THE ROUND UP: SALT & PEPA PREVIEW / OPRAH RAISES 3 MILLION FOR OBAMA / JENNIFER HUDSON JOINS SEX & THE CITY MOVIE

Tuesday, September 11, 2007

Salt & Pepa are back on the scene with new reality show set to air Monday, Oct. 15 on VH1. Above is an exclusive clip from the season.

Salt is angry about being unappreciated when they were together and Pepa blames Salt for breaking up the group. Their lifestyles are also polar opposites: Salt has indeed found God and is living a quiet life in Long Island with her husband while Pepa is still the party girl and desperately wants to re-capture the glamour of Salt-N-Pepa’s glory days. Can they overcome their differences long enough to heal their friendship and perform again? [SOURCE]

Even though I’ve had it up to here with reality television, I might watch this one.

OPRAH WINFREY RAISES 3 MILLION FOR OBAMA

ooparty.jpg

Even though the media was banned from the star-studded luncheon Oprah Winfrey threw for presidential hopeful Barack Obama over the weekend, someone managed to snap a good photo. Here is more info about the event.

The overwhelmingly African American crowd included distinguished senior figures, including basketball superstar Bill Russell and Academy Award-winning actor Sydney Poitier, and younger stars, including Holly Robinson Peete and cutting-edge comedian Chris Rock. Motown’s Stevie Wonder provided the entertainment, singing his hits from the ’70s and ’80s.

Inside the gates of Winfrey’s palatial seaside getaway, what some feared would be a starched, formal affair took on the air of a relaxed family reunion or, as one guest put it, “a free concert.” Winfrey’s staff had sent out memos to ticket buyers urging them to wear “garden” attire and warning women not to wear heels that would sink into the meadow. JENNIFER HUDSON LANDS ANOTHER MOVIE ROLE

jhud.jpg
( Jennifer Hudson & Robin Thicke at the VMAs )

“Dreamgirls” Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson has joined the cast of New Line’s “Sex and the City: The Movie.”

Hudson, who’s in final negotiations, will portray the assistant to Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw. The movie revolves around the lives of the four main “Sex and the City” characters, four years after the time frame of the finale of the HBO series, which wrapped its six-year run in 2004. Word is it will begin shooting in New York on Sept. 19.

Hudson recently completed work on the drama “Winged Creatures.”

Salt N Pepa- I hope the show does good but why can’t Pepa understand Salt wanted to grow up and stay out the spotlight for just a moment. I wouldn’t want to be with her because she seems real petty and ghetto. But will make for good T.V.

Obama- Yeah!!! I hope he wins because America needs change. Thank You Ofrah!!!!!!!

J-Hud- O.k. Now how is J. Hud going to be in a movie where all the original characters were white? I mean it’s good she has the offer but how will people react when their cute lil Sarah Jessica Parker is traded for the more plumpness of J-hud. I think it is great and she is moving far but white america wants to keep their shows WHITE!

While I’m still a fan but personally I think we need to take a stand on reality TV especially VH1 cause they love to exploit negative images of black people.

We need to push for more sitcoms & drama on television cause it’s soooo many writers out of work due to “so-called” reality TV

@ 15. Oprah was going by the book for the luncheon. Which is smart in my opinion. Obama already raised over 50 million for his campaign and I’m sure Oprah is helping him out with more. I’m assuming, that 3 million just came from the guest.

J-Hud in a Sex In the City Movie? Didn’t she turn down a role in another movie because there would be nudity in it, not for her, but for another actor? I’m pretty sure she said she’d never do a movie where there would be nudity in it, period. We’re talking about SITC, I’m sure there will be a boob or two. She’s either going back on her word or hasn’t seen an episode in her life.

I will be watching that Salt ‘N Pepa show. From the little snip, it looks like one may have grown up while the other hasn’t. I guess we will see how it all unfolds.

OBAMA - I DON”T want him to win this election! Don’t rip my head off just yet. Let me explain my reasoning…. The dude in office right now has created a huge mess. When he leaves office he has no worries… you know why, because he doesn’t have to clean it up. If Obama wins his focus will be on cleaning up the mess and not being able to focus on his own agenda. Which will lead him to be recognized as a terrible Pres. and will not win re-election. Feel me on this….

Not sure why, but I do not like J Hudson. Sorry

The SnP show does look good, but when I think about the fact that VH1 is pushing that fool ass I Love New York and Flavor of Love 3, I’m gonna have to stick to my guns and continue to support a boycott of VH1 for promoting what can be only called modern day minstrel shows.

I support Obama, and it would be great if he became president, but I predict it will come down to him splitting a ticket and running for vice president with either Clinton or Edwards. If that happens, my smart money would bet on an Edwards/Obama run.

