JENA 6 UPDATE: BELL OUT ON BAIL / DR. PHIL TO DO A SHOW

Good news on the Jena 6 case. 17 year-old Mychal Bell has been released on bail. His bail was set at $45,000. The LaSalle Parish District Attorney said his decision not to appeal was not influenced by the recent march.

“We still have mountains to climb, but at least this is closer to an even playing field,” said the Rev. Al Sharpton, who helped organize last week’s protest.

“He goes home because a lot of people left their home and stood up for him,” Sharpton said.

District Attorney Reed Walters’ decision to abandon adult charges means that Bell, who had faced a maximum of 15 years in prison on his aggravated second-degree battery conviction last month, instead could be held only until he turns 21 if he is found guilty in juvenile court.

Al Sharpton was like, “Punishment, what punishment. Why was his punishment so secret”? That broad had nothing to say!

Mr. Bell was justified. He went to the authorities asked them to defend his rights, He was ignored. Thus the authorities — the government — provided defacto support for the racist actions of the whites. And when the foolish white boy got in his face bragging about the government-sanctioned racists action of the whites, and threatening the brother, the brother defended himself — not just against the foolish white boy, but agaisnt the government, which had turned against and left him out there to fend for himself. We black people must stop seeing the world thru white eyes. Mr. Bell’s actions were justified, thus the charges should be dropped.

We as a people have to trust in God. If we trust in God, he will bring us all through. God always has. We can all get along, but there is always something or someone that has hopes that we continue to be divided as a nation. Division and hatred has always been the downfall of this country. We as a country spend so much time and money worrying about other countries that we don’t take the time and money to heal our own land. If my people who are called by my name would humble themselves, and turn from their wicked ways, THEN, will I heal the land. God Bless, and keep on praying, it’s not over until Jesus cracks the sky….

It’s a shame that you and many others don’t get the BIG picuture. I have a cousin serving a LIFE sentence in Angola state prison for a crime he did not commit. YES, the system takes much of the blame because he never received a fair trail or fair justice but…unfortunately I cannot dismiss the fact that he was hanging around people who committed murder and unfortunately he was associated with the crime. PEOPLE WAKE UP….stay out the justice system in the first place by MAKING BETTER DECISIONS!!!!!!

Stop selling weed and crack so there won’t be an argument about why white men get less time than blacks. Our community is in DENIAL. I am tired of seeing our black men go to jail PERIOD! WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!!!!

Geesh, they really have some ignorant a$$ people on this board. And to think Nawlins Chick is actually from the boot. Very embarrassing.

MsMac and Tasha…Preach sisters, Preach!!! Can the church get a Amen?

…..YOU’RE IN DENIAL SISTA. ONE WEEKEND GO VISIT YOUR LOCAL JUVENILE DETENTION CENTER OR LOCAL PRISON. BETTER YET….HOW ABOUT YOU GO MENTOR A YOUNG SISTA OR BROTHER SO HOPEFULLY THEY’LL NEVER HAVE TO FACE OUR RACIST LEGAL SYSTEM CAN YOU DO THAT FOR ME INSTEAD OF VENTING ON A BLOG SITE. MATURITY IS TO AGREE TO DISAGREE BUT UNLESS YOU’RE WALKING THE WALK, I CANNOT TAKE YOU SERIOUS.

  9. @ 80 but some of the reasons why besides the fact that yeah some actually do crime is what I wonder about…..something fishy on us being almost 13% of the population and with that population like maybe 65-70% of our population is us (women) but about the same percent of the black men are in jail. I think racism is a huge part of that directly or indirectly.

I’m 21 and I don’t feel I or we have nothing to live for and nothing to lose….i’m around being 18-22 all day, all the time and most of us truly feel the opposite and know a big part of changing things in this country is going to HAVE to start with us.

  10. Damn 100 I think is the first time I’ve 100% agreed with anything you’ve said 0_o.

  11. I’ve seen people jumped and the school handled stuff like that…..not the police…..i’ve seen kids get 14-25 days and stuff like that for fighting and with worse injuries than the Barker boy…

I watched most of the Dr. Phil show……I could type a page on what I did see….the show continuing Monday I’m dying to see but I have class 3:30 to 5 then and I can’t record it…….I really hope Mychal doesn’t have to do anymore time……doing almost 4 yrs. in a detention center is just wrong….he did 10 months in an adult jail already gotdamn smh.

