Keyshia Cole feat. Lil’ Kim & Missy Elliott – Let It Go
People have always said that Keyshia was a little rough around the edges, and that was fine, especially considering all the Mary J. Blige comparisons. Although it took Keyshia’s first single with Kanye West, “I’ve Changed My Mind” a long time to jump off, and then her second single, “(I Just Want It) To Be Over” took off with flying colors, The Way It Is proved itself to be a great R&B album. It took you back with songs like, “Thought You Had My Back” and Keyshia found a real place in the industry as a serious artist – from award show performances, to her own reality TV show. Now she’s back to show she’s got even more staying power with Just Like You.
Keyshia Cole – Was It Worth It
Just Like You, production-wise and melodically is completely different from The Way It Is. This time, Keyshia tapped bigger named producers such as Bryan-Michael Cox, Scott Storch, Missy Elliott, Darkchild and Ron Fair, just to name a few. The album is a great mix of smooth R&B with a tinge of hip hop and really flexes Cole’s vocal muscles. Stand out tracks include the smash single, “Let It Go,” “Fallin’ Out,” “Got To Get My Heart Back,” “Shoulda Let You Go,” and the Bryan-Michael Cox-produced “Was It Worth It.” I’m really feeling Keyshia this time around. She came back solid.
THE DOWN SIDE: Keyshia used the video-edit version of “Let It Go” on the album, meaning it’s shorter and they skimmed down Lil’ Kim’s rap, which I hate. Also, she snuck her and Diddy’s duet, “Last Night” on the album. She could have at least given me a version with an extra verse with just her or something.
Hit Keyshia up on MySpace and let her know that you’re feeling her swag this time around. Also, take a look at her official site, keyshiacole.com for more information about releases, videos and tours. And make sure you get your copy of Just Like You on Tuesday, September 25.

I loooooved the latest single!!! hope the cd is as good as anticipated
1st….keyshia cole is DOPE!
It is on the whole a strong album, one she should be proud about. Best songs are Was It Worth It, Losin’ You, I Remember, Work It Out and Heaven Sent. The slow jams and mid-tempos are kinda reminiscent of Mary J’s Share World album. Lyrically it isn’t always the most orginal, but Keyshia’s raw and powerful voice more than compensate.
I’s suggest that Keyshia Cole switches up her style a bit more for the next album–like sing about other topics and subjects. Less man-bashing songs too
Pretty Brown Eyes
i don’t know the ghetto blacks don’t really appeal to me but on a bad day she could get it.
I dont think its a single but its ok
OH I GOTTA GET THIS ABLUM!!!! I WAS LISTENING TO HER OTHER ABLUM THE OTHER DAY AND I KEPT REPEATING THE WHOLE CD….HOPEFULLY SHE GETS THE CREDIT THAT IS DUE ON THIS ALBUM MORE THAN SHE DID ON THE OTHER ONE!!!! GOOD LUCK KEISHA!!!!
I like Keyshia Cole’s first cd and she has the potential of being a great vocalist and a really productive artist. Sure she is rough around the edges but so far I have seen a change towards her attitude and it is definitely in the right direction. I have already pre-ordered her cd because I think it will be a really good cd.
I was expecting so much more from this album. She went with more of a pop feel on this one. I miss the old Keyshia. I don’t think I will be purchasing this one.
I love Keyshia Cole and The Way It Is is one of my favorite albums…can’t wait for the new album to drop.
can’t wait love what I’m hearing so far….now only if Miss Luckett drops her album I’ll be set for ’08!!!!!!!!!!!
I just downloaded the Just like You album over the weekend its pretty good I loved the self titled track Just like You
Keyshia first cd stays in rotation so i dont doubt her new cd is going to be fire.
SHE TOOOK CARE OF THOSE EYEBROWS FOLKS!
I LUV KEYSHIA THAT’S NO SECRET SHE COULD IMPROVE WHICH WILL NATURALLY OCCUR AS SHE MATURES AND MASTERS HER SKILL, BUT SHE CAN DO NO WRONG IN MY BOOK
PURCHASING THIS ALBUM IS A MUST!
Lookin forward to this album. Spetember 25th is a good day for me–Jill Scott AND Keyshia Cole dropping albums that day, love it!
im sick of all the mainstream R&B singers convertin their music to pop….we have enough pop phony singers…enough already….i am not feelin her latest sound. CL please stay up on TEEDRA MOSES, DEEMI AND MY GIRL EMILY KING.
LACLADY you picked all of the artists that I love. I can’t wait for Teedra’s and Deemi’s new cds to come out and Emily King is a true talent I really love “Walk in my Shoes” and “Colorblind.”
Keyshia cole sound doesnt really change, mostly all her songs sound like “I shoulve cheated” and what I mean by that is, all her music mostly sounds the same.
I love Keyshia her 1st cd was da shit. I can’t wait for the new cd to drop.
I like what I’ve heard so far. Should be a good follow-up to her first album.
I mean you have to respect Keyshia in her own rights, but she will never be Mary J. Blige. I understand the comparison but for real – its really no comparison. I say that because personally Keyshia has to get a My Life type of album under her belt first. That first album was hot but we have to see what this second album gives. I wish her all the luck.
