Jasiri X – Free The Jena 6

The Jena 6 movement has been picking up a good following for the past couple of months and we came across this great song that is bringing a whole new light to this blatant act of racism.

Meet Jasiri X. He, like thousands of others, was enraged when he learned about the Jena 6 case, so he wrote this song to help spread the word on this issue. Make sure you give it a listen and go show him some love for this great track.

IN RELATED NEWS: The rally in support for Mychal Bell is still going down on September 20th, but if you cannot attend, officials are asking you to wear black on that date for support. Click here for more info on the upcoming rally.

More prominent rappers need to use their celebrity status to bring this issue to the

masses! Imagine if Lil Wayne, or Rich Boy would write a song about this. Funny how

all these southern crap snap rappers can make songs about monkey this, and

superman that, but can’t write about something relevant that’s going down in their

    own neck of the woods.

I’m loving the fact that this rapper did this….All the celebrities in the limelight right now should talk about it and know that we are not playing games and thats this is unacceptable. I heard mos def is going down there. I wish I was able to go show how we can unite, but I signed the petitions atleast. I wish I could do more. God will have no mercy on these people that are doing this to the jena 6…They may have gotten it in this lifetime, but in their next they will face the consequences.

I’m so touched that people are bringing attention to this matter. I’m from the south, (Arkansas) and racisim is alive and kicking. Fortunately, I’m from the capital city Little Rock, but when you go to small towns, I swear its like the early 1940s. White people still believe blacks are inferior!! These young men will be sentanced next week (thur I believe). NAACP chapters in different states are arranging buses for participants who would like to protest outside the courthouse incase anyone is interested, check with your local NAACP chapter. I wish I could attend. There are some major names who are planning to attend, however, it would be nice if more mainstream artist from the south would stand up for whats going down in their front yards. Especially those from that state.

If we don’t stand for something, we’ll fall for anything.

    @ #15….

I pray you’re never faced with ANY type of injustice in your lifetime. Only the ignorant would make such a statement. This case can be looked at on more than just a racial ground. Its an injustice to charge a man with attempted murder for a fist fight…….

    WTF?

I’m glad people are taking notice of the Jena 6.It’s 2007 and we should not be worrying where to label things such as the “white tree.” People who live in the south, such as myself know racism is still alive here.Much love to the people who are involved in this because if something like this happen to me I be outraged.

I’m glad that in addition to fashion, celebrity culture, and Remy and Golden Brooks being total H.A.M.s, that ConcreteLoop also addresses issues such as the Jena 6, otherwise many people like Simplistic (#6,9) would be out the Loop! Big up CL staff!

I’m feeling this! I really hope that the Jena 6 movement get more spotlight. I really believe that if every influencal artists( Jay, Bee, 50 cents) speak up abooutthe Jena 6, it would get more attention. I live in canada and when I read about this, i was shocked. There’s not much I can do about it, but sign the petition…

Believe me, racism is not only in the south. It’s up north too but its more subtle than in- your -face type racism. Our type of racism up here is being followed around the store because your the only black in it and they think you might steal. Or being the only black worker in a company and having to do the most work with half the credit. It’s 2007 and we haven’t progressed all that much.

I like this song-it’s a hell of a lot better than that f***in’ “lean wit’ it ,rock wit’ it” BS that saturates hip hop and rap today.

  23. Wonderful that someone made a song about what is going on. Like Kanye said, “Racism is still; they just be concealin’ it”.

The beat and lyricism on this song is tight, this brother really did his thing on this one.

I can’t afford to go down to the rallies in Jena, although I’d like to. What I did, though, was buy a “Free the Jena 6″ t-shirt from colorofchange.org/jena. We’ve really gotta start representing, and showing more unity. Our community is the most fragmented of all of the ethnic communities (as evidenced by #15), and it isn’t by accident. That doesn’t mean that we can’t start making changes.

