Beyonce, 26, is the latest celebrity spokesperson for American Express. She is pitching their gold and platinum credit cards. Former representatives include Ellen DeGeneres, Tiger Woods, Kate Winslet, Robert DeNiro, and Venus Williams. The campaign is reported to be worth several millions of dollars.
Above is the first ad in what probably is a series of them. Of course Mama Knowles had to be in the shot, if you look fast enough you probably thought it was another one of those House of Dereon ads.
Why should / would Beyonce take a break. That would be so foolish. Right now she is the recognized Black star in America by the major media( like Diana Ross was in her day). She should milk it for every penny its worth. Unfortunately it is not all about the best voice – but having that “it factor ” to pull away from the pack. The media recognizes that people(not the haters here) would tune in to watch a Beyonce performance. Thats why she got that AMX commercial and those movie roles – she is bankable and can produce a return on investment. Let face it, we know that there are many great black performners out there but how many of them would “the man” put his money on?

Beyonce is really beautiful in this ad…but in a VAPID kind of way. The dress and shoes are chic, and the fit very well.

In referrence to part of # 98′s comment.. Actually, there are artists who purposely take breaks during their careers. I.E. Alicia Keys, Aaliyah and various others. Alicia was just on the radio a few days ago saying that her breaks between albums gives her a chance to experience life and grow as a person and an artist and then she’s able to put those experiences in her music Aaliyah for an example, stated herself that she took breaks for herself to grow as well as for the public. She always said that she never wanted to become overexposed and that she wanted to give her fans a chance to miss her. She did that and it worked in her favor.
Of course to each her or his own. Not all artist share the same ideas and not every consumer share the same idea. However as for me, I truely appreciate an artist who puts their all into their work whenever they are working on a project but also understands the importance of creating a balance. While it’s extremely important for an artist to gain exposure it is just as important not to overexpose yourself. Artist need time to grow outside of the light artistically and personally. The general public needs a chance to miss artists & experience new music from other artists. You might be my favorite artist in the world but if I hear you & see you every 10 mins, I will get tired of you. It’s not about hating. Its about a balance.
While it’s cool to a certain extent, that your favorite artist consitantly drops albums every year, but how much more exciting is the anticipation for an album when your favorite artist hasn’t dropped an album in 2 yrs?? For me, it make it 10x’s more exciting. The operative word here is BALANCE.
