My heart breaks for her! It pains me that this young woman had to go through this ordeal. My prayers are with her and her family throughout this awful time. It’s so sad!!

I usually have not agreed with you on some of these post but I must say that alot of what you posted here makes sense. In my own church I feel the atmosphere of white supremacy since we have taken in a new pastor (white from a rural background). My church is very multi racial and multi-cultural-asian, black, white, hispanic etc… There has been a few occurances where our pastor has said some things that the whites in our church has agreed with, but has offended the rest of the congregation. I see what you mean-it’s almost like some of them are not even aware of how destructive and hateful they are. It’s like its natural to them.

But do you truely believe that there are NO good-heart white people in the world? I can’t say that there is not(only God knows who’s true in their heart), but I can speak for my experiences and my experiences say that people of color need to start uniting soon because I feel something is not right in the world today.

White america feels that missing, tortuted, or brutalized African Americans is not news, but our nature. Did you ever hear about Christopher - the six year old black boy from Atlanta who was sodomized, molested, tortured, and choked to death and whose body was left on the side of the road? This crime was committed by a group of back woods whites. The story was told once- but never received as much nationwide attention as white children who have similar things happen to them. How about the Jena 6? Instead of cursing us out, challenge your local radio stations and television stations to be more involved in the stories about black america. Rally your local politicians who support the highest form of punishment for hate crimes and sexual predators.

I was disturbed reading comments speculating about Ms. Megan Williams frame of mind, so I decided to look up the definition of the word VICTIM.

@Bill ,only one person said something negative concerning her “mental capacity” . Yes, earlier on I questioned it because of the wording of the article and to my surprise she really did have a mental illness. Why can’t we question that ? It doesn’t make us care or sympathize with her situation any less. It’s actually worst because her thinking process is altered so they took advantage of her . I totally understand this could have been anybody, but It lets me know they probably planned this attack on her knowing it wouldn’t have been hard . No disrespect was intended , I just want to make that clear .

The reason why I take issue with people/person questioning Ms. Megan Williams Mental capacity is because one is attempting to to give a “reason” as to why the crime occurred.

It’s an attempt to almost justify what had taken place, to give an explanation for the reason such horrific acts were performed on a human being.

If this person was mentally deficient, does that make the crime more pallatable ?
if not, then why question it ?

It’s akin to placing the blame on the victim.

I’ve read comments stating that “why was she there in the first place” or “she must have been mentally challenged to think that those persons were her friends” etc.

I realize that this is a Blog, and people have a right to their opinion, and I respect that First amendment right more than anything.

on the opposite hand, this crime has affected a member of our community, and I think that kindness, compassion & prayer should be our focus at this hour instead of focusing on the how’s and why’s of what has taken place.

Excuse me if I’m being ignorant but I thought a hate crime was when a perpetrator targets a victim because of their race, gender, religion or sexual preference.
