THE ROUND UP: SALT & PEPA PREVIEW / OPRAH RAISES 3 MILLION FOR OBAMA / JENNIFER HUDSON JOINS SEX & THE CITY MOVIE
Tuesday, September 11, 2007
Salt & Pepa are back on the scene with new reality show set to air Monday, Oct. 15 on VH1. Above is an exclusive clip from the season.
Salt is angry about being unappreciated when they were together and Pepa blames Salt for breaking up the group. Their lifestyles are also polar opposites: Salt has indeed found God and is living a quiet life in Long Island with her husband while Pepa is still the party girl and desperately wants to re-capture the glamour of Salt-N-Pepa’s glory days. Can they overcome their differences long enough to heal their friendship and perform again? [SOURCE]
Even though I’ve had it up to here with reality television, I might watch this one.
OPRAH WINFREY RAISES 3 MILLION FOR OBAMA

Even though the media was banned from the star-studded luncheon Oprah Winfrey threw for presidential hopeful Barack Obama over the weekend, someone managed to snap a good photo. Here is more info about the event.
The overwhelmingly African American crowd included distinguished senior figures, including basketball superstar Bill Russell and Academy Award-winning actor Sydney Poitier, and younger stars, including Holly Robinson Peete and cutting-edge comedian Chris Rock. Motown’s Stevie Wonder provided the entertainment, singing his hits from the ’70s and ’80s.
Inside the gates of Winfrey’s palatial seaside getaway, what some feared would be a starched, formal affair took on the air of a relaxed family reunion or, as one guest put it, “a free concert.” Winfrey’s staff had sent out memos to ticket buyers urging them to wear “garden” attire and warning women not to wear heels that would sink into the meadow. [SOURCE]
JENNIFER HUDSON LANDS ANOTHER MOVIE ROLE

“Dreamgirls” Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson has joined the cast of New Line’s “Sex and the City: The Movie.”
Hudson, who’s in final negotiations, will portray the assistant to Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw. The movie revolves around the lives of the four main “Sex and the City” characters, four years after the time frame of the finale of the HBO series, which wrapped its six-year run in 2004. Word is it will begin shooting in New York on Sept. 19.
Hudson recently completed work on the drama “Winged Creatures.”

Is America actually ready for a black president? I truly hope so…
If Barack wins the presidency, then Oprah needs to be a member of his cabinet, like Secretary of State or something like that….Shoot, make her VP. She would do 100 times better job than past VPs.

I can’t wait until the show airs. Oh and although I think J-Hud is an excellent singer with lots of talent I think Dreams Girls hurt her singing career but boosted her acting career. That’s why her album will never drop. I think she’ll have a better career in acting. Maybe it’s the wrong time for her to be acting. Remember Jamie Foxx kept trying to sing and the man can sing but he just wasn’t selling.
Why did BET give her the award for best new artist and she’s not even an artist yet? Politics straight up politics.

As far as Obama cleaning up the Iraq Quagmire, I’d be interested in knowing who he would have on his team to advise him on foreign policy issues. I’ve yet to be impressed with his strengths, if any, in this regard. That could change in the future as we move closer to actual elections, when the debates intensify, but for me, it’s too soon to tell.
I think that’s where some worry is coming from as to him inheriting this mess from Bush.

DAMN I love me some Salt N Pepa. This was at a time when females KNEW how to RAP and spit on the mic just as good as the men. Now it’s just all these titty poppin coochie stank hoes like Trina and Jacki-O.
This show looks tha bomb (as yall mightve said in the 90’s lol) and they both seem so intelligent and grown up. Hopefully they will settle their differences and find some way to perform, together again. It is wonderful that Salt has found God. I wonder if Spinderella will be in it.

“I LOVED SALT & PEPA ALSO BUT THIS DAY AND TIME IS ALL ABOUT CRUNK AND BLING BLING. I BET THERE SHOW WILL BE CANCELLED AS SOON AS IT IS SHOWN.”
Thats so unfortunate, but u gotta point there. I hope not. Hip-Hop is diggin its grave and it’d be great to see some REAL HIP-HOP TALENT back on TV.
As for Oprah, all yall out there calling her an oreo or that she caters to white women, SHUT UP n SIT DOWN. She’s backin the right candidate. Go head Lady O!!
Congrats to J-Hud do yourself proud again.

