Who are the Jena Six?
The Jena Six are a group of black students who are being charged with attempted murder for beating up a white student who was taunting them with racial slurs. A series of white-on-black incidents of violence happened before the final incident took place, but the black students are taking all the blame.

On September 20th Mychal Bell, one of the black teenagers awaiting sentencing in the Jena 6 Case will be appearing before a judge in a Louisiana court house. Bell could receive up to 22 years in prison for what amounted to nothing more then a fist fight between black and white high school students.

I think that it is just down right stupid for the way they are trying to railroad theese boys, it is unjustice ,unfair, unhuman, & uncivilized at the way grown people of the law are behaving put i guess u can expect that from a group of raciest bastards they haven’t done away with the white sheets and burning crosses the just got jobs in certain positions to do their crimes behind the scene thinking their getting away with it ,but we as black people are not having it and we don’t care if they do belong to the kkk clan, we belong to the w. k. c. a.( whippa kkk clansman a**##)
We are so saddened by this situation in Jenna, LA. Governor, as Christians what are you doing to spread the word of acceptance. Watching the news about Jena, LA shows only that we are not moving forward, but backwards. Also, Governor, we are not African American, we are children of God who believe that we must love one another. Jena is a town of hatred and disdain.

To all the people of Jena, as you go to your churches and sit so piously; as you listen to the word of God, go forth and live the word. Teach your children to love everyone no matter the color of their skin. What is so shocking to us is that we are having to have this discussion in 2007. Also remember the men of color who are dying on the battlefield of Iraq, dying for all of the religious right fanatics that are stoking the fires of this injustice of the Jena 6.

every neighborhood, city, states has bad areas. When i’m talking about ruining neighborhoods. I’m talking hookers, drug dealing in front of police, projects where moms are throwing there belongings off balconys. no respect. come to chicago. I’m not talking about cars on grass and people drinking. i’m talking about a town you get pulled over for being white. And one more thing. I can tell you why white kids are trying to go with the black society. First you tell me what these white kids are doing that you say is trying to fit in with the blacks??(that you say is not so bad) anything you could tell me they are doing is not good. WHat is it?? They talk with a slang, listen to rap, show there asses off by wearing to big of cloths that show their underwear. Is that what your talking about? IS that why you say it must not be that bad?? I’m sure you didn’t mean they are acting black by getting a good job,finishing school, going to college, hanging out at the library. WAS IT?
The reason this is happening is real simple! these kids have low self-esteem and need to belong just like you all need to belong in this club of showing your support. The main reason is DUH! it’s easier to act black and act out and talk inproper.and say you want to be a rapper instead of a computer designer. Thats the easy way out , how can you fail at messing up!

No doubt these 6 shouldn’t see life in prison…but would you agree they do deserve to be punished? It doesnt matter what color someone is… (I dont know all the facts just like all of you since you to werent involved) but 6 on 1 is a bit much huh? What if it was 6 white males on 1 black male…People wouldnt be satisfied with life in prison…..Sounds to me like some of us are looking for the same justice that O.J. got …NONE

Jena 6 belong in Jail. They jumped a PERSON put him in the hospital. If it were 6 white kids beating up 1 black kid would you still be protesting????????
I know that everyone has had to experience racism at some point, no matter if they are black, white, hispanic, asian ect. The real issue is society has taught youth that it is ok to fight instead of talk. I am not condoning what was done with the noose hanging from the tree, or the racial slurs being yelled at the black students, but the students as young adults should have not acted in such a violent manner. Yes the white student should have received harsher punishment, but that should not have included hospitalization. 6 on 1 is a bit extreme…and I do feel that if it was a black student yelling racial slurs at the white students, and the 6 white students beat the 1 black student, the black population would have said that a 22 year sentence is good enough. Also, I don’t understand when I read statements like “acting black”….what is that?? Who defines how black people act?? As a black woman how am I suppose to act?? I feel that it is ignorance when a black person strongly hates a person because they are white, and feel that all whites are racist..well news for the blacks that feel that way….you are racist as well. After all is said and done, there will still be racism in the world, and there always will be. But we as people can try to change the violent acts that are commited, by teaching our youths that Violence only begets more Violence.

i agree with poster 189. People are racist…. all of us are racist black white green all of us. Im white i dont hate black people, but i still find myself thinking racist thoughts when i hear of crimes in the black part of town. (that right there is prolly a racist statement) We ALL need to step off a little and think before acting.
Did anyone see comment #183? I went to the site and they are talking some real stuff there. Its not segregation or nothing. The website is http://www.connectionunity.com. Like the other sister said we need to also stand up for black on black crime also. I think we should gather around this flag and stand up for all race related issues.
It is a shame that we just can’t all get alone, but that said these old school games that happen all the time in the city should draw this sort of media coverage. I feel that it is not deserved until charges were brought against these 6 young men being more that assault if even that. Also that the victim of the assault should have his suffering disregarded as due to his race the hate crime motives don’t apply.
I need to add that being raised in the inner city this sort of thing happened all the time as just a part of growing up it was not a racial incident as most fight were one on one, but again I have fought with other races most of the time for what I felt is right, and some time not we needed to know we can depend on each other.
