As most of you know, I spoke with Kanye West via the phone over the weekend. Since then, I’ve been getting a lot of emails asking when the interview with Kanye was going to be posted. Well I still have to transcribe it, so I’m shooting for this Friday or next week Monday at the latest.
Until then, here are three snippets from the interview. First up, Kanye speaks about whether he has spoken to 50 Cent and the whole album release frenzy. I also attached (2) other snippets (after the cut), where he speaks on the Jena 6 and misconceptions people have about him.
KANYE SPEAKS ABOUT 50 CENT & ALBUM RELEASE
KANYE SPEAKS ABOUT THE JENA 6 SITUATION
KANYE SPEAKS ABOUT MISCONCEPTIONS
Please check back this Friday or next Monday (at the latest) for the full interview. Big big shout out to We Hustle!

Ugh! Oh, Kanye!!!!!! I still dig 50 more…
I’m glad he’s aware of Jena 6 but I still think he should of showed up.
lol kanye!! nice dude but too emotional and way to passionate…keep it together huny!!
I LOVE KANYE
Thanks Angel! You know we were feenin’ for a snippet! LOL!
Kanye is very talented at his music, but a weird, nerdy egotistical fellow.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE me some Kanye!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can’t wait until the rest of the interview is up!
WHOOP ANGEL THANKS FOR POSTING MY MISCONCEPTION QUESTION!!!
That’s why I like Kanye, he is fucking real. People are always quick to jump on him, but he always makes some valid points.
I can’t wait to read the full interview. I know it was good.
I stopped liking Kanye for awhile, because I thought he was too cocky and complained too much….. but I understand him a LITTLE bit now that I’ve heard him talk about his “hissy fits” during an interview on hot 97 last week. You can’t hate on the brotha. He is talented.
I don’t know if I’m sleepy and missed it or what, can somebody tell me exactly what did he say as far as him contributing to the Jena 6 situation?
@ 11. He basically said he wanted to get more educated on the issue and go down there and get more information. I can respect that. I mean come on, people are asking where he was at. Where was Beyonce? Jay-Z? Shit, Oprah??
That’s what’s up..
@ BUTTALUV
Oh ok, thanks! Yeah you right there could have been a lot of where is so and so? Just hopefully he actually follows through on what he said, because it’s surely easier to talk the talk.
Gotta Love Kanye
Keep doing you!
He ain’t gunna do shit if he wanted to learn more about it he could’ve done so. And fact is he chose not to so he can’t blame shit but himself. That’s a pussy ass move. BIG UP MOS DEF AND BUN B. YUPPPPPPPP. FUCK THE REST WHO PRETEND LIKE THEY CONSCIOUS BUT WHEN IT COMES DOWN TO IT THEY AIN’T DO SHIT. KEEP WORSHIPPIN THAT MONEY & GOOD LIFE WHILE TEENS ARE LOCKED BEHIND BARS FOR BEING BLACK.
#16. You can’t speak for him. If he wasn’t “gonna do shit” he wouldn’t have even spoke on the issue. A lot of people do behind the scenes stuff that people never hear about. Ever heard of Bayard Rustin? He organized the historic march on washington back in the 60s but MLK gets all the credit. Just because people don’t publicly speak out about issues doesn’t mean they aren’t doing shit.
But on topic. I love Kanye and I love the fact that he spoke with CL (my favorite blog because it has news, gossip, music, fashion, ART, everything). Can’t wait to hear the full interview.
Give the man a break!! I promise, yall be tearin’ these celebrities up on here!!! LOL Anyway, I like Kanye. I like his album and although he is very different, I dig em. His girl friend is pretty too. I say let him do him!!
I haven’t listened to the interview.. but Kanye is soooo freakin cute! lol
#3, I like how emotional he is. That shows he cares about his music and that he believes in it. I was actually behind him when he threw that hissyfit at the MTV awards.
I love you Kanye, and thank you for shutting up 50 Cent for me, I couldn’t do it alone.
people are always gonna have their opinions about Kanye. Either he too cocky or he too emotional. All I know is that he’s real and he is consistent with his character. No way has he been anything but HIM. When he says something he’ll do publicly he does it. Some people are just too wrapped up in celebrities lives that they make comments about “where was he at during the Jena 6 trial?”…where were you at, hopefully doing something about it or probably just reading some blog on some celebrity who you think aint doing anything because its not public.
Kanye is doing his thing and really if you don’t like them…thats your prerogative but in all truths there is no reason not to like him other than he making more money than you cuz u too busy being wrapped up in his life.
chi town stand up !!!!!!
#16 what are you talkin about?