In these 10 months I feel how Walters and the judge went about this is pretty much criminal.

  12. Liar! The LaSalle Parish District Attorney saying that his decision didn’t have anything to do with the rally, they know they scarrrred of black pple coming together.

  13. telitlikeitiz

Hopefully this is an eye opener for all of the people who swear up and down that blacks are not discriminated against and that blacks are the most racist! Come on people! Man…even Mexicans discriminate against blacks! and to all of the black men who turn to Others with the excuse of us being bitter F-U! Look at what we go through!

I work with young children in the elementary – middle school age range. At such a young age, many of them already possess an ‘I don’t care attitude’. Many of these children come from broken homes or unstable homes, their parents are in their mid-late 20′s. There is a generation behind us that is watching and absorbing everything that we do. We have to lead by example and by making informed decisions. By now, I think we have all realized that our generation does not have solied, reliable leadership as our parents and grandparents had in the 60′s. WE ARE OUR OWN LEADERS, and we must lead by example. There is another generation growing up behind us and looking up to US because many of them do not have someone at home to look up to!

Wow…its jumpin on in here…well let me add my ten cents:

    1. Dr. Phil: Good for him. It is about time that a mainstream white media person begin to speak about the issues of racism and racial injustice because THAT’S WHERE THE CONVERSATION NEEDS TO START. Racism is about the institutionalized acceptance that certain groups are preferred and selected for access to opportunity and services so it is so important that people in power have this discussion because people not power (Black People) have had this discussion for centuries.

    2. One of the big problems in our society is that the juvenile justice system has changed from rehabilitative to punative over the last 30 years (an perhaps even more so in Black Urban centers). Having said this, it is no wonder that Bell and many others are facing harsher punishment and it is good that we are having these discussions about the proportionality of punishment to the charge act. This sort of stuff of the Jena Six rings so true to the Furman v. Georgia or the Scottsboro boys or African American men being charged with ambiguous acts of moral turpitude so that they could be denied the right to vote. So it is so important that we challenge disproprtional punishments.

    3. Having said all that: my understanding is that the last of the young gentlemen has a criminal record and was currently on juvenile probation at the time of the event. (Please correct me if this is not true) If it is true then this is where it gets touchy and where the judge may be in his right to punish him differently than the others. Also, if I am not mistaken, juvenile courts do not have juries (there is a certain logic that prevents juvies from having the same sort of due process as adults).

That’s partially correct — but bottom line, Blacks Voting RIGHTS will not be revoked, the 15th amendment guaranteed the rights of all citzens to vote, but many southern states enacted Jim Crows voting requirements that effectively prevented and intimidated Blacks from voting.

In 1965 the Voting Rights Act was passed, but it didn’t guarantee Blacks the right to vote, Blacks already had the right, it just provided for the ENFORCEMENT of that right. It authorized the federal government to send federal registrars to register voters and federal agents to protect voters and insure that they were allowed to vote.

The voting rights act was intended to be temporary – initially set for 5 years, then 7 years and then another 25 years ending in 2007. Even if it is not extended, it will not take away our right to vote.

This whole ordeal has been overly long and drawn out. I knew that eventually this would happen because Sharpton and some of these high level black Christian preachers have been set up to look like leaders for the black community by the whites in the top levels of power. These black leaders have to clean up these messy situations while at the same time making black people think that there are vanguards that will stand up for the injustices that are perpetrated.

  18. I watched the 2nd part on Dr. Phil..some of the white folks in Jena are delusional…I’m convinced…to think there wasn’t a problem in their town b4 this…smdh

  19. Terrible Tommy Murray

IT WAS A SCHOOL FIGHT! It should have been handled as such: suspension, detention, NOT murder charges! And those Anti-American turds with the nooses ought to have their butts kicked by every non-racist white person in the parish. Or simply deported to Canada!