I think JHud is playing it smart by taking a supporting role in a very established and high profile franchise. Most Oscar winners go on to big flashy roles which basically amounts to one big bomb after another:

Jamie Foxx - Miami Vice, Jarhead
Halle Berry - Catwoman, Perfect Stranger
Cuba Gooding Jr. - EVERYTHING he’s done after winning
Nicole Kidman - Everything she’s done after winning
Mira Sorvino - The same
Russell Crowe - The same
Jennifer Connelly - The same
Hillary Swank - The Affair of the Necklace, The Reaping and a few more. Hillary though, is the only actor who can probably compare to Streep in terms of winning more awards, though. Halle too, if she’d just stop fucking up.

and so on.

So Jen, look at the big picture, play it smart, take a lead here and there, hone your craft with a few small stripped down independent flicks, and continue to make wise choices.

Pepa needs to grow up and get on with her life, and let Salt live hers. She (Pepa) is obviously not happy with her life unless she can be in the spotlight or on stage…u made you mark in hip hop…give it a rest! Plus I don’t want to hear no old @$$ “push it” song! LOL

@ 24 I agree with you on that Obama issue as well…he will have too much to clean up! President Bush has dug a hole so deep for the United States gov’t it’s really a shame of what we will eveutally have to do to get out of this mess if we can get out at all. I respect him for running all the same, and Oprah for backing him…on the contrary whether he wins or not we need more strong, black leaders such as himself. He has gotten this far…he’s already a winner in my book!

DO YA THANG J. HUD!

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!…………. I wasn’t too keene on watching Salt n Pep, but I may actually watch. This is a good example of friends growing apart. Not to say that Salt is more mature, or Pep is ghetto. They just lead diff lives, and aren’t who they were 15 years ago. I think this show will be awesome! It may also help beefing friends appreciate and accept their differences. If Pep wants to get back in the game, she should. Solo style. Cause salt aint having it. Its obvious she doesn’t feel she can stand alone. She ought to try her hand at producing or managing a new age group if she just want to stay in the industry. Pep can’t fault a gal for living life as she pleases.

——————————————————————————————

I agree 100%! But, hey, people do anything for money and fame. It doesn’t take anything talent to exploit yourself on tv.

To the person that questioned why they are doing a reality show….the answer is MONEY! When is the last time they worked? This is their only way. Some people just don’t know when to move on.

I dont think Pepa can really call herself a friend if she cant understand that Salt grew up and moved on with her life to something better.. Yeah, it was cool for what it was (back then), but as you become a woman..your suppose to elevate. When you marry and have kids you are suppose to elevate…you are NOT suppose to be in the same place mentally and emotionally that you were in the 80’s. Aint nothing worse then being at a club and seeing women who are darn near 50 trying to shake it up like they are 21, it looks a hot mess. And while they may (think) they look good….Im sorry..they donttt. Grow up Pepa…you should be happy for your “friend”…that she found someone to love, that loves her… as well as finding the love of God. You should be “happy”…not hating. Is it really anger as you claim and express…or is it jealousy?

Maybe I will watch, Id rather watch this than Flava or ILNY.

@24- Clinton was able to clean up the republican mess and focus on the issues while getting some head all at the same time….Why can’t Obama do it??? It’s all about multi-tasking. I think all Dems end up cleaning up after Repubs. I think he can do it. I hope Obama wins, he is what we need. However I do fear for his life because white America is not ready for a black president. They would rather keep the whit one that is sending their children to slaughter over a senseless war than allow a black president! Go Obama! High five Oprah!

@24 - I understand the idealogy behind your comment about Barack but what president has ever had an easy task when taking over the helm of this country? I am only 32 so I can only speak on what I can remember but Ronald Reagan was a largely ineffective president and when Bush (George HW) came into office behind him, he had the Iran Contra scandal mess before him, he had to deal with Manuel Noriega because Reagan didn’t, the War on Drugs which we were losing miserably at the time (and still are). Then Clinton came into office and had to deal with the Persian Gulf war that the First Bush initiated, a healthcare crisis that has YET to be resolved, not to mention his own scandal involving Lewinsky. When George (W) took office, in essence he was STILL cleaning up his father’s mess and having to deal with Saddam because the US didn’t kill him when they had the opportunity in 91, the healthcare issue and a host of other social and economic ills. Realistically - no president will ever come into office with a “clean slate”. But I do feel you in some respects because if Obama is elected, his failures (and there will be some) will be magnified because he is the First black pres. But I do hope that he wins. So that he can challenge the notion that a black man can’t stand up to the challenge of running this country. Barack is capable and I pray that if wins, he can do his job and not get assassinated.
