESTRY…CUBANS & DOMINICANS ESPECIALLY-and their outright denial and shame at being Black. I am a light-skinned American born brotha’…and when I lived in Miami I remember some episodes where women were extremely warm and inviting. That is until I told them I was American & Black.GAME OVER.White is right?
I’ve noticed this about Colombians too.

She’s giving props to the Latino culture because they really are an affectionate loving group of people. && #75 holla at me gurl kuhsz yu took tha words right out of my mouth. LOL at people making statements like “im SURE she didn’t,” or “she didn’t mean it that way.” Unless you are a mind reader, how do you know EXACTLY what she meant.
Sorry, i take people at their words…and she said she’s jealous she wasn’t born latina. Say what you want, but i believe her. Everything about her says she feels this way, big ass long ass lacefronts all the time (she can’t go pee without one on), the heavy makeup, even the natural look is heavy makeup. Every year she seems to distance herself from her black heritage more and more in terms of her appearance. In 3 years, trust, we won’t recognize her. She jacked Shakira’s style before most black people even knew who Shakira was…i have actually heard people say Shakira is copying Beyonce! Oh my God, Shakira was huge before beyonce’s solo career took off. Shakira was big when Beyonce was with Destiny’s child. Shakira even did a pepsi or coke (can’t remember which one) before Beyonce did it.
Beyonce is fake, has always been fake, and i dont think none of us know the real her, and that’s the way she wants it. Nothing about her seems original, and i mean nothing. She steals dance moves from other people and claim she made it up, she steals songs lyrics and claim she’s a song writer (not just a hook writer), and lord, i can go on. I don’t know the real her, but i know what we are presented with is fake because she makes contradictory statements all the time. She lies like the wind blows. And she seems to do it all for maintenance of a unrealistic image.
I sincerely feel sorry for the young girls who will be hurt by this statement. People are trying to minimize what she said, but the fact is that she said it, no matter the reason. Some young girls might be confused by this, and won’t INFER anything of this statement, they’ll simply take her at her word as i did with this statement.
I wish some people would just keep their biscuit eating mouth shut if all they’re going to do is cause a ruckus when they open it. People say beyonce is intelligent, but i can’t tell cause everything is done for her. Can someone name one thing that she’s been successful at that she’s actually done on her own, without the assistance of her mother, father, sister, pr crew, marketing team, dance teacher, and the camel? I would sincerely like to look at her differently, but i’m a realist, just can’t see it.

Personally, I wouldn’t sweat it. Beywatch is a Black Creole. Anyone who knows those folks know that they don’t consider themselves “100%” black (whatever the HELL that means), anyway. yeah, but i actually don’t think it was a mistake…sounds like she said what she was actually thinking, though it was politically incorrect to some people. And i believe her because 1) she’s grown, and i would think she knows what’s coming out of her mouth and she know’s she’s on a interview. True, people can mis-speak, however, there are decisions she’s made in her life in fthe public’s eye that supports this statement of her wanting to be “latina” in my eyes. 2) Like i said, her appearance, jacking shakira’s style, now admitting she’s always loved shakira, doing a cross over album marketed toward the latino communities. Just too many arrows pointing in that direction. And alot of people have similar thoughts of coveting features or traits of another race/culture, but just keep these thoughts to themselves as not to harm others. But when you are a big name like Beyonce, to me, you sort of have a responsibility to watch what comes out of your mouth. You know, mistake or not, seriously, i can see some young black girls who worship her sincerely hurt by this statement, whether she mis-spoke or not.

I think if we could all stop acting like celebrities are the spokespeople for truth, things would be a lot easier.
Beyonce says dumb shit. So does her boyfriend. So do all his artists. IT HAPPENS.
How many times have YOU been misunderstood or quoted wrong? I can say I hate beans and rice.. and 50 minutes from now, it’ll be.. “She said she hates Mexicans. They smell like beans and rice”. In general, people twist up your words.. and people say dumb things. Theres probably someone thinking Im racist and Im attacking Mexicans. “Cause being Mexican isnt just about eating beans and rice. Stereotype!”. *sigh. People take lint and try to make dust balls. Its just not that serious.
Of course Latina magazine was going to print that part. How many people are going to go buy the magazine? LOTS! And how many more people are going to buy the copy next month after exposure to this one? LOTS. C’mon.. its business. She could have said a lot more after “I wish I was Latina……”.. but they can only make the interview so long.

I think from young as soon as little girls are exposed to the “media” we develop complexes about our culture and our skin colors unaware of the fact that every culture that is a culture especially latin culture (being that we are all one) originated from the African culture. I think beyonce making that comment as a sucessful black woman whether light or dark is wrong whether it was because she was ass kissing or not. There are a lot of little girls and grown women that look up to her and are proud that she is a sucessful black woman and her making that comment was really unnecessary. i know she didn’t mean or want for that comment to come out the way that it did but it did. I forgive her because she unfortunately does not know any better.

