keisha, keisha, keisha. Could somebody tell me why she is so famous. This child cannot sing, she can only holler……..

  2. Can’t wait to hear this…I’m at work

  3. I think Keyshia sounded pretty good. A little shakey at first…but WAY better than I expected.

I was holding my breathe when she got up on that stage (when I watched the game last night…sidenote..how FINE is Bob Sanders of the Colts…WHOO)

She did well, considering this is not an easy song to sing & she has a raspy voice.

  4. It was aight….at least she knew the words.

  5. Damn you you beat me Passion21!!!…so close….

  6. ms_mac

She sounded flat and whack. Hated it.

  7. Leanace

    it was so so.
    she is sooooooooooooooo overrated!
there are a lot of better singers/performers out there.
i hate that they call her lil’ mary. if i was mjb- i would be PISSED!

  8. Indygirl

I was at the game last night and she didn’t sound as awful as I thought she would. I love Keyshia but she doesn’t go a good job singing live. Faith Hill was great and I didn’t even want to see her.

  9. ms_mac

It is a hard song to sing, no matter what type of voice you have. But you have to be pretty confident to take a stab. She obviously thought she could make it happen. She was worng.

  10. LLH

Ummmm…let’s just say that this rendition will not be added to my list of Anthem classics. Way too much rolling going on in this version. For a moment, I’d forgotten what song she was singing. Thank goodness for the choir. Without them, this performance would have been empty. They helped to fill a lot of wholes in her sound. Despite all of this, I can’t say that I HATED it. I just probably won’t ever listen to it again. Hey, the national exposure is good for her career. Good move. : )

  11. REECY

She did better than I though, you could tell she was nervous. She could have left some of those runs off though.

  12. Leanace

    lmao @ #4.
true, not an easy song to sing ( why do u think she had like 50 backu-up singers–ooohhh too mean, i’ll stop now).
I do have to admit she gets an automatic 5/10 point for knowing the words.

  13. yall_2damn much

I watched it lastnight cuz my husband called me in the room to see her and we both felt like she was just trying too hard. She seemed to be over singing it, u know? So, I think she was just aiight, coulda been better but i’ve heard worse.

  14. YOU TOLD HARPO TO BEAT ME???

Keyshia looks like she has a mop on her head. She’s in desperate need of a stylist like yesterday.

    She sound good though.

  15. VMJ2

This poor child has people in her ear telling her that she can sing and it’s obvious that she has pitch problem out the a**!If you get a chance,go to youtube and search Keyshia Cole singing His Eye Is On The Sparrow.IT’S THE PITS!People wonder why Beyonce gets so much play but when you hear performances like this it’s easy to see why.Because these other chicks are WACK!

  16. Ced_dro

I liked it but she needs alot of work vocally..

  17. KI KI

    I’AM A FAN!!!!!!!!!

    YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GRREAT JOB !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  18. Naw Son

I won’t even entertain the viewing of this performance. I’m going to make a mayonasie sandwich instead. Thank you and GoodNight

  19. Day-Day-DC

  21. truthseekertruthspeaker

Keyshia may not be considered amongst the best vocally, but she has chutzpah. In the end, that’s all that matters. Do you Keyshia, no one will do you better!!!

    Truth

  22. LLH

Typo in my last comment. The word should be “holes” and not “wholes”. I just wanted to make sure that everyone knows that I know.

  23. vexxed

    Let’s be real…. she’s pretty. I guess that’s a talent.

    That is all.

  24. Imsosilly004

    The choir saved her.

  25. I loved it … She did an awesome job… i understand what you all are saying about the runs… but hey it is what it is…. I liked and enjoyed it. She can only get better and she has and she will continue.

  26. Josh

The beginning was a little under…when ever you sing an O or and A vowel you have to make sure that the sound is forward or else it goes under pitch. but overall it wasn’t bad…the tempo wasn’t consistent but it is a very difficult song to sing in to front of millions of people so, not bad.

I think Keyshia sounded pretty good. A little shakey at first…but WAY better than I expected.

    ————————————————————-

You took the works right outta mouth there ;) Agreed.

She absolutely KILLED those big notes. Love ya girl, keep on doin u i love it.

Great to hear a real girl (not some shallow, dolled up Barbie) doing herself proud. What a beautiful voice.

  28. MEL

I think she did a great job. People always find something to hate on. Everyone that sings it makes it their own. Is it a classic no, but niether was Beyonce’s. Beyonce screeched and screamed her way through. Overall I think she sang it well. Good Job Keyshia, Keep proving people wrong!!!!!!!!!!!

  29. miss melissa

i didnt like her before but i saw her in concert at house of blues and the girl brought the house down. i liked her performance last nite. she has came a long way.

but for a sec she looked like mary when she came out…hmmmm.

  30. KristianKedar

It was cool other than that REGGIE BUSH……………………………………..FINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  31. Ayanna

I LOVEEEE this chick. Beautiful voice! She Keeps is real yet still brings class and sophistication. She is developing as an artist and a person and it shows. I wish her the best. Keep it Up!

  32. cocacola72284

#30, Beyonce screeched and screamed her way through? WTF are you talking about!!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GzlGMxJO7U

    Clean your ears out please

  33. I don’t know why people are being so harsh and negative. She sounded pretty good to me. And her make up was ABSOLUTELY gorgeous.

