Megan Williams with mother in hospital on Monday (wvgazette)
As you all know CL is an eclectic blog, so we make posts every once in awhile about various national news stories. This one made me sick to my stomach!!!
Megan Williams, 20, wakes up in her hospital bed on Monday evening and is comforted by her mother, Carmen Williams. Police say Williams was tortured and raped in a Logan County (West Virginia) house for about a week. The FBI is investigating this as a hate crime. Read on:
Carmen Williams doesn’t understand why her 20-year-old daughter was tortured, raped and tied up in a shed. Police tell her that what happened was probably a hate crime, that it happened because Megan Williams is black.
“Every time they stabbed her, they called her ‘nigger,’” her mother said.
But whatever the reason, Carmen Williams wants people to know what happened to her daughter. She agreed to talk to a reporter from her daughter’s room at Charleston Area Medical Center General Hospital.
(2) of the (6) people arrested in the crime (wvgazette)She said a man and a woman — who Megan Williams thought were her friends — took her to the house of Frankie Lee Brewster in Pecks Mill, Logan County.
The details are even more horrible. According to the complaints, she was forced to eat dog and rat feces and to lick up blood. She was made to lick parts of Brewster’s body, under the threat of death. Her hair was pulled out. She was made to drink from the toilet. OMG this is horrible but I wonder if Megan is mentally unstable or retarded because the article mentioned she “thought they were her friends.” Most people can pick up on even closeted racism—you just know. And the way this was worded makes me wonder if she has a mental illness. Whatver the case, they need to throw these fooz up UNDER the jail!

@# 6..sometimes your friends play the part of being a true frind and at the end of the day they are not so I wouldn’t think that she had a mental illness just because she “thought” they were her friends. I have had plenty of “friends” that I thought were my “friends” and they hurt me. Maybe not in this type of way but emotioanlly hurt me. I don’t really condone the death sentence, but given the severity of the crime…they deserve to be tortured and left for dead.
This is crazy! Last week I was having a conversation with two of my classmates about Jena 6. One, who is Korean didn’t even know it was going on. He was so shocked that racism was still alive in well in to take it back to Ice Cube, AmeriKKKa, I told him and maybe this was harsh, they YT, hate you too but for different reasons. The discription of what happened was one of the most heinous and repulsive things I’ve ever heard. My thoughts go out to this poor young woman and her loved-ones.

I am a black 27 yr. old woman who lives here in Charleston, WV. In Logan, WV unfortunately it is a small town with people that has alot of hatred towards anyone that is not white. This was so shocking to hear what this poor woman went through. This will not be overlooked, the prosecutor said that he will make sure they are sentenced to the maximum possible.

@27 This was more than a rape victim. It was a heinous racially motivated crime. Obviously her family wanted this out there because surely they would not have allowed it to be. I do pray for the family for coping with the issue and Megan having a good recovery. SMH just more signs we are in the last days.

I feel what you’re saying but she is still an adult and I’m not sure her mother has the right to make that decision. If it were me I would be very angry right now. We already know what happened to her, what is releasing her name and picture going to prove? Most rape victims remain anonymous for privacy reasons. She hasn’t even been released from the hospital yet and her picture is posted on concrete loop! Who wants the whole world staring in your face while you laying in a hospital bed, especially with everyone knowing all the sick things that happened to you. I’m sure most folks are sympathetic with her but something like this is extremely personal and while everyone wants to be the first to report the “scoop”, people should have a little more respect when it comes to certain things.