You think the jena situation is the type of thing that could be solved by throwing money at it becuase that is the only other thing he could have contributed to it . The bigger question is what have you done?
By the way shout out to CL for even getting this interview. And I was feelign what Kanye was saying about mtv becuase I said t my self the other day look what they did to janet and now look what kanye is doign to mtv , good Im glad thats what they get they need him becuase kanye is it right now so ther’e at his mercy and I loved that.
People HAVE TO UNDERSTAND that people in general- not just celebs either but any and everyone with a life have obligations and responsibilities!!! I had planned for a month to go show support in Jena, LA on the 20th but a meeting came up that could only be scheduled for that day in order to meet the deadline, and because I have to make money (to afford my home and to feed myself, etc.), I had to fall back and wear a black suit- it’s all good. I honestly believe Kanye when he says he’s planning on getting involved as much as possible. Some of you must be aware that this man’s album JUST came out and he’s been booked solid for MONTHS now w/ appearances, album signings and so forth. Thanks Angel, for the snippets. Anxious to get the full interview!!
)
I think I understand now why Kanye & maybe some other mainstream artist didn’t show up for the rally His celebrity would’ve distracted from the meaning & the cause of why people were there in the first place & the media or bill o’riely would’ve spun it & said oh Kanye’s down there selling records I don’t think we should come down to hard on celebrities cause sometimes with them it’s a double edged sword and besides most of us doing the criticizing didn’t show up or do anything either!
so b/c kanye gave concreteloop a shout-out, all of a sudden everyone’s “in love” with him? puhleeze. y’all (incl angel) were the same folks who were talkin trash about him prior to.
Co-sign @ #16. I understand exactly where you’re coming from. You’re saying he should make more of an effort to help the jena 6, NOT b/c he’s a celeb, but b/c he claims to be “conscious” and pro-black. I fully agree with and understand your point. Ignore these overzealous ass-kissers; they are too simple-minded to overstand your logical stance.
Love you Kanye!! Keep doing you! And to all you haterz, read the name…fall back!!! You know you are the ish when you got haterz on your back. Go Kanye!!!!
#16 co-sign. ppl do do stuff behind the scenes but if they did when he was called out on it he would of said it # 17
Ye could of learn more about Jena 6 when he was down there.
Ye is a crock of shit!
I cannot wait to read the rest, thanks Angie. I will say this Kayne lyrical content has come up from the first two albums. Of coure Jesus Walks is still his best work, but I really like this album a lot.
I must admit I bought this CD to say 50 retire PLEASE, but honestly Kayne did his thing.
I will still say Talib and The Roots over Kayne for great album in the past two years.
Yeah sorry Kayne if you read this. Commerical appeal–yeah you are on top, but the people to really compete with in my book would be Talib and The Roots, because at the end of the day you cares who is most commerical, its whose lyrics, rhymes are really the most complicated and though provoking.
Remember Will Smith was on top too according to Snow Bunny USA….just a thought. No offense to Will, Parents Just Dont Understand… is still apart of my childhood memories but come on….
I love Ye he is such a passionate person I can’t wait for the rest.
On Jena 6, Kanye is one person, what did you do? Did you get the word out? Did you write your Congress person or lead others in the plight. We need to stop looking to stupid-stars to rescue us, we need to stand up and become leaders ourselves.
I put the word out for Jena 6 and tried to reach out to the legal community like the NAACP LDF and other civil rights organizations to offer representation. This was my contribution, what did you do?
I say this not pass judgement but to say STAND UP and SPEAK OUT, BE YOUR OWN LEADER…STUPID-STARS CANNOT SAVE ANYONE THAT IS NOT THERE PURPOSE SO WHY ARE YOU EXPECT THEM TOO. AND WHEN THEY DO GET INVOVLED ITS THE INDIVIDUAL WHO IS CONCERN NOT THE CELEBRITY SO WHY ASK MORE OF THEM THEN YOU WILL DO YOURSELF….
the one has spoken….
Some people need to know the difference between hating and telling the damn truth. That was for comment #27. Kanye was an ass a couple of years ago in my opinion, but with the release of this album and some of his interviews, I finally feel like I understand his point of view. I don’t think anyone is ass kissing.
As for the Jena 6 thing. People kill me with this “the celebs should have been down there” mumbo jumbo. I’m glad some of them didn’t go, because just like #26 said. The media probably would have flipped that shit.
Get the stick out of your ass #27.
@ 16 I kind of agree with you, but then again, i think that it would probably be better for Kanye and other entertainers to have some sort of benefit concert, because these young men are going to need a lot of money for lawyers.
