SAD NEWS: NAILAH FRANKLIN’S BODY FOUND

The body of Nailah Franklin, 28, was found near her car in Calumet City, Ill. early Thursday morning. Friends and relatives became concerned last week when she sent a vague text message to friends and family saying that she was having dinner and that she’d call later. Franklin’s car was found Friday in Hammond, Ind.

Nailah Franklin’s uncle, Jon Merrill, and family friend and spokesman, Andrew Holmes, told a CBS news affiliate that authorities have confirmed the body is Franklin’s.

There are many leads in the case, but the police are investigating a possible ex-boyfriend who was leaving threatening voice mail messages for Nailah shortly before she disappeared. This is a horrible outcome and my heart goes out to the family. For more info on the case please check out the links provided below.

That is soo sad.. . My heart goes out to her family, friends and colleagues. I hope they find who is responsible for her disappearance and don’t drag their feet like they always do when someone of colored is missing. Sorry to put the race card out there, but it’s the truth.

  14. I live in a west suburb of chicago, but I have family member sthat live in the same area where this young lady used to live. This is so sad. My prayers are with her family. It’s crazy because when you see stuff like this & then it happens around you, it’s scary feeling. So many people, hear it or see it & say that’s messed up & then move on. But, when you are close to it, it’s so real. My thoughts are stuck. This has me speechless. It’s crazy people out there who will harm you at anytime. It’s scary to go outside to the store after dark, in a lot of places in chicago I visit my family & friends, shop, party, kick it, hang out or whatever in chicago all the time, but when it’s time to call it a day……..I am so blessed to live in the suburbs. I’m not stupid & I know crime is everywhere, but where I’m from, the suburbs are safer. The world is messed up, or rather there are some messed up people in the world. This is some very sad new that has put a damper on my day ;(

  15. I hope they get that muthafucka. This is not cute, men gettin jealous and crazy over bullshit. I PRAY TO THE ALMIGHTY THAT THIS PERSON IS CAUGHT AND THE SEVERITY OF HIS PUNISHMENT IS EXTREME!

  16. Indygirl

It is a sad outcome and I hope they find the person who did this. I live near Chicago and the crime rate with women and children being abducted, raped, and killed is increasing. I would hate to see another jerkbastardlowlifewithnoconscience get away with this.

  17. Mississippi Gurl

Wow………. this is too sadening! Thanks, Concrete for keeping me informed about things like this. Its crazy how missing black americans dont get publicized as other races do. My prayers and thoughts go out to the family and friends!

  18. ThinkAboutIt

    So Tragic –

Prayers of comfort and peace for her family –

Ladies – please understand a threat is a threat, filing a police report is just the first step, but you must take all measures [by any means necessary] to protect yourself.

  19. mphsmade

    God, be with them…

  20. sexy chocolate

My prayers go out to her family. This is very sad news and I actually got teary-eyed when I read about it. I hope they find the person responsible for doing this.

  21. Pookie

This is so sad! Makes me not wanna leave the house… unless I have someone or some PEOPLE with me. Ladies, please be careful when going out. We always feel like things will never happen to us but please always have your guard up because we are seeing more and more that things can happen quickly, for the worse.

Be careful and ask God to cover and protect us.

  22. @#14, please have some respect if not 4 urself then 2 this lady and her family there is a time and a place 2 be silly and this is not the post. They r doing everythang they can. Be grown for a change.

  23. leslie arnelle

    Oh my goodness…..SIGH!!!!!!!!!!!

We who are praying ppl need to pray for all of us because WHY!!!!!????!!!

Why kill someone….I find the best revenge is SUCCESS!!!!

I mean come on man…we’ve all been hurt to the point we want to take someone out…lol!…but seriously…Id rather cry my eyes out and SCREAM to the top of my lungs to get it all out than go to jail for the rest of my life for a loser!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  24. darkandbeautiful

May God be with the family in their time of grief. This world is no longer a safe place. Stay safe.

  25. natalia

Chicago is a big yet small city… Especially if you grew up in the south suburbs and attended the University of Illinois. We all know each other or atleast know of each other. This story really hits home for me. I am so saddened. Does anyone have information on how to send flowers, cards, etc. to the family?

  26. hopechrissy

This is so sad. I kept following up ever day on what was going on with this case. I was just hoping and praying that she would turn up alive. My God, I am so sad this has happened. My prayers and condolences go out to her family. May she rest in peace. So sad…

  27. kander1625

I pray for the family of Nailah – I pray for the person who did this (hate the sin, love the sinner). I pray that the family receives the answers they need, and that the person who did this will be caught and made to pay for this senseless crime.