Sounds like a bunch shouda, woulda, coulda, and none of the “this is what she said.”
Sounds like excuses, maybe she meant this, maybe she said more and it was cut, whatever. The only thing people can comment on here is what is actually posted here on the blog. And maybe what she said was taken out of context, but actually, she shouldn’t went no where near a statement of that sort. Most entertainers have classes and coaches for this kind of stuff. She’s in the game long enough to know what’s forbidden terrritory…She makes damn sure before the interview starts that they don’t ask her about certain things, she tells them what areas they can question her on…..So it’s not far fetched for her fans to hold her responsible for what comes out of her trap. And you’re right, things can get twisted, and you gave the example of not liking beans and rice, and it be miscontrued that you don’t like mexicans. But everyone knows that celebrities should keep their likes and dislikes to themselves for political reasons, that’s “making a star 101.” I’m sure she’s taken that course. And if not, shame on her. I guess it can’t just simply be that the girl actually feels this way cause no one wants beyonce to fall off that pedestal. But i think stans more than anyone else expect that girl to be perfect….everyone else thats objectional can see her faults and strengths. I don’t think public speaking and knowing what to say is her strength, that’s why someone is usually always around for her interviews. I don’t see Ushers mom, Brandy’s mom, and Ashanti’s mom, sweating them on their interviews like Beyonce’s mom stay doing. But i believe we can now see the reason for that.

#182…I gotta disagree with ya, well sorta, you’ll see…
I am one of those people, a mind reader, I guess lol, as I believe it was merely opportunistic…she was sucking up, trying to move units. I’m sure she knows their history, similar to our own, with lookism (color complexes, namely) so I bet she knew she had to really turn it on to sell herself to them, “I wish I was born a latina” makes them want to excuse her skin (which, although light, is olive toned in comparison to their own).
But, I agree with you about her insincerity and constant illiterate contradictions. We watched a BET special on her a few years ago, and she said, to an interviewer “”I believe young girls should eat, have fun, enjoy their lives instead of worrying about diets and things like that.” And, it wasn’t two minutes later that she hinted, as a child might, at wanting a turkey dog and milk shake. A hint which her handler caught and shot down. The woman shook her head, really, shook her head and said “no, we got a video next week. Everything’s got to be tight” I promise you, I’ve seen few things more pathetic in my life. I felt sorry for her.
I’ve said many spiteful, disparaging things about her in this topic because…well, there is no excuse, I wanted to taunt her stans because I find hilarious, even the idea that she writes profound and artistic songs, that she designs individual, fashion forward pieces, that she is a believable actress… In other words, I wanted to lol. BUT I know that, ultimately, she is a great singer and even greater beauty…but as I am a realist (I am too, JSCENE) I know that she’s been overextended to the point of being almost a caricature.

I hear you…but can she even ass-kiss right? I mean there’s a way to do it where you don’t hurt any other race/sex groups. And why ass-kiss if you’re “beyonce.” Something must be going wrong in peddling this cd, cause if those numbers are true as you quoted them at $6,000 oh my land, she’s not getting much support from the latino communities, cause it’s more of them than us, and only $6,000 was purchased! That can’t be right.
I don’t think it was rehearsed, and i think she just had a moment of “telling the truth,” at a lost of words to answer the interviewers questions, and for once, she didn’t have the benefit of some sort of script.
This will not hurt beyonce one bit…i’m sure her father (the clean up man) will clean this one right on up. And for the next couple of outings, she’ll be accompanied by her mother.

It ain’t even no big deal… she said what she said has a compliment.. nothing else … I don’t think people would have been half has bothered if ‘Mary J Blige’ or ‘Brandy’ or someone else said it … It’s not a biggie, just a compliment

Beyonce is pathetic. She is not articulate, and this is not the first time she has put her foot in her mouth. I saw her on MTV3 last week on TRL saying that she tells people she’s Dominican…. what a fool.
Her parents were so busy pimping her to the music industry, she never received an education, besides lessons on beginners, intermediate and advanced booty shakin’… and what’s even worse is I bet you she does not think anything is wrong with what she said…
She is really sad, and a reminder to all people to stay in school and be true to who you are.

WOW WHAT A DUMB ASS BITCH…THIS CHICK IS RIDICULOUS…AND THIS IS WHAT YA’LL BLACK SISTERS LOOK UP TO? THIS IS THE FEMALE YOU CALL YOUR IDOL? WOOOOW Someone who can sing a tune but can’t speak proper English…someone who seems smart….but is a fuckin air- head…Beyonce is ridiculius..she is a super star with alot of money so feel there is nothing that can be done to stop her. because she got it all now…so it really wouldn’t give a fuck to her what her fans say about her. She is dumb…I wish I can pistol whip her ass all the way to Spain…since she loves Spanish people so much.

