Ok, I am a bit confused…couldn’t Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton assist the family in helpng to post bond. Are there any bail/bond companies in a Parrish or a city close by. This is ridiculous, simply ridiculous. He is has been in jail since Dec. of 2006. I have heard people say “well he had a criminal background.” The fact that he had a criminal background truly hasn’t helped his situation, but it shouldn’t keep him in jail and for 90% of that time in an adult jail. He even turned 17 while in jail.

Obviously this incident is indicative of the bias and racism in America. If you know anything about our Constitution you would know how serious this situation truly is. First, of all the charges against Mychal Bell have already been dropped! Bell has continually been denied bail even after the states appeal court dismissed the charges filed against him. The district attorney has said that even though the charges have been dropped, he still has two weeks to file more charges against Bell! Bell’s defense is in the process of filing a writ of Habeas corpus…because the jail system has no legal right to hold this young man after charges have been dismissed. This is unlawful imprisonment. Jena, La’s has violated Bell’s Bill of Rights. So while people are marching and wearing black ensembles, the fact remains that even if this matter is resolved…we have not progressed all that much since slavery.

By the way if you did make it this was an event that can not just be explained in words. It was an overwhelming feeling (I cried) to see the thousands of (my) people marching. My God … to actually see those boys and not on a photo is a different experience … but on with business.

I was actually one of the protesters. I am a native of LA (New Orleans) however the group I was with was from Nashville. First and far most I am mad not because of the boys but CNN. When we wanted coverage they did not move but it seems they are all over this. In addition, this articles reads something to the effect of “two people” … no two teenage white boys but surely when they spoke of the protesters it read “African Americans”.

I am not sure if you know that these boys went around the block(s) twice before they were stopped on the third time. I actually saw it on the second time, and immediately informed the other protesters. I could not believe … I actually shook my head like on the cartoons, in disbelief. I prayed they would come around again. As they were arrested we chanted what did we want, JUSTICE, when did we get it , NOW, we said.

I’m NOT condoning the fighting, but when you put in it perspective:
1. There’s a known “white” only tree on campus.
2. Some students petition the school to be able to sit at that tree and was told that they can sit where they please- this is the correct course of action.
3. Sometime later nooses are hung from the tree. Principal wants to expell the students but the school board over-ruled it and they only got 3 days IN SCHOOL SUSPENSION for a HATE CRIME- You know this was all over the school, causing tension.
4. Black kid invited to a “FRIEND’s” house party where he ends up beaten with bottles and jumped by the white boys- only problem NO ONE apparently saw anything- THIS IS IMPORTANT
5. Blacks kids get a gun pulled on them at a convenience store, where they had to wrestle the gun away.
6. Black boys beat up white student at school- same scenario as #4 BUT THIS TIME there are WITNESSES? This fight took place at school- with much more kids involved and around than at a house party but there are WITNESS???? Someone identifiied Mychal as the one kicking the unconscious white boy. Before the fight there was taunting and laughing, the white boy or boys talking about how they taught the boy who got beaten at the party a lesson.

In my opinion, it is quite simple. blacks in America need to focus on:

1) Enlightenment. Know yourself, know the law, take advantage of the law.
2) Economic empowerment. Money trumps ballots any day.
3) Systematically exposing American hypocrisy wherever they go in the name of “goodwill.”
4) Take responsibility for yourself; your actions, your choices, and your life.
4) Stop patronizing whites, their establishment, and their idelologies with your time, your dime, your trust, your faith, your affection, and your energy. Blacks are WAY above them — spiritually and physically… I don’t know why black Americans just can’t see this.

None of this surprises me at all. Of course in the time of us “coming together” no one wants to hear the truth that no matter how things change they really remain the same. I didn’t want to be negative during a time when black people “seemed” to stop for a minute and come together on something in a positive way, but it’s gonna take a whole lot more than wearing the same color & a march to change the climate in Jena, LA and all over this country. First African Kings never ruled countries, they were Chiefs who ruled small communities and villages. The idea of countries, empires and kingdoms was passed down through Europe. Take for example Alexander the Great influenced the creation of the Mali Empire by Sundiata. Larger communities or “countries” like Ghana, Niger or early Mali was always comprised of either people of same culture, tribe and family ties that can be traced back to the beginning of that community.

