JA RULE INTERVIEW W/ COMPLEX CATCHING HEAT

Thursday, September 13, 2007

jarule.jpg
Photo: Universal Motown.

Ja Rule recently sat down with Complex for an exclusive interview on his new album, 50 Cent, politics, and more. He is currently catching heat for what he said about homosexuality in the media.

The rapper mentions the Jena 6 controversy and claims his kids can’t even watch T.V. in the afternoon because MTV is promoting homosexuality. Peep the snippets.

On Congress & homosexuality:

“…They got my man Doug Morris under fire and shit, they got him going down to go speak to Congress about hip-hop lyrics, are you fucking serious? There’s a fucking black kid right now about to get 25 years for having a fight with some white kids over hanging the nooses over the white tree, lets get to that. Let’s get into shit like that, because that’s what’s tearing up America, not me calling a woman a bitch or a hoe on my rap songs. And if it is, then we need to go step to Paramount, and fucking MGM, and all of these other motherfuckers that’s making all of these movies and we need to go step to MTV and Viacom, and lets talk about all these fucking shows that they have on MTV that is promoting homosexuality, that my kids can’t watch this shit. Dating shows that’s showing two guys or two girls in mid afternoon. Let’s talk about shit like that! If that’s not fucking up America, I don’t know what is.” [SOURCE]

Dang MTV is on everyone’s shit list right now. No word on when his new album, The Mirror is hitting stores. Another snippet from the interview is after the cut.

on 50 Cent:

“That’s the difference people don’t understand. Everyone talks about the beef I had with 50; he has beef with all types of rappers, but I’m the only rapper who went and handled my business and went and hollered at him man to man… And the moment I heard he had a record about me, I knew where he resided, I knew where he hung out, I went and seen and him. “Homie, you have a problem with me? What’s happening? You ain’t got to rhyme about it, I’m right here in front of your face.” So that’s how our situation took place, and I handled my business with 50 and 50 knows that. That’s why I’m such a threat to him, that’s why he doesn’t like me so much.”

As for gay stuff on TV, I agree that kids should not have access to that or any kind of straight overtly sexual content. But I believe I heard it stated above that it is everywhere: ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, etc. What about those daytime shows like Maury (You Are Not The Father), Springer, with it’s depraved guests prancing around, and even the court shows which have some gay content. It’s all on in the daytime.

So it’s here. Deal with it. Look at the big picture and EDUCATE YOUR CHILDREN. Teach them the value of READING. Even train them at a certain age to read the newspaper and give them a sense of what’s going on in the world around them.

I do believe it’s up to the parent to educate their children about sexuality, IF THEY CHOOSE TO DO SO. Unfortunately, a lot of parents don’t and our children are learning it from TV. That goes for BET with their soft-porn rap videos as well as MTV for their nihilistic programming.

But your kids are going to learn about questionable things like gay, promiscuity and the like from the playground and school, whether you like it or not. It’s a hot issue, but there are much bigger threats like rampant teen pregnancy and heterosexually transmitted teen AIDS, not to mention national and world events that will further impact your children

I just think there should be just a good example of a loving healthy relationships ( they probably do that on True life but not the reality shows) whether is straight gay, bi, whatever. We can’t have all this outrageous stuff like threesomes and people have their tongues down everyone’s throats.

Take just a moment and substitute the word Black (or Chinese, Japanese, Puerto Rican or Mexican) for the word homosexual in little man’s tirade and then tell me if this makes any sense. It’s a damn shame that in 2007 (notice I didn’t say 1907) that we’re even having a conversation like this. As people of color, we will stand behind our men and women when they’re jobless, hooked on drugs, selling dope on the street, have nine kids with eight different partners, on lock down for any variety of reasons, etc….but we’ll often cast aside our brothers and sisters because of who they LOVE. Tragic. Truly tragic. PS: Please don’t get me started on the whole bible thing, either. Don’t you worry about how me and mine are getting into heaven; we’ll do just fine, thank you. But you ought to think twice about YOUR entrance if all you can do is invest your time speading hatred and intolerance.