@201, JSCENE
Nah, it won’t hurt her because people don’t care what she says…I mean, everyone agrees that she’s illiterate, it’s a general consensus, but no one cares because they’re too busy looking at her lol Now, they’ve added Jessica Biel, Jessica Alba, Johansen, the chick from Transformers… I mean, it’s all about looks now, everything entertainment is essentially one perverted peep show.
And, it turns out that her “sex appeal” is biting her in the butt, as our culture becomes more and more obsessed with looks, they divorce themselves from more meaningful things… So, you’ve got a situation where they don’t care how well she sings, they just want to look… And, as I said, since she has to compete with newer sex kittens (and, she’s slogging in that competition now) she finds herself in the situation where she’s not quite as hot and her actual talent (singing) is irrelevant. And, because of all this, she will fade into some sort of curious campy idol, touring arenas with her sequins and wigs and particular, sparse crowd (or “lambs” is it, Mariah says)

LOL at Jscene. You don’t like Beyonce, huh. I’ve noticed that since I’ve started coming to CL, you be one of the main people going at Beyonce. I think all of the arguing is funny. I actually read the article a week ago. Both haters and stans think they know what’s really happening, yet we all have no idea. It’s funny how we can analyze a person’s psyche, and probably never seen them in person.
In all, I think Beyonce needs to improve her PR skills. I don’t think she meant anything by it, however it is not a good look to be rambling at the mouth like that.

Bey needs to hire a spokesperson. Every time she opens her mouth, if not to sing, she lowers the pole for dumb blonds.

I cannot speak for JSCENE, I do not want to, either…but I will say it: I don’t like her. Is that rewarding to the people who seem to have wanted, so long, for someone to overtly say it?? Well, I have, now. I do not like Beyonce.
Unfortunately, though, it has little to do with Beyonce. Hear me out. I don’t like her because she personifies this blind, thriftless attachment to beauty. I think women envy Beyonce because she’s an oppressing figure, oppressing because someone has decided to imbue, undeservedly, her with all these qualities. She is beautiful, so not only must we recognize her for the talents she possesses, but for those she doesn’t as well. She is an astute writer, a skilled actress, and a fashion savvy woman of the world…and why? Surely, she’s none of those things…but she is, in our culture, because she looks the way she does. In other words, people like looking at her, they like looking, period. So, they want the astute writer, the skilled actress, and the fashion savvy woman of the world to LOOK good, as everything for them is retinal… Ya get me?? Beyonce represents this oppressing occupation with beauty… And, so, I’ll say it. I don’t like her.

like seriously… i read these blogs where they try to be negative and put good people down.. whether it’s cause their life sucks or they are just purely insecure as a person… she obviously just worded what she was saying wrong and you negative people just take it and run with it because you dont have anything else better to do. Shes not dumb, shes not a bad person, shes not racist, shes NOT ashamed of her own race, so stop HATING and GET A LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shes doing good for herself people… just be happy for her and MOVE ON!!!!!!! Get Jesus in ya life..lol!!! peace!

Why are people talking about sending this poor girl back to school?
Dont you know she’s gonna have to go waaaay back and start with Dora the Explorer and Fisher-Price Toys.
This is the same girl that said *intermediate family* and *100% divided attention* do you really think she could finish college?..hmmm
Anywhoo now we know why she never gives interviews without a script….
Funny how the *hottest chick in the game * is also the dumbest.

I’m so GLAD that Martin Luther King, Maya Angelou and Frederick Douglas enjoyed being black as i do!!!! Beyonce is suppose to ba a role model and i feel bad for little girls that wish they had a different heritage. If she had was my child i would be embrassed, especially since her claim to “fame” is her BLACK GIRL BODY and BLACK BOYFRIEND/HUSBAND……. I’m tired of her disrespecting OUR culture. I will not be supporting her anymore

I think people are gonna twist this and run with it. Not saying Beyonce is the brightest bulb in the pack, but I can understand what she was trying to say. They do have a very vibrant culture and it is worthy of envy sometimes when you look at what we’re forced to call “black culture” in the USA. There’s very little to celebrate post 70’s to the present. We’ve been idle for too long and it’s time for our future generation to get out the damn TV and hit the books.

SISTA’S are soooo mean… i can understand what she was trying to say. im AA and sometimes i wish i could be somethin else just cause our people are so harsh on anything you do “you cant make a mistake” with our people! if i was going to be another RACE i would want to be Latino too just because they are alot like AA they have alot of things/ family oriented ways. SHE didnt say “WHITE” yall DAMN….

People need to calm down! It is not like she said she wished she wasn’t black. There are plenty of proud black latinos who rep their dual cultures fully, like Tego Calderon for instance. For people to equate her comment with self hatred is really just complete ignorance because everyone should no by now that “latino” is not a race.

in regards to number 220………………. hating is for people who don’t have lives. I have one with a career, car and husband. So i’m not hating as i stated she is a role model and it doesn’t matter if she was trying to impress someone or not she should have chosen her words better then she did. It’s called thinking before you speak which is obviously YOUR problem and HER. I would hate to have a child who didn’t apperciate where they came from or listen to a adult who thinks wishing they were someone else is acceptable……. so she can go ahead and make mnoney but money will not keep you out of HELL.