So Kanye, we know you read the Loop, get some your friends together and do a benefit concert for them and their families, that way they can pay the lawyers, and any money left over they can use for college.
this is going to be a great interview. im glad he signed on to do it and i know Angel is going to ask great questions.
im with #33 as well, we cant look to the celebs on some “youre not doing all you can, youre not contributing all you can etc” when WE arent doing all we can do.
Also people need to understand that Jena 6, as tragic a situation as it is, is not the ONLY situation that needs attention right now.
Kanye you have my full support, i love your personality, and your music. There’s so much more i could say, but really, just keep doing you. I love your passion, and your ability to keep it real, no matter what people think. There’s alot of us out here that appreciate “real talk.” Please, don’t ever be fake and go with the flow, cause that’s not you, but i’m sure i didn’t even have to say that.
Congrats on your success, and the no doubt continued success to come. Alexis is a lucky girl, and your mother did a good job with you. I’m sure that’s one proud single mother.
Okay, i just went back and read some of the posts here. Why are people holding celebrities responsible, and thinking they should get involved in the Jena 6 situation? Just wondering, cause that’s really not their job. Their job is to entertain us. Now if they choose to, for their own personal reasons, to get invovled and take political stance, that’s on them, or perhaps they want to use their influence for situations such as these….but i don’t think they should be criticized for not doing so….some people on here need to get their priorities straight. Regarding the Jena 6, their are people who’s job it is to watch out for situations like this and to respond to them, such as our political and civil rights leaders. Now this is their JOB. People need to stop acting like every situation calls for a celebrity. If your ass was a celebrity, you’d get sick of people thinking you should be on the scene of every injustice done over her in the states and elsewhere. It’s not a celebrity’s job to respond to every criminal or civil injustice….damn, if they did, they would never have time to do their job, which is music, movies, whatever. LOL, and people are actually mad like Ye was missing in action in louisianna because he should have been there front and center. People catch a clue…your personal feelings of what he should be doing with his time is just that….your personal feelings, and nobody cares.
I give props to Mos Def for choosing to be involved. And that’s it…it was his personal decision, and i can respect that about him.
Ye’ alright with me…..dude is honest no matter what. Can’t say that for alot of other celebrities…
AND FOR THE PEOPLE THAT REALLY THOUGHT THE RALLY WAS GONNA END EVERYTHING….WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THE CIVIL RIGHT MOVEMENT WAS A MOVEMENT….NOT A SPRINT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WE GOT ALOT MORE WORK TO DO…..CELEBRITIES OR NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ok i’m done….
I agree with so many of you, your points are valid and I truly believe that Ye will step up and do something positive for the Jena 6. I am currently teaching in South Korea so I signed the petition, pray for them at night, emailed Oprah (asking her to please bring awareness to this awful situation), wore Black on sept 20th and posted a bulletin on myspace for others to do the same…..thats all that I can do from overseas right now. No matter how diminutive, we all have to do our parts.
I agree with #26, you brought up a valid point, the media CAN sometimes be the DEVIL and Kanye may have been a distraction if he showed up, yet NOW he is aware that his fans are counting on him to get educated, involved and more importantly contribute awareness to the situation. A benefit concert with Ye, Mos Def, Common, Nas, Jay-Z, John Legend, Kelis & Beyonce…..that would be amazing!
Big ups to Concrete Loop & Kanye…..I love you guys!
Even if ‘Ye did call 50, what the hell would they have to talk about. ‘Ye personally SHOULDN’T have ish to say cuz he did his thing. I see him being all discreet, but u kno he prolly walkin’ around cheesin’ @ that win on a daily basis lol… Can’t hate on u ‘Ye. Team ‘Ye, all day…
#16 and 35 i agree with you both. it’s good to see someone admit for once that they bought his CD to see 50 retire. YE and 50 were cool they have a song together and he is thanking him on CL instead of calling the guy for helping him sell CDS. kanye you know you have to call him up and say thanks or get him a gift. i had no clue your cd was dropping until 50 made that comment that was all over the place. you owe him 1.
Ok I have ADD so I jumped right to the Misconception peice.
Kanye is arrogant….but hell I think in many ways a lot of successful people are or SHOULD be. If you don’t love you who the hell really will. And part of the arrogant persona he plays up to the press.
It’s ok to be nerdy.. ask ‘Ye and Bill Gates.
**Plays “I get money” & does the Tony Yayo dance**
blah blah blah kanye!!! I usually like listening to Kayne and his interviews but this one sounds like he was talking in circles!!!!!!!!
#43
tha was jus your ignorance. You act like kanye just sprang up overnight. hes been in the spotlight for a while now thats why we can put him and 50 head to hea and people actually care.