Im just concerned about people bringing up children that will have morals in life, especially in this day and age. And all that homosexuality on tv aint helping. Im not siding them ‘I love new york shows or whatever’, but people should know what is right and wrong. Im not judging but all i see in this homosexuality thing is just promiscuosity and having many sexual partners.

@83

I really appreciate that you just took the perspective of what you see pertaining to homosexuality and not making judgments. And I agree on the part, homos are portrayed in a promiscuous way on that channel (so are heteros). But I know that there are gay (like straight relationships) that are monogamous, pretty conservative, and healthy. (You’ll probably see that more on broadcast tv (rarely) rather than MTV). People have to put those type of relationships out there more to prove the homosexuals won’t bite!!!!

I dont like how hip hop calls womean out of their names and things, which is why I no longer purchase many of the hip hop albums today. I do agree that we have more important things for Congress to focus on right now. It seems like they are trying to blame all their problems on hip hop when it is television also like JaRule said, movies, explicit cartoons, and rock and roll is just as bad chanting satanic stuff and talking bout killin urself and all that. I’m so sick of these reality shows and how every1 thinks its cool to be gay now…whateva JaRule has a strong point, but cursin is not the right way to deliver an argument…He should take notes on that.

AMAZING!!!!!!!! People have no problem with him calling black women out of their name and PROUDLY promoting MURRRRRRRDAAAAAHHHHHH!!! , but they have a problem seeing two women or two men on a date? Black folks, please.

And just like a rapper to not take responsibility for their actions by trying to place the focus on something else. The get on my nerve with this whole attitude of, “why do people care of we call women out of their names on our records that kids hear, when there is global warming. It doesn’t matter that we promote materialism and violence on our records because there are people in Africa who are hungry.”

Rappers and the Hip Hop community in general refuse to see or understand the role and influence they have on society, particularly the youth. They have no grasp of how much they influence fashion, swagger, language, dance, attitudes, etc. And when you try to point it out to them, they start pulling out the “But children are hungry in Africa” joint. Give me a break Ja Rule.

Nah man! #85, I dnt hate gay people in general, but to me the whole act is wrong man! I ain’t judging them but damn, I don’t even know wat to say. When I have a child, I won’t want the child to partake in all of that man. I think homosexuality is wrong period. Adam and Eve were first created, not Adam and Steve! Hell naw!

Children are very influential towards each other and by what they see, i dnt think and i will never think anyone can be born gay. Remember I dnt hate anybody, and I aint judging nobody. I’m speaking the truth, and I know what I’m saying makes sense.

I think it was alittle hypicritical of J-Rule considering half of the hip hop community is undercover. I just feel if we give our children an outlet to know they can be who they want to be then fine. I bet if they were showing a bunch of fine ass lesbians no one would be complaining. If you don’t like it then don’t watch it. HINT: Your child is going to grow up to be what thye are going to be no matter how you try to hide from them.

By the way, MTV crossed the line YEARS AGO!!! But I wonder if Ja Rule thought so when he was on MTV’s TRL screaming MURRRRRRDAAAAAHHHHH in a room full of teens?

This interview reminded me of my mom asking me why I took cookies from the cookie can, and I responded, “but my friend took cookies from his cookie can at his house”. And my mother saying, ” we’re not talking about your friend, we are talking about why YOUR actions.”

First off, I am no Ja Rule fan. He sucks….

However…he makes some good points and honest observations:

1. Jena 6 is a glaring reminder of America’s true spirit.

2. The accusations of vulgarity and foolishness in entertainment should ALSO be placed at the feet of the major media houses.

3. Hollywood has been ‘aggressively’ pushing the homosexual agenda (political and social) and lifestyle, and has been doing so for about 7 years now. I know of NO OTHER agenda — other than the routine ‘white supremacy in sex and money’ — that has received more support.