I was happy to hear that Salt is a Christian now and has left her former lifestyle behind. Pepa should move on with her life like Salt has and stop acting up as no one really cares for a reunion. She has no respect for Salt which is out of order and still better. Pepa needs to get over it. Salt just do U and stay focused on the Saviour JESUS.

The movie roles just dont stop: Dreamgirls, Winged Creatures, Aretha: From These Roots, and now Sex and The City, damn she bout the business. All these “so-called” haterz was on her ass when Dreamgirls came out, and now yall claim to “hate” her for no apparent reason lol. I’m a supporter of J-hud for the long-run, and she will continue to SURPRISE and SURPASS all these haterz that are wishin she does bad!! J-Hud keep ur head up, and keep jocking on these haterz str8t to the bank lol!!! BTW, i guess her “so-called” 15 min. just keep goin and goin lol, get da fuck outta here. I am EXCITED about J.Hu getting a role in such a lucrative movie….Now te Salt -N-Pepa show..that should be very, very interesting..maybe some of these new day rap chicks will take some notes..cuz az far as female rappers go..they r the best that ever did it!!!!…and the commercial success they garnered didn’t hurt either…..no other female rappers/rap group have sold anywhere near what their “VERY NECESSARY” album sold….so If they did decide t comeback I don’t think they’d hav a problem doing so…..as far as Oprah and Obama r concerned..much respect to Oprah for her faith in dude..and I do think he deserrves his respect but dude is not ready to run anybody’s country..and that’s real talk..he is still green on a lot of issues…FOREIGN POLICY bein’ the big standout…I would love to have this country run by an African American…but a capable and ready one is the only 1 that will get my vote…point-blank.

Jennifer Hudson will be perfect in that movie… When I heard it this morning I knew she would be the assistant (I sorta hate that it’s always assistant or secretary)… I knew, when they said she’d joined the cast, that she would be some loud mouthed, no nonsense secretary or assistant ordering her employer around…
I was hoping she would be an editor at a publishing company, assuming the role of Carrie’s boss… and maybe Carrie’s deal would be that she was so young…
Either way, I’m happy for Jennifer… She will fit in beautifully…I can see her now giving Carrie the “no you didn’t” face… I just wish she wasn’t the dam* assistant! They better make her fabulous, I know Sarah Jessica Parker is far from a racist and even farther from ignorant, I’m sure she’ll see to it that Jennifer is represented well…

Kudos to Jennifer for getting out of the box for her career. Barack I see you. You’re a movement by yourself, but you and your wife, are a force when together.
I’m glad Salt is doing what’s best for her spiritually and for her family. Pepa needs to stop acting like it’s 1992 amd understand where Salt is coming from.

So that’s true about J Hud doing that Aretha movie? Bad move! Bad move! Another movie with music? Another biopic (cause many argue Dream Girls was just that)?? She shouldn’t do Aretha’s movie…that’s not a wise decision..
As for Salt n Peppa…I wonder if Spin will show up and there will be some drama, cause she definitely dissed them on their behind the music…well, she said they split the money and gave themselves three times her amount, unfairly… Peppa is delusional though, talking about “please don’t stop the music” when they couldn’t even sell out a club…lol

I AGREE THAT PEPA IS BIT JEALOUS OF THE FACT THAT SALT IS IN A STRUCTURED LIFESTYLE, WHILE SHE IS OVER 40 ON T.V SHOVING A BANANA DOWN HER THROAT. PEPA IS SO UN-CLASSY. SHE HAS KIDS, THEY ARE GOING TO WATCH THEIR MOTHER ON TELEVISON, SIMULATING AN ORAL SEX ACT. I ALSO THINK THAT PEPA IS BI-SEXUAL, DID YOU SEE THE SCENE ON SURREAL LIFE WHEN SHE AND JANICE WENT INSIDE OF THE BATHROOM. I HATE WHEN PEOPLE ARE ONLY OK WITH YOU, JUST AS LONG AS YOU ARE DOING STUPID STUFF LIKE THEY ARE. J-HUD COULD HAVE AT LEAST ADJUSTED HER WIG TO LOOK REAL. I BET SHE IS A NATURAL SLOPPY DRESSER. SHE LOOK SLOPPY WHEN STYLIST ARE DRESSING HER, IMAGINE HER AT HOME, AND SHE NEED TO LOSE SOME WEIGHT AND STOP THAT LOU SINGING, DANG I KNOW SHE IS SOULFUL, BUT CAN SHE SPEAR OUR EARS FOR ANOTHER SONG, W.A. S.