I have been deeply saddened since I first heard about this case. I am from a small town in Arkansas and I know that racism still exist, but I never thought that I would see it taken to the extent that it is in Jena. For those that don’t know why Mychal Bell is still in jail, its because the DA has 2 weeks to file charges in juvenile court. This Friday was the first week so he still has one week left. Knowing this DA he will bring the charges as he is on a mission to prove that our protest and rally is not relevant to him. I personally think that he should be charged with prosecutorial misconduct and should not be allowed to practice law again.

I do not know what “opportunity” you’re talking about.

Representative John Conyers (a black man) is the one who introduced the Bill to make MLK’s birthday a national holiday. President Ronald Reagan and Senator Jesse Helms went out of their way to try and make sure that this Bill was not passed. In fact, Jesse Helms stated on numerous occasions that he didn’t think Martin Luther King was important enough to have a day of honor observed just for him.

Finally, it is difficult for me to believe that you have been educated in the field of criminal justice. You are incapable of comprehending why this situation is unlawful. You need to review the facts of this case. May be you didn’t catch this when I said this the first time. The Jena justice system has violated Mychal Bell’s constitutional rights. The states appeal court has dropped all charges against him. The District Attorney has vehemently denied Mychal Bell bail, stating that he has two more weeks to file more charges. So, the D.A. is keeping him so that they can convict him on some extra frivolous charges. That is illegal, hence his defense team filing a writ of Habeas corpus. You keep bringing up the fact that Bell has a past record. Well in the court of law, prior acts are rarely introduced into a case unless the defendant opens the door on the stand. Prior acts are not and should not be a factor in determining the guilt in unrelated cases. You should know all of this!

I suggest you do some research and broaden your knowledge on our criminal justice system. I hope you start thinking and drawing conclusions for yourself not because of your twisted loyalty to a group of people who care nothing about you.

I don’t think that you’re looking at this Jena 6 situation for what it really is. Of course not all white people are racist, but the white authority figures involved in the Jena 6 case are. Judah yes I do think it’s possible, but like I tell young black people to learn your black history before, during, and after slavery, so that you have a sense of where you came from, how you got to the point you’re at, and where we must go as a race of people in order to not only survive, but thrive. this new civil rights movement can’t be done half asses, and with no course of direction. All civil rights and political leaderships must have conferences to decide what their main objectives are for african americans as a whole-not just fighting judicial injustices. identify the main forces that are preventing a large majority of african americans from succeeding, and, in order to gain power, our african american civil rights, and political leaders are going to have to network with black africa, and create the powers we need to truly become independent, free, and a force to be respected and taken seriously by other races. jena has exposed a lot of things not just about white people and racism, but about black people, and how lost and ignorant a lot of us still are. wake the hell up, and get real!

I’m reffering to alot of people that I know that still don’t get the fact that one of the objectives that african americans must concentrate on with this new civil rights movement is the goal of unification with our black brothers and sisters on the african american continent. we are over 50 years out from the first civil rights movement, and have very little significant progress as a people to show for it, and virtually no progress in connecting with, and unifying with black africa. we cannot afford to just sit back and wait for reparations, or for whites to help us fix the degradated conditions of a lot of african americans. the main key to the majority of african americans. From my keen observation I find it that most Africans from the continent come to this country, use our resources and advance themselves more than African Americans. Sis, these caucasians have defiled our people too much. We’re going to have to be taken out from the midst of them before anything else productive can occur. That act can only be performed by an Higher Power. The scriptures tell us that the only thing that can save our people is the Lord (Isaiah 33:22). The planet is on the verge of, and in the intial stages of World War III due to these warmonger devils. I don’t see how our people can really do anything unless there is a separation, not only between the races, but amongst our own race because our people are so defiled, they embrace confusion and self-destruction. They actually seek fairness from their oppressors.

I know Judah and that’s why this world is and was always in a critical state. We need change but I get sick and tired of all the unfairness (I know you and the majority of people do) then having to wait for the rapture to come for this world to change. I was just reading up on the whole Jena six situation and found it to be interesting. I do think that the 9 months or so the Bell kid has spent in jail is probably excessive, but I don’t think he should go unpunished for the battery charges. Especially since it has been reported that he has a previous record. What has also been of interest to me is the fact that in larger cities such as New York, and Philadelphia, juveniles are charged as adults fairly often. I agree that this whole situation seems full of racial undertones, but I don’t think it is representative of the state of racial equality on a national level. I refuse to believe that most white people wake up each and every morning, drink their coffee, and then think of ways to deprive black people.

@220 That is a bit of a generalization as I know a few international students from the islands and Africa who don’t follow that assessment. At the same time though I know several who have come here in an effort to improve themselves, and the common denominator with most of them seems to be a strong family. I think a lot of what has happened to African Americans starts at home and the availability of a good family structure.