Thanks CL for updating the story – please continue to follow it, because we definitely won’t hear anymore about it in mainstream media. I totally agree with the person above who said that “they” act like “we’re” disposable – it’s the God’s truth.

  28. Kiyaz

This is so sad much love to her family

  29. da one

Oh no! Its sad and tragic my heart goes out to her family and friends, i was praying that she would be found… God rest her soul. God bless xx

  30. jscene

I am not sad…i am angry, angry that this goes on everyday….thousands of people go missing worldwide everyday, people are killed, and for some families, the bodies are never recovered. I have a friend right now whose sister went missing a year ago, every smart educated girl with a bright future….she was never found. Her family is still looking for her, but has come to grips that she is gone. At this point, they are just hoping to recover her body someday…the mother never sleeps…it’s heartbreaking.

The only thing i can say is – ladies and men for that matter, cause men are popping up missing as well…..no matter how grown you are, no matter how old you are….no matter how many kids you have, PLEASE TELL SOMEBODY WHERE YOU ARE GOING AND WHO YOU ARE GOING WITH! It’s for safety reasons, just in case something happens, your family has somewhere to start looking and some info to give to the police. I know most of us feel that if we are grown, we don’t have to tell our parents or family members where we are going (that’s for kids)….but not so people, not in today’s day and time…I tell somebody, my sister, my friend, somebody, where i am going…i don’t care if i’m just running up the street for gas…i can my sister when i have a date and give her his name number make and model of his damn car, shoe size, and what ever other details i can gather…it’s not being paranoid, i don’t know his ass, i’m being safe. It seems extreme, but it’s what we must do nowadays to be safe.

  31. My God, this is not right. It’s just not right. SMH What’s wrong with niccas today?

May her soul rest in peace.

  32. What is the point of killing someone? I just don’t understand…

  33. FINE N MELLOW

Damn May She R.I.P. My prayers to her family and friends. Stay strong !!

  34. Pookie

I agree #14. When Lacey Peterson went missing, all the news stations covered it and I was honestly tired of hearing about it becase every 15 minutes for MONTHS they were talking about it. I never heard about this young lady until coming to this web site. I feel you on that. If they’re gonna call out all the troops on one, do it for all.

  35. My heart sank after hearing about this!!! I was really hoping they would find her alive. This is so so sad!!! My thoughts and prayers go out to her friends and family members. She was an intelligent and beautiful young lady, smh :-(

  36. Bum--

Wow, I had a feeling it was her body when i saw it on the news this morning. I’m on the South side of Chicago right now for school at Chicago State University and I will definitely make sure I’m careful. This hits too close for comfort. Prayers go out to her family.

  37. Ladies it is SO SO important to let your friends, family, SOMEONE know where you are and who you are out with. it is NOT a game. Also be careful who let into your personal space because there are some really sick people out here.

  38. jscene

I’m done being sad, i’m pissed, we need to do something about these damn predators…especially the ones that are bold enough to make verbal threats. People are running around right now with temporary protection orders thinking they are safe – NOT, it’s a just a piece of paper, it won’t stop a criminal who’s intent is to hurt you…and look at the system right now anyway, with the way that they free people, who would view it as a deterrent or punishment at all? It’s almost worth committing the crime with the punishments they are handing out. A death for 5 years in jail…WTF…this is happening people….i stopped being sad a long time ago…now i’m just angry and i really don’t know what to do. The only thing i can say is individually, we can take more measures to protect ourselves cause the law won’t, they will just show up to recover your body.

  39. wonder woman

I’ve been reading up on this story for awhile now and I was praying that she was able to be found alive but I see that, that wasn’t able to happen.I dont even know her but I get upset knowing that she’s gone..my heart goes out to her family and friends.

  40. SUPERCENT

I lived in Chicago and learned a while back not to be going to too many places alone. She more than likely knew her killer and he got to her first. I am glad they found her cause at least her family now knows the outcome of her disapperance. I hope they find the person whom did this violent crime.

When a relationship is not working or has ended, leave it alone. Leave that person alone. Sometimes shit don’t work out. Just leave and go on with you life.

She was going on with her life and if it was an ex-boyfriend, he couldn’t.

Some men need to be leave their pride and ego at the door. If a woman DON’T want you just leave it alone. Move to the next. There are too many women in this world.

  41. Wow, this is really sad. My prayers go out to her family.

  42. Mallato

This is such a tragedy… I was truly hoping they would of have found her alive… My prayers go out to the family during this difficult time..