Glad someone in th industry is steppin up! Just to let anyone who is heading down on the 20th be warned–You CANNOT drive in to Jena!! They are only letting buses come in the city. If you have proof that you live there you can drive in to the city. My parents live an hour from there and they informed me of this last night. So if you know of anyone going there please spread the word. They will have to go to a neighboring city–Alexandria, Pineville, Lafayette, etc and take the bus to Jena.

    JUST SAYING!!!!!!!

    @OATSUZN,

Great pont you couldn’t have said it better!!!!….Why can’t these rappers stand for a real cause, they can preach violence, drugs, sex and guns but not get involved with issues that effect us a peoople…I guess they too worried about losing record sales and cross over appeal.

What up CL. I haven’t even listen to the song but I’m sure I would like it. But on another note, why haven’t the Jay-z’s, Diddy’s, and other nationally known artists (R&B as well) shed light or even spoke on this situation. Remeber the time when music was a part of the revolution, now it’s just “no comment”. Also, please mentioned the situation that happened at University of Maryland recently. The incident was very similar to the Jena 6 – – a noose was hung from a campus tree. Fortunately enough the police are taking action in the situation. It’s just funny to me, how we support the celebrities to the extent of wanting to know their baby mamas, their next jump off, who there sleeping with (white or black), and the list could go on and on and on, but yet none of them support our causes. Okay,I won’t say none, but you name one and the cause because none come to mind (other than Knaye incident on Bush not caring for Black people) and even with his statement, nothing was done. This whole Hip Hop/Rap thing, is a bunch of smoke and mirrors.

Pittsburgh stand up….for the Jena 6. In this day and age, we have to be more politically aware of are rights and stop being slackers and expecting things to change with no action. Sometimes you have to force the hand of the lawmakers if you feel like you have been violated. These big time entertainers are too comfortable in their lavish cribs and big cars to make a change for the people who support them. Yes, I said it…now do something.

Shout out jasiri x from the “burgh”! i am so happy the outcome was a success but saddened that in today’s time we have to struggle with the injustice our racist judicial system subjects us as a people to. I hope we learn from this experience and band together as a united race when we must face any other unfair, unequal, injustice, adversities.

Woooow i’m speecheless. Im Tanzanian(East Africa) livin Houston…….song by Jasiri X is ill. In Swahili Jasiri means “WARIOR” ….we need people like him so we (Blacks) can support eachother and treat ourselves like Kings and our Women like Queens…instead of downing one another.
Its a struggle but we gonna make it Zion. One love.
    The movement will never perish.
UMOJA NI NGUVU…its Swahili means “UNITY IS POWER”

Excellent, excellent, excellent. I am a 42 year old mother of three and I am going to let my children listen to this song to demonstrate to them how to exert their anger into something positive. Although I don’t know you, I am proud of you and I pray you will continue to be blessed with e this gift of expression. I hope the young men are able to listen to your song so they can see that what has happened to them will truly be a victory for all of us.

what do we have to do to stop the injustice it seems to be growing like a disease
The Jena 6 is just a drop in the bucket but it is a deadly drop when a person of power
uses his or her power to hurt others and we stand by and allow it we are just as guilty

And someone tell me when will I see this story on the news as mush as who is Anna Nicoles babies daddy I get a million different news stations and I heard about the Jena 6 in a magazine.

Excellent piece of work.Be proud of it. It is a testament to our present day society and how we live. this message sends a wake up call to the hip-hop generation and to the “establishment” a statement that we know what you did and we will not be silent about it

Love the song…it is to bad that our African American rappers aren’t standing up and speaking out. They are always whining in their songs about the “man” but when they have the chance to stand up for their race, they back in the corner and go back to the comforts of their mansions….I am sick of kanye, he talks a fair game in his music but when its time to stand he is no where to be found….lets stop supporting these artist they aren’t doing anything more than degrading our women, while they make music that lacks substance….Jasiri X keep doing your thing…its good to see another brotha standing up, and fighting for the right cause
