Am I the only one completely shocked about this story? Apparently Shaquille O’Neal wants a divorce from Shaunie!! Here is the scoop from the Miami Herald..
Miami Heat center Shaquille O’Neal wants to divorce Shaunie, his wife of nearly five years. ”The marriage between the parties is irretrievably broken,” says his petition, filed Tuesday by attorney Ira Elegant.
The O’Neals have four children together — Shareef, 7, Amirah, 5, Shaqir, 4, and Me’Arah, 1. Shaq has a daughter, Taahirah, and Shaunie has a son, Myles, from previous relationships.
Shaq, 35, and Shaunie, 32, wed Dec. 26, 2002, in a lavish ceremony at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Shaq, then with the Lakers, gave Shaunie a ring with 17 carats of diamonds.
The two have a ”Cohabitation/Prenuptial Agreement and Acknowledgment of Property Disclosure and Waiver of Further Disclosure,” the petition says. A copy of their agreement ”will be filed . . . under seal” — if the court allows — and “contains extensive provisions providing for confidentiality and non-disclosure.” [READ MORE]

This is very unfortunate that these two are getting a divorce. And although I don’t know them personally, it’s always sad to see Black families seperating, or any family for that matter. As long as there isn’t any abuse, I hope these two can reconsider finalizing their divorce.

I am truly sad to hear such news!! I always thought Shaq and his wife would set the marriage standard for the NBA players. They always seemed to be a level minded down to earth couple and family. I hope they can resolve their issues before things go forward.

The marriage was doomed once she signed the prenump. In the event of a divorce, she was banking on the child support from the jump and was obviously cool with the set up. Unconditional love was never part of the big picture. As we now see, Shaq loved the dollar more than their 100 year relationship. Unfortunately, homegirl isn’t the sharpest stilleto on the shelf.

#32 – What happened is: infidelity, money, unhappiness, infidelity, rumors, drama, infidelity, bored, washed out, started love real young and it faded, infidelity, road trips and hangin with the team, infidelity…and nobody knows if there is anyone to “blame” but I think they are handling it well by not putting it all out there and that will hopefully protect the kids….good luck to both of them and the kids.

Wow. I’m surprised it’s Shaq filing for the divorce and not Shaunie. He hasn’t been the most faithful and I don’t know how well she kept up her end of the marriage vows, but this is just sad. I hope they’re mature about this considering 6 children are involved who love and idolize them both.
