FASHION PICKS!: UP ON HIGH…

Thursday, September 13, 2007

highwaistsmall.jpg

If you’re just catching up to the high waist trends, then you are a tad bit late. Infact, high waist jeans have been popularized for at least three seasons now starting as a huge trend in the U.K and moving here to the U.S. But, besides how long its been the “it” look - high waist jeans have triumphed over the “low rise” phase where we practically saw the glory of a woman’s butt crack.

Celebrities and their stylists have taken a big liking to high waist jeans, mostly because of the fun you can create with a pair. The most hot style right now would have to be the high waisted suspenders, which I received numerous emails about after posting photos of Meagan Good rocking the look. The corset jean, rock’d by Eve (Fetish High Waist Jeans) and Elise Neal most recently has also added positives to “the high”…

LOOKING FOR SOME HIGH WAIST JEANS?

Here are some great alternatives you can find online right now. Though High waist jeans are more appealing on certain body types, I think that any woman can try a pair and find the right fit for her. High waist doesn’t necessarily mean all of them come to your chest! So don’t be afraid of this look…

Denim Analogy #1: Hi-waist jeans: Jainesse :: Hummingbird: Jamaica….
The hi-waist blue jeans (top row, 2nd image from left–available at Intuition online) are from Jainesse and there’s more hotness where that came from too Kelis, Jessica Alba, Eva Pigford, Maria Bello, and Mandy Moore have been rocking Jainesse signature hi-waist styles before it was a “fashion revival.” ;)

I question the comfort of those extra high pants, but Elise is killing it! Fabulous! I figured this was something I could never wear, but there was a girl in the store much shorter and curvier than me, and she had on a pair of wide leg ones, with this crazy blouse. She looked great. I don’t know if I’d buy them (I actually don’t know what stores have them), but I’d try them before I diss them completely.

FAT WOMEN PLEASE, DON’T TRY THIS STYLE, PLEASE FOR THE SAKE OF ALL OF OUR EYES. FAT WOMEN WHO CALL THEMSELF THICK, STAY WEARING SHIT THAT SHOULDN’T BE CAUGHT DEAD IN. IF YOU ARE EXTREMELY HIPPIE WITH BIG BUTT AND THIGHS, THIS LOOK IS A NO, NO FOR YOU.

I have these already (the ones Kimberly Elise is wearing). I love them. They only look cute on smaller women.

LOL… It’s so funny, but all the trends lately have been for skinny girls… The drapy mini dresses, the skinny jeans…. And, then you’ve got the more body conscious silhouettes coming up for Spring…
I’m a thick girl, thick enough that I don’t do pieces that are unflattering on larger bottoms… That’s why I was never into those bubble dresses or potato sack dresses (see Beyonce in that Catharine Malandrino bubble dress, to see why I didn’t go there). But, as I am a Southern girl, I’m not averse to having a bigger bottom… So, I indulge myself. I’m into layering. I’m into jersey dresses, pencil dresses, pencil skirts… I’m into all these things lauded as “skinny girl trends…”
So, I will agree with you ladies, some things are meant for waifs, some pieces, either you’re 90 lbs or you can’t begin to look even okay in them; but, others… it’s a matter of opinion, and as our culture (and especially my southern heritage) celebrates stout bottoms and big legs, I see nothing wrong with wearing many things traditionally believed only for spectral girls…

THE END OF MY RANT lol

Speaking from a UK point of view, high waisted jeans have not “triumphed” over low rise jeans. Here in the UK we have atleast 10 different fashion styles going on at once. High wasted jeans stand next to low rise jeans among others, they don’t cancel them out. I noticed American fashion is probably the slowest in the World. And you all only have one fashion going on at once, that everyone feels they have to copy. No individuality.

Some of you really need to travel, you could learn a lot from others. Not only in fashion.

I hear you #84. It’s why I don’t bother even window shopping anymore–every store sells the same exact thing these days. I don’t ever remember it being this bad before. That’s why I’m like “screw it” and am designing my own clothing.

You should try shopping online, then… I mean, your own designs are inevitably the best, but you can find a variety of oddities online… I would say go thrifting, because I’m addicted to it, but it has become such the cliche lately (nearly every conceivable vintage style has been reproduced and is now available at every shop (both high and low end) you can think of)… I plan on putting a directory up in a few days (the site is pathetic now, because I’m busy writing, but I’ll have it in order soon), I’ve got quite the list of online shops, but you can do a “boutique” search on google and find some too… That’s if you’re interested in finding some unique pieces online… Anyway, I get what you’re saying…
