it reminds me of that episode of the simpsons where the simpson family was at a baseball game (i think it was baseball) and they had a black guy singing the national anthem and he hung on every line and elaborated every note and the song was sooo long. you saw the crowd go from excited and alert at the beginning of the song, to listless and slouched by the end.

I’m sorry but why do some black singers have to go for overkill when it comes to singing the national anthem? I hated her weak vocal gymnastics at the start of the song. To me, The Star Spangled Banner always sounds strange when it’s sung like a gospel song. It just isn’t, and certainly not a song that’s “soulful”.

B/c that is a boring whack ass song, that’s why! If they wanted it to sound the same everytime they would just play a tape!

Well..to be honest when I heard she was singing th NA I knew that it would be bad simply because she can’t really sing live. I found so many probs wrong with that performance one major one was the fact that the choir drowned her out simply because she can not sing live!

However she is a lot further in her career than most of us if not all so we need to give her her props for at least showing up and trying…kudos keyshia!

Went to the Kanye concert when Key and Fanny opened up for him. Keyshia is no joke. THe girl can sing. No pitch problem no cracking. Just straight singing!

I think it was “ok”, it wasn’t horrible, and it wasn’t jaw-dropping. She did a respectable job. I just saw her recently at the House of Blues in Vegas and she made me a fan. She can actually sing, but as others have noted, she does have pitch problems sometimes. I was watching last night hoping she didn’t go too far off pitch, like she does when she sings “Love” live. So, she did aight, I think she needs to work more with a vocal coach to work out the kinks, but the girl can sing. And whoever compared her to Ashanti is TRIPPIN! lol

I was thinking more in terms of Keisha’s lacking vocal abilities. I don’t think The Star Spangled Banner is ‘boring” per se, but it is was clearly written with a slight classical structure.

Certain soul singers can pull it off while adding some black flavor as previously mentioned here:

I just think Keisha has the chops to be over-styling. Especially the national anthem. She would have been better off singing it straight.

She did OK, nothing special. I prefer Fantasia, Beyonce, and Whitney’s performances.

What an odd choice for NFL’s opening night. I’d give her about a 6 out of 10 — she pleasantly surprised me. I would have thought it would have been a disaster. She remembered the words and mostly stayed on pitch, but the runs were awful and she was off tempo with the choir. Still, very good for Keyshia.

When did everybody become a vocal coach.? Keyshia did extremly well and looked very beautiful. We have to uplift each other and support each other no matter what. In my opinion the best rendention I hear was TALENT TIFFANY EVANS when she sung at DALLAS STADIUM when she was 12 years old, it on her myspace page. I also feel she will sing both BEYONCE and JENNIFER HUDSON under a rug. Singing is a gift and the young lady was truely bless.

Some of y’alll need hearing aids, coz anybody see that, she was pitchy and flat with the high notes. she definitely needs to work on her breathing while sing,coz she sounded out of breath, that song was too big for her. my all favourite renditions so far,are whitney(the best rendition ), mariah and beyonce.

She starts out nice at first till thought the perilous fight…….when she tried singing high it sounded very strained smh…..I like the riff at banner yet wave…………..hell nah at the part of land of the free and all that after that *sighs*…..many on and way off points so I overall it was alright. Not as horrible as I was anticipating.

The thing is that most people lip sing the national anthem. There are very few occasions where people sing it live. She was flat but it wasnt awful….i mean i cant name one artist that has sang the anthem live at the superbowl…..I think it was a good effort and the arrangement was hard to me. I mean she had to hold some big notes in the middle of that performance and i thought her ending note was great. But the whole arrangement was all a little bit weird to me.

Like anything and everyone else, she stands to get even better with more experience in the business. Her talent is raw, she hasn’t had the benefit of technical vocal coaching — she’s good and she will get better.

She does her thing, and even if it is not pleasing to some, she does the best with what God gave her. But that being said, I just lose patience when people drag a 5 minute song to 10 minutes doing long runs and dragging out notes. I’m like “Just sing the damn song”. I went to see Eryka Badu once and she played with the “Tyrone ” ending for 10 minutes, to the point where I just wanted to run up and kick her in the knee cap to make her stop. Hate that style. Just my opinion.

ok you gotta have the vocal range and capacity to do runs and not half ass them and sound out of breath, Some people complain to those who does runs.oversingingbut they do a great job but Keyshia is not one of them. Her lower register is better. As far as her high notes…pls practice your pitch and transition, that sudden transition sounds like you’re vocal chords are cracking. 1. I’m a capella trained and that mess was horrid; HORRID. Those that are musically trained can really hear the disaster that went on during that youtube video. I’ll have to give this one an F-.

2. And as for her runs; I believe she did them to take attention off of the fact that she was fucking up every other note; the problem is that she used so much energy on her runs that she didn’t save enough to hit the next note correctly, thus making most of the song flat and sharp.

3. She’s no lost case though, I think she’s got a strong voice she just needs to stay within her range and stop trying to powerhouse it so much, get the breathing in order and hear the notes before you sing Keyshia, and you could be a contender (I had to throw that in lol).

4. Peyton Manninggggggg; my favoritest quarterback in the game!!!!!!!!

I do like KEYSHIA but sadly she is a studio artist! her notes were going flat all the time and her timing was also off, I didn’t enjoy this performance and I was cringing all through it!