94.

bambam

You know, to be honest, I’ve canceled my cable and regular TV and I subcribe to Netflix and Blockbuster Online. That way, I get all the movies I CHOOSE to pay for and watch, plus all the TV shows I CHOOSE to pay for and watch. Mostly everything that I like from Top Chef to The Wire is available on DVD anyway, so I don’t feel like I’m supporting a cable company that has me by the cajones. It’s MUCH cheaper, too.

I’m not really missing anything. Any news can be gleaned on the internet, and even the networks have their shows ready for downloads on the internet. Perhaps some parents might consider this. You can actually create your child’s viewing list. Most Nickelodeon and Discovery Channel shows are available on DVD as well. You can carefully monitor programming and send the shows back in the mail or choose to buy the ones your kids like the most without any commercials influencing them.

Just an idea…….

95.

Staley

Thursday, September 13, 2007 /

Well I disagree, I don’t think it’s wrong. I thinks it’s something natural. But that’s OK, we are all entitled to our opinion. But at least you were not hateful about it. We can talk back in forth about how you and I perceive this but perhaps in another arena ( I don’t want this to get off topic). It’s just that I know a lot of gay people personally that said they would not want to put themselves through this stigma by choice. The way I see it, if it was a choice it would have been defeated a long time ago.

You are attracted to the opposite sex because in your youth, you were influenced to be attracted to the opposite sex, then one day you made a concious decision who you would only be attracted to and from that point on you have only been attracted to the opposite sex?

Black people are the biggest fools on earth. 10 years ago, they were talkin about how interracial relationships shouldn’t be “promoted” on t.v. 40 years ago white people were saying “dem dam Nigg*rz shouldn’t be promoted” on tv. The reason why ppl say this kind of sh*t is becus they didn’t grow up seeing this stuff, which is alive and well and here to stay. So sumthin’s obviously wrong with it since it’s not how YOU do things. Meanwhile it’s okay for your daughter to watch women shake dat ass all day by the pool while some old azz man tosses dollar billz in the air. Then ppl wanna blame hip-hop music, when the problem is all of these hoodrat azz RAPPERS!, walkin around promotin stupidity, “beef” (how is that even a part of a grown man with kids’ vocabulary), and thingz nobody “back in the hood” can afford!

Rap music is entertainment. It has a parental advisory sticker on the cover if parents dont want their kids to listen dont buy the records. Same as rated R movies.
vides can only go so far or they are not going to show it on TV. A few women dancing with bathing suits on is no worse than Baywatch on primtime TV.
The problem is hip hop is a black thing and spread all over the world when everyone thought it would be a fad abd fizzle outt . So it gets picked apart and sh*tted on by white america who are mad that their children are now the biggest hip hop music consumer and imitators. Freedom of speech is for everyone including rappers. If the Ku Klux Klan can have a rally in front of a court building denouncing races and saying what they wish. Then rappers can say b*tch hoe or whatever the hell else we want to say. DONT GET MAD TITO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Props To Ja Rule. He speakin the truth.
Keep that homo sh*t to yourselves. It’s nasty and disgusting and immoral. andd doesnt belong on TV period let alone when children are watching. 2 men cant have a baby. 2 women cant have a baby and there is a reason for that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The thing is, I believe religion is blown WAY out of proportion, so god created me to be a homosexual just to be damned to hell from the get go?? I believe in my heart god is love, & that’s the one simple thing I think we should all live by. If homosexuality is a sin, then so is eatting shellfish, & we should be allowed to have slaves still right? I mean its all in the bible, I’ve done my research, & the more I’ve read it, the more I stray from it, I think man wrote the bible in their OWN words, & have twisted SO much around. The god that I know loves me for who I am, & wants us to be who we are, ill be damned if I have some preacher trying to CURE me of my gayness. It seems as if the people who have such an issue with it are closet homo’s themselves! They’d rather live their lives in fear & lie to themselves, instead of embracing who they are & just try to live life the best they can. Anyways everyone has their beliefs, but if anyone wants to say I’m burning in hell, then let em’ cuz I KNOW that this is who I am, & I am NOT going to run & hide because some bible thumper screams that I’m gonna burn.