  34. cocacola72284

My apologies. This post is not about Beyonce. I just had to correct somebody.

    Keyshia’s performance was….questionable.

Tianna, please remove my previous comment.

  35. Tonya Renée

I’m sorry. That was not hot, she was off key so many times.

  36. Greatestloveofall

Keyshia, like with Fantasia, I am so happy for everything she’s achieved.

  37. BAMBAM

I’m sorry but why do some black singers have to go for overkill when it comes to singing the national anthem? I hated her weak vocal gymnastics at the start of the song. To me, The Star Spangled Banner always sounds strange when it’s sung like a gospel song. It just isn’t, and certainly not a song that’s “soulful”.

I guess the only person who gave it a definitive black flavor was Whitney.

  38. ToniChilds

She showed some range towards the end that I hadn’t heard before

    Good job!

  39. cc

OMG, ok it wasn’t horrible. But for real

The runs- please stop using the same runs every time.
    The notes- flat. period
    The choir- her saving grace

Someone said she hit those big notes— ummm what big notes– the highest she went was like what a B? Thats not high nor was it big. heck i can scream that too.
When you perform this song you are meant to tear it up. People know it’s for people who have range (Whitney, Mariah, and yeah B). Keyshia not so much. But A for effort.

  40. Dame

Keyshia I missed it I’ll have to view it at home.

  41. TGS

It was just ok. Nothing to watch again.

  42. BAMBAM

and I agree with the comments about bonus points for knowing all the words.

  43. nay

i liked it!!! Keisha is her own person and I like that she didn’t do the regular run of the mill high note at the end…she showed that she has some sense to stay within her vocal range and still sound hot. I also believe that she is only going to get better with maturity…like MJB has done. Remember when Mary sounded like a wounded dying dog when she sang live? Now she has much improved and I see the same thing in Keisha…only she sounds way better that Mary did back in the day. I like the girl with her ghetto self

  44. It was aiight…The Lord would be proud!

  45. I DONT EVEN HAVE TO LISTEN TO IT, I ALREADY KNOW SHE KILLED IT.

  46. DAPHNEYVETTE

I THOUGHT SHE DID REALLY WELL…..CONSIDERING….

  47. dctrinigyal

NOTHING TO WATCH EVER AGAIN …SHE SOUNDS HORRID. I PREDICTED IT AND MY PREDICTION WAS RIGHT. THIS IS THE PERSON THAT PEOPLE COMPARE TO MARY. YOU GOT TO BE OUT YOUR MIND

  48. I dunno…sometimes I wish Keyshia Cole would just sing straightforward, because every time she attempts runs and vocal acrobatics it highlights all of her vocal shortcomings. From a technical standpoint that was a terrible rendition of the Anthem. Unless she was hitting (or trying to hit) a power note, her vocals were weak and it sounded like she was running out of breath the whole time. She should really avoid half the runs she attempts because she doesn’t stick them–they sound muddied and not clean and clear.

The problem with Keyshia is she’s ALWAYS trying to do runs and power notes like she’s a belter, and she really isn’t. Vocally she’s on the same level as Ashanti, which is to say that she sounds ok when she’s singing in that middle register. There’s SOME vocal talent there, but more often than not she overextends herself.

  49. Vixen225

I never post, but i just have to say that why sooooo much hating!!! She did what she does. It was totaly her. I thought she did a good job. No it was mind blowing, but did anyone really expect that. I know I did not. She is a strong and confident black woman who are doing big things. GREAT JOB!!

  50. AnalogGirl

Um….all of ya’ll clearly don’t know about singing and pitch. Keyshia has a nice voice – - but she was flat..sharp and all in between the note she SHOULD have been at. Don’t get me wrong I’m proud she was given the opportunity to perform the National Anthem – - but she should have consulted a sufficient vocal coach when preparing for this. Remember Beyonce – -FLAWLESS..and my ULTIMATE FAVORITE – - Whitney Houston – Damn Phenomenal!!..she’s following these women – and no she probably won’t be as good as them but she needs to bring it and she didn’t with that flatness and sharpness….Still love you Keysh..I’m copin’ the album this month!!

  51. Quiche-A

She can sing. So I don’t know why people are saying she can’t sing. She sounded okay to me. She overdid it a bit, but she did her thing I thought!

  52. bambam

    @ 50 PITTIBOI

You better articulated what I was trying to say.

  53. MEL

#34 WTF are u talking about?!?!?!?! She just another person that has you brain washed to belive that screeching and screaming is singing. LOL.
i watched it when she sang it the first time. she screams, yea she can sing but she also screams. sometimes i wonder if she knows the difference between the two.

  54. bambam

    @ 52 ANALOGIRL

I’ll echo my previous nod @ PITTIBOI to you.

  55. V.

Same here, #2. It won’t let me view it here at work. As soon as I get to the house, it’s on! I’ll be back to comment. Until then, I’m going back to see what the rest of you wrote. This is gonna be a trip.

    :)

  56. bambam

@ 50 didn’t mean to misspell your tag.

  57. sxcighanamamii

    it was aiight.
still havent heard anyone kill it like whitney did.

  58. sxcighanamamii

p.s. the choir did save her @ #41