I heard it over the weekend & I really like it a lot!!!
SHE IS TRULY “COMIN’ UP!” I HOPE HER SISTER IS OKAY…..LOL
I would have to say that I really love this song by Keyshia Cole I got her last cd and loved every song and after hearing her new songs it’s a must get.
I REALLY LIKE KEYSHIA’S FIRST ALBUM AND I STILL PLAY IT ON REPEAT EVERY NOW AND THEN, BUT I CAN AGREE WITH #18 LACLADY IN THAT KEYSHIA’S SONGS MAINLY POSSESS THE SAME CONTENT…CHEATING, SHOULDA CHEATED, YOU CHANGED, I CHANGED MY MIND, LET IT GO, I WANT IT TO BE OVER….AND THE LIST GOES ON IN THE SAME DIRECTION…
MAYBE I SHOULD JUST SHUT-UP THO CUZ I’M GETTING THE NEXT ABLUM REGARDLESS, LOL!
I love Keyshia but I’m going to keep it real, this album ain’t cutting it. Maybe I have to listen to it again, but I remember that “The Way It Is” left me speechless, this new one didn’t do anything for me. I’m feeling “Heaven Sent” and 2 other tracks and that’s it. It definitely doesn’t top “The Way It Is”.
Everyone that says this album is more Pop sound like dumb asses. There is nothing Pop about this album. Its just a str8 R&B joint. It’s not even HipHop/Soul, just R&B. The album is good…not great tho. i see what her and her people are trying to do and I can dig it.
One more thing…this is mos def a label crafted album. I’m not sure how much of Keyshia’s own personality I see in these tracks.
Got To Get My Heart Back
I Remember
Are the joints I’m cutting for.I really like to hear her talk something different because even though the beats are nice, I have to hear some good lyrics also.I might have to listen to it again because I might be missing something.
There is NOTHING Pop about this album AT ALL. This album is the bomb diggity LOL It’s funny how some R&B singers sing nothing but POP and everyone loves it. But when Keyshia expands her sound a little (which isn’t much) folks act like she a traitor. I bet the songs that y’all like are the most pop out of all of them.
COP THIS ISH!!!
I am soooo looking fwd to this album!!!
REAL talk i love her music and her voice but when she needs to STOP YELLING SO MUCH in some of her songs….its like we feel your pain in your music but damn !!! thats a shame everytime i have to listen to keyshia cole (and i listen alot) i have to have a ASPIRIN handy! lol
once again good singer…love “let it go”
WELL IM BACK AGAIN AND SO IS KEYSHIA THIS IS GREAT HER CD IS GOING TO BE FIRE AND SINCE I GOT THE INSIDE CONNECTS HERE IN SMTX IMA GO GET IT TODAY! HAHAHA AND THEN AGAIN ON TUE. BUT YEAH IM LOVIN HER LATEST SINGLE SHOULDA LET YOU GO AND THIS NEW ONE BY BMC AS WELL SHE IS REALLY DOIN HER THING ONCE SHE GETS OVER ALL THIS PAIN AND HURT STUFF THOUGH WILL THERE BE ANYTHING LEFT??? JST GOTTA SEE…KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK KEYSHIA!
KESHIA IS THE SHIT…. I LUV HER VOCALS AND HER SONGS.
SHE KEEPS IT HOOD WIT IT. THATS WHY I CAN RELATE..
KEEP DOIN UR THING MS.KESHIA COLE!!!
I read the article in Essence, she looks so beautiful in the photos. The styling and the makeup, hair was on point. The article was short, but very interesting. I wasn’t aware her mother had such a long addiction to drugs(“crack”). There was a hint to who her(ex-boyfriend/fiance) was. With the clues given-it seems as through “Young Jeezy” was her man. But it could be anyone….but it’s funny how she mentioned a “step-son” and Jeezy has a son;well whatever. Love Keyshia, wish her nothing but success.
*cosign with teetee* the album dosn’t sound pop. its definately R&B. the production is WAY BETTER than the first record. i just wish keisha would step her game up on the writing tip. there are more than enough great songwriters to collaberate with in altanta, nashville alone to give her word play some freshness. her content and her subject matter started getting real redundant real quick.
“let it go” is a smash hit?
oh, sorry i got lost on the way to the kjill scott forum…cause that will by my ish for the fall…….that’s a grown woman CD for real…
will be listening with some crown royal on ice !!!!
Am I the only one who saw #2′s comment on “ghetto blacks not being appealing”? I don’t know what your ethnic makeup is but are you really serious with that ignorant ass comment?
Kinda felling the same as most. Don’t get me wrong, I adore Ke-LoLo, but the album sounds like a cheap remake of the first. Brain mentions she varies her vocals but yet all the songs sound the same. Damn, did Jeezy do you that bad Keysh ( I thought she turnded down the proposal)? Love her, but the album could have went back into the studio for some extra umph. It just seems llike with all the big name producers helping her something is still missing. But Hey she rode the heck out of the first album so I’m sure she has enough songs on here to do the same. But I’ll be glad when Keyshia’s not crying anymore, but then what will she sing about (I doubt if she’s kicked that habit(weed), like Mary)?
