JA RULE INTERVIEW W/ COMPLEX CATCHING HEAT
Thursday, September 13, 2007

Photo: Universal Motown.
Ja Rule recently sat down with Complex for an exclusive interview on his new album, 50 Cent, politics, and more. He is currently catching heat for what he said about homosexuality in the media.
The rapper mentions the Jena 6 controversy and claims his kids can’t even watch T.V. in the afternoon because MTV is promoting homosexuality. Peep the snippets.
On Congress & homosexuality:
“…They got my man Doug Morris under fire and shit, they got him going down to go speak to Congress about hip-hop lyrics, are you fucking serious? There’s a fucking black kid right now about to get 25 years for having a fight with some white kids over hanging the nooses over the white tree, lets get to that. Let’s get into shit like that, because that’s what’s tearing up America, not me calling a woman a bitch or a hoe on my rap songs. And if it is, then we need to go step to Paramount, and fucking MGM, and all of these other motherfuckers that’s making all of these movies and we need to go step to MTV and Viacom, and lets talk about all these fucking shows that they have on MTV that is promoting homosexuality, that my kids can’t watch this shit. Dating shows that’s showing two guys or two girls in mid afternoon. Let’s talk about shit like that! If that’s not fucking up America, I don’t know what is.” [SOURCE]
Dang MTV is on everyone’s shit list right now. No word on when his new album, The Mirror is hitting stores. Another snippet from the interview is after the cut.
on 50 Cent:
“That’s the difference people don’t understand. Everyone talks about the beef I had with 50; he has beef with all types of rappers, but I’m the only rapper who went and handled my business and went and hollered at him man to man… And the moment I heard he had a record about me, I knew where he resided, I knew where he hung out, I went and seen and him. “Homie, you have a problem with me? What’s happening? You ain’t got to rhyme about it, I’m right here in front of your face.” So that’s how our situation took place, and I handled my business with 50 and 50 knows that. That’s why I’m such a threat to him, that’s why he doesn’t like me so much.”

as if ja rule needed to lose anymore fans he`s gonna say some fuck`d up shit like that about gays. one thing i will say is that most of the people behind the celebrity blog coverage- both hip-hop & beyond; are nine times out of ten gay.
& i bet money alot of them ain`t gonna take kindly to those remarks.
Ja should take a long look in “the mirror” before releasing an album because doing so will only result in “murrrrrdduuuuuhhh” of his career. his comments made in the complex interview have sealed the deal on his reputation with me & to top it off it
ain`t like he`s a true mc anyways. go cop the new kanye & let this one “rule ” himself out.
thas how i feel.

Oh please!
Why are his kids watching MTV in the afternoon anyway? Shouldn’t they be watching Nickelodeon or the Disney Channel? I don’t see why he’s complaining. Maybe he should be more concerned about the negative message rap videos are sending instead of some MTV dating show his kids have no business watching in the first place.

I agree with most of Ja’s words. Its true tho, MTV be showing that NEXT show with homosexuals all tongue-kissing at 3pm!! Its ridiculous! They need to go back to showing videos. Why doesn’t congress talk to the head honchos of these entertainment outlets, let them sweat it out a bit. They’re just hitting up the artists who at times are just a reflection of society….

Amen to the Jena 6. Let’s really bring that to the forefront .Oprah did a show with the Rutgers Women’s B-ball team about the Don Imus situation, I hope she does a show about this blatant injustice on these young men and the black people in general down there.
Back on topic…Ja Rule they do have parental controls for tv, but I agree rappers are not the only individuals who can be held responsible for the negative images that are affecting our culture. Yet and still, don’t act like you labeling women as hoes and b*tches in your music, don’t influence the ways that children, teenagers and some adults act and react to one another.
As far as 50 goes-boo to the both of you. You are 2 grown a** men acting like kids beefing over some nonsense.SMH I don’t feel like commenting anymore on this immature mess

He chooses to talk about homosexuality when there are millions of other points he could’ve made? Being gay should be the LEAST of anyone’s worries, its not like we’re commiting a crime, were just simply wanting to be with someone just like any straight person. If anything, I applaud MTV for willing to put it out there, show people that its REAL, its not a choice we make but something that we have to deal with. Its raising more awareness of the whole thing. Sorry Ja, but you lose respect from me, BIG time.. NEXT!