Ok..some of this ish is going way too far. Imus calls the Rutgers girls team nappy headed hoes and guess what…he gets to revert attention to hip hop. Anyone on this site plz quote ANY rapper when he baically states a certain group of women are nappy headed hoes or B’s…went on radio or tv and said it? They mention women they encourter or have seen in the hood. People get a grip..their are nuccas and b’s out there!! What do you call girls that specifically target rappers, bball players etc. Do these idiots out here also Ms. O think Imus’s ancestors were saying oh…look at that pretty, good hair black woman. Remember..white men use to rape our women and even kill them. So all of a sudden, we are supposed to believe that Hip Hop created b’s, hoes etc. Now they want to focus on hip hop cuz its mainstream now..Im not a homophobic but doesn’t this activity kinda lead to AIDS? Im just saying….I dont think saying the N word or saying B is going to kill you. But they constantly promote that on MTV..that leads to more undercover dudes hooking up w/ other men then crossing the tracks back to women. Did Hip Hop lyrics cause a woman in VA to be raped, beaten & tortured? I mean they did say thats what they do to N’s around their area. Oh yeah Jay Z said N in one of his lyrics and that caused this white group to go off. Also cause a white student to hang nooses from a tree and use racial slurs…its ALL hiphop’s fault. Do people honestly believe people want to see all these rich rappers when the prediction was that Hip Hope wouldn’t be around. One last thing…I wish we would get over the N word used in rap lyrics. We took a derogatory word and used it to our benefit. Then we come back and say that was a demeaning word in history towards our race…please some of us are still eating damn chittlins (pig intestines)..that to me is the most degrading thing cuz in some cases thats all the slavemasters would give your people. Total disgrace but we trippin off a word~

#129 i feel ur statement on children is a bit ignorant cos i know that children are very influential towards each other, and can be influenced by anyone and anything, and yes, it is up to the parents to teach their child wat they want to teach them, but without that, a child can become wayward, so you can’t use that as a general statement for everyone with kids, cos some people don’t teach there children right..

The thing is, I’m NOT picking it up from the bible, if you really wanna know, I go to this site http://www.nderf.com. That site has changed my views seriously, reading stories about people who have died & been revived, & they tell their stories about what they’ve experienced in the afterlife, life is so simple yet we make it so complicated, check it out, it might open your eyes to some things in the world. All I know is it has brought me a LOT of peace, & its helped me realize that I am what god made me to be, & that there is nothing wrong with it. =) go check it out yall.

PS - I’m not trying to CHANGE ur beliefs, just simply trying to give u insight FROM a homosexual’s perspective.

Heterosexual blacks (especially women) are the leading recipients for HIV. Just thought you should know. That ain’t pro-gay. That’s just a sad fact.

#134 I have heard of the website and visited it, and i agree a lot of peopel make life harder for themselves but that is because they make up there own rules man! There are basic rules in the bible to follow and if I choose not to obey one of them, then I might as well not obey the whole thing. I just hope you open your mind to what I’m saying. People can overcome things, like me. I was never gay, but some other issues. This is real talk man.

@ #131 lol about Lenox.
@134 I’m good on getting info that’s not from the word. Everyone thinks that when we disagree that we are trying to change your beliefs, everybody are free moral agents to do what they want. Which is why most get mad because it seems homosexuals try to convince us so hard that it is right and if we don’t agree then we homophobic or casting stones. Glad you do not feel the need to change others beliefs!
@136 I agree.

Do the people who cringe when they see men kissing on TV also cringe when they see three women grinding on each other in a music video? How about when they see women portayed as jump offs for being with five or six different men? What about men who brag about being with multiple women at the same time - menage a trois style? Do they cringe then? Does the TV get turned off when there are unmarried baby mommas and baby daddys shown on TV? And do these same people cringe when they see someone’s head getting blown to pieces in a movie? Do they cringe when a child listens to gangsta rap or plays video games that depict violence?

Just asking….