  43. Diamond

My heart and prayers go out to the family of the victim. Hopefully, the investigation will lead to a conviction.

  44. SUPERCENT

We need to remember Black Americans only make up 13% of the population. So therefore we need to cover our people. SOME White Americans are not concerned about the welfare of us or our black women. We need to make sure we are safe and our families. It ashamed, because our fore-fathers help to build this county before Mexican migrated here. And now we are behind them. So WE ARE THE ONE THAT NEED TO MAKE US AWARE OF WHAT IS GOING ON WITH BLACK AMERICANS. THE INTERNET HAS A LOT OF POWER ESPECIALLY IF YOU USE IT CORRECTLY.

  45. Isis

God rest her soul and spirit. My heart goes out for the family. I mean I can’t even imagine something like this happening to my child. And when it does cross my mind I just tear up. You know not the time or the hour. Just be as careful as you can when you start to date and meet people. Jesus. This is enough to make me want to stay single forever.

  46. Tealeaf

That’s so sad, I hope they find her killer

  47. OMG thats so harsh and horrible……damn

  48. sassysexychick

My prayers go out to her family…too sad

  50. I hope they catch the motherf***er smh…that is so sad and sick

  52. Water

We have to remember that for most violent crimes whether it is child molestation, assualt or homicide-the victim generally knows the offender. While it is important to let people know where you are, it is also important to be aware of personality, emotional patterns of siginificant others. If you are feeling that a loved one is going to do harm, it is so important to act on that and to tell someone. I don’t know if this young lady was in that situation, but it is shame her life ended the way that it did

  53. WOW

Men are crazy now-a-days. ladies becareful who you go out with please! My thoughts are with her familty.

  54. T

Posted by #8: was hoping that Nailah would turn up any day now. I pray for the Franklin family in their time of sorrow. Someday her family will meet her again and all their questions will be answered but until that day I pray they find comfort in knowing God is in control~
    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
That was a very beautiful sentiment.

    _________________________________________________________________________
@ #23 – I didn’t think what #14 said was disrepectful. I think she had a pretty valid question. If it wasn’t for the bloggers and internet News sites, we would have heard very little about it.
    ________________________________________________________________________

#32 – So sorry to hear about your friend, so sad! Thank you for sharing and insisting tthat we walk this earth with caution. I know I will take heed.

  55. vee

This is so so sad. I was truly hoping and praying that she would be found alive. Prayers go out to her family and friends. May God provide comfort and peace

AND STOP GOING TO THESE MEN HOUSES BY YOURSELF, AND AGREEING TO MEET THEM SOMEWHERE BY YOURSELF, EVEN IF YOU KNOW THEM, EVEN IF YOU’VE KNOWN THEM FOR YEARS…ESPECIALLY, IF YOU GUYS HAVE BAD BLOOD BETWEEN YOU TOO….IF HE HAS EVER THREATENED YOU, IF HE IS UNHAPPY ABOUT THE BREAKUP, IF HE “JUST WANT TO TALK”, IF HE JUST WANTS TO RETURN SOMETHING TO YOU, WHATEVER…DON’T GO ALONE…TAKE SOMEBODY WITH YOU, AND IF YOU CAN’T FIND A “BODY” TO GO WITH, THEN TAKE SMITH AND WESSON IF YOU’RE JUST ABSOLUTELY INTENT ON GOING…PLEASE STOP TRUSTING AND UNDER ESTIMATING THESE MEN…..DON’T THINK HE WAS JUST ANGRY WHEN HE SAID THAT….SOMETIMES THEY ACTUALLY MEAN IT…AND IF THEY CAN FIX THEIR MOUTH TO EVEN VERBALIZE A PHYSICAL THREAT, THEN THEY CAN FIX THEIR HANDS TO CARRY IT OUT….PLEASE DON’T JUST ASSUME, OH, HE’LL NEVER GO THAT FAR..

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD LEARN HOW TO SHOOT, I HAVE…THIS IS NOT THE SAME WORLD OUR PARENTS LIVED IN….SOUNDS EXTREME, IT IS WHAT IT IS…MY PRAYERS GO OUT TO THE FAMILY.

    OKAY, I’M DONE.

We’ve had our disagreements, but I’ll cosign 250% on what you’ve said and add that it’s very important (for ladies especially) to BE SELECTIVE of who you get involved with in relationships. Too many times have i had to witness a woman being beaten by a man when the warning signs were loud and clear with sirens ringing that the person is bad news.

May this woman rest in peace.