..oddly enough I have a new found respect for Ja Rule. His comments about MTV had quite a bit of truth in it…Although, I don’t agree with calling women out of their names it is def true that not only do the rappers do it but so do the movies so if we are going to get the rappers let’s tackle everyone. Of course they would never think of attacking MGM etc cause that’s where the big bucks are! Interesting to hear him say he can’t let his children watch MTV. Good to hear that he is teaching morals in his house. Interesting.

I don’t think Ja Rule was knocking alternative life styles. I think he was saying that he doesn’t agree with it being on tv at 3 in the afternoon. I agree with him. Yes, homosexuality is real. Yes, it should be addressed…but should it be at 3 in the afternoon? As strange as it might sound coming from an openly gay woman, but I wouldn’t want my children watching homosexuals kissing or hetrosexuals kissing on the first date etc. I really don’t want them watching homosexuals kissing because I don’t want them to get confused. I was born this way and I don’t want my children to get confused by seeing a woman kissing a woman…granted I don’t have kids but if I did I wouldn’t want them to get too confused at an early age.

Actually, you should allow your kids to watch gays kiss. That way they’ll be better able to deal with it when they see it for the first time in real life. Keeping your kids in the dark may keep them safe, but they won’t be able to relate to anything happening in the real world.

Ja Fool can’t talk shit about gays, cause I thought he was a closet case homo at one point–but then he disappeared off the face of the earth. Look at him–the dude is about 4 FOOT 9 INCHES and he talkin all this shit to sound hard. I hate 50 Cent, but at least he’s more real than this rat lookin muthafucka.
Also, he’s talking about two DIFFERENT, UNRELATED THINGS HERE:
“There’s a fucking black kid right now about to get 25 years for having a fight with some white kids over hanging the nooses over the white tree, lets get to that. Let’s get into shit like that, because that’s what’s tearing up America, not me calling a woman a bitch or a hoe on my rap songs.”
Two things:
1. I’ll give him props to mention the Jena 6 case, cause that is FUCKED UP AND RACIST.
2. WHAT THE FUCK DOES CALLING A WOMAN A BITCH OR A HOE HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE JENA 6??!! THEY ARE TWO FUCKING DIFFERENT THINGS. NEITHER OF THEM ARE RELATED IN ANY FUCKING WAY–THEY ARE TWO MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE ISSUES. THIS NIGGA NEEDS TO GET SOME LOGIC. JENA 6 IS A FUCKED UP SITUATION AND RACISM BY THE AUTHORITIES. BUT WHAT RAPPERS SAY ABOUT WOMEN AND THE WAY THEY DEGRADE THEM IS JUST AS DISGUSTING, CAUSE U GOT A GENERATION OF YOUNG BLACK YOUTHS WHO WILL THINK THAT SHIT IS COOL!

As for MTV–ALL dating shows need to be scrapped–cause they all TRASH SHIT. Whether it’s promoting gay, straight, lesbian, bi relationships, that shit ALL needs to be cancelled. MTV used to be hot, but in the last 5 years they play NO music anymore, and have replaced it with mindless gameshows, reality TV and stupid documentaries about spoilt lil bitches whining about they bday party when they should try to get a good education.

IF THEY DIDN’T THEN THEY WOULD BE GETTING HEAT OVER THE FACT THAT THEY ARE NOT ENTERTAINING THAT COMMUNITY..DAMN THEY CAN’T WIN. ALL PARENTS HAVE TO DO IS PICK UP THA DAMN PHONE AND CALL THE CABLE COMPANY AND BLOCK THE CHANNELS THAT THEY DON’T WANT THERE KIDS TO SEE.

Hate MTV–and most TV these days anyways. While we had overblown, crazy relationships only on soaps, now we see them everywhere. Those “dating” shows and Real World, Laguna Beach, The Hills, etc aren’t promoting HEALTHY,MATURE romantic relationships. EVERYTHING is about meaningless sex–something that not only children need to not see, but teenagers and adults as well. Y’all wonder why relationships are so screwed up these days? And why kids are learning way too much of the wrong thing at too young an age? You can say parents control the TV all you want, but in this internet age a kid can get their hands on anything they like–I don’t even watch Flavor of Love or whatever but I can go on YouTube and find videos of that ridiculous show quite easily. Or even just the MTV website.