#27
sit your dumbass down. I aint getting nothing out of CL getting an intervew with ye so what the hell is you talkin aboutBetter yet what are you doing with in your power fr the jena situation. Black folks love to point fingers …from their couch and demonize black folks who got a little something because they aren’t using there money stop all the attrocities in the world. We all knew kanye was doing somethign about the jena situation, anything.
i love kanye west and i would marry him in a second but he needs an oedipus rex lesson.
like someone said before, he can be waaaay tooo passionate!
@ #17
funny you should mention baynard rustin. he was gay and so is kanye ;0
see what a lot of people don’t understand about Kanye is that he is a real “person.” Sure he is this mega talented artist, but when he speaks on issues such as Jena 6, or blows up at folks over at MTV he’s doing what any human being would do. If you’ve been bustin your ass on a job you’ve been loyal to for 3 years and they promote the new chick that was just hired last week and don’t know how to do nothin, your natural reaction would be to get angry, not to mention the color barriers that were involved. And as far as Jena 6 goes, everyones waiting for some big celebrity to go down there and save these boys, how about we unite and save ourselves. Let people know that WE’RE not gonna let this slide. If supporters of Jena 6, including celebrities, got together and for one week supported black owned business’s only or something to that extent to let people know that our money is responsible for a big part of this country’s success, as is our race, then we might start to see justice. Kanye can’t do it alone.
I love Kanye. the album is a masterpiece. keep doin you man
@31: Jesus Walks has good lyrical content, its just a shame Kanye didn’t write it on his own, Rhymefest helped him! But at your comment 33, I totally agree we can’t just criticise Kanye if we haven’t done absolutely EVERYTHING (and that’s not just wearing black) in our power to help these kids ourselves. I hope Kanye donates something or does something for the cause anyway because it will bring more press to it and I also hope more artists and famous people (black, white, whatever) bring attention to this issue.
Love the interview snippets Angel you sounding so confident and articulate with your questioning and ad-libbing now its awesome. I mean come on people she’s interviewing a superstar! I must admit I’ve grown to like Kanye hearing him in more and more interviews. Looking forward to what else he has to say. The guy can talk that’s for sure…he he
I dislike him very much after those degrading remarks he said about mixed girls. smh hypocrisy

Please Kanye, keep your answers under 4 hours long.
Did he say he wanted to get more educated on the issue? WTF? What’s wrong Kayne? Were you too busy promoting your album to give a dayum about these black teenagers who were about to have their whole lives taken from them as a result of injustice?
I think people are looking towards celebrities to take a stand because they always talk about how much money the got, the big rims on their cars, how many homes they have bought etc. ….They are more financially secure than alot of us and they can really help these boys as far as lawyer fees. “Back in the day” the d-boys on the corners were the ones to look out for the community. If anything went wrong with our community, the d-boys would be the one to take the stand and protect their community. I guess some people are looking for these celebrites who claim to be/or once was a d-boy for help. You know when you come from the hood and make it to be a successful person in life, I believe you should always give back to the community. All these artist ask us to buy their CD out of the store and not to bootleg. We were the ones to put all the money in your pockets (fans) that made you successful. What’s the point of making your pockets fat when you can’t even give back to the community. I am making notes of artists who are actually down there making a noise and supporting Jena 6. These artist I will make sure I actually BUY their albums. Everybody else, I’m straight mofo bootlegging!!!
Such a human. I think he’s a great artist and that he’s just like anyone else. if i got money i’d think i was the best and you couldn’t tell me nothin (LOL no pun intended) if i almost went platinum in a week. 50′s a lame! Keep doin what u doin Kanye
You gotta love Kanye!!!!!!
He’s very intelligent, I’m feeling Kanye. I can’t wait to hear or read the rest of the interview.
gosh i love kanye!!
i hope he reads this.. lol
your album was/is fye!!!
–>LaiDeE C..
I love Kanye. But why was he stuttering? so cute.
Foxxy380,
Did you see he said MORE educated on the issue? It is ONLY 24 hrs in a day. And about 16 that you can actually do something. Who has time to promote and change the world. It is no ones job to make sure you know what they are doing. You know how many people give back and you don’t know about it? People seem to forget that these people are just that people. You make thier pockets fat because you enjoy what they put out. Really thats what they owe you. Good music. Good Movies. We as black people are always looking to blame someone other than ourselves. That is where the problem starts. With us. It is not rappers or actresses jobs to change our community. I mean yea they should feel a need to give back. Just like everyone should feel the need to give back. Money is not the key to giving back. Time is. Helping out at our schools, churches, community centers or where ever.