Morality doens’t fit inside a little box that says Choose One. True morality is broad, encompassing and specific. It kills me how people become experts on morals at the very moment they decide not to act “immoral”. lol

#129 Zaria you give me hope that there are some other ppl with half good sense on this board. I swear this reminds me of why I never comment…..And btw, you don’t have to be gay to realize how stupid some of yall sound. Im not gay, bi, curious or anything else, but I know a fool when I see one (or read one’s incoherent typing). THEN PPL WONDER WHY ALL THE BLACK GAY ENTERTAINERS DON’T COME OUT.

And to #130: You’re right, it’s because of gays on tv that dudes become DL. Im sure we could learn a lot from you. SMH

But the thing is being gay isn’t an issue that you can just GET over. Its not an illness, its not a disease, its just an attraction & wanting to be with someone of the same sex! By no means do I think its right for men to go out & sleep with anyone they can sleep with. All I’m looking for is someone to share my life with. The only way I can put it is imagine how it is being with a woman for you right? You long for that companionship. Trust me, I’ve TRIED to be with women, but its not there for me, its like I’d be living a lie, pretending to be in love with someone just cuz society says that’s the way it should be. I find happiness being with a man, emotionally, physically, & spiritually. I know its hard for straight people to understand, simply because they don’t have to go thru it.

Most of television sucks and have BS programming because people are tuning in. The majority of people who watch tv watch the crap that is being televised. VH1 keeps bringing back the flava and NY and mtv play those stuoid date shows and BET play the crap it plays because the more people that tune in the more money sponsors pay to advertise in that time slot hence the more money that station makes. It’s all about the money. Nobody in the television industry cares about what your kids watch. So you have to care.

Why are Black americans finding yet ANOTHER avenue of excuses to excuse their own disgusting publicly displayed behaviour…. homosexuality is around and it’s their, but gezzz, and I don’t agree it should be used has an influence, none the less the same issues with blacks. Black Americans have a WHOLE heap of their own issues to deal with first before looking in other people’s backyards.

Okay Ja, explain this;

Before 50, you were everywhere, “singing” on dam near every album. Almost a household name.

After 50 hit the scene with Wangsta, where are you? Better yet who are you? Dude, your a has been! “All these old rappers tryna advance, it’s all over now, take it like a man”

You handled your bizness? By what, dis-a-f*ckin-pearing! You’re hilarious dude. No ones feeling you Jeffrey. DMX dissed your fake azz. Jay told you where to go. Fiddy destroyed your career…point blank. I wouldn’t buy Frosted Flakes if you were on the box clown.

#142 It is also hard for a drug addict to stay away fro drugs, but when he is over it, he.she doesn’t wanna go back. Since your mentioning the bible, if you believe in the bible and God, then you will know that isn’t what God wants for you. It may seem odd at first or whatever, i don’t know, but you can definately also pray about it too. Like they say, it’s all about faith man, and through faith, all things are possible!

Anon - you are missing my point. I have nothing against people being gay. All Im saying is that this country wants to pin everything on Hip Hop. Its all our fault when the N word is used, we sell guns in America -companies benefit, our vice president even shoots someone in the face…but rappers says gun in rap music and like Chris Rocks says…oh congressional hearings. Thats BS. MTV will ban Janet for showing one breast which is natural but then they run stuff on tv about gay people etc. Someone said heterosexual blacks (espeically women) have the highest HIV…there is a reason for that too. Im not against Gays but all for Hip Hop…people need to stop the madness about us causing all this ish that goin on right now. And did you happen to read the other stuff I typed…its more in there besides gays. There are normal black people getting abused by another race. They want to profit off Hip Hop but in the same breathe try to take us down.

I agree with Ja Rule.

MTV is disgusting, many of their shows promote homosexuality. Everyone of those

reality shows has got to have some gay Black man, as if to perpetuate the

stereotype that we’re all gay or on the downlow. It’s sickening and disturbing. I’m glad

to have grown up in an era where TV wasnt trying to brainwash me into thinking

homosexuality is perfectly ok. Good to see that Ja is being a real parent and doing

his job by actually monitoring and limiting his kids viewing habits.