I’m also glad he commented on the jena 6 ordeal. u have rappers from the region and area that saying squat. look at lil wayne,bg,big tymerz, juvenile and a host of other rappers from there and they aint saying shit. because these artists can support there kind from the same place I can’t support these rappers anymore. these rappers have died along with the bling era for me.

The Ja, really made some sense. I agree with him totally. MTV does have some crazy shows on during the day. Especially around the time kids are home from school watching the shows.
As for 50.. Let it die already. There are bigger issues in the world to beef about: poverty, the homeless, racial discrimination, and the list continues….. I am not going to purchase anything because of a beef. If I like your work, I buy simple as that. All that beefing is just stupid and adds to the stereotype of AAs.

@ #20, Completey!! lol. Of course I’m sure if asked he’d probably say he never curses in front of his kids or lets them listen to his music though. smh @ the stupidity of it all.
I wonder if he would have felt the same way about MTV when he was at the height of his career and his videos (IT’S MURRRRDDDDAH) stayed in heavy rotation? I’m not in agreement with MTV’s practices but I don’t think Ja can serve as a moral compass either.
True, there are bigger fish to fry out there in the world but celebrities are too quick say take the spotlight off of everything I’ve done because someone else is doing worse. No, let’s not take the spotlight off you. Let’s get on your ass too. Let’s address it all. Let’s address inappropriate lyrics from rappers that claim they’re just tellling the story of their lives; let’s address the blantant disrespect of kids by parents who say “do as I say, not as I do” yet punish their children for not understanding the difference; let’s address the overly sexualized images and content that both rappers and top execs create and condone, let’s address it all.
I hear what you’re saying Ja but you’re the last person I would take seriously. Live it, speak it. What you talking about right now is like Puffy going off about the importance of birth control and abstinence.

How is Ja Rule going to relate being disgusted by gays kissing to protecting the innocence of his kids, when HIS KIDS probably can’t even listen to HIS SONGS! Step up and be accountability. Your lyrics disrespect black women - not unlike the same black women you married and its damaging to black kids - the same black kids you purportedly are tryiing to protect. Stop being homophobic and stop being misogynistic. Forget MGM and MTV, do your part JA Rule!

The whole “gay” issue is fucking tired and lame. People act like it’s the biggest damn threat to all of society. Yawn.
Politicians use it when it’s time to vote to get your attention and divert your attention from the real issues.
Washed up has-been rappers use it to get the blogs all hot.
The real issues are that there’s a g_ddamn WAR going on and three soldiers who wrote an op-ed in the NYT about their REAL experiences in Iraq were recently killed (one critically injured) . Coincidence? The Jena Six. And yes, Jah, violence in RAP, you ignorant fuck. What the HELL are you kids doing watching MTV at ANY time of the day? MTV’s programming is questionable 24/7.

Can I ask one question:
What parent would REALISTICALLY look to MTV for moral values for their kids? NEXT is a raunchy show with or without the gay people on it. Children shouldn’t be watching a dating show, period. I agree it shouldn’t be on during the afternoon though. Besides maybe the TRU-LIFE series, tell me what show you would want your little ones to watch on MTV these days.
In the words of Kat Williams: “Don’t worry…I’ll wait.”
***waiting***
And I’m supposed to hear this from a rapper who’s lyrics his kids can’t even listen to? Everyone knows that hiphop helps to influence more kids that any one episode of next. It’s definitely the pot calling the kettle black.
(SIDE NOTE: Any one who’s in the music industry knows that some of the gayest people in the industry are those that protest it the most…so many of these “straight” rappers ain’t so “straight”)
And Ja Rule, give up on that 50 Cent situation…you lost.
There are far more greater issues of concern…ones that actually do affect people. Talk about Jena 6…talk about that woman who was raped and tortured for a week by a group of white people…so much more to talk about that this nonsense.