DENISE SAID: BACK IN 1993, SALT AND PEPA WERE SHOWING THEIR BUTT CHEEKS AND SINGING ABOUT HOW A MAN HANGS. THEY WERE NOT CLASSY AT ALL. YES, MAYBE IN THE BEGINNING THEY WERE HARD RHYMERS, BUT THEY FELL FOR THE PRESSURE ALSO. A LOT OF THESE RAPPERS LIKE JACKI-O , TRINA, AND LIL KIM, GOT THEIR STYLE FROM SNP. MC. LYTE IS AN EXAMPLE OF A DOPE FEMALE MC.

I’m so tried of the reality tv series craze esp show like Vh1 s FOL, I luv NY,etc! Reality shows were better when they were less scripted and when what you saw was really what you got. However the Salt and Pepa show might be interesting. They do have fans ,myself included who would like to see whats been going on in their lives today and view their chemistry on tv ,to see if they still have it.
Good for Jennifer Hudson. Did you gusy think that they would give her a leading role in a movie centered mainly around the lives of 4 white women? I’m sure shes grateful just to be offered a role period in the movie. They must be offering the ladies of Sex in The city alot of money to do this movie, because its always ben said that they didnt get along to well when doing the show!
Obama-Think its good that they have raised this much money for his campaign!

Ok I just watched the clip of the preview show. I can watch this because it seems so real. The emotions that both are feeling as they talk about their current and previous lives as performers is so raw and real. Pepa obviously has been eagerly anticipating a comeback, because she enjoys the lifestyle of being a performer, etc .Salt on the other hand seems more content with her life as a chirstian and family women raising her children, and she is more apprehensive about takign a tsroll down memory lane with Pepa, because soem of those memories, conflict with her new lifetsyle.I understand both womens points but yeah I will tune in.I want to see what comes out of this reality show for them. I think it will be great even if they decide that gettign the group back togetrher isnt something taht they want to do,if they can just work out thier differences and rebuild their friendship that will be good.

SNP: I probably won’t watch the Salt n Pepa reality show. Pepa needs to let it go and let Salt be at peace.
Jennifer Hudson: - Eh, whatever floats her boat.
Oprah and Obama: - Not a big fan of either. I’d rather vote for Hilary.

salt n’ pepa look issues look like sum manufactured ish…..drummed up for ratings. I’m dissappointed cuz’ they are from a era of black music that was so real and fun. They are legends and pioneers. They could/should do so much better than this.
And salt…..the make over is horrible. Is that a booby job…..that you didn’t need. WTF.
I’m still gon watch cuz they one of my fav groups from the good/real era of hip hop.

Just cuz u grow up doesn’t mean u gotta walk with a stick up ya ass.The way she talking, you’d think push it is a song you’d only see on Uncut or something.I never looked as push it as a sexual song.Just cuz you’ve grown and u found the lord, doesn’t mean u have to turn your back on the fans who’ve brought u to the point where you’re @ today.I’ts not like Pep,is wanting her to go back into the studio and make an album, but it’s obvious that people still want to see them perform. There has to be more to it that nobody knows about cuz it’s like they’re not even friends anymore

“J-Hud in a Sex In the City Movie? Didn’t she turn down a role in another movie because there would be nudity in it, not for her, but for another actor? ”
Money talks. I think there was a thread regarding this very topic on the loop. I guess Jen realized even though she won an Oscar she still has to compromise in more ways than one…lol. She is so bloody fake. Ugh.
