Sunday video will showcase a video that I believe can inspire and provoke thought. Whether it be old or new, rap, gospel or r&b, I will post a video.
This week have one of my favorite hip-hop duos Dead Prez. Their song “Hip-Hop” received critical acclaim when it was released back in 1999. I believe their message then is so relevant right now. Check it out and check back next Sunday to see what next video I choose.

Great video pick!
I luv this song!!
funny how the beyonce and jay z post almost tripled the response for this one
This is a great song, but these brothers believe in armed revolution, not dressing in all black, marching with signs and bullhorns, and begging white people for respect and “equality”. It makes me wonder if the people that claim to like this song are just saying that to say it.
Thanks for deleting that mess Angel.
Just so everyone knows, I wasn’t talking to myself….THIS TIME..lol
I LOVE DEAD PREZ, PREACH BROTHERS, ” FAKE SCENERIOS SAME MESS ON THE RADIO”…NOW WHY WERE THEY NOT INVITED TO THE HIP HOP TAKES ON AMERICA “FAKE” FORUM ON BET?
Lets talk about the noncommerical hip hop and why that is not all over the radio with to balance the psuedo-musical people currently on the radio?
By the way can someone tell me why they did not invite a black female intellectual to sit on that so-called panel. If we are looking at the misogynistic attitudes of hip hop and the denegration of the black female image, why did the not invite Angela Davis, Nikki Giovanni or someone of that nature because they have a lot to say on the topic.
I HOPE SOMEONE ON BETS STAFF READS THIS AND SENDS IT TO DEBRA LEE.
@ #65…Why that would be the SMART thing to do. Everyone knows that there aren’t any intelligent black women around with the exception of Oprah Winfrey *rolls eyes*
@ #47, No one is “hatin” on Hip Hop. It’s just that when you’ve been around since the beginning of Hip Hop or have had the privilege of being introduced to the makings of our music (or simply doing the research for yourself) you can see the unfortunate changes in it. It’s disheartening
Now in order to be mainstream, you must be commercial. This is code word for “don’t offend your white fans”.. Hip Hop has turned into nothing more than watered down lyrics for the most part. For some artists, shucking and jiving and being “accepted” are the only things they aspire to be.
Sometimes it’s not about how many ring tones you sell. That may be the case for a lot of the new artist, but who’s losing out? Who’s actually being cheated? It’s the fans, the ones that are listening to the music day in and day out.
Some would argue that the radio and clubs play what the fans request. Well heck if every radio station constantly played Country and Western (no offense) or Classical 24 hours a day, then darn it, that’s what the public would request!
Not only is the creativity gone, the distribution of getting new music out has as well. I purposely scan other websites to catch up on what’s out and relevant instead of listening to the radio…
@ 12, good info, but if you know as much as i think you do, then you would throw all your support behind Ron Paul. Obama is a member of the CFR. Good to see more black folx supporting Paul, he’s running as a republican, but he is really a libertarian.
And loving the video, also love by them, Propaganda, They School, and Radia Freq (turn off the radio, turn off that bullshit, turn off the radio).
Thanks for this video Angel and I couldn’t agree more with what you wrote. Even though this video was not about fun and just having a great time, its interesting how some people seem to equate fun with degrading bullshit and violence.
It’s a shame that some people have never heard this. Dead prez had a followup to this album 3 years ago (RBG), a couple of mixtapes and M1 had a solo and toured last year in the us and canada. Someone mentioned Immortal Technique, he is great and his third album should be out soon, i can’t wait.
love this video, and the song! what do you call those dance moves they doing? Is it some sort of capoiera?