MTV and it’s shows can be ridiculous and over the top, but I don’t have any personal animosity about them showing same sex couples. I don’t like to see ANYONE slobbering all over each other, gay or straight, so it makes no difference to me.
On the long list of things that are messing America up, I don’t think homosexuality is even in the top 20. Sex is smeared all over TV, but if it’s people of the same sex it’s more disgusting? Smut is smut regardless. MTV does need to get back into the actual MUSIC in music television.
And why even talk about 50? He’s right, 50 does have beef with everybody but it’s so tired that no one even pays attention to that anymore. Ja, you did not make a solid argument for why you should call women bitches and hoes, instead choosing to deflect by throwing up the gay shield. And mentioning Jena 6 does not strengthen your argument either. Please sit down, you’re hardly relevant.

I agree with Ja. I’m not against lesbians or homosexuals but the same way i don’t want to see a man and woman tonguing it down in public/tv between the hours of 6 am - 10pm is the same way i don’t want to see two women or two women doing it. We are all entitled to our PERSONAL lives, why does it have to be so public. There is a station on cable called the HERE Network…play that mess on there or at 2 in the morning.
I was watching MTV one morning and NEXT came on, I was getting dressed not paying attention, when my oldest & youngest come into the room just in time to see two men together…i ran to the remote and turned the tv off. That’s just too much.
In this society we want to act like everything is okay and i’m not saying that everything should be swept under the rug but there is a time and place for everything.

I totally agree with everything he said reg Tv, Movie theaters, JENA 6, and Gay people/ programs… i think that BAD tv should be showed at certain times my children are at home while i am working and they turn the tv all the time i cant always control what they are watching or seeing but as a parent i should be allowed to HAVE a choice on what they can Watch and be Taught!! i have set a Parental Control on my tv so they cannot watch MTV at all!!

Sounds like Jarule with all the other rappers are passing the buck along. whenever someone ask about THEIR lyrics they start shifting the blame. of course there is too much violence and sex in movies and TV. But we are talking about YOUR music. Since his kids can’t watch MTV in the afternoon do they listen to his albums? just a thought

JA RULE HAS A VALID POINT-
IT’S RACIALLY MOTIVATED-HIP HOP IS PREDOMINANTLY BLACK RAP ARTIST
THE MOGUL COMPANIES HE MENTIONED ARE RAN BY WHITE COLLAR BUSINESS MEN WHO CAN’T GET ENOUGH OF THAT DOLLAR
THEY JUST ATTACK HIP HOP BECAUSE THEY WANT TO PRETEND THEY CARE AND ARE DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT
JUST LIKE LOCKING UP THE DUDES ON THE CORNERS HUSTLING OR FOR CARRYING OR SELLING A GUN BUT THEY DON’T GO AFTER THE PEOPLE WHO FLY THE SHIT OVER HERE ON THEIR PLANES
WHY-CAUSE THEY ARE IN IT-IF THEY FOCUS THE ATTENTION ON THE SMALL PERSON IT WILL GET THE ATTENTION OF THE BIG WIG
“KUMBAYAH” RIGHT BLACK PEOPLE?

I agree with some of the comments!!!!!
- What right he has to talk about 2 men or women kissing but he has some nasty STD girl in a video. ( I think the shows are stupid anyway).
- Shouldn’t your kids be watching Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network and the Disney Channel???
Ignorance is bliss!!!!
@ Tammy…. YOU’RE WHAT’S WRONG WITH AMERICA!!!!!!!!!

#10– I agree. I don’t know wtf they’re showing on MTV these days, cuz I’ve outgrown it after the Beavis and Butthead days, but PARENTS, there is a simple solution to protect your kids from viewing trash on TV. Just use your cable’s remote control and change the settings. You can block channels by rating as well and put a password on that mutha.
My daughter only can access about 10 channels on her TV, and they’re all children’s stations.
You’re in control, not your kids.

Cosign with #53, some people act as if homosexuality is the biggest threat to society. It doesn’t matter if rappers like 50 cent, Snoop Dogg, or Ja Rule call black women bitches and hoes all day long. That some of these rappers have half naked women in their videos that reinforces stereoytpes that black women are oversexed creatures with no brains. It’s o.k. for black women to be degraded in music video’s but as soon as a television show comes on where there’s two men or women kissing it’s a problem? If I had children I wouldn’t let my child watch MTV period. Children should be reading a book or watching something educational like Sesame Street learning their math and how to spell. I think some of the people who agree with Ja Rule should have their priorities in order.