No, #38, I saw that ignorant comment too. I just thought it was interesting that it took thirty-six something people down until it was recognized and addressed. But … I really like Keysh and I really agree that she stepped up her production on this album for real. [And she is from my hometown which is ALWAYS a plus.
)]
The bangin’ overall sound of ‘Just Like You’ made up for lyrical content here. Yes we all know that Keysh’s topics are the same but it doesn’t really get annoying because her vocals and beats are fire. She has room to grow, like we all do. Maybe on the next album we’ll get broader lyrical topics but for now I will bump this until I can’t anymore. [What about the song with Anthony Hamilton; 'Losing You?' That's my joint too ...]
Oh and one last thing. Keysh is Keysh and Mary J is Mary J.
No need to compare, every artist is their own individual.
Wow. I can’t wait to buy this.
I need to hear some happy music from Keyshia . I’m tired of this depressing shit. Come on Keyshia you can do better than this . I need to hear more before copping this, I’m not impressed!
She’s a little tone deaf but other than that she isn’t any worse than any of the other vocal road kill out here. The terrible part is nobody has an original track …. Juicy Fruit by MTUME is heavily sampled in LET it GO it’s basically the meat of her track which I think is bogus…Especially since when I saw her talk about it she basically inferred she didnt really know the original…She’s garbage and her vocals are almost the dame there should be a tweak in sound when an album is dropped which is different from the album before…I feel like she just finally learned the vocals off her other crap and changed the words…Big Deal
Peven Everett is the only artist I know of out here who can play like 20 instruments and writes and performs all of his music and is heavily bitten by the industry….Kanye Pharrel TImbaland they all know him and they all thief…IT ends up being weak though cause they don’t really play much…Anybody can play video games right…
I hate to be comparing Keyshia to Mary J, but perhaps she needs to have one of those “no more drama” phases in her life when all the anger disappears and she starts singing about happy stuff.
But, I’ll be honest, even now she can sing about her everyday life, normal things in life, not just her love life. She will never grow as a singer, and people will write her off as a one-trick pony if she isn’t careful and continues with these kinds of songs. It’s a bit like how Mo’Nique is with her stand-up comedy material–she is funny, but she has been milking the “skinny bitches” routine for YEARS now and people are tired of it.
im in line now lolololol………. kesh shut it down gurl ghetto in all she is the best in my book now let me turn the page . lololol
Oh and another thing, there is no way that Keyshia is pop. There are R&B females who aren’t strictly R&B all the time, but they sell cause of they cross-over appeal:
Beyonce
Ciara
Rihanna
Christina Milian
^Alright….maybe not Christina Milian, but u know what I’m sayin
# 2 is ghetto black lolol the comment speaks for it self …………..
i love lkeyshia cole dis album iz fire i will b n line on da 25th oh n 4 da dude that i was supossedly talkin 2 dat was my sister my fault
I have only listened to some of it.
I like what I’ve heard so far.
I do kinda wish she’d sing about something other than a man hurting her.
I mean…..ya know?
im glad she’s out cuz im tired of all these talentless singers. keyshia’s music is off the chain. can’t wait for the cd and the show.
for everyone mad at #2 just ignore that person because ignorant people want attention so let’s not give it to him/her.
I LOVE KEYSHIA!!!!!
SHE CAN DO NO WRONG IN MY EYES. CANT WAIT FOR THE ALBUM
I LOVE KEYSHIA I CAN’T FOR THE ALBUM
umm…i don’t hear any pop in this album…do you need a definition? Pop=Rhianna…sooo..is it safe to say that you’re saying Rhianna’s and Keyshia’s music is comparable? If so, i beg to differ.
I happen to like the entire c.d. including “Losing You,” “Didn’t I Tell You,” “Give Me More,”…wait I like the whole c.d. hell !! LOL
im feelin the “Was It Worth It” but im with everybody else.why she cant sing about being in love?all her songs about a man doin her wrong.i dont know if this track,”Shoulda Let You Go” is on the new album but its the same ol BS.come on keyshia,do somethin different
^ lol bout the kayne thang
keyshia cnt do no wrong n my eyes either im wit # 53 everybody kno dat ha album iz goin sell no matta what!!!
I love Keyshia! She always puts out good songs and sings with such emotion like my girl Toni Braxton. Many of you complain about how she always sings about a man hurting her, but that’s what she’s known for and that’s what she’s good at. She’s just known for those kind of songs and it’s not a bad thing because she sings about real situations that real girls go through every day with men & tell ‘em when enough is enough and let the man know that he has to go. She’s doing an excellent job, I’m so proud of her. She’s one of the few artists today that actually can SING! All I gotta say is keep doin’ ur thang girl & keep ur head up!
Yeah I like the songs I’ve heard so far.
no disrespect but this single has been played for months and im sick of hearing it to be honest. If the song is anything to go by i wouldnt like the album. Music now days especially rnb and hiphop is just not what it was, there is nothing that “i cant wait” to get my hands on anymore.