I invoke the name of MLK because I really believe that his view of the way the world should be was spot on. Institutionalized mind enslavement?!? My husband and I like to play a little game when we discuss having children - basically what will we name them and whether it’s better to have a little boy or a little girl. After seeing things like this and the consequences, I’m inclinded to say, I don’t want to bring a child into this world.

I’m afraid that no matter what I would teach my black son - that if he makes a mistake or if someone just has it in for him because of his beautiful skin - it won’t matter if he has morals, God and common sense. He’s still a n***er and that’s the only way they will see him.

Whites are getting crazy again…on the news last night their was a couple in LI (guy,black- girl, white). He was jumped by an all white gang. And the guy gets assault bought against him….wow. Another crime- a couple of days ago after a basketball game here in the city- a couch and a couple of players were jumped and had racial slurs yelled at them and once again the whites were not charged. I really don’t feel bad about not caring or contributing to what happened in Sep 2001. There are 5 things I would never do such as:

Spit on a white person, if they were on fire…
call the cops if they were bleeding to death…
help them out in any giving situation….
take them in if they were homeless….
pray for them…..

The Plan of Salvation

: Please, please, please give your life over too Jesus Christ today, right now!

We want to share with you how you can be saved and know you are going to Heaven. This is the most important decision you will ever make.

Jesus said to Nicodemus in John 3:3, “Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

God tells us in the book of Romans, (and throughout the Bible) that there are four things a person needs to know to be saved.

1. All have sinned, and are separated from God. That means if you consider yourself a “good” person before God, you aren’t ready to be saved. Everyone of us has broken at least one of God’s ten commandments. Therefore, we are all sinners.

Romans 3:10, “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one.”
Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”
Isaiah 64:6, “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteous nesses are as filthy rags.”

2. The price for sin is death and hell. The consequence of our sin is eternal separation from a righteous and holy God.

Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death.”
Revelation 21:8, “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

3. The good news is: Jesus paid the sin debt for all who will place the trust in Him as Savior. Notice in Revelation 21:8 above it refers to the unbelieving. The greatest sin of all is rejecting Christ, the blameless, Lamb of God Who suffered on a cross to pay our sin debt that we could not pay.

Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Romans 5:8-10, “But God commend His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.”

4. Call upon the name of the Lord to be saved. Do you see yourself as a sinner? Do you understand how a sinless One could take the place of the one (you and me) condemned because of our guilt? Are you willing to make Jesus the Lord (boss) of your life, and do you desire to live for Him? That doesn’t mean you have to be perfect now, but it does mean you have to be willing to do what He tells you. It is the most important and wonderful decision you can make.

Romans 10:9-10, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
Romans 10:13, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Ephesians 2:8-9, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

Since Jesus is willing to take you right now, just as you are, and forgive you your sins and come into your heart to save you, would you be willing to bow your head right now, and ask Jesus to be the Lord and Savior of your life? Only then will you find true peace, true completeness, true hope, true joy.

Pray something like this:
Dear Jesus, I confess I am a sinner deserving death and hell. I believe You rose from the dead on the third day and that the sacrifice You made with Your own blood on the cross was the only acceptable payment for my sin. Please come into my heart, and be my Lord and Savior from this day forward. Lead, guide, and direct my steps daily. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

The fact Bell is still in jail and he has no way of posting bond shows me just how unprepared black america is for anything negative to come its way. We can protest but we can’t come together and raise money? We fight so damn hard to be in white neighborhoods, white corporations, white schools, and even white stores but we don’t have any black businesses where we can depend on our own. Does anyone else see how fucked up we are? We can keep marching and shouting, but just who are we doing it for and why? This is not the 60’s. This is 2008. We could have all came together and bailed Bell out, and flipped the justice system the bird while doing so. We can be self-sufficient where we don’t have to depend on anyone but ourselves. If you think for a damn minute that mlk solely wanted blacks to hold hands with whites and sing sweet loves songs while pining for integration you were sadly mistaken. Yes he hoped for a day where all people could be judged solely on the basis of their character, but that day isn’t here. What a lot of people don’t know is that he also wanted black people to be knowledgable about investing their money, building up their communities, ya know doing for themselves so when they are shunned out of certain places they still have their areas to go home to. Looking up to only what made king half the man he was is setting us up for failure. King was a smart and compassionate man full of fire. He wanted better not only for all people but for black people especially. We have got to do better. Bell and others like him are depending on us to do better. We have just have to you all.
