Keyshia Cole is covering the new issue of Essence Magazine, (on sale yesterday), and in issue the 26-year-old singer sat down with ESSENCE senior writer Jeannine Amber to share her thoughts on life, love and being compared to Mary J. Blige.

ESSENCE: You recently got out of a serious relationship. How’s that been?

COLE: After my ex-boyfriend told me to go on and live my life, I saw him at a place with another girl. I was pissed! I tried to rip her head off. Then he was like, “Dude, you broke up with me.” But that’s just what it is.

MORE ON KEYSHIA’S RELATIONSHIP

“I just couldn’t do it. It’s weird. After this guy proposed to me, I was like, dang, this is everything a woman lives for: to be married, with a ring, to be able to represent something. But for me, it was the opposite. I was scared. When you get married, you become one; you don’t live just for yourself anymore. I’m just not ready for that. I’m not done with my goals in life. What’s the word when you just kind of fall back and let your man do the man thing? Submit? I’m all jacked up on that word. I just couldn’t submit. But I loved him. That’s the crazy thing about it. It’s been hard because I really missed that child.”

I wonder if that man was Young Jeezy…

Dana E. Owens, 37, the super-successful artist, better known as Queen Latifah, is riding high and rolling out big things. With a Custom Bobber motorcycle as her throne, the Queen shows her adventurous side on this month’s cover draped in a cat suit and patent leather. The new issue hit stands yesterday as well.

I wish Queen L would play Madame CJ Walker in a film. That story needs to be brought to the big screen & the world. She was the 1st self made female millionaire in America. That’s big!

Megan Good shold play the daughter.
Has anyone read Madame CJ Walker’s biography?

  3. Lula Pear

LOL! that was funny… I haven’t read her biography, but I’ve read a piece on her, 200 pages or so, in an anthology of pieces on famous Af Americans….

  4. @ #95 Lula Pear,

Please tell me what Key’s photo cover for Essence has to do with Monica? With all do respect Monica was just 11 when she first got discovered and 15 when she recorded her 1st album. Which means Mo was waaaaaay younger than Keyshia and she did what she THOUGHT she had to do to make paper. Keyshia was 25 when she recordered her 1st album so she actually knew better. 2 different scenarios. Again, what was your point?

  5. Oh! BTW, LOVE Keyshia’s cover.

  6. Keyshia looks so good with that natural make up on her, she should keep this look.

  7. WHY????

She is a no talent wanna be mary that is tone def, she has a stank attitude, not cute….and she hates her life as a singer heard on the recent baltimore radio show. SHE IS NOT THE NEXT MARY SHE IS A CHEAP IMMITATION UNPROFESSIONAL UNATRACTIVE BITCH. Sweat Alisha, Mary, Mariah…hell even rhi rhi…..But Keysha??????? Get a new profession! and if you don’t wanna do that please go to charm school and take some singing lessons for your tone def ass….PS stop trying to be Mariah and Xtina by hitting notes and stuff that you can’t do….hell protools can’t even help you!

My organization “The Road Divas Motorcycle Assoc. of Maryland “would like to make Queen Latifah an honorary member of our association. Please visit our web site. We are trying to promote all females in a positive image. A few of our members are personal motorcycle instructors. Great story line if a magazine is interested.
